Initial installation included a noisy fan that was exhausted through the eave. He came back and installed a different, much quieter fan and exhausted it through the back wall of the attic. This was a much better solution (and much quieter) and reduced the radon level to an acceptable 2.6 (using a short-term test).
Description of Work: Implemented radon remediation after a short-term test showed a level of 7.0 and a long-term test showed a level of 5.0.

We were very impressed by the professionalism of this company. Our radon problem was addressed promptly and the mitigation system installed by Central Virginia Radon is working wonderfully. We've gone from readings of 6.5 down to 1.6. The system is also extremely quiet. Ours is installed in a bedroom closet and with the closet doors closed, you can't even hear the fan. The staff was very knowledgeable and accommodating to our specific situation. They were punctual, finished the work in just one day and left the area in clean condition. We highly recommend this company for installing radon mitigation systems.
Description of Work: Radon mitigation system installed in downstairs bedroom closet. Outside vent was painted to match siding. Minor cracks in foundation were also caulked.

We were purchasing this home from long distance (Germany) and needed to get the radon remediation done right after we closed on the home. It was only a little high, 4.3, but, with a young daughter, it was a requirement. Our realtor called him, set up an appointment for him to do a site visit all while we were still overseas. We tentatively scheduled for a few days after our closing, even though I couldn't sign a contract because I didn't own the property yet. After closing, we finalized the schedule and he came to install the system. It took the better part of a day to complete the install. He had to seal the unfinished portion of the basement as well, which meant moving some cabinetry that the previous owner and quot;leftand quot; for us. Overall, he did an outstanding job. The quality of the workmanship is excellent all around. The sealing of the pipe in the basement is smooth, the electrical is perfect, and he cleaned everything up like he hadn't been there. If I hadn't know he'd been in the house doing the work, I would not have known that the remediation system was installed that day. I highly recommend Wolfgang for this type of work, you won't be sorry. And the cost was quite good as well. Thanks Wolfgang!!
Description of Work: Wolfgang installed a radon remediation system in our 3100 sq foot, finished basement home, in Forest Lakes South.

My wife and I have been putting this off for 2 years, mainly because we have run into a number of contractors who we didn't get good feelings from. Wolfgang was the complete opposite, and after a free home site estimate, we scheduled installation within 3 weeks (he was able to work us in sooner, but our schedules wouldn't cooperate). Wolfgang and his son showed up around 9:00 AM on the scheduled day and immediately went to work. It was a very cold day and they were great sports (especially having to do a large part of the installation outside). I was very comfortable leaving them alone in our house to complete the work, and was excited to see how well the suction PVC pipes were hidden from view above a drop ceiling in the mudroom. They explained that the suction fan was wired in an existing circuit and would use as much energy as a typically lightbulb (75 watts). This unit was placed along a wall of our bedroom and it is absolutely silent (I can't even hear it when I'm next to it outside). They did a great job running the pipes along a line of the home and unless you are looking for it, it is likely to never be noticed. The work was completed in 1 day (approx. 7 hours) and we had our new Radon reading in a week (down from 6.2 pCi/l to 0.7 pCi/l, under the limit of 4). Central VA Radon is certified, licensed and insured, and I would not hesitate to use them again (hopefully no need!) or to recommend them to friends.
Description of Work: Radon mitigation, including: 1) drilling through concrete foundation; 2)installation of large diameter PVC piping which was designed to be hidden and run above drop ceiling, through outside concrete block wall, and above roof line with suction fan as an outside component; 3) follow-up radon level testing to ensure appropriate levels (additional suction fans possible as needed); 4) Transferrable, 5-year warranty.
