I had a great experience start to finish. From the initial estimate, from contract, to communication about the timelines and modifications to the project, and especially the level of work performed - everything was professional and everyone was pleasant to deal with. Steve was the contractor assigned to the job - when he demo'd the shower, we were both shocked to find there was no water proof membrane under the flooring and everything that had been done to the shower was cosmetic only - nothing was done correctly. He was surprised I hadn't fallen through the ceiling yet! So needless to say, I was glad that I was having the work done!! Steve worked with me, patiently answered my questions, was timely, cleaned up after each day, checked all the design points for the accent glass tile to the locations of the seat and shelving in the shower stall. He was able to use the left over glass tile to do a backsplash around my sink, a quick call to Michelle confirmed the modifications to the project and no time was lost. This was a very small project - but it was important to me. I was never made to feel that I wasn't worthy of their best throughout the process. I am sure they deal with much bigger and more expensive projects - but I never felt like a lesser customer. I would definitely recommend/refer and use Moss Home Services in the future.
Description of Work: I moved into a town house in March. The floor of the shower in the en-suite bathroom was not level and the water did not slope toward the drain. It pooled into the upper right corner and had to be kicked/pushed over to the drain. It was clear that the former owners pulled up the tub in the bathroom and made a larger shower in the same space. I suspected it hadn't been done correctly at all. I asked Moss Home Services for a quote to fix the floor and as a result, retile the shower stall. It was a proactive repair, I would have liked to turn it into a larger bathroom remodel, but that wasn't in the budget.

Overall Moss was excellent in all aspects of initial contact, estimates, workmanship, and customer service. I have numerous projects over an extended period to complete on my townhouse. I contacted Moss to provide estimates on about 22 projects, many of which have to be completed in a specific order. Called Moss who sent out a representative to evaluate each project. A few days later received the estimates and asked for a detailed contract on the first project which was provided the next day. Since dig down to the foundation was dependent on dry weather worked with their customer service department and was rescheduled several times because of rain. Day of project plumber showed up on time, gave a complete explanation of how work would be accomplished. He provided a thick plastic matt where the dirt would be deposited, saving my lawn from a mess of dirt from the dig down. While the hole was being dug he fixed the bathroom plumbing on the pipe, installed the shower diverter and secured everything, excellent work. He then finished installing the new PVC and copper pipe, filled and sealed the hole. His work proved excellent as the hurricane Sandy came in days after and not one bit of water or moisture was noted on the inside wall foundation around the new pipe. On the bathroom wall he had to cut out a larger piece of wallboard to properly secure the new PVC pipe and shower head. The next day Moss had their handyman here to finish the work. This was my first experience with Moss and I am extremely pleased with their performance and professionalism. I would certainly recommend them and plan to use them on other projects.
Description of Work: Turn the water off at the street. Dig down to where the water line enters the house through the foundation. Remove and dispose of the concrete patch around the water line. Cut the existing copper line and install a PVC sleeve to protect the pipe through the concrete. Repair the cut line. Provide and install a new cement patch around the PVC. Provide and install spray foam around the copper line and PVC pipe to seal the air gap. Remove and dispose of the galvanized steel piping in the basement shower. Provide and install new CPVC pipe where the steel pipe was removed. Install a new homeowner provided shower diverter to fit the existing hole.

It was not a good experience. Making the initial apt. and doing the walk through with the senior manager they sent out went well, however that was the best part....they never performed services for us because they never could send us an estimate for even one of the projects we discussed. We met in June 2012 and since the july 4th holiday was coming up, the Moss representative said the estimate would take a little longer so we were looking at about 1 1/2 weeks which was totally understandable. After hearing nothing for about 3 weeks i sent an email follow up and was told that they were really busy and it would be in the next several days, of course no problem, although I did think it was their responsibility to communicate the missed deadline with me and just explain the delay, all understandable at this point. After another 1 1/2 weeks i sent another email follow up and was told he was working on my estimates that night and i would have them the next day, again I made it clear that doing one project and therefore getting one estimate at a time was good with us. Hearing nothing for another week, i called the company to see if he still worked there. The person answering the phone told me he was and took a message that i was just following up again. At this point i was so frustrated with the absolute lack of professionalism and follow up that i didn't think I could do business with a company that couldn't communicate. Scary to think of signing a contract, putting down a deposit then hearing nothing....the initial discussions should be an indication of how the company treats their customers and this was not off to a good start. I sent an email to the senior manager i had met with indicating that i no longer would be inclined to have their services and it must be great for them to have so much work that my approximately $60k in work was not important. I totally understand being busy and that's a great situation to be in, but that does not excuse communication to potential customers...if i'd even been receiving status reports about the delays that would have been more acceptable. I received a call back with a voice message from the person that did the walk through saying that it was his fault, not the company's fault (weird since he was a senior manager there) and they were really busy and he would work on my estimates that night for me to please call him back. I didn't get the message until late that evening so i was curious if he would do the right thing and get the estimates done, send them to me and we could discuss the situation. That didn't happen and i've never heard anything back....i also thought perhaps someone else with the company would follow up, explain that there was a personal situation going on with my contact there and they wanted to touch base with me. I have heard nothing from him or anyone at Moss beyond the last message from my contact saying he would complete my estimates that night if i would give him a second chance.... I remain angry and frustrated given the amount of time i spent with the senior manager walking through and discussing all of our projects then waiting for nearly 6 weeks, just to have it all disolve....it set me back considerably as i tried to get it all done within a window of time i personally had to deal with it.
Description of Work: Unfortunately, the only services performed was a very detailed walk through by a senior manager from Moss in June 2012, during which I explained and showed examples of the approximately 5 projects we wanted to complete (master bath remodel, brick walkways, remodel of back entrance area to include pantry, laundry room and hall closet, outdoor lighting, and new front door). Throughout the initial meeting he seemed engaged, took a lot of notes and explained the operations of the company. I also repeated many times that although we eventually wanted to complete all of these projects, we had prioritized the projects with the back entrance first, then the master bath and the other projects could wait...then we even discussed our kitchen remodel which would come when all else was finished. After 6 weeks of waiting for estimates (was told i would have something 1 1/2 weeks from the initial apt.) and email follow ups from me (restating that one project at a time was fine), i never received any follow up and let them know we couldn't do business with a company like this.

We really appreciate your post as we are always looking for ways to improve our company. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and we sincerely apologize for not leaving that impression. You are correct, those missed deadlines should have been communicated to you and being busy is not an excuse. We fully understand this problem and since June 2012 we have created a new position that works solely on getting our estimates out in very timely manner. We’ve acknowledged this issue and we’ve made steps to correct it and prevent it from happening. One of our owners, Pete Hampel reached out to you last week in hopes of speaking to you directly. Moss is a company that makes it a point to communicate with our clients throughout the entire process with a great deal of professionalism. We understand your frustration and we sincerely apologize for setting you back in your planning.

Moss did a great job. They got everything done quickly, and did it right. Danny McHale was our contact with Moss, and he kept in touch the entire time. I was working with another company to build a portico over our front door. We needed to tear out the old porch slab and put in a reinforced larger one. The other company?s price for the slabwork was high, but Moss was able to come in at a much better cost. They do a fair amount of work in our neighborhood and have a great reputation, so I felt comfortable with them ? even though it meant I would be dealing with two separate companies. Moss talked to us about the various materials that could be used, and recommended slate over brick because of the difficulty of matching the brick color and grout with the front of our house. It was a good recommendation. The first day involved digging. I was fretting about the tulip bulbs I hadn?t located; they would now be lost under the new slab. Bless those Moss contractors; at the end of the day, they presented me with a container full of the bulbs they had located in the dirt! At mid-project, I was concerned about the measurements (our 1960's-era house is not exactly built at right angles). Danny came out and re-checked all the dimensions to ensure it would come out okay. Moss chose solid and sturdy flagstone, and arranged it beautifully. They got the curve of the rounded steps just right. They gave me photos of the rebar underpinnings in case my county?s permits office wanted proof that the portico was adequately supported. Moss went above and beyond to make our 1960?s brick rambler new porch look great, and make us a satisfied customer.
Description of Work: Tear out old concrete porch slab, approx 4' x 8'. Replace with new slab measuring 11.5' x 6' with rounded front. Build step leading to the porch. Reinforce with rebar so it can support a portico. Cover both slab and step with Pennsylvania flagstone.
We spent over a year trying to find a contractor to redesign two very outdated but small bathrooms in our 1970s split level home. Finally, we found Moss via Angie's List and asked for a quote. They came in well within our desired budget with the added bonus of being extremely professional, family owned and not using subcontractors...everyone who works on your project is an employee of Moss. This is critical for ensuring quality control of all facets of the work Moss engages in. Moss is a "soup to nuts" design build company, so everything to do with the project is executed by Moss, plumbing, tiling, carpentry, painting...everything including help with design services and picking out all the materials to achieve the look you desire. What sets Moss apart is that everything is executed flawlessly. Now, a company is only as good as the people doing the work. Moss assigned a crew to our project and that was the group of folks that executed everything; they were in our house for two months...frankly by the time they left they felt like family (very talented family). Marty and Elwood Fletcher were the primary members of the construction crew. Father and son, this unbelievable team truly were the critical reason why this multiple project effort went so smoothly and resulted in a truly astounding transformation of our dowdy old bathrooms into two modern, functional and spa-like spaces that are now our favorite retreats. Marty and Elwood are not only fine craftsman, but they have a finely tuned design eye and made several critical suggestions that truly turned our bathroom redesigns into timeless classics. Then there is Frank Stone, the plumber for the entire project. All the plumbing lines had to be redone. Frank's work will never be seen because it is hidden behind walls, never-the-less, he finished every single joint, line, and valve flawlessly and positioned new lines to ensure effective placement of the new plumbing fixtures. His obvious pride in his work and his expertise means that I don't have to worry about any leaks or malfunctions. John Hendricks was the foreman for the job and let us know what was going to happen, checked to ensure we were happy with the job progress and ensured that any changes to schedule were relayed. The teams showed up at 7:30 in the morning and left by 3:30, cleaning up behind themselves and showing progress every day. This was the most seamless remodel I've experienced. Would I use Moss Contracting again, absolutely! And I would insist that Marty and Elwood were the leads for the job! Thank you Moss and team for a truly wonderful experience.
Description of Work: Took down to the studs and subflooring two bathrooms and completely rebuilt them. This meant correcting plumbing, rewiring electrical, tiling floors,, dry walling, building out tile shower floor, installing custom cabinets, painting, installing quartz countertops, installing new tub, building shower, installing toilets and fans and also built out and installed a pocket door. the kitchen and dining room.

The year before we contracted with Moss, we had interviewed four other contractors and chosen a company with a significantly lower estimate. That company ended up filing for bankruptcy, and we lost a very large deposit. So when we decided to try again, we looked for companies that not only did good work but also were recommended by suppliers for their financial stability and longevity. We learned of Moss through the TW Perry website, and we ended up doing a careful comparison of Moss against several other contractors based on supplier references, customer reviews on Angie's List and Consumers' Checkbook, and our own comfort in working with the company. Moss won on all fronts. The owner Jason Hempel worked with us to plan the project we wanted, unlike some others who tried to push us toward their ideas. He understood our budget needs and helped us stay close to our target. Though the cost ended up being more than we had planned initially, we feel in the end we received a fair price for quality work, and that the experience was much less stressful than it could have been. Moss also enabled us to work directly with the company's subcontractors for our driveway, walkway and siding of the main house. The Moss employees were all experienced and a pleasure to work with, and when subcontractors were used, they were also longtime Moss partners and top notch at their crafts. Our project manager Ryan Pettit was able to help with ideas along the way, either making the project better architecturally or enabling some cost savings. The project did take longer than we had expected, but that was due in part to heavy rains when we started in the fall of 2011, and an unexpected issue with the foundation. Moss probably could have pushed some of the details faster near the end, but we liked that we were not forced to make decisions way in advance or without time to review options. The Moss team was also wonderful in taking on other little house projects we were able to complete at the same time. All in all, we enjoyed working with everyone at Moss and love every part of our addition!
Description of Work: We contracted with Moss to tear down our one-car carport and build primarily a one-story addition consisting of a two-car garage, a mudroom area, laundry room/pantry and a den. We also included a second-level master bedroom closet. Our design plan included an oversize 2-car garage (approximately 24' x 21'), a built-in mudroom unit for coats/shoes, and a built-in pantry. We extended off the main house approximately 11' in front and 6' in the back, and angled a wall along our property line.
Overall, we are very satisfied with the work. Moss was very responsive when we contacted them about an estimate. The manager that visited our home and provided the estimate was friendly and thorough. We made a few corrections to the initial contract before signing and Moss easily accommodated our needs. Almost all communication was via email. The work was scheduled to begin on 8/14 and complete on 8/17. Both the handyman and electrician arrived on time on 8/14. During the initial walk through with the handyman, we discovered that he was only given one set of french doors to install, when the contract called for two sets. We contacted their office to clarify the oversight, and Moss was able to get a second set of doors without impacting the work schedule significantly. The work proceeded quickly. Both the handyman and electrician were courteous, contained the debris, and cleaned up after themselves. The electrician told us that he was finished on 8/16. I tested all of the cables on 8/17 and found that three of the four data cables did not work. We contacted the office, and Moss sent another electrician on 8/20 to address the issue. The cables were repaired within a few hours. While the original completion date was 8/17, all work was not completed until the end of the day on 8/20. I believe this is partially due to the unexpected hardwood floor repairs. After the work was completed, we waited a week and a half without receiving the final bill from Moss. We contacted them, they sent the bill, and the project is complete.
Description of Work: We had a formal living room that we wanted to convert into an office. The living room was at the front corner of the house. One of the interior walls formed an open entryway about 8 feet wide with two decorative columns on either side. The other interior wall formed an open passage to the dining room also about 8 feet wide. The floor throughout is tongue-in-groove hardwood. Moss Home Services roughed-in the two interior walls, installed french doors in both openings, installed drywall and trim, and painted to match the rest of the surroundings. When they removed the two decorative columns, we discovered that the hardwood flooring had been installed around the columns leaving two holes. Moss patched the holes with nearly identical, matching flooring pieces. Moss Home Services also installed two cable outlets in the office. One was in the wall and consisted of one phone cable, one coax cable, and two data cables. The other outlet is in the floor and consists of an electrical outlet and two data cables. The phone cable, coax cable, and data cables were all run to our basement utility room and connected to existing junction boxes and patch panels. In addition, we needed a leaky basement window repaired along with some drywall patching and painting in the basement. Moss Home Services applied missing flashing on the outside of the window and replaced a portion of the drywall surrounding the inside of the window that was water damaged. They also patched five drywall holes in the same general area that were about 4"x4" each.

Nathan came out on the specified day right on time. He did a site survey of what I wanted done and took measurements of the garage. A couple of days later, I was emailed the Statement of Work (SOW) with the bid amount. It was exactly at the price that Nathan had estimated and what I had budgeted for the project. The date for the start of the job was specified on that document and Matt (their general contractor) called me a couple of days before then to verify that I was ready. On that morning, Bobby called me and told me that he was on the way and that he would arrive in 30 minutes. Bobby and his son Nathan got right to work and had the temporary walls up and the old beam removed within the first couple of hours. The structuring for the new beam took several hours to make sure that it was right. Two other guys (Dave and Mark) showed up when it was time to install the 500 pound beam. They wrestled the massive "I-beam" into place. Bobby welded the supports to secure the beam in place. At the end of the day, I was able to park my car right in the middle of the garage : ) The next day, Jeremy called and said he would be at my house at 0900. I could of set my watch based on his punctuality. I cannot give enough positive feedback with the quantity and quality of Jeremy's work. He was the drywall guy and the concrete guy and my consultant. He had the same desire to make the room more than "just a garage" as so many people have commented. He treated the job as if he were doing it for himself. My contact with their office was Michelle and she had all of the answers I needed before, during and after the project was done. I highly recommend Moss Home Services without reservation and will hire them again for other "bigger than me" jobs.
Description of Work: I wanted the pole in the middle of my garage removed. I had already hit it several times in the past, but when I hit the door of my new car on it, that was it! I found this contractor on this website and their ratings were very high. I wanted the pole removed and a steel beam installed to replace the existing wood beam that needed the pole to work. There was also drywall damage from a previous resident hitting it with their car. I had already hired a Structural Engineer to spec the materials required to do the job. Moss used that drawing to get the permit for the job. They removed the old beam, installed the new steel beam and did all of the drywall work to make the garage "paint ready".

It was an excellent experience. I would highly recommend the firm to others.
Description of Work: My upstairs shower stall - that had been completely re-tiled in Jan 2009 – failed this summer and water cascaded down into a lower bedroom in June. The assumption was that the drain had not been properly connected and it was causing water to back up and overflow. Moss Home Services sent an experienced handyman to address the issue. He surgically removed the shower floor and only ONE row of existing tile. A licensed plumber repaired the plumbing and the handyman proceeded to rebuild the shower floor, replace the pan and finally re-tile the shower floor and curb beautifully. He finished by repairing the ceiling in the lower level and coming back to put clear silicon caulk on the new tiles in the shower.

Wow. My A/C stopped working on the hottest day in a long time. My A/C company checked it and found it was an electrical problem, so I started calling electricians...I called about fifteen before my friend recommended Moss Building and Design from her list. Most didn't answer their phones. One said they could come tomorrow. Another one said they could come Monday. Still another asked about Tuesday. Clearly they didn't realize it was 92 degrees INSIDE my house. One fellow said he could come today after 4:00, but would have to charge me $144/hour, including travel time. When I spoke to Linda at Moss, she said she thought she could get someone out to my house today. She called me about five minutes later to confirm and gave me the name of the technician. When Butch showed up, he was very personable and professional. He diagnosed the problem in under ten minutes and had if fixed in five minutes more. Moss Building and Design won't be the fifteenth electrician I call the next time I need one. They will be FIRST! I give them my highest recommendation."

Our entire experience with Moss was very good. The project was completed on time and within budget. The quality of the work was excellent and we had no surprises.
Description of Work: I contracted Moss to help with a first floor remodeling effort in addition to a few more fixed around the house (drywall, leaky third floor plumbing). I have to say, the experience far exceeded my expectations. The quality of the work on our first floor was amazing -- they laid down brand new flooring, fixed holes in the drywall, installed recessed lighting, repainted and hung new shades. Our first floor was transformed from a dungeon to a place you would actually want to hang out! Not only that, but our condo had contracted out to another plumbing service to fix a leak that was a total disaster. After our experience with Moss, we asked if they could provide a plumber to fix the issue instead -- they did a fantastic job and cleanly patched up the holes in the drywall that had been the result of years of leaky pipes. I would highly recommend Moss and I will be using them again for addition work on the house.

Had Nathan come out to look at our basment and powder room in order to have them remodeled. He came promptly on the date we discussed. He said he should have an estimate for us within the week. It never came. We contacted him a week after he said the estimate would arrive. They were very nice and apologized. Nathan said he had gotten behind but would have the estimate by the end of the weekend. It is a week after that and we still have not received the estimate. Needless to say we will not be using Moss. If they are as punctual with their work as they are with their estimate, our work will never be done. It is now a month after his original visit and it is like we don't exist. This is also a job that would probably cost at least 20,000, so it was not a puny job. Their loss. Bad way to run a business.

They were very professional in replacing the panel. They charged what the estimate said -No more no less. I am very happy with their service and will be calling them for any home repair or services needed in the future.
Description of Work: I had the electrical panel replaced in our house. When we had other electricians come in to do other work I always asked about the electrical panel because it would make buzzing noises periodically. I got a variety of answers none were the same. Finally we had issues with light fixtures burning out and decided to bite the bullet and replace the panel. I asked the electrician what the funny noises were and he said that the breakers were so old they were not making contact to the bus. Every time it tried to draw power and there was a loose connection we would get buzzing noises. Finally someone had a decent answer to what was going on.

Both jobs went well. They were completed quickly (I think 3 days for Job 1, 2 days for Job 2), with relatively very little mess (drywall work is always messy!) For Job 1: We LOVE the way the new lights let us use the rooms better, and no more going down a flight of stairs to turn off 3 different switches that my kid left on. All the staff were very nice and professional. The master electrician made some great suggestions on placement and types of lights, and the idea to trade one not-needed switch for a nicely placed outlet. For Job 2: This was a simpler job, but having water gushing out of your ceiling is never fun and always at least a little scary. It turned out to be just a pinhole leak. Quick and easy repair by the plumber. There was a sizeable chunk of drywall that needed replacing though. Since we had just learned of Moss Home Services when they did our electrical work it was really nice to have a single number to call and get the entire repair completed quickly and easily from a trusted source. I am currently making a "honey do" list that I plan to contact Moss Home Services about, as they offer hourly rates for plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and handyman services.
Description of Work: Job 1: Added recessed lighting into our living room and basement. Repositioned and added several electrical switches, and added dimmers to some. Added several electrical outlets. Repaired one vanity lamp and installed it in place of an old fixture. Replaced a second vanity light. Repaired drywall in ceiling and repainted to match. Job 2: Repaired a leaking copper pipe in basement ceiling, redrywalled, and repainted ceiling to match.

We gutted our whole first floor and remodeled our kitchen. This required pulling out old and replacing with new floor, appliances and redesign of floor plan. We purchased our appliances, cabinets, sinks and toilet and Moss installed them. Moss provided the electrical and pluming work which was extensive. Moss worked with us when we had some cabinet issues that caused some delays. For someone who had not done anything like this before they kept us advised as the project proceeded so I never had any surprises. Moss suggested the change in our beam in the kitchen and it really was a great modifications that made a major difference in the openness of that area. We are very pleased with the finished product and have had numerous compliments on the workmanship. Oh, and they always cleaned up at the end of the day so we weren't tracking a mess into the rest of the house. I felt they were proud of their craftsmanship and took pains to make things right. I would definitely recommend them for any home remodeling project you may be considering.
Description of Work: Renovation of the first floor of our home. Included moving walls, replacing a beam between kitchen and eating area with I Beam that was placed up in the ceiling. Made the area much more open. Did electrical, drywall, installation of cabinets & appliances. Hardwood flooring was done by another contract.

We'd been considering a kitchen remodel ever since our dishwasher stopped working 2 years ago. We met with Jason Hampel at the Capital Home show last spring and were very impressed with the way they approached the home remodeling business. After looking at 5 other companies, we were about to sign a contract when our refrigerator flooded from our kitchen into our basement. To complicate matters, we were hosting a family reunion 4 weeks from when the flood occurred. We wanted to use Moss for the kitchen remodel and were considering using the insurance company's recommendation for the basement (since we weren't planning to change anything. Moss offered to repair the basement within the insurance settlement in order to make our lives easier. The basement was done when they promised it would be, just in time for the party. The kitchen was a much bigger job, so it took longer to get things moving. Our sales consultant, Valarie, worked with us throughout the selection process. She helped coordinate things for Moss and made sure we stayed on track with our decision making. She left it up to us to meet with each of the suppliers (cabinets, faucet, sink, counter tops, and tile backsplash). Most of the suppliers that Moss recommended were very good. I was a little disappointed that no one from Moss actively coordinated the overall look of the kitchen. it was left up to us to determine which color combinations and material combinations were appropriate. We also got no direction from Moss or Fergussen (the cabinet supplier) on the functional aspects of the kitchen. The focus from both Valarie and Megan, the cabinet "designer" was solely on aesthetics. If fact, the only time Megan came to see the kitchen was for final measurements. By that point, any changes had to be rushed in order to make our scheduled start date. While I would recommend Moss as a contractor, I wouldn't recommend Megan as a designer, unless you already know how to make good use of space. Megan knew the cabinet specs well and explained the minimum sizes of various cabinets in order to accommodate the layout we wanted. She never asked "what will you be using [that] for?" or said "You might want to think about [...] as a possibility" Where Moss really shined was in getting the job done. While they were initially reluctant to share their schedule with us, they were working at our house almost constantly during the remodel. They always had enough people to do the work they'd set for themselves that day. Friends who have had work done complain about on-again off-again nature of remodeling work. Moss arranged all their materials to be available exactly when they needed them so we were without a kitchen only as long as necessary. They even accommodated my request to have a working kitchen by my birthday, just 5 weeks after they'd started. I was really impressed with their attention to detail in all aspects of the job. They checked multiple times to ensure the counters were perfectly level, including shimming up the cabinets (in some cases more than an inch) to get there due to an unlevel floor. I would happily recommend Moss for their skills and attention to detail. Just shop around for a designer first.
Description of Work: Moss repaired our basement and remodeled our kitchen from subfloor to rafters.

We truly appreciate your recommendation! Our team really does pay great attention to detail and that's how we manage to produce results that we are proud of. We were happy to give you a working kitchen for your birthday! We emphasize being as accurate as possible with our initial project timelines. It was a pleasure working with you and we hope that you are still enjoying your "new" home!
We met with Jason Hampel from Moss Building & Design a number of times before signing a contract. Jason was most amenable as to dates, times, and location in reference to helping us come to terms with contract details. I can’t stress enough how responsive Jason and the folks at Moss Building & Design were during the entire process. From start to finish, the Moss team was extremely helpful, courteous, and most interested in delivering the right product for our application. They provided an excellent carpenter and very knowledgeable electrician; Very well versed with county and state code. Again, no surprises—I certainly feel you get what you pay for in this case. The team at Moss Building & Design: architected, constructed, and finalized a two story addition at my residence within budget and time frame. No surprises! They deliver.
Description of Work: Architecture, carpentry, electrical, siding, roofing.

The electrician and his helper performed the work within the estimated time frame. The final bill was actually less than we anticipated. These men were very professional and we were comfortable having them in our home.
Description of Work: We had various electrical issues in the house, from switches that were shorting out, to recessed lights that were blowing. These problems were repaired. We also had Moss install an outdoor outlet.

Description of Work: Moss created custom wainscoting on our main floor foyer walls, staircase and upstairs landing. It added a great deal of beauty and architectural depth to our home. Our only regret is that we didn't do it years earlier.

Renovating bathrooms is a daunting task to me! With the help of Jodi, Moss's customer service person extraordinaire, I was able to begin planning each bathroom. Jodi referred me to Ferguson for my selection of cabinets, faucets and accessories. She then accompanied me to pick out tile for the floors and walls as well as granite for the countertops! Moss coordinated the delivery of everything to my house and when it arrived, every item down to toilet flusher knobs was marked clearly as to which bathroom it was to go in! The workmen, led by Bob, arrived promptly each morning, and informed me what they were going to do each day. Bob was always reachable by cell phone if there were any questions. The house was left neat and clean each day when they left. I am happy to report that we are nearly finished with the renovation and everything looks wonderful....so wonderful that we decided to have Moss renovate our 3 upstairs full bathrooms! It should be noted that Moss did a full kitchen renovation for us 6 years ago that went equally well! Moss Building and Design as a whole proved to be very pleasant and trustworthy to work with. The do what they promise, and do it well!
Description of Work: We hired Moss to renovate a formal powder room and a small laundry powder room as well as replace a tile floor in the laundry-powder area.. Moss came in and provided all the co-ordination needed to get the demolition of both the floors and appliances taken care of. They then began to install floors, cabinets, accessories, lighting, sinks and toilets.

Thank you, we really appreciate your feedback. We take pride in knowing that you continue to be satisfied!
Moss came over to look at our space and had some good ideas for the basement. We weren't sure about how we would configure the space and the owner, Jason Hampel, had some good suggestions. We felt very comfortable from start to finish. He pointed out things that we had not considered and ways to improve the space. We both felt he was very honest. Our basement flooded one week prior the start date (we woke up to nearly a foot of water throughout the basement). Moss was very patient with us and even sent over a plumber to help us that day and gave suggestions on who to call for waterproofing companies. They also gave us the name of a company who could re-route the water in our yard. We were not comfortable starting the work until we felt that the basement was "safe" from flooding and they understood our concerns. Work started about two months later. At no point did we feel rushed to start work. Our PM was great - he was readily available by phone, as was the owner. We both work out of the home and I trusted the workers who were there each day when we were not. They were on time, professional and clean. We were able to communicate well with all of their employees (which is not always the case with some companies). In fact, the electrician was great - he helped us reconfigure some other outlets on the unfinished side of the space to support appliances (w/d, freezer, etc). I was impressed with how accurate the timeline was. At any time we had questions, they were addressed immediately. I would use Moss again without question.
Description of Work: We had an unfinished basement with original exterior door and windows (house is 40+ years old). Moss finished the basement, added recessed lighting, outlets, added a closet with shelving, replaced all the basement windows and door. They also replaced all the doors and door frames in our home.

Thank you! We appreciate your feedback. It was a pleasure working with you!
We contacted Moss originally about finishing the basement and they got back to us in a timely manner. They were not the most inexpensive quote we got, however, we really felt like they took the time to listen to what we needed out of the space and worked with us to figure out the best configuration to maximize the space. They gave us multiple options and talked us through them which was great for me, because I have a hard time visualizing what a completely empty space would look like with walls up. I felt like they really made the extra effort to make sure we were getting what we wanted. The guys who worked in our house were very professional and respectful of our home. We have 2 small children and my husband works from home (which is not easy during a remodel) and they were very considerate of that. They would give us a heads up when they knew that the days work was going to be extra loud, such as drilling into the concrete floor for bathroom work. The people they sent us to for picking out tile and carpeting etc were great to work with. They finished the basement on time and on budget. And we love the work that they did. We immediately had them remodel the powder room when they finished the basement. And in 2011 the exterior siding and shutters, and the upstairs bath and the back exterior door to the deck. Not to mention having one of their handy men in for the day to do patching and light electrical and a list of odds and ends. We will not hesitate to contact Moss again when the next project comes up. They have truly earned our respect with not only the work they have done, but the friendly manner everyone they employ seems to have.
Description of Work: Moss has completed a number of jobs for us since moving into our home in the summer of 2009. We started with having them completely finish our basement with a bedroom, full bath, living space as well as storage area. We have also had them do a complete remodel of our powder room, replace our siding and shutters, replace exterior doors as well as a partial remodel of a full bath upstairs. We have also used their handyman services for various tasks around our home.
