Randy is God, he brought my dying Mac Book Pro back to life. You are in good hands at RMac. Thorough explanation of what is wrong. what can or cannot be done, how much time it will take and an honest estimate of what it will cost to fix your Mac. I will continue to use RMac and I recommend you do the same.

The Genius Bar wanted me to replace the "front board," which of course they were unable to do since the parts are no longer sold by Apple. Turns out, Randy just took out a nylon-bristle toothbrush and scrubbed off a little condensation corrosion on one of the boards, then blew out the case with some compressed air. He then charged the battery for a minute or so and, voila, it booted right up when he hit the button. After speaking with the "geniuses." I sought out several local computer repair shops in my area, including the Micro Center the geniuses sent me to. That Center wanted to charge me a flat fee of about $900 to send it off and have the front board replaced and the drive wiped and reformatted, with no chance of salvaging any information on it -- basically, a refurbishing of the existing hardware. After he got it back up and running (in about three minutes) Randy was willing to charge me a flat labor fee of $300 to make a bootable back-up, clean the system up, replace the HD with an SSD, upgrade the RAM from 4 to 8 MB, and make certain that all was running properly, including a full diagnostic check with report, virus and malware check with report, and a clean reinstall of the OS.
Description of Work: Replaced spinning disk drive with SSD, added RAM, tuned it up and MOST IMPORTANTLY, he got it running when the "geniuses" couldn't -- in less than three minutes!

Randy quickly responded to my needs. He was patient in answering my many questions, and was thorough in his analysis and explanation of the options available to me. Once I had received the new partitioned external HD, I had some confusion in understanding the back up procedures and he was helpful in this as well. He had just started an instructional "how to series" video category on his website and the first one was for creating a disk image of your HD. He gave me that link and I followed the video instructions on back up procedures and was able to do the process for myself successfully. Randy was here for 4 1/2 hours and I consider the time spent worth every penny.
Description of Work: I made an appointment with Randy to test my five year old Powermac G5 as the monitor was not functioning, and to also help me set up my new iMac which had just been delivered. On his arrival Randy confirmed that there was no video for my G5 even though there was nothing wrong with the monitor. In testing for the problem he saw that he could not reset the video card because a screw would not come out of the PCI card slot. I had the option of having him take the computer to try to remove the screw. Not knowing what the problem would be should he do this, he gave me the a cost breakdown for the possible replacement of the video card and logic board if that were needed. But after consideration I decided this was not cost effect since I now had the iMac. He then transferred data from the G5 to the iMac and established connections to the printers and scanner and adjusted the mail settings. Finally he pulled the drive from the G5 to place into a external enclosure, and within a week Fed Ex-ed the partitioned drive to me for re use. Once I got it plugged into my iMac he logged in remotely to help me set it up for Cash Plan Pro (cloud networking) which I had decided to purchase for the extra security and protection it gave me.

The situation was urgent as I need the computer for my work; Randy rescheduled his immediate appointments and was able to come to my house within a few hours after I called him. I have used RMACS for many years for general maintenance and repairs, and Randy`s prompt response to my situation was in keeping with his professionalism and concern for his clients. After he has a general idea of your problem he will give a timeframe and breakdown of costs before he does the work, and once he has diagnosed your problem will advise you of the possible options to deal with it. He clearly explains the procedures he takes and readily answers any technical questions you may have. We discussed my intention to purchase a new iMac with the OSX Lion which I intend to do later this summer, and in the meantime Randy felt that with the repairs he had made, my old G5 was good to go for at least awhile longer. So far it is running beautifully. Randy is definitely unique in the concern he has for his clients and in his extensive knowledge and experience. I would not consider using anyone else to work on my Mac. I recommend RMACS very highly.
Description of Work: My home Mac suddenly crashed. I called RMACS and described the symptoms, and from my description Randy thought it was a problem with the hard drive. The diagnosis was quickly confirmed when Randy tested my computer. He had brought a 1 TB Seagate hard drive with him and replaced the old 250 GB drive with it, and even though I did not have a complete back-up he was able to retrieve some of the data I had lost as well as help me reconfigure my internet connections. The process took about three hours.

He is okay and does a good job. The job resolved all the problems and gave us the equipment that we needed. My husband uses him from time to time for his computer work.

We had a problem with our macintosh computer. Randy was able access our computer software with my permissin and to walk me through the steps to determine the cause of our problem. After he eliminated the possibility of software problems, he determined that it had to be a problem with our (fairly new) speakers. He was right!!! He stated that his usual phone assistance charge was $62.50 per half-hour but didn't charge because "he hadn't really fixed the problem". He did identify the cause of the problem, which was what I needed. I do wish my car mechanics had the same attitude. However, I believe it was a gesture of good will to expand his customer base. Worked for me.
