The team at Moss was great to work with. They really worked as a team and communicated amongst themselves. I enjoyed the planning process and working with the designer to plan the layout and chose the finishes. The bathroom turned out really lovely. I have used Moss in the past and always been pleased. The quality of their workmanship is great and gives you a peace of mind knowing it was done right.

We used MOSS several years ago to finish our basement and reached out to them again when we wanted to build a 2-car garage addition. When we first met with the owner, he outlined the entire process from start to finish. He explained what we needed to do prior to MOSS starting any work (which included us securing a special permit from the county). They were able to help us through that complicated, long process and proceedings. From that point on, we had nothing to do with the permitting process (thank goodness)! MOSS was a part of the communication between us, our architect and the county right from the start. Throughout the process, we had open communication with our PM and the owners. We found talking to our PM and/or setting up an appointment was the best method for us to ensure that we were on the same page and to address the changes I made along the way. With any project, there were a few bumps along the way, however, they were handled efficiently and in a timely manner. The MOSS employees on site were polite and considerate and they always cleaned up after a days work. Our timeline was pretty close to the initial estimate we were given. The wait time was outside of MOSS' control (weather and utility company). After the project ended, we (as homeowners) ran into an issue as a result of our special permit. We were given a requirement to fulfill that we later learned was impossible to satisfy, due to existing underground lines. We spoke to the owner of MOSS about this (seemingly impossible) requirement that the county insisted we accomplish. He facilitated communication on our behalf with the county. He was instrumental in helping us navigate a complicated and very frustrating process, with a desired outcome. This requirement was not a building requirement that MOSS was even responsible for, however, he went above and beyond to help us. Our garage looks great and many say that it looks as though it has always been a part of the house, not an addition. I would recommend MOSS if you're looking for an addition or a remodel. I've wanted a garage since we bought the house and I could not be any happier with the outcome!

We are very satisfied with the kitchen renovation MOSS did for us. After several smaller handyman-type projects Moss completed to our satisfaction, we were finally ready to remodel our kitchen. The sales person, project manager and designer took our concerns and ideas and turned them into a plan that was in our budget and turned out beautifully. One of my biggest issues was the fact that a huge bulkhead ran through the center of our kitchen. My wife and I were talking about how to camouflage it, but MOSS came up with the solution of re-routing the HVAC system so the bulkhead and soffits could actually be removed. The visual space this created is incredible. Moss also suggested incorporating some dead kitchen space into the adjacent garage entranceway which resulted in a mud room we never knew we had room for. These creative solutions had a huge impact to our home but not to our budget. Without adding any square footage to our house, we now have a kitchen that feels so much bigger and comfortably accommodates our family and friends.

We worked with Moss Building & Design to have a basement shower replaced. The team did an excellent job. Moss installed a wedi shell with tile overlaid on the walls and on the floor, with a marble ledge. They also changed the plumbing fixtures and did plumbing work to accomodate the new fixtures. The Moss team was very helpful during the planning phase and assisted us with comparing a variety of tile, marble, and fixtures as well as confirming grout and metal accents. The team that did the teardown and installation was highly communicative, was easy to work with, and was careful to avoid damage or dirtying to the rest of our home. The finished product looks and works great.

We hired MOSS last year to completely renovate our kitchen and children's bathroom after interviewing a number of contractors. The cost of the project was high, but they were not the most expensive or the cheapest. We had done a prior renovation project and decided to go with MOSS after talking with a number of friends who had used them and had been happy with their results. The design phase of the project took a bit longer than we had expected, but we appreciate that our designer, Megan, obsessed over every detail of the kitchen and bath so that every element of the cabinetry, hardware and appliances would fit seamlessly. She was never pushy but offered up her years of experience in helping us with the many choices that were made, from floor stain to paint color. There were a few hiccups during the project but MOSS always made sure that the final product was of high quality and that we were satisfied. We are especially thankful that we had Bob Keene as our project manager. Bob is probably the most honest person I have ever met in the construction business. There were alot of moving parts because of the scope of the project but Bob would check in on us and worked very hard to keep the project on schedule. He took all of our complaints or requests very seriously and was available to address our concerns at any time of the day. We now have an amazing kitchen and bathroom that our whole family enjoys. I would use MOSS again for our future renovation projects because we know that they are honest and stand behind their work.

We are absolutely thrilled with the way our bathroom turned out. We love all the materials and colors, and are so thankful for the designers who helped us through the process. Moss took care of everything for us and made the whole project as smooth as possible.

This is our third home remodel project with Moss Building and Design, and we are happy to recommend MOSS to anyone wanting a state-of-the-art renovation with skillful teams at all levels of the process. We are thrilled to have our kitchen completed and wish to express our thanks at the quality of workmanship that took place at each step in the process…. the final product not only met expectations but exceeded them. We spent many hours for several years dreaming of the design and making drawings. The final kitchen is almost exact to our specifications and it is perfect.

Our 30 year old kitchen was in need of updates. In addition, we wanted to change some minor things with regards to layout and how the adjoining space was used. We had Bob step in as our project manager last year when we had Moss finish our basement and we were so pleased with his work and work ethic that we knew we wanted him to facilitate our kitchen reno as well. It was extremely helpful to be able to use their 3D design tools in the layout phase of our renovation. We were able to "see" the final product before any work was actually done which made it possible to view our options and feel confident about our choices. We can't say enough good things about Bob Keene as a project manager. Sales people are one thing, but Bob never hesitated to keep us informed throughout the entire process whether the news was good or bad. We realized there are somethings you won't know until the walls come down, and Bob was always forthright about what we could expect and the time it would take. His experience meant that he put guys on the jobsite he could accurately predict how long things would take and he was always spot on! John and Dean were our main work crew and they were prompt, clean and meticulous with their work. Whether it was demo, matching up new to existing hardwood flooring, installing cabinets & appliances, doing extensive trim work, building shelves, the list goes on and on. These guys were no only amazing at their level of care, but they were such a pleasure to work with!! This wasn't an inexpensive undertaking, but we felt like the money spent was well worth it to ensure it was done correctly and have Bob and his team run interference for us whenever something came up that needed to be addressed. We are extremely pleased with the investment we made and wouldn't hesitate to use Moss again.

This was the WORST experience with a contractor we have had. If you are considering using Moss, please take your money and run. We hired them to build a storage room/shed with air conditioning and remodel the laundry room. The job was supposed to take about six weeks but actually lasted about 7 months. First, the contractor kept complaining that the job was too hard and he did not know how to do it. After ‘completion’, the storage room started leaking and then within weeks fell apart. The contractor on site admitted he didn’t know how to fix it. The contractor, his assistant and the project manager kept fighting, excuses for delay and crappy work included everything from their personal issues to management dysfunction at Moss. The project manager quit in the middle of the process and his replacement was unresponsive. Moss sent other workers to fix the job, which also did not work. Eventually, they basically took the shed apart and built a new one. They had to come back several times to fix major leaks. What was supposed to take months actually took several YEARS. The cooling system still does not work as promised and overall, it generally has so many flaws but I eventually just gave up since dealing with this company was so emotionally draining. Bottom line - unresponsive, not trained to do the work, major delays, internal management issues, the final product was D grade at best, and definitely not worth the tens of thousands of $ we spent. Would not recommend.

Moss construction picked up the pieces of our project with professionalism, speed, and attention to detail. Our project manager, Rik Madden, has been a true hero - kind, punctual, thorough, a really good listener, and incredibly knowledgeable. He follows through every time. The company also sends out an electronic update every week stating what was accomplished in the past week, as well as what we can expect this week and next. Love it!! We are very pleased we selected Moss construction to complete our building project.

Not only that they are refunding less amount than they should, but even that little amount is being kept, hostage, unless we sign their self-serving contract. They want us to sign a contract, which even involves taking back the BBB complaint that we have filed. Unless we take back the complaint, they will not give our money back. I have an email of them saying this to me. This is exactly how this company has kept a BBB A+ rating. I have that complete contract, which prohibits us from filing complaints and writing the truth in the reviews. There has to be more like us, as we were told this is their standard contract. If you are been threatened like this, I request you to keep your ground and don't take your complaint with BBB back. Moss completes work LATE. If time is not an issue, maybe they will do a good job. But, if you don't have all the time in the world, you are in trouble. Not returning money unless you take a BBB complaint back and signing a contract that scares you in not writing a review is just unethical if not illegal.

We popped the roof on our cape cod style home and added three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and renovated the kitchen. We interviewed about 6 contractors for the job and cost wise Moss landed somewhere in the middle. We were impressed by their honesty in where our money should be spent and their ability to negotiated with us to ensure we were able to achieve our dream home within our budget. Not to say that things don't go wrong during a renovation. If you're planning on a project and expect it always to run smoothly, you're kidding yourself. This project ran as smooth as the best of them! Moss's ability to resolve issues quickly and tackle things confirmed we made the correct choice in having them work on our project. The design team was wonderful to work with! Chris, our architect managed to get everything we wanted into our square footage. Molly our AMAZING interior designer is so much fun to work with and comes up with wonderful designs and solutions. The design is exactly our taste and we love it! The project team is also wonderful! John, our project manager pushed things along throughout the entire project, and got it done in record time - ahead of schedule and on budget. He is absolutely FANTASTIC to work with and is patient, kind and respected by his team. He can always find a solution to anything and everything that comes up! Dave, our program manager... also awesome. Always there when we needed him! Lio and Rob the handymen extraordinaire... I don't even think handymen is the right way to describe them. They truly are able to tackle anything with high quality finishes and attention to details. This team all be came part of our family during the process and we miss them already! Moss, if you're reading this, they all deserve BIG FAT RAISES AND BONUSES!!!

Moss is by far the lowest cost building contractor for large scale projects. Our remodeling project was well over $400,000 and they came in with the lowest bid. However, because of this they overbook and leave themselves very thin. At times, they will leave your home for weeks at a time without any work. Every single change that is not explicitly written in the contract will be a change request. I suggest your double and triple check your contract before signing. They also prompted me to sign my contract only to delay starting the project for over 3 months. Some of their work was also subpar. After installing the a HVAC unit, the drainage pipe was installed with the wrong slope, causing water to leak from my ceiling. After three years, the unwritten length of their warranty, a crack has appeared in my foundation, and is not something they will even acknowledge. Most of their work is subcontracted out, making them a glorified general contractor. In the end, I guess you get what you pay for.

My experiences with Moss started on a bad note. It seemed the salesman did everything he could to make us walk away. Thankfully, the Project Manager, Bob Keene, stepped up and convinced us that things would go smoothly once we were in his hands. And did it ever! Along the way, we came across many issues that were not named in the contract. Bob was wonderful about discussing options and suggesting compromises, making sure we were happy at the end of the project. Moss has done work for my friends and we are all happy with the work. I would only suggest that you take diligent notes during the sales/design phase and make sure the Project Manager is kept up-to-date on your needs, wants, and changes along the way. I would use Moss again but only if Bob Keene is my Project Manager. He is a stand up guy and truly has the customer's best interest in mind.

We don't take home repairs lightly and chose Moss because of our previous quality interactions. We were severely disappointment about the customer service we received when after two years of repeated phone calls and emails, the situation wasn't resolved. In the summer of 2017 we decided to have our crumbling, old porch repaired and got a few bids. We decided to go with MOSS, a decision we would come to regret. Initially, we were happy with the results. MOSS repainted and sealed our railings, and more importantly, the concrete coating they put over our steps looked great. Sadly, our satisfaction would barely make the six month mark. That was around the point where I first noticed the cracks forming in the work that had just been done the previous summer. Fast forward six months, to where I finally decided to send a letter to two of the company's founders and officers listed on their web site. To quickly sum up, the letter detailed the eleven interactions I'd had with various MOSS contacts over the past six months, including the one where one of their engineers told me that the problem was structural and that he'd told the original Project Manager who'd drafted our proposal about this. At the end, I stated that we wanted this done right, would have happily paid the extra to have the porch repaired correctly, and asked to have that done with what we'd already paid applied to the balance. I also asked, that given the communication issues we'd had that any further correspondence be in writing or e-mail. So of course, a week or two later I got a voice message from MOSS. I was told that this sort of cracking was perfectly normal in the first year and that they would seal it for us. Not being an engineer, I took MOSS's word for it and agreed to have this done. The cracks were sealed, and all was fine again. Fast forward a few more months, and the porch started cracking again. Another engineer came out and reiterated that the steps' problem was structural, and that sealing it over would accomplish nothing. I relayed this to MOSS (and again asked that we have the porch done properly), and was again assured that this was normal and that sealing it would handle everything. They also pointed out that most other contractors only warranty their work to one year and they would seal it again. They did, and around another half year later we repeated this again, and once again we were offered to have the steps re-sealed. Even the contractor who came out to do the work told me this wouldn't save our problem, but being resigned to the fact that this was the most I'd get from MOSS, I had him do the work anyway. On each of these repairs, they never bothered to give us a date/time for when they would arrive - thankfully the dog wasn't in the yard at the time. Now we're at the two year mark. The steps now have cracks that are well on their way to matching the cracks we had before we set out to have them fixed. There's a roughly two inch square on a zero traffic area of our bottom step that's simply chipped away. The one thing I'll say to MOSS' credit is that the railings looked great from day one and still do. Aside from that, we basically paid a good chunk of change for the functionality of a coat of paint on our porch. I'm not saying not to do business with MOSS, but if you do be sure to retain an engineer and an attorney. You'll need both.

I hired Moss to help update our powder room. I had purchased a new vanity, new lighting and new hardware and Moss came and put it all together. The team was super easy to work with, hard working and super professional. I will definitely hire them again.

Anytime you renovate a 50 year old house you are likely to run into issues when the walls, ceiling and floors are opened. Thankfully our Project Manager, Bob Keene, worked with us every step of the way through the renovation. Bob helped us to understand the renovation process so that we were prepared for the disruptions that can occur whiling living in a construction zone. Any surprises that were found behind the walls were addressed and remedied quickly. Bob’s goal of always having a satisfied customer, was a major factor in keeping our stress levels low and bringing our project to a successful conclusion. At the end of the project, the bathrooms are truly beautiful which speaks volumes to the fantastic design and finish selections made by Kristen Corbett and the professional work that Bob and his team provided us.

We have worked with Moss Building & Design (specifically Janice) for the last several years now. They have been generous and consistent supporters of the Bishop Ireton Golf Classic, an annual fundraising event for Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, VA. Proceeds benefit various initiatives at the school to help improve the educational experience at the school. It is great to see their dedication to giving back to the community!

Everything went very well last Tuesday. The handyman, Jeff Hammond, was a real pro and was able to accomplish all of our items with great excellence. We would definitely hire him again for our handyman items.

It went great. Jeff was friendly and knowledgable. He scheduled the task on our list to allow him to have time to complete everything! It was money well spent and our home looks so much nicer thanks to Jeff's talents and hard work.
