+ -1 moreWe have an annual contract. They come out and check every three months or two months. They come out on the schedule. Unless something is wrong, they don't tell us. They just leave a note saying, "We've been there." The contract is $400, plus or minus a couple, a year. We haven't had termites.
Description of Work: We use Orkin for termite protection.

+ -1 moreJust to cancel the account which was just set up one hour prior, it took me 5-6 customer service reps to explain what I wanted to do. I suspect that once they get your credit card information on file, you're going to have real difficult time canceling their service. Watch out!
Description of Work: I contacted them to sign up a yearly service since I had their service when I used to live outside of VA. About one hour later, I've found a different company which can perform a similar service (and I hope they take care of my small ant problem in my living room) with 1/2 ORKIN price. So, I called back ORKIN one hour later to cancel my account. They put me on hold for a while, then transfer my call to a next person, then to a next person. Also, I do not like their practice getting payment/credit card information BEFORE they first come out to take an initial look at the problem. I argue on this point when I first signed up with them. Her response was nothing extra ordinary, "We won't charge you until the service is done." But I just don't like that general practice that they ask your credit card information BEFORE they perform any service. I DO remember I had real difficult time terminating their service when I was in NC as well.

+ -1 moreIt went fine until I noticed the technician pouring a brown sandy substance all over my flower beds. I asked what it was and he told me it was to attract ants. I have two dogs and I asked was it harmful to dogs. He replied no and that dogs do not go near this product. Both of my dogs were so interested in it and one started to eat the substance. Long story short when I called the Orkin office and found out it was indeed harmful to pets I was shocked. My dog is fine but I had to spend all day hosing down the areas all over the perimeter of my house and keep the dogs in. Poison control and my Veterinarian had me watch my dog for any symptoms and he is fine. I canceled my Orkin contract and asked that they better educate the technicians.
Description of Work: I have a seasonal monthly service to spray inside and out for ants.
