Highly recommend this company! I first called Moss Building and Design to seek design advice for a new laundry room and expanded MBR closet I was building. The company assigned Brandon to me and he visited within a few days of the request. Not only did Brandon provide excellent advise (knowing full-well that I was going to do most of the work myself), he was extremely polite and required no payment for the consultation. He just asked that Moss be considered should I need any electrical or plumbing work on the project or for anything else in the future. I was blown away. Other firms I'd called to request consultation advice from either didn't provide that kind of service, or wanted upwards of $200 just for coming out! After he left, Brandon offered that I could call him anytime with any construction questions I might run across while doing the work and he'd be happy to provide technical advice or tips over the phone. Again, amazing. I had already contracted for electrical service before talking to Moss... otherwise I would have called them. But I was still in need of plumbing service for the project and contacted Moss for an estimate. While other companies were unable to send plumbers for other than emergency services for the next month, Moss sent a team to meet my rapid construction schedule. The plumber (Dustin) and plumber's helper (David) were on-time, proficient, polite and personable. They did a great job and worked efficiently... accommodating my request and ideas for routing the plumbing to make the most of the small space and maximize wall space. In the DC/NOVA area, it was so refreshing to work with a customer-service focused, hungry, polite, accommodating, and proficient building and services contractor. I will definitely call them for future work. Good job, guys.

Working with Moss Building and Design was awesome. Our principle designer had great ideas and suggestions. We had our own customer car manager who was available when we needed her. The project manager's number 1 priority was to be sure we were totally satisfied with each aspect of the project-- and we were. They helped us stay within our budget, they stayed on schedule arriving every day on time. The licensed technicians performed their job with care and professionalism. I would hire Moss again in a heart beat. Top notch

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was very good. I paid for the materials so I spent about $550. They finished the job on time, they got here on time, and they were professional so I am very satisfied. I definitely recommend their company. They are very responsible. I like them a lot. I will be using them again. Actually I used them again for another time. I called the same company for the handyman to fix the mirror that was falling down. I used them for the first time through Angie's List and then I used them again for the second time. I think the pricing is pretty good.

So far, so good. It is a big piece of a mirror. It's the same as always, it's pretty good. They were professional and on time.

When our kitchen contractor failed to completely finish the job and left several major items undone, we hired Moss Design and Build to finish the job. For $499 we received 8 hours of handyman/electrical service. We ended up using the handyman for 5 hours and the electrician for 3 hours. They both arrived right at 7:30 a.m. and got right to work. The handyman, Dolan, sent me to Lowes for certain things he would need (materials are not included, just the labor). He was concerned about getting the job done correctly. Whereas, the kitchen contractor cut a jagged and unfinished notch in the top cabinet under the cooktop to clear the gas line, Dolan finished it off and created a border that looks exactly like the back of the cabinet. He did the same for a crude notch cut in the second drawer as well. Now the drawers look as if the cutouts were part of the design and finished product. He also cut a vent in a cabinet that holds TV equipment in the kitchen and installed a similar vent in the half wall on the other side so the hot air can vent into the family room. Until this was done, we had to leave open a cabinet door so the equipment did not overheat. He caulked various areas where there were obvious gaps between the cabinets and baseboards and he installed a new faucet and mentioned that the faucet we had paid for with the remodel had not been installed correctly. Brad, the electrician, installed a GFI outlet on the far side of the kitchen island. The original contractor had installed one inside the cabinet under the sink, which made it impractical for use by any counter top appliance. Brad also fixed a wireless doorbell that wouldn't stop ringing and adjusted an outdoor security light so it stays on for ten minutes vice the one minute it had been set to. When he installed the outlet, he had to take out the microwave drawer and discovered that it had not been correctly installed so he did it right. Both of these men were polite and professional. They didn't waste anytime and I definitely got 8 hours of work out of them. It was a great experience after a not-so-great experience with our kitchen remodel and I'm very appreciative to Moss Design and Build for their professionalism and for completing a job someone else had failed to do. I would most definitely use this company again.

The guys were great. The company was honest and very easy to deal with. The roof repairs were much more than anticipated, but Moss was eager to work with us. Then the repairs weren't as much as the proposal and Moss was quick to let us know that the invoice would be much less than the proposal.

Moss Design and Build We used Moss Design and Build to add on two new porches and remodel the kitchen. They do quality work., as do the subs that they use on a regular basis, such as masons or flooring installers or roofers. The project came in at budget. Mind you we expanded the kitchen remodel and approved every piece so that the final bill was as expected. The porches: a new front porch was added using IPE wood with a pressure treated pergola. They have never used IPE wood before and there were some glitches in terms of install but they stuck with it and the final product is beautiful. They subbed out the flagstone steps and they are beautiful as well, great work. The back porch is a very standard screened in porch that we are very happy with and enjoying three seasons. The porch roof, also their usual sub for this, did really good work in matching our existing roof and the new one for this porch. The kitchen was essentially a tear down, new cabinets, floor and granite. A wall was removed and a door sealed and a new window put in. We have a new great kitchen. The attention to detail was super. Two carpenters Terry and Dave Prescott had to work hard to make it all fit as the house is 60 years old and not everything is plumb. The new flooring, again a sub that they use all the time is an almost perfect match the flooring in the rest of the house. Their electrician, Greg, is phenomenal. He was thoughtful from light switch placement to under cabinet lighting. The project manager, Bryon Maruca, was excellent in his explanations, attention to detail and kind and funny manner. He was in almost daily contact with us. He heard every question and concern we had. We communicated by phone, and email, some weeks on an almost daily basis. He made site visits on average once a week. . Timing: Most delays were typical of this industry such as permit approvals by the city and delivery of materials etc. The only downside occurred when they were short staffed at the front end of the project and the number of expected crew for the day was less. Apparently Moss is a popular builder, so they are very busy. However, we are pleased with the quality of the work and attention to detail. If some detail was not to our liking, they were happy and quick to change it.

Worked started on day of ice storm. Team contacted us to confirm they would start. Work continued for three days. They were on-site every morning ahead of the scheduled time. Replacement included redoing dining room ceiling (with curves along edge), Powder room ceiling, hall way panel, closet, and cutout in family room. Patches were completed and primed for us to paint. Their work was superb. You cannot see repairs from original after we repainted to match color. They let us know of a possible repair needed in the garage and returned to complete last patch during lunch time after repair had been made. I would use them for future work. Their price was competitive and slightly better than other quotes we received.

This is the company I've been searching for! Sonny came to do the roof. He was on time, incredibly professional, polite and did a fabulous job. He replaced shingles, quickly detected the reason for my leak into my bathroom and fixed the issues. He also climbed up into the attic just to make sure there were no additional issues caused by the leak. Then he bundled the shingles back up better than they were originally packaged and placed them back in my garage where they were. He finished the job very quickly and was just a joy to work with. If I EVER need exterior work again I will call Moss and ask for Sonny! On to the interior. Dolan was running a few minutes behind (traffic was really bad that day) and called before he was to arrive to let me know he was running 10 minutes late. Who does that anymore? I was so impressed. He arrived and was very polite and professional. I had him do some touch up (fixing cracks and nail pops) throughout my first and second floor and paint my two story stair well. He accomplished more than I thought he would in one day. I would highly recommend Moss (in fact I already have)!

I have a rental house, which turns over in July. The first week of August, I contacted Moss Home Services with a list of items to address. The third week of August, someone met me at the house to provide and estimate. September 13th, I thought someone was meeting me at the house to start work, but it was apparently only to assess the work (had I known this was a 15 minute meeting, I would not have scheduled the day off from work to meet him.) He said he could send someone October 24 and the benefit of waiting would be that he could have the floors and the plumbing addressed on the same day. Fine. The person to do the floors showed up on October 24, but no one to work on the plumbing. The floorboards were pulled out and new ones installed and stained, but they new floorboards were 1/4 inch taller than the existing floorboards. This person was to return on Friday November 8th. Tomorrow, Monday, December 16th, I am meeting the floor person at the house yet again. His mother died, then he hurt his back... In short, do not expect that you are getting the services of a big company when you hire Moss, you are extremely dependent on the person they assign to your task.

One did quality work but left without finishing everything, the other stuck around but didn't do good work.

We were extremely pleased with Moss Building and Design in all phases (estimate, layout/design, assistance with materials selection, ordering, construction, communication during construction, completion, billing, and follow-up) and highly recommend them. We had never had such a positive experience with a contractor (prior projects in previous house), and we were determined to find a company that would meet our expectations from start to finish. Moss Building and Design surpassed our expectations--both in terms of the final product and customer service along the way! We look forward to hiring them again. We really appreciated the expert consultants that they hired to help with an accessible bathroom layout/design tailored to our particular situation. Moss Building and Design also assigned a person, Kristen, to help us from the beginning in understanding what decisions we needed to make and how the project would progress. She was invaluable in helping us work with an excellent tile store, cabinet company, and bathroom fixture and accessory store and their designers. The Moss Online system was very helpful for communication throughout the project in terms of approving items and change orders (for new things that we wanted), plus tracking the budget. The Moss Building and Design Project Manager, Bob Keene, was equally outstanding and incredibly responsive. We stayed in regular contact with him throughout the project. He was always available, professional, straight forward, and ready to explain what could and could not work based on the home and its structure. When we were worried about a possible water leak after a heavy rain storm, he and his wife came to our home on Mother's Day to make sure that all was well and alleviate our concerns! He worked with us when we requested some additional work to take advantage of the skilled workers on site and make the home move-in ready. He worked well with our separate flooring contractor in terms of coordinating work. In the end, he made sure that we were able to move into our house on time. Most importantly, Moss guarantees their work, and they have returned to resolve any issues. We had several firms bid on our remodel project. Moss Building and Design was not the most expensive nor was it the cheapest. We are very glad that we selected them and look forward to our next project with them.

We hired Moss to work through a list of electrical items that came up on the inspection report for a house we were selling. Brad showed up right on time and addressed all of the issues. He was quick, neat, and organized, and resolved all of the issues ahead of schedule. We definitely will use them again.

We hired Moss Home Services to remove the EIFS siding from the rear of our home and replace it with HardiePlank siding. We also had them remove the existing wooden soffit and replace it with HardieSoffit and remove all existing wooden trim and replace it with Azek trim. The crew showed up when they said they would and removed the EIFS in one day. We had another project running concurrently (replacement of external french doors with an Andersen slider and Andersen french doors) so when that project was done Moss came back and installed the HardiePlank. They did a great job matching the HardiePlank on the addition we had installed last year and the work was done quickly and the results were excellent. Brandon Sarina was the project manager for our project and he did a great job. He took ownership and responsibility for the project and really lightened the load on us. If we had a question or concern he provided a satisfactory answer quickly and professionally. He managed the timing with the other contractor (Andersen) so the whole project went smoothly and we weren't dealing with construction for any longer than necessary. We will definitely use Moss again and will request Brandon as the project manager when we redo the siding on the other side of our home.

It went pretty well. They were prompt and timely. The work met my expectations.

Estimator came quickly but took a while to deliver a final estimate ... Once the estimate was agreed, the schedulers were prompt in setting up appointment convenient to us ... On site resource, Jonathan Tiller (?), was prompt, courteous, and very competent ... each of three days he finished his work and cleaned up ... He was very good about setting up so as to not be disruptive or to allow dust to get beyond his work areas ... He perfectly matched out paint and did his work well enough that you cannot tell, even on close inspection, where he did his repair work ... We will use them again based on this experience ...

Mike did a great job. He was there on time and did a clean and fantastic job with no fuss.. Can't wait t use them again.

The gentlemen from Moss were wonderful. They showed up early, finished early and were very nice, thorough and I am very confident in their work. The prices were also very reasonable :)

Frank cut out a small piece of panel to gain access to the outside faucet to replace it with a new hose bib faucet. ( A new access panel was brought in today.) Frank put on the correct shut-off valve for the outside faucet. He went to the plumbing store to obtain a piece to add to the pipe (male adapter, I think is what you call it) so that he could properly install the new single handle faucet. He added the new shower head as well. Frank grouted and caulked the tile, that had to be replaced. He even put up my new towel bar. This was above and beyond and very much appreciated. My husband and I are very pleased with Frank's work and the manner in which he performed it. He was thorough, neat and very easy to work with. I am happy to say, my issues with this company have been resolved and I would highly recommend them.

We were thrilled with the job Moss did in replacing our portico. John Jenkins was the project manager and he did a great job at coordinating the work of the two carpenters, scheduling the county inspections, and always kept us in the loop about what was going on. When we emailed him a question, he responded very quickly. Dave, the main carpenter, built a beautiful portico that exceeded our expectations. Our previous portico was from the 60's and had a very dated look - Dave brought the front of our house into the 21st century. Two inset ceiling lights were also installed. We would hire Moss again without any hesitation. We feel their quote was fair (we got five quotes - they were not the cheapest but we felt they were the best value), they were professional in their conduct and work, and they cleaned up all the mess and hauled it away. It was a good experience.

this was a great experience!!! Moss building communicated well performed all work above and beyond. I am in the customer service business and I expect only the best and they provided the best. i would use them in a heart beat again and will.

Crew showed up promptly (actually 15 minutes early). Company does general handyman work, and in preliminary contact with they we had advised that the focus of this service would be on residential electrical work, which allowed them to bring the best most appropriate mix of tools and supplies. Since homeowner had gone overboard on 'prep work' and actually completed the original task we had contacted them to perform, the bulk of their time was spent on additional projects -- making branch circuits and wiring ceiling lights in a room where the wires had to cross joists that were not open and accessible. Work was done rapidly and professionally. Crew also wore booties to keep carpets, etc. clean. We were very happy with the attitude and competence of crew and with the work they did, and would be willing/interested in using them for future work.

Fantastic! Showed up on time. Courteous and knowledgeable. Tackled one item after another. Performed the functions of a general contractor, a locksmith, a plumber and an electrician. Definitely a keeper! The Angie's list deal was well worth it.

They were referred to me by neighbors, and they did an excellent job.
