Fee for 1-2 hour consultation is $49 for Angie's List members. Contract installation costs determined by the job. Family owned. We offer a limited Lifetime Warranty on installed trees and shrubs/ 5 year warranty on many hardscape items.
The estimate experience was excellent. They had been unable to do the estimate at the appointed time because of weather, but someone contacted us quickly to reschedule and showed up on time to give us the estimate. She said we needed significantly more mulch than we have used in the past, but she seemed knowledgable, and her price was in the ballpark, so we figured it would be fine. We were wrong. The actually work was totally unacceptable. The workers were to arrive first thing in the morning. Instead they arrived around 10:45 a.m. There were 3 laborers. The woman who gave us the estimate did not come with them to tell them which beds we wanted mulched and which areas were not to be done, so the laborers had to ask us repeatedly what they were supposed to do. We were confused by being put in charge of the workers. We did not think we had hired 3 day laborors, but the actual company to see that the work was done. Around around 3 or 4 o'clock, the apparently leader of the laborers informed us that he had to drive from our home in Vienna to their facility on Route 7 to get the rest of the mulch as the truck does not hold enough for our job. We had not been informed that this would happen. He left the other 2 workers here and was gone for over an hour getting the rest of the mulch. This meant that it was quite late and almost dark when the job was completed. They worked in the front of our house the last hour. I watched them throw mulch at our beds without leaning over. The quality of the work is totally unacceptable. First of all, large portions of the yard that were to be mulched have no mulch at all. Other sections have about 6 inches. Mulch was thrown on top of plants instead of around their bases, almost killing them. No supervisor ever came by to inspect the job, and no one called to see if we were satisfied. After a week, my husband called to offer an account of his disappointment. They are sorry, they said. Since the mulch was not bagged, we have no idea if we got the full amount for which we were charged, and now that I have found the areas that were not mulched, I seriously doubt we received what we paid for. The quality of the work certainly does not justify large, well-known garden shop prices. We are not dissatisfied. We are VERY VERY unhappy with the quality of the work. We urge you not to use this company to do your mulching. As for me, I will return my business to the local boy scout troop that never let us down.
Description of Work: Spring Cleaning: Meadows Farms agreed to mulch all the beds in our yard with 3" of mulch as well as blowing out the weeds and edging the beds.

We spent approximately $12K on landscaping and product in preparation for a household wedding and an eventual sale so we were willing to get the best. I am sure we could have found cheaper and in hindsight better. The designer we worked with did a great job (Hugh) though slow in responding and slow to start the work - we did recognize that this was the beginning of the season and were willing to wait based on wanting to get it done right. We kept reminding ourselves that we were paying for what we thought was the best. They sent outa crew the job in one day but we were assured it would be completed even though the estimator thought t would easily take two. The crew consisted of 5 to include the foreman, 2 what seemed to be permanent employees and two temporary laborers. It was hard to communicate with the foreman as he did not speak very good English. Everything seemed to be going well as I was watching but I was skeptical of the planting techniques as they were not following the guidelines we all get when buy individual plants from the very same nursery. (e.g. size of the whole, soil quality, burlap wrapping, etc) When I asked the foreman about the difference he indicated that I should not worry that they do this all of the time. Though skeptical, I reassured myself that they guaranteed their work which included the planting and the plants themselves - besides they do this all of the time!. Over the next four weeks I strictly held to their watering and care instructions they left with us. Some of the plants seem to be doing well but many (@40%) seem to be dying a slow death. For example, there is still now new growth and many leaves are falling off those that seem to be dying as compared to the healthy and identical plants located in other parts of the yard. I am not positive but I think some of the burlap and rope was left on these that are dying and when I looked further I noticed that there are substantial air pockets in those that are dying as well. It was obvious that some the planters were taking off the burlap and some were not. Everyone I know has an opinion on the correct way to plant but in the end all I care is that they live and look good. I finally called on Saturday (the 4th) with the only option of being able to leave a message (BTW _ business must be real good for a landscaping company not to be open on a Saturday) with their customer service. They returned my call on Monday the 6th and indicated that I could either send them pictures and they would make a determination then or failing that I could wait 8 to 12 business days for their plant inspector to come out because this was their busy season.. No appointment was offered nor could they narrow the timeframe down. I attempted to discuss my suspicions/concerns with the lady who quickly dismissed me saying that 'she was sure the planting was done correctly'. The issues I wanted to discuss were not of interest to her. My impression was that all she wanted was to get off the phone without addressing my concerns. My issues: 1. the planting technique mentioned earlier, 2. the depth of the top soil they hauled in (as designed and estimated), 3. the depth of the mulch they spread (or did not spread - less than 1 inch in some areas), 4. planting bed is non-existent, 5. the build-up next the house is non-existent and 6. the extra pallet and half of sod which I was going to have to pay for even if I used it or not. How do you address all of this with a picture and no one to talk to regarding my issues? This was the customer service department - expected better! I am hoping that when I finally get an inspector out here he will do something.... I am not hopeful or optimistic. Needless to say we will not be ready for the wedding.
Description of Work: We spent approx. $12K on landscaping and product to design and upgrade the front of our house. We used Meadow Farms in Chantilly, Virginia to do all of the work. They have many offices/nurseries throughout Virginia but this seemed to be the headquarters for their landscaping business. The work consisted of landscaping to include sodding, extra top soil, mulch (30 yards) and over 40 large plants - bought and planted. It also included some transplanting. There was no hardscape included. The initial estimate was that this would take a good two-days to complete. As part of the estimate they were supposed to fill in some areas to allow for a planting bed and build up the ground next to the house to address some potential drainage issues. We had a designer come out (Hugh) who did a good for us. The installer crew looked professional and on the surface did a reasonable job. They arrived about 1000 am and left about 7 pm.

I talked to one of their designers and met me at my house. I went to two of their locations. He was very punctual. I asked a friend to come with me at Meadows Farm Nurseries. She asks me what plant I like then I would point at something. She says that that I can have it and that's how I pick what's in my yard. I called them again to look at my yard because it looks like my plants are going to die. They would either replace the plant or refund the money. Their price was reasonable and the staff was very knowledgeable.
Description of Work: I went to Meadows Farm Nurseries to buy plants. I know I have some daisies, pansies, a whole bunch of hostas, and a comatus. I have other plants but I don't know what they are called.
The work is ongoing due to the unexpected snow. Will report more once complete. Be sure to ask for Hugh Perry, if you want a beautiful design. Hugh is in the Chantilly Office.
Description of Work: My back yard has a hill that slopes toward the house, Hugh designs was to have an arch cut into the hill with a stone wall and walk way with stairs going up the hill. Then a new Trex deck with stone around the base and a railing of concrete balustrades around the deck . The wall is complete and the deck is underway. Work is in progress but looks great. Hugh Perry did a wonderful design and Garret is overseeing the work. All workmen clean up at the end of each day. To this point I could not be happier. Be sure to ask for Hugh Perry whenever you want a great plan large or small, he has great ideas. I spoke with several different companies but decided on Meadow Farms because of Hugh.

They let me pay in monthly installments and no interest. They put down mulch. They pruned the bushes. I like that they are punctual and they come when they say they are doing to come. The only problem I've ever had was there was some azalea bushes out front. Some of these guys don't speak English but they always send a foreman that does. When i called the office I specifically said, "don't prune the azaleas" but they did. But the guy did come out and look at them and he said, we will give you a refund or we will get you some new azaleas. I didn't want to get new ones because you take the chance that they won't survive so I just took the rebate. They took care of the problem. They come several times through out the spring summer and fall. They call and let me know when they are going to come out. They don't have to because everything they do is outside but they do.
Description of Work: I last used Meadows Farms Nurseries 2 weeks to do the annual mulching and pruning and treating the trees. I've used them for the last 4 or 5 years.

We contracted with their lawn care service for this entire year, and this is the first time we've used a lawn care service. We just fired them today. Why? They have literally damaged our porch post and gutter 4 times. Their crews are reckless and sloppy --always missing a swath or two of grass and incomplete trimming. They also have been unreliable as to the day they show up. If you cancel a cut, their IT system completely takes your name out from that day forward, requiring you to call to schedule a cut and get you back into the cue again. For the largest nursery, landscaping and lawn care company in the area, their incompetence is unparalleled -- I hope. We will try a smaller personal lawn care service next season.

We could not be happier and what a difference to our house this has made. The designer, Jim Ross, was superb in every respect. He listened to what we were thinking about, offered solid suggestions, stayed completely involved through it all and we feel became an "owner" in our project. The work on the front porch is superb...just what we had hoped for. Additionally the rest of the hardscape work was of the same standard and, again, we couldn't be happier. The team was excellent in showing up as promised and stayed on the efforts until complete...very, very professional. And the same for the landscaping team who followed the hardscape team...professional, hard working in every respect. We will use Meadows Farm to maintain our yard in the future...and highly recommend them to everyone. I might add, the "admin team" that works the schedules was spot on as well...great to work with and very helpful.
Description of Work: They (Jim Ross-the designer) designed a complete redesign of our front porch and both our front and back yards then completed the designed superbly. It involved putting hard stone on the porch, putting in a new set of steps, then redoing completely the front and back yards, removing/moving plants, adding plants, putting in waterfalls in the front and back yards along with small fountains on the side yard and putting in stone areas in the front (along with a fire place and wall) and back yards. Very complex and required multiple visits to complete.

Description of Work: Requested a landscaping consultation via Meadows Farms web site. Several weeks later, I was contacted by John Sargent, who arranged to come to my home for a consultation. Several hours later, he called to say he'd left his appointment book at home and was unable to contact me (and turned off his cell and forgot how to check messages, apparently).

This company did a beautiful job on our backyard. We had them remove ivy, level a hill in our backyard by doing a cut and fill, and adding two stone walls. We love the results. The landscape designer, Nathan, was excellent. He had some great ideas and was very creative in the design when we realized our original plan would be out of our budget. The work was performed in the timeframe promised and we have no complaints. We only wish we could have afforded more of our designer's planting recs, as opposed to just the hardscaping. Perhaps next year... We would definitely use this company again for a big project.

Last year we contacted Meadow Farms to do a landscape Patio design. Glen came out and did a very nice design and we were very happy with his creativity. A few weeks after we submitted this Patio design to our HOA, we received our approval to begin the work. By that time to our disappointment Glen advised that the pavers were not on sale anymore and that he'd get back to us with something comparable in color and price. He did not contact us anymore after that conversation and we let our desire to have a Patio last year fade into the Fall. This year we called Meadow Farms again and Glen came back out with his original design in hand. We went over the design in detail. After over an hour going over all the details he said that he'd get back to us in a few days with our quote. He has all of our contact information to include our phone numbers, email address, home address. We looked out for any email, regular mail and or phone calls for several weeks and we received nothing! At this time we are totally baffled as to why he'd come out 2X, spend his valuable time and ours working out and elaborate design plan and not follow though. Very disappointed.
Description of Work: Landscape Patio Design. Last year we had a very nice landscape design performed. This year we had the same guy back to verify the plans and to ensure we're all on the same page with the original design plan and made some adjustments. We spent well over an hour going over the details of the plan again this year.

My daughter contacted them and the landscaper came out. He went over what we were looking to have done. He drew up a plan. He suggested us to what he would want to replace with what we had. He drew up the plan and sent them to us with the estimate. We set up the date for the installation to be done. They came out and did a very efficient, neat, and tidy job. We were very pleased with the work. The price was reasonable. They did a nice job.

Work estimate was provided promptly and professionally.
Description of Work: I asked for some ideas and estimates from Meadows Farm head landscape designer in Chantilly, Va. He was a very pleasant young man who responded promptly, listened to what I wanted, gave me some good ideas and provided a first estimate right on the spot (had his computer and printer). I changed parameters once and he again responded quickly. Unfortunately, I was not able to follow through with the work. If I resurrect the project in the spring, Meadows Farm/Chantilly will be my first choice. Based on the professionalism of this young man, I feel Meadows Farm/Chantilly would have completed the job very well.

Headline: ALWAYS READ THE (LENGTHY) CONTRACT. We began by working with a landscpe designer at the Falls Church location, who seemed mostly responsive and generally professional. Twice we found costly errors in her price estimate - but they seemed to be genuine mistakes (for example, typing in 16 of a certain plant instead of 6, and forgetting to delete plants we had already agreed to cut out in favor of another suggested choice). Once we passed the design/contract signing phase we hit the first snag. Despite being told that they could have the work done within 3 weeks, there were sudden delays (plants out of stock for weeks). If it had been due to the weather it would be one thing, but it wasn't. So we ended up getting the work done several weeks later (and much closer to the end of the year) than desired/expected. But the initial work looked good and we were "ok" with everything at that point. But then, over the winter, 14 of the SUPPOSEDLY EVERGREEN plants that outlined our front walkway died - they looked liked brown or leafless dried out skeletons of plants - way dead!. We called to notify Meadows of this problem and they argued that we should give the plants at least two more months of time to see if they bounced back in May. Meanwhile, we had already lived with these eyesores for about 4 months. So after complaining (again) they agreed to honor the "Guarantee" and replaced the plants, which they did a few weeks later Now, roughly 5 months later, 8 of the medium size plants they repalced have died COMPLETELY again. Despite watering regularly. It seems the plants we were told ARE full sun tolerant aren't really. So now we are looking for something that will survive a typical front yard in Falls Church VA. HOWEVER, despite being told that any plants that die within the first year will be replaced with labor - they now are pointing to the fine print in the contract and saring that because they've replaced these plants once already they now only give us a credit for the cost of the plants. BUT this is still less than a year! Go figure, the landscape designer left out this little loophole and same on us for not reading every line of the legal contract. Now we just want them to at least help recommend a better alternative - but they ignored our calls and email. They merely left the credi invoice and want to be done with us. Nice, after spending $6K+ and being VERY patient. Also our $400 crape myrtle tree never even bloomed this year. So much for that nice gift for my wife. Overall, a sour experience and I will never use Meadows Farms again - because they don't really believe is customer care. Too bad too because I have a huge backyard that I was intending to use their services to landscape. Buyer beware.

We were happy with the work they did for us. They have a lot of different locations and we met with the landscaper at the Germantown location where they have a smaller nursery. They did the planning and installation, and they did a wonderful job. We priced it with other people and we were pleased all around. We’ve gotten a lot of compliments on our yard since the job was finished. They brought over quality plants and trees.
