Our company is a second-generation, family-owned business that has provided quality pest control services to the Hampton Roads area since February of 1970. Our goal has always been to provide honest, dependable, and professional service to our customers. We are proud of our 43 year history and we work diligently everyday to continue that level of excellence. Our Owners, Karen and Bill Pye, hold VDACs Commercial Certified Applicator licenses in: wood destroying insects general pest control turf management and ornamentals and are in the office or the field every day Our technicians are all Certified Commercial Applicators with the Virginia Department of Agriculture either when they began employment with our company, or within one year of being employed. This is done to ensure their level of training and expertise is up with A-1ā²s standards. Our office personnel are Certified Registered Technicians as well, which gives them a firm grasp on pest control services and allows them to be as thorough as possible when answering your questions. Our owners. technicians, and office staff attend monthly training and safety meetings plus Virginia Department of Agriculture(VDAC) training sessions and training sessions offered by our product manufacturers. After our mortgage agent failed to tell us about the required termite inspection letter until 72 hours before closing, this company moved appointments and did whatever it took to ensure that we were able to close. Explained all options clearly and did the work beyond expectations.

Tom, the representative, was professional and explained every step of the process. The inspection found inactive termite tubes. I went ahead with a preventative treatment which included drilling into the slab and digging a trench along the perimeter to introduce the Termidor. The original treatment date had to be postponed because of rain, so it was rescheduled on a dry day to ensure proper bonding to the soil.

I left special instructions as this is my rental, and I didn't want to disturb my renters. I also had some special spraying requests, inside the detached garage and crawlspace...which were absolutley no problem.

We have had a problem for several years and were using products that were purchased over the counter. We were unable to totally rid our home of the pests and they made me very uncomfortable. I went on Angie's list and read reviews and decided to try A-1. It's early yet but so far I am pleased.

The "Special" did not mention that the porch, attached garage, and driveway were not included. I could have had these done for another $471. If you add this amount to what I paid ($750), you come up with exactly what is normally charged. In fact A-1 Exterminators treated my neighbor's ranch (mine is a 2 story and does not have as big a perimeter) for $800 without the so-called "Special". I did not realized that I had to barter and I trusted Angie's List. I think it was a gross misrepresentation of services. When I called and told A-1 how I felt, they informed me that if I have termites in the areas not treated during the next 12 months, they will treat for free. But I'll be responsible for the damages. My other friend that signed up with me had the good sense to pull out.

"We are terribly disturbed that this member was and is so dissatisfied with the treatment we provided. She does not currently have a termite problem and we don't suspect that she will because we provided a label specific treatment to her home as offered. We had extensive conversation with the member before she made her purchase and before we arrived at her home to provide it. We did not know she expected a certain type of application method. The "drilling" she speaks about is certainly a fine method of treatment and would be absolutely indicated if an active termite problem had been found but it is also more labor intensive, more chemical is used and it is obviously more expensive. The manufacturers of the product we used have taken great pains to be certain that the trench and treat method we offered and provided is effective and it was accepted by the EPA to be included on the product label. These less intensive methods are often the result of the desire to put less chemical into the environment. Additionally, we put the entire structure under our Termite Protection Plan and Warranty for one full year at no additional cost. If the member's home does show any evidence of an active termite infestation during this time, any and all treatments (including drilling) will be done at no charge. We have attempted to explain this to the member with little result. We can only hope that she takes some comfort in the fact that the home is protected and covered should any problems arise."

I was so worried before they had came, they came out to check for termites. The guy who came out was so nice to us, and did not pressure us into anything. He gave us numerous options as to what to do. Things went great with A1. They were excellent, the staff was just great. I couldn't have asked for better people.

I called the office frantic because of the ants (I don't like them, and they were all over my kitchen - in a brand new house.) The lady on the phone was very sympathetic and concerned and was able to make me an appointment for the next day. She explained the service, the fee (I received 15% off for an Angie's List discount - it's normally 125 but I paid 106), what the technician who would be at my house looked like and his area of expertise.
When the technician showed up (the next day may I say again), he was very courteous and prompt. He put dust covers on his shoes. He did a thorough inspection of my ant problem, and laid a pretty effective posion in inconspicous places around where I was having my problem. I have cats, and he assured me they would be ok (and they were). He also sprayed by baseboards, and sprayed outside as well as conducting a termite inspection. He explained all of the services offered by A-1 but did not pressure me to sign a contract and said I can call at anytime if I would like to have a contract.
I was told when I first called that depending on how bad my ants are, it may take more than one visit but luckily, within 3 days, I didn't see anymore ants. It was amazing. It has been a week and a half, and the ants are still gone. I received a follow-up call from the office as well after a week to find out how I was doing, which I appreciated.
I highly recommend this company. I will definitely use them in the future for any other issues I have. As a new home owner, I am happy I know who to call if I have problems like this again.

The company called to arrange time for service within 24 hours of my purchase of the special "deal". The people on the phone were friendly and courteous, and arranged a time that fit in to my schedule. The service tech arrived right on time, was helpful, courteous and explained everything well. He left us with an estimate for a vapor barrier, as there was not one under our house now. The price seemed fair, and the tech was not pushy about trying to force us to buy another product, but helpful in his explanations and gave us written sheet with readings and findings when he was done. Overall, good price, good service, I would use them again and recommend them to others.

Responded immediately to call, provided estimate and executed work the next day. The technician was thorough, informative and respectful of property inside and out. I'm very pleased with their job performance. However, I requested that we divide the payments over several months, unfortumately they did not follow through administratively and charged everything to my card immediately. I would definitely use them again and recommend their company

Of course the credit card charge could also have been made in smaller monthly payments but processing through us he could have avoided interest charges. Had we been made aware at the time, we could have refunded his card and processed it the manner he intended.
