Was told there would be two workers, their rates, and time it would take. They came on time. Work took longer than was told in the estimate but that was necessary, and Mr Srigley stayed a couple of hours and charged me even though he never mentioned he would stay and charge his rates which are higher. ( $123 of cost his staying). Workers cleaned up the porch but not under the porch ( porch is on second level) where material had drifted down . Workers damaged the inside molding when removing the door and did nothing to fix it. They also put a scratch on the wood porch when moving the door. Called Mr Stigley and he came out the next day to fix the damage on the door and did a good job but he charged me to fix it ( what he said was a cut rate) . YOu should not be charged to fix damage the workers did. One of the workers came back 3 days later to insert piece at bottom on inside molding where it no longer met the floor. I asked him to wood putty it and sand it so it would look like the molding was one piece He said he would. He did not do it. He also told me as he left I needed to caulk a few areas around the new molding. I paid for work to be done I should not have to putty, sand, and caulk . On the original work day the same workman said he would make a piece to fit in under the edging at the door as they raised the door slightly and it now was above the floor level. He never did it.
Description of Work: 3 Unit door to porch from kitchen leaking water from porch ( on second level) into basement as flashing bad. They took out the door , replaced the flashing

Not all projects go well. There were misunderstandings. The job was entered into not with a bid, but by the hour. I did NOT charge Ms. Wells for the time I spent on site overseeing the project as she claimed. I only charged for the time I spent in the shop milling wood to replace rotted wood we discovered under the original door, and the time to deliver that material to the job. In doing this, I saved Ms. Wells the time that my workers would have used to return to the shop and mill the wood. My rate is only $5 more /hr than my lead carpenter. This was explained to Ms Wells in a letter written to her. As for the "cut rate" mentioned, I returned to the job to fill some marred sections of the original casing which was re-used. Since that was forgotten by my crew, I only charged the hourly rate of my lowest paid employee, the individual who would have done that in the first place. I of course did not charge my total time including travel to the site. This project was undertaken with the intention of saving the client money; I felt that she was limited in what she could pay, and that her interests were best served by hourly work, especially since in a project of this nature we cannot know what conditions we might encounter once the original door is removed. In discussions before work began Ms. Wells indicated that she would do the painting that might be required. I have always considered caulking to be part of the painter's job. She apparently did not consider that to be the case. I regret that the project was not completed to Ms Wells expectations. There are sometimes situations which are aggravated by misunderstandings. However there are, I believe, factual errors in Ms. Wells' comments.

Bob did the estimate and two other carpenters did the install. They thought it would only take a day but it took the better part of three days, but not because of any negligence on their part, the work was just more involved than predicted. They guys worked very quietly and diligently and cleaned up after themselves every day. We were thrilled with the end product and felt the price reasonable for all their hard work.
Description of Work: Bob's team installed bead board and moldings in our entryway, hallway and half bath. They milled some of the moldings themselves.

We wanted a built-in bookshelf unit for our living room that would cover an entire wall, floor to ceiling. The catch is that we had an existing, square, free-standing fireplace that needed to be incorporated into the design. Aside from books and art, the unit also had to house a TV and DVD player. We also wanted to the shelving unit to match the style of our house and the color of existing trim (white). We wanted the shelves to be adjustable, along with some closed storage. Bob Srigley came out to give us an estimate and sketched out his ideas. We provided some magazine photos as examples of the type of cabinets we wanted. A few days later, he e-mailed his estimate along with a drawing of the proposed unit. It looked great and we signed a contract with him. We also gave him the paint color that matched our trim. It took a few weeks for the Bob and his team to build and paint the shelving components. They assembled the components at the house. Overall, it took 1 day to install the majority of the unit. The next day was for caulking, paint touch-ups, and minor adjustments. A few of the cabinets have doors, and the doors were the final thing to arrive and be installed. The unit looks amazing - better than we had imagined. The work is really outstanding. The fireplace fit perfectly into the shelving unit, so that it looks as if it was all purposely built together. Extra touches, such as providing holes for electronic cord management, were really helpful. Because our floor slopes, the guys also adjusted some shims under the fireplace so that it would fit and look better in its space.
Description of Work: Bob Srigley designed, built, painted, and installed a built-in bookshelf/entertainment unit for our living room.

The members were great clients to work for and all our crew enjoyed the sense of accomplishment which accompanied this project. Their books and display items also set off the cabinetry nicely and made for some great pictures.
