A Cut Above The Curb

I received the seller's message late, as it was my understanding that the message would be received via Angie's List Inbox and notification would also be sent to MY EMAIL. I did NOT receive an email alert; therefore, the message was received late. When I did see the seller's message, it stated the dates I requested were not available and appointments were being scheduled for the week of 7/21/14. I replied asking for a specific date during that week and to be contacted via my personal email or cell and received no contact. Lastly, I needed the work to be done/completed on or before July 25, 2014 since it could not/was not, I want a full refund. Thank you.

We had some conflicts in scheduling but they were very receptive. They were great and worked as team. They were very professional. I had this huge pampas grass that needed to be removed; they came across a couple of obstacles including a bee’s nest and eggs. I was very impressed with them and their dedication to doing a good job.

We purchased an Angie's Big Deal from A Cut Above the Curb with the hope of starting a re-landscaping of our front yard. We wanted to greatly increase the mulched area and eliminate some of the grass. Michele from their office contacted us right away and we set up, at our request, a date for the work to be done about a month in the future. When they first arrived, they were very careful to understand exactly what we wanted done. (I believe our request was a little different from the usual as we wanted them to completely clear out everything and not mulch or plant anything. We plan to have the soil tested, then amend and enrich the soil as needed and complete the planting and mulching in the fall after the hot summer temperatures are over.) They trimmed out the area for the new bed and all three worked very hard to remove all the vegetation within the new boundaries. Many of the shrubs had very deep roots and required much digging. They were very careful to give us the full 8 man hours of labor as even though they took breaks in the heat, they did not count any of that time as work time. I was very please with the results. It was just what we wanted but did not have the strength to do ourselves. The crew was very polite and a delight to work with. We will certainly look forward to working with this company again.

We ended up not needing the service, so I emailed the provider and he told me what I needed to do to get a refund. He was very helpful.

I hired Cut above the curb to plant 8 shrubs in my yard via the Angie?s list 8 hours of landscaping for $249. The deal was 1 landscaper for 8 hours or 2 landscapers for 4 hours. I provided all of the materials, marked the locations where the shrubs were to be planted and provided detailed instructions. I talked to the owner/supervisor Robert DePonceau and he assured me that his team could perform the work in the allotted 8 hours. Understand that this allots for 1 hour per shrub. My wife and I planted 6 shrubs in 3 hours just last weekend so I figured that ?professionals? wouldn?t have a problem. Robert?s team seemed to have no experience planting trees or shrub and Robert left the site with giving his team any guidance. Instead of 2 landscapers 4 inexperienced laborers showed up and didn?t have a clue how to properly plant shrubs. When I complained the Robert he suggested that I could pay more to have the work completed and offered no compensation for the terrible job his workers performed. Bottom line don?t hire Cut above the curb. This deal is not a deal at all! They are inexperienced kids who don?t have a clue about landscaping and Robert is terrible manager and a cheat!! So now after paying for 8 hours of labor I am going out in my yard to plant the remaining 5 shrubs. This is an incredible waste of time and money. Don?t do it!!

I purchased the Big Deal late last year for 4 hours of work. Mr. DePonceau called me right away to make contact. I scheduled a couple of times but was not able to make the commitment due to unforeseen circumstances. Mr. DePonceau was very communicative and patient with me throughout the months leading up to the service. When I got a firm schedule date, I advised I could not be present. I advised I would leave the gate unlocked for access. I didn't see the results until I got home from work. I was very happy with how my yard looked. The hedges were trimmed and cleaned, my weeping willow tree trimmed, another tree pruned and other overall sprucing up. I was very satisfied with the results and would like to use his services again.

This was good. I had asked them to do something but the roots were too deep to get the plants out. They worked really hard and did their best. The guys that came were extremely polite and efficient. It was a terribly hot day but they worked very hard.

These guys were awesome! They showed up early and were very eager, willing and able. They did everything I asked and more. The yard looks wonderful. I would definitely recommend them and use them again! Thank you so much!

The office called and set up a time for 2 men to come for 2 hours to do as much as they could get done. On that day, the office called and said the men would be late because of unforseen circumstances. When the 2 men came, they introduced themselves and asked what they could do for me. I showed them the problem area and explained what I wanted done. I really wasn't sure they could do it all in 2 hours. They were very polite and personable, and didn't act as if it would be a problem. They really worked hard, did everything I had pointed out, and cleaned up beautifully. The two men, Lacondrae and Amen, were excellent and I will definitely have them again.

The men did a great job! They were even able to dig out a stump that the tree service that I used earlier had left behind. They cleaned out the area to the bare ground and had some time left on the clock. They asked me what else they could do and then proceeded to clean out an old flower bed and rake up some yard debris on the other side of the yard. All of the yard debris was bagged and carried to the curb as well as the stump they had removed! The men were courteous and hard working. I will use them again and highly recommend them!

It was spectacular. The 2 young men that came out amen & con, they just gave a 150%. They did so well I purchased another deal for them to come back out. Very courteous. It was done in Virginia beach

It was what i expected. They did the work and did it right. They had the best price. If you want a simple job done, they are the best option. They are more of small scale.

I'm almost 70 with bad joints & no gardening talents, and had let my yard pretty much do its own thing for a few too many years. This was an absolutely wonderful experience. The company sent 3 cheerful, polite, energetic & extremely helpful young men who were a complete delight. Michelle in the office said they liked to work, and she wasn't kidding. They divided the number of hours I paid for by the number of workers, as is usual. They didn't start the clock until after the initial walkaround, and stopped it while they took their breaks. It helped that I took the day off from work since they always double-checked to make sure they were doing exactly what I wanted. That didn't slow them down, though; they're careful but there's no wasted motion, and they finished both work & cleanup in the time allowed. They work very well together - cooperatively, with no prickly personalities. Thank you so much, Rob, Michelle, Amen, Lacondrea & Desmond. I look forward to working with you again. My yard looks so very much better!

This was my 2nd time using this company. The first time, I was out of town for a family funeral, but all work was done as planned, and I was able to communicate with them by phone. This time, Robert came over to meet with me on the Friday before the work was to be performed. Expectations were discussed, and he made some suggestions as to what could be done in the 8 man-hours. He sent 2 men over the following Monday to perform 4 hours of yard work. It was a tough job--we had had a 20+ year old fence taken down, and it was all overgrown with English ivy. The goal was to complete all 3 sides of the perimeter, pulling ivy and removing the "junk". My first priority was the long side. As it turned out, there was not time to complete all 3 sides, but they were positive and totally professional. They worked tirelessly to complete as much as they could in the time allotted. The change it has made in the looks of my backyard is dramatic--what a relief!! If I had the money, I would hire this team again in a heartbeat--so in the meantime, I will save up, and then bring them back at a later date! It looks great! I was so energized by the improvement that I attacked some inside clutter, too! :) Thanks, A Cut Above the Curb, for a job well done!

Everything was great about this service aside from the punctuality. I was given an arrival time between 11-12 in the afternoon. They ended up being late but that is fine as I know these things happen. The workers ended up showing at 2:45. I did get phone calls and explanations and regrets from Rob and Michelle which I was totally fine with. The service was great and was worth the wait. I know things like this happen and everyone was very professional about what happened. The workers ended up completing my requests ahead if the allotted time and asked what else they could do to fill the time. It worked out perfectly. I would definitely use this company again. Thanks for the work!

These guys were 15 minutes early and ready to tackle a big job. They did a superb job of cleaning out the beds where there were lots of leaves to rake. The job was completed in the amount of time scheduled and I would definitely call them again.

It was great; had a bit of trouble scheduling a time to get the work done, but it was mother-nature driven -- it kept raining on days we had scheduled :-)

Owner- Rober D. sent a professional Lanscaping Crew on June 5-7, 2014, to property located @ 12432 Great Spring Road, Smithfield, VA 23430. The crew also had a On-Site Manager to design, work and supervise the project. The gentleman were extremely knowledgable and courteous and most of all worked together. We are pleased and each and evertime we need work done, A Cut Above The Curb will be the Company that we call. If you need to hear how pleased we are please call me @ (703)435-2381 . Robert Deponceau's Landscaping should be recommended to all clients that need landscaping services done with care and most of all the work is performed to meet clients expectations. the professinals tha trobert sent to our property were professional and know what to do with drain pipes to make the water flow properly. We purchased a Big Deal Landscaper for a Day (8 man hours) to do spring cleaning of our yard. They sent three guys out to do the work. They removed a climbing flower vine from one of our trees, cleaned up several flower beds (removed weeds and grass), and trimmed a dozen bushes and tall grasses. They did an excellent job. The B in responsiveness was due to a delay in a call back, however, Robert explained that there was a family issue, which I understand. A Cut Above The Curb did such a great job that we are using them for our weekly lawn service now!!

Everything turned out well. It was easy getting in touch to schedule, they completed all of the tasks that we asked of them, and they did a quality job.

We initially contacted the service provider last fall to set up an appointment to receive an estimate. We were contacted within an week, and an appointment was scheduled. The owner came out and met with us to discuss our plans. After meeting with Robert, we received an estimate within a week, along with suggested scrubs/flowers for our landscape project. We decided to table the project until Spring 2014, because we could not decide on the scrubbery we would be pleased with. Since we were really pleased with the customer service we had recieved, We contacted the service provider and informed Robert of our decision. Robert expressed he totally understood and wanted us to be happy with what we selected because it would be permanent for the curb appeal we were seeking. At that time, we insured him we would be in contact with him, when we were ready to move forward with the project. We contacted the service provider March 17, 2014 to schedule an appointment for our landscape project. The appointment was scheduled for April 14-15. On April 11, since we had not heard back from the service provider, we contacted them to confirm the upcoming appointment. A message left requesting a confirmation return call. Later that morning, we recieved a call from the office requesting us to reschedule the appointment, because they were unable to get the scrubs/plants we wanted. We could truly understand with the late winter weather we had been experiencing in the area; however if we had not reached out to them would we have received a call. To be honest, we were a little upset, because work schedules had been adjusted to accomodate the project going forth as previously schedule. Since we were pleased with the initial contact we had with Robert, we chalked it up to a snafu and went forward with the project. Our appointment was reschedule to April 21. On April 21, Robert and two others arrived to our home promptly. They worked dilgentily on the project, kept us abreast of their work, and asked for our direction with planting location for the scrubs/plants. We were overall pleased with the work that was completed; therefore, requested estimates for additional services to be completed. Robert indicated he would forward estimates to us for the services we were requesting. Several weeks went by and we never recieved the estimates. On May 14, we received a voice message from Robert. He indicated the company recently upgraded their computer system and had been experiencing some problems. He also inquired if we had received his estimates. I returned the call on May 15, a message was left informing Robert we had not received the estimates and requested the estimates be forwarded for our review. As to date, we have not received the estimates, nor have our call been return. Unfortuntantly, I wish the outcome could have been better; but due to poor follow through we will seek other providers. We wish you the very best in all your business endevours.
