Richardson'S Ornamental Iron Co

He installed the rails in Astor and they looked great!  They looked beautiful matching my shutters perfectly.  A couple months after they were installed my son called to tell me that the paint was chipping off and that they appeared that they were never primed.  I called Mr. Richardson and was telling him the problem and he got up on his high horse and got ugly saying "He heard me the first time and I did not have to repeat it.  He again in an ugly tone stated that he would get out their and take care of it within the next two weeks.  Couple months went by and still no Mr. Richardson..  My husband  rode over to his shop and again went in to ask about fixing the rails.  He said he had forgot and would get out there probably the next week.  Again we waited for months and no Mr. Richardson.  By now the rails have rust in many places.   I wanted to send a certified letter but my husband wanted to give it one last shot. so my husband again went over there and he said his helper left and that he thought there was a problem with the primer as he had complaints from others and he would again take care of it.  By now its been over 6 months....
   This morning he showed up at my house and my son walked out the door and started looking at the rails and made the statement that they appeared that they had not been primed.  At that Mr. Richardson again showed his temper and jumped on my son saying he did not know what he was talking about and went on to say that he had never painted the rails that color and accused us of tampering or changing the color as the color looked different than what he put on.   He actually is  right as they look faded and they never had a shine to them as our other house does.  My son told him no one besides Mr.Richardson had touched the rails and the two of them had heated words.  My son called me and told me of his accusations and asked permission to tell Mr. Richardson to leave of which he did.
  Mr. Richardson called my husband to cry on his shoulder and I got on the phone and told him I was going to find someone who stands behind their work without copping a hot head attitude and I would sent him a bill.  He said he would not pay it..  I said we would let a judge decide as we are going to court.  With that he said goodbye and hung up the phone.
    Mr. Richardson has the capability of doing a good job as I have evidence of that on one of our porches.  He was reliable until there was a problem and he had been paid.  His hot head attitude is very unprofessional and had I known then what I know now would never have contracted Mr. Richardson to do the job.

I met with Mr. Richardson three times prior to the job -- once (via phone) to discuss the job and to get his recommendations, once in person to review his proposals, and a final time in person to modify the original proposal (to delete brass finials on the railings) and make a deposit.  All meetings went well.  At the time of the third meeting, he indicated that the job might take three weeks -- but two weeks later, he called me to set up a time for installation.  He came on the day (and at the time) agreed upon with all of the equipment and material needed to do a professional installation of the two rails to a brick front porch.  The railings are secure enough to support my elderly in-laws in getting in and out of the front door -- which was my primary concern.  Additionally, the railings look good -- and match the general design of the rest of the house (Georgian).

The company, Gene, came out and took measurements of the front porch and stairs. He built safety railings for the front porch and stairs. He built a safety railing for the side door entrance. He used heavy metal. Used powder coat painting. He mounted the railings. The job looks great and it is solid.
