They had to come back and fix a couple things after it was finished. It does look good now. When we called them it was February of last year. Since it was slow they gave us a discount. That is why we got a good price. They called me back every time I called, but I don't know if I would use them again.
Description of Work: They did several things. Our yard is not level and they leveled part of it so we could put in a swing set. With the leveling of the yard we also had a retaining wall put in. We had a drainage problem and they came back to put in a drain. We had their planting department come and move some bushes and they also put up a fence for us.

I called another place and they gave me a price. It was not what I wanted and way out of my price range. The man came out. The only thing I vie been happy about is the subcontractor that they used put in a nice walkway. The guy that claims to be a designer wasn t much of one. The walk was nice. I paid too much money and for that kind of money I would have liked to have so meting better.
Description of Work: I called different people and they were the only ones that got back with me. I needed to have a front walk put in because my mother was living with us at the time. She was in a wheelchair and I needed a wider way to get to the driveway. I called Meadows farms and made an appointment. They didn t get back to me right away.

Dave McCann came out, listened to what we wanted done, made some suggestions and came back with a very thorough plan and estimate of the work to be done and the cost. We chose to go with another contractor largely because of the cost on the masonry work.

Designer dealt patiently and skillfully with conflicting opinions/ideas between my spouse and me and was successful at first visit in presenting plan for walkway plus landscaping for same price as other estimate for walkway alone. Crew showed up on time and worked very efficiently to complete the job in several hours. There was initially no plan to deal with 4-inch drainage pipe 2 to 6 inches beneath lawn surface and in the way of part of the rock path. Foreman's initial solution was to compress plastic pipe by stomping on it and laying the 3-inch thick stepping stones on top of it. When I objected, he proposed excellent modification of extending new pipe off to side of path down the mild slope and installing a "bubbler" to allow water to escape when rain water flowed through it. The needed parts were purchased within an hour. I signed a small modification to contract. The crew dug a 12-foot long trench for the new pipe and covered it with the existing sod--beautifully done. I was expecting stone dust to be placed beneath the stepping stones (layed in grass, level with lawn). I was told this was not needed, but I believe this was a shortcut. Time will tell. The bottom line is that it looks great and we are extremely pleased.
Description of Work: Rock path walkway laid in lawn, to connect driveway with paver patio in rear of home. Landscaped side of home/garage.

They have a landscaper who comes out and guides you throgh the process ahead of time. She really knew what she was doing and told us what would look great. She really focused on what would match well together with what was already existent in our yard.

Alan was extremely professional and helpful. The installation crew was a whole different story. On the day that we scheduled the actual landscape installation, the crew was late and the head of the crew spoke to me with a cigarette dangling from his mouth. I thought they were going to be doing more soil amending than they did. I also thought that some the plants placed near our house ended up too close to the actual structure. And when the mulched they piled mulch on top of some of our walkway lights. It just wasn't a very precise job.
Description of Work: I worked with a landscape designer, Alan Meadows. He measured our garden beds and designed a plan on paper. We reviewed the plan and he came back another day with his computer because I had questions about other plants and with his computer program he was able to show me samples of various plants.

Dave came out to meet with us to discuss the project. He had some great ideas and worked up an estimate in a timely manner. The estimate was much higher than comparable estimates, but he worked with us to try to get it more in line with our budget. We are confident Meadow Farms would have done an excellent job, but the cost was too high so we decided to go with a different company.

Meadows Farms carried out the landscaping and hardscaping well. They arrived on the agreed upon date and worked quickly to complete the job. The hardscaping was done first and the project went well. There were some problems when the job was complete (the polymeric sand that was used between the stones and pavers was seeping away in places, two of the pavers broke, and parts of the garden wall were rickety), but as soon as I contacted the company, they sent a crew out to assess and fix the problems. The landscaping work went well, too, although here again there were some problems that they had to correct. The plantings blocked a gate from closing, one of our existing plants that they moved was put in the wrong place, some of the ground cover had to be moved because they blocked our shed door from opening. The crew addressed these problems promptly and professionally. In the end, the job was well done and our yard looks fabulous.
Description of Work: Meadows Farms designed a landscaping and hardscaping plan for our backyard. They implemented the plan, building a paver patio, fire pit, stone walkways and a low stone garden wall as well as planting several dozen shrubs and perennials.

Landscape designer Hugh Perry is superb (open, patient, passionate about his work) and gave us a number of excellent suggestions on improving our backyard, beyond the patio. We relied almost exclusively on the design for our new patio and contracted Meadows Farms to carry out the demolition of the existing deck and installation of the slate and stone wall. The work went smoothly until we hit a snag that required a two-week delay (no fault of Meadow's Farms). After that, the final work was completed on-time and to our satisfaction.

The way they planted the trees was wrong and it has caused us to have to replace some trees already. We had two things replaced already and we have two more that are going to have to be replaced. Their design was very good but they need to teach the guys who come out and plant, how to do it correctly. They do have the life time warranty on what they planted.

Landscape design was uninspired. Installation went well in terms of timing, but some plants were not seated well in their holes and/or were too root-bound from the pot to grow well and wound up dying repeatedly, despite replacements. One shrub bloomed in white instead of the dark purple that had been requested.

I was not happy with the designer. I was happy with the workers though. They showed up when they said they would. Overall I'm not happy with the whole process. Plants that were promised were not delivered until the following year because somehow they lost the paperwork. I would not use them again in the future.

Horrible!!! The first design person was simply put "Obnoxious". Spoke down to me like I was an idiot. I called Meadow Farms to complain and told them they lost the business. Then they sent out another design person that was very pleasant. She drew up her plans and made her recommendations on what type of bushes and trees to put in. BUT when the date came to actually do the work, ran into a major problems. First, the day was really rainy which I felt should have warranted rescheduling. But they did not want to. Then the two "supervisors" basically watched and directed three workers for the day. The designer showed up only briefly and I had to intervene to try and ensure that the landscape design was somewhat close to the drawing. The quality of the bushes were completely pathetic. They were nearly dead. They didn't bring out enough mulch or sod either. I had to demand that they comeback to fill in the gaps. They ended replacing a few of the bushes.
Description of Work: Hired to redesign landscaping in front and backyard. The job included adding new bushes and trees. The quality of the work, products weren't even close to the value that was charged. I would never use Meadow Farms again.

Meadows caused a lot of hassle. From the beginning they did not show up on time. The architect did not do a good job with the sketch and the real thing was really erratic looking. They did not completely sod and they took forever to finally come back out in sod again. I was told that they were going to roll the sod but when it was time to roll it, they didn t bring the rollers. They charged me about $200 a plant and when they were done I found out I could've got the same plants for about $20 a piece at another place. I had to take off work to supervise the workers, when they should have had their own supervisor. At the moment I am looking to hire someone else to fix the problem.
Description of Work: Meadows planted a few dozen bushes, mulched, sodded the walkway, dug out brick under the porch and replaced it with plastic river rock. They also added a slate walkway which was about 50 feet long and sodded around it.

Ok, the employee showed up 30 minutes early and I'd just gotten home. He listened to my ideas, measured the area and did a rough sketch of the ideas he had. I didn't know what some of the plants were that he wanted to use, so he brought in photos of previous jobs to show me when I requested that he do so. My husband came home somewhat in the middle of all of this, got the overview, and we agreed to discuss and get back with the landscaper. He seemed disappointed that we didn't commit on the spot, and charged us a $25 fee, which we had to request be refunded several times. (The company advertises a free consult to Angie's List members.) All in all, I was disappointed with what I would have gotten for my money and also disappointed that the landscaper didn't seem to take into account how his idea may blend with the rest of the yard. It would have been ok, but it was a lot of money for just ok.

I was very disappointed in this company. The only thing that I like is that they were very professional. They did arrive on time and they were easy to schedule. Their work just didn't last. They did hardscaping in my yard in the winter. By spring, the weeds had come up through everything. I paid for them to prevent weeds coming up and it didn't happen. I don't feel that I got what I paid for. I even sent them a letter and I haven't heard back from them.

The landscape designer was very easy to work with. He spent quite a bit of time walking the yard with me asking questions to get a good idea what I wanted expected. He had pictures on his laptop of every plant he suggested so I had a good idea what the finished product would look like. The job was completed in one day by one supervisor and three laborers. The designer thought the existing clay-based soil could be improved by tilling in dirt, but the crew didn't bring a machine capable of accomplishing that part of the job so they laid the new dirt on top of the existing soil/clay. One tree appears to be dying, but the nursery offers a lifetime guarantee on plants so they're coming back to replace that tree with a new one.
Description of Work: Meadows Farms' landscape designer came to my house to create a personalized landscaping plan that can be implemented in stages. Stage 1 involved removing some grass in the front yard to enlarge an existing bed, adding some dirt, transplanting one tree, installing new plants, and putting down mulch. They also added some straight beds without plants along two sides of the house.

People plant trees to improve the landscape, not make it worse with ugly, bare, embarrassing trees. I shouldn't have to wait months for resolution or spend years nursing these trees back to health. They should arrive full and healthy from the nursery. Dave should have said "you're right, we should not have planted trees in that condition and we will replace them." Instead, he believes that any tree that has even a single living needle on it is "alive" and should be acceptable. Instead of replacing the trees, they delay and fight with their customers and turn a minor issue into a battle. None of this would have happened if they had controls in place to ensure product quality before installation. They say they stand behind their product, but the warranty only covers trees that die. Look at the attached photos of the same type of trees planted as part of the same job by Meadows Farms. See the quality difference? Would you pay $500 for such poor quality? I will not.
Description of Work: I purchased 9 large trees from a landscape designer. 6 Leyland Cypress were installed thin/dry/brown with bare branches. I complained numerous times by phone to the designer and customer service. The first response was a voice mail saying the trees were "alive" and no action would be taken. I called several more times, disputed the charge on my credit card, filed a complaint with the BBB, and demanded another inspection while I was present. The customer service manager was helpful and offered a temporary solution. Then Dave Reed, VP of Landscaping got involved and made the situation worse by confusing separate issues and writing a rude letter to the BBB. He apparently believes this problem is about trees with "some yellow needles on the bottom" and can't comprehend that quality from his "state of the industry" facility isn't quality just because he says so. The test of quality is in the delivered product. Thin, ugly, brown, bare trees are not quality and are not worth $500 each.

First they planted wrong (smaller) size shrubs(3). They also ran short of the sods. I had to paid more because the designer miscalculated. I also did not like the bouder they placed. They took it back, but they not cover those bare spots. I call to complaint to that and also to suggest that once the customer return home the job supervisor should introduce them self and give a status report to the customer. Rather then having the customer walk all over in search of the supervisor. I did not receive any feedback from them. A couple of months later we had a terrible rain storm. We notice that the drain pipe that they install was not properly slope outwards. Rain water was actually backing out of the pipe into my stairwell. I call but the designer never return my call. I decided I cannot wait and I fix the elevation at that corner. The biggest complaint is the sods they planted. I was given a instruction of water the sods once a week, which I did. Couple of areas died.
Description of Work: Ten years ago this company design and install our landscape for our previous house. They did a good job and that's why we decided to go with them again with our current house. We had their designer plan our landscape which included planting of trees and shrubs. Placing sod to bare ground and install a flex drainage pipe for a down spout with a pop up cover.
