A Cut Above The Curb

It was okay. What I really wanted them to do was something in my backyard and it just didn't seem to work. It's a rental property and I wanted some kind of a low maintenance type thing. The front yard has a very small patch of grass and I kind of wanted something different. But, they cleaned up the backyard and I paid them more. It was not so great. It wasn't really their fault. It's just that what I thought they would be doing was not what they thought they would be doing. So, I ended up paying them more. It took them forever to send me a picture because I don't live there. I didn't even know that it was completed. I had to call and ask. When I did meet with him, he told me like six shrubberies or whatever. They didn't plant any shrubbery. He cleaned up and made the flower bed and edged it out just a little bit. I really wanted to get rid of the grass because I don't really have a way to mow it. I can't find anybody that really wants to mow that small patch of grass. So, therefore, it's a problem. So, I was hoping to get rid of it. He made the flower bed a little bit bigger but that didn't really help that much with the grass. He was very nice. He met with me when he said he would meet with me. I think he was having problems with some of his workers. So, maybe it was a bad time for him. He was professional.

They were ok and their cost was fair. They didn’t respond so quickly, maybe a month.

Last year, I wanted to save money by raking my own leaves. I had to learn the hard way that raking the leaves from my yard was an all day and very exhausting task. I contacted Robert for a quote and he was Professional, Responsive and Affordable. I didn't utilize his services this time around because other arrangements were made at the last minute. I will surely reach out for his services for future needs.

They were punctual and responsive to my questions. The work was done quickly and through and much better than I had anticipated. Will use them again

I am very pleased with the job they completed. New shrubs planted, mulched and the team hauled away all debris. A smooth transaction and I would definitely call them again.

The gentlemen were prompt / on-time however, not friendly. I asked that the grass growing in the garden beds be removed and replace soil in that area with newly purchased mushroom compost. The workers mowed the grass growing in the garden beds then covered the area with the newly purchased soil, which I had NOT asked them to too. How did I find this out? Well , when I began to dig in the garden beds, to drop seeds for collards, cabbage, etc. I kept hitting buried patches of grass. I feel like they got over on me - rushed the job yet, there were 3 guys present to work a small area. There was plenty of time. On the other hand, the area surrounding the garden beds were cleared of weeds and looked great.

OUTSTANDING in ALL aspects! First off, when you call during normal work hours, you speak to someone: no "leave a message and we'll call you back". I asked for an estimate and it was performed within a couple of days. I was amazed at the estimated cost. The quality of work was beyond my expectations. I did not expect the bushes to be so well trimmed and cut back because they looked so bad. In addition to the exceptional work, the yard was completely cleaned up with nothing for me to do afterwards. I wish I had before and after pictures to share. Everything was done via phone calls and email. Perfect for me. I will not consider using any other business for this type of work.

The office manager, Michelle contacted me right away after I had requested the service on Angie's List. She offered me several different times. Upon making the choice, the appointment was set. The Cut Above the Curb folks (4 of them) showed up promptly in the agreed upon time frame. I gave them instructions and they went right to work weeding and trimming. They cleaned up all debris nicely, bagged any small clippings and all was transported to my curb.

This review is a little late, but better late than never! This crew was punctual and professional. They did great work when I was prepping my house for sale. They laid 40 bails of pine straw in my very large mulch beds and cleaned up afterwards. Very courteous crew and they worked fast!

My system is now working TOP-NOTCH with coverage on my lawn I didn't have when I purchased my home. The service provider went the extra mile to not only crawl under my home to check for leaks and issues but also made sure I wasn't over-reaching into the street or my driveway which was a great touch. For the amount of headache (thanks to me) and labor that went into this, I am completely satisfied with the low price and will now exclusively use Cut Above the Curb and "Steve" for any irrigation issues we have in the future.

They were very professional and prompt. Very knowledgeable! I highly recommend this company.

First, they did do good work. The landscaping itself was done well and looked fine. However, I was given a price for how much it would cost to do what I wanted and then at the day because it took more time than the estimator expected, they wanted more money. Furthermore, I had explained to the provider which bushes needed to be cut back and which did not - both during the walk around/estimate in advance and in writing via Angie's messenger service. It was pretty simple - cut the bushes back from the house and leave the rest. Somehow the wrong bushes were cut down and pulled out. Although I was willing to live with this, because the deal was for hourly work and they had spent time on the wrong bushes, they ran out of time and did not finish the job I wanted. The foreman informed me I would owe more money if I wanted them to come back and finish.

Something is clearly wrong with this outfit. I noted I am the third potential customer in the past few months who has been unable to get an estimate, in my case for some retaining walls. He came out, seemed pleasant and knowledgable and promised me an estimate the following week. That was 3 weeks ago and I even went to their website and sent a "Wassup?" message a couple of weeks ago but nothing heard. I wouldn't touch this one

We were going to rent the house out. I wanted it done. It meet my expectations.

Excellent work. The package provided for a landscape design involving approximately 10 shrubs/bushes and a tree plus labor. Because our front beds were so large, we ordered additional plants and that combined with the labor added the additional $200. Now, remember that the planting is based on a pristine, ready-to-go bed. I did all the clearing of the old shubbery myself as well as buying the topsoil to fill in stump holes and mulch for the finish. But Robert let me know exactly cubic yards/feet of dirt or mulch I would need and it worked perfectly. His crew was right on time and had the job done in a little under 2 hours. I highly recommend them and would call A Cut Above the Curb again for any large landscaping projects I might encounter in the future. (Which will probably be a few)

Lost the samples. Was to come by and take new samples. Not sure if he did. Haven't heard from him in months. Promises, promises, but no result.

I've used this company before for lawn care. Great company reasonably priced. They had a new guy doing the sprinkler tune up. He was not on time showed up over an hour late looking like he just woke up. I was assured he would no longer be with the company for long. Devon made it right and I will use them again.

We agreed upon a date and time. They were prompt and got right to work checking our system. They spent a considerable amount of time checking for leaks, broken sprinkler heads, and possible dry areas in the yard. They adjusted the sprinkler heads to help cover the dry areas, cleaned the heads and made sure the nozzles were clear. They also helped us set the best setting for our operation to get the most coverage and efficient use of our system. We found a couple of broken heads which we had suspected and hired them to fix them. We understood from the Big Deal that repairs were not included in the deal. They ordered the parts and returned the next week and repaired them. We very impressed with this company and would call them again. They did a very good job and our system work great now.

Cancelled, and asked for refund.

Robert came to our home to consult on a design for landscaping the front and back of our home. He was on time, very courteous, and very professional. His proposed work was more than adequate and very imaginative. Due to personal issues, Robert was not able to prepare and forward his estimate for two weeks. It was very detailed but did not include specific plant locations. Since I could not recall many of the details, I emailed him asking for a layout drawing or at least a sketch. We never heard back from him, so we went with another provider.

They arrived on time and completed work quickly. It looks great! Thanks!

I struggled whether or not to write this review. But just the fact that over a month has gone by without any follow up or response is pretty much unacceptable. Since having met Robert before on another potential landscaping project, I decided to give him another call because he was so pleasant and responsive. I contacted them back in April seeking an estimate on landscaping services. Robert had initially come out to my house to provide me an estimate. There wouldve been a lot of work involved since I needed pretty much a renovation of my entire backyard. He gave me a ball park estimate and said give him two weeks to work out the numbers. Two weeks go by and no response. I call up to follow up and spoke to Robert directly and he apologized for not getting back to me due to being out of the office for family issues, was in the process of finalizing his estimate, and to then give him another day or two to get something back to me. This was on a Monday. I waited until the end of the week and still no response. I called back again on Friday to follow up and spoke to someone else. The person that I spoke to said that she would ensure that Robert would call me back by the end of the day. End of the day rolls by and no phone call. Its sad to say that over a month has rolled by without any follow up or contact. I have since found someone else to provide me the services that I needed. It was pretty much a let down because I read such good reviews about them.

These guys were remarkable. All of my flower beds were overgrown. A team of 4 gentlemen came out and had tackled the problem in no time! I will be calling them again to plant some items really soon.

Provider was also hired for additional Sprinkler system configuration. I was impressed with his attention to detail and tenacious attitude to ensure the job was done right the first time. I also provided him with a backyard design that I wanted an estimate on. Unfortunately I have not heard from him since I called him for an update. Not sure if the backyard work was beyond his scope.

Completely disappointed with the value of the work considering the cost paid. Was expecting $1,910 of curb appeal and had colleagues and co-workers literally laugh at photos of the result. A Cut Above the Curb seemed more interested in providing $899 of work and not the value of the package as advertised. Unfortunately, not even $899 worth of work was performed. Tried to resolve with A Cut Above the Curb, but they were unwilling to refund anything. Other issues: - four workers were on site for 2 hours, failing to fulfill 10 hour advertised labor - licensing and business experience as advertised are inaccurate as verified by calls to Chesapeake Commissioner's Office and the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation - sketch consultation was amateurish - plants that were described as commercial nursery grade were same as those available at Home Depot, but more expensive - post-consultation estimate nearly doubled the $899 package cost - several incidental costs (soil delivery, pre-emergent, haul away) were added (nickel and dime fashion) after consultation Bottom line: Simply not worth your money. I'm reverting back to Dreamscape Designers (Va Beach) who i used previously, you should too.
