Meadows Farms Landscaping

(Update) Worked with their designer for a backyard solution to control soil erosion under a yard-adjoining fence line and put 50% down in late June for work to be completed in August. Once management learned of our inability to get the work scheduled via phone calls, they responded either to this posting or a voicemail that came to their attention. Work was performed quickly and professionally thereafter and when the remaining 50% was to be paid, we learned the firm provided a generous discount for the inconvenience we experienced caused by the delay. With improved internal communications, this would be an "A" and it's hoped the firm is able to address their scheduling process.

They arrived a few minutes early got started on time and finished. Amazing quickly. Everything was just as promised.

John and his crew showed up on time and got to work immediately. All men worked very hard. The only break they took was waiting for supplies.

(Warranty work) They came at the time promised and finished efficiently.

I lost several plants last winter and called MFL to get an estimate on new landscaping. Donna Divik had great ideas/plans. The crew was great. John walti showed me where everything was going, moved some things around and showed me.

The team was very professional and did excellent work.

Landscape designer and project foremen were on time, thoroughly discussed each step, friendly, professional. Installation was fast.

Came later than scheduled but called to explain, involved me in all aspects of job as it progressed; work done quickly & efficiently.

I have an HOA and it is hard to get hold of me during the day- so the process was a bit drawn out schedule wise - but moved along well and Meadows Farm was very helpful and responsive. Installation day went well - we had a downpour late afternoon, but Tervis and his crew kept working. Finished yard looked great they paid attention to all the details - of placing the plants and drawing out the landscape lines. I would suggest to folks planning an outdoor retreat to meet with the landscaper at the garden center if possible when the plants are being selected. All of my plants are beautiful but I definitely would have changed the size of 3 of the privacy trees- still might - that much of an issue. The Landscaper called me the day before concerned about changing the color of the myrtle tree - which I appreciated. Also - buy the irrigation insurance - I did and glad I did going to need it.

It went very well. The cost of what I wished to have done, however, is more than I am willing to spend at the moment. At least now I have a better idea about what I need done costs. The young man arrived promptly, was very courteous and sent me a very good graphic plan of the work he deemed necessary and the costs involved. My needs were indeed a challenge for him because my home is on a heavily wooded lot which abounds in deer, racoons, foxes, etc. As you can see, only a few types of shrubs and plants can survive in this environment, but he came up with an excellent solution. If I decide to have any of the plan done I will certainly call on Meadow's Farms in Chantilly, VA. The greatest expense was the cost of replacing some pressure-treated timbers which outline the planting area in front of my house. Thank you very much for the excellent work. See above. All went like clock work?

The original installation went well. The tree was installed timely. However soon after planting the tree started to die. Once dead Meadows Farms was contacted to fulfill their warranty. They indicated that the warranty only covered the tree and not the additional money spent to plant the tree. I indicated to them this was not the message that I had received when I initially bought the tree. Also, I noted that the tree was only two months old and that it was not properly planted since it did not root. When we dug the tree up we noted that the additional soil that we had purchased as part of the installation had not been used and the tree was planted directly in the clay soil out back. Meadows Farms issued us a coupon for the cost of the tree. They will not honor the complete replacement of the tree despite the timing and the improper planting.

Purchased the Big Deal for design services. The designer came to my home (after a few calls) to do a design of the front yard. We had a lot of ideas, but were also looking for her to add some ideas as to how to really make the project pop. She didnt add anything, just went with our ideas. She left and said she would send us a plan within a few days. I had to follow up a few times to get the plans (not really a big deal but annoying). When we got them, she really didnt measure out much. For example, we wanted a lane of trees in our front yard. She didnt measure out the space so she didnt know how many trees to add - so she just added 5 trees (we calculate it should be closer to 17). She never followed up again which is fine. We want to landscape the front yard in the spring. Overall I liked the prices offered, but the design will have to be redone and measured. Not sure what to do next as I dont want to pay for a designer to come out again. Update - called Meadows Farms and they are sending a new disgner out free of charge. Crossing my fingers this works this time!

I was not pleased with the design and felt the designer did not want to spend time searching for the shrubs that would do well in my yard with sun etc.

On Saturday, July 26, my husband bought 6 rolls of sod (called perennials on the receipt) from Meadow Farms. He came home, unloaded the sod and found the grass was dead. We immediately called Meadow Farms and asked them to replace the sod and pick up the dead rolls of sod. They said they would not take responsibility for the viability of the sod we bought that same morning or drive out to pick them up. They did say if my disabled husband would roll up the sod and return it they would refund the money. I explained that he wasn't physically able to do that because of his age and moving the sod up a steep hill. It was decided by the manager that since they did not consider themselves liable they could do nothing. The receipt very clearly states that "Perennials are guaranteed until November 1 of purchase year". If they considered the sod as perennials then they should replace it. We had to agree to disagree.

All work was performed very professionally. Workers did a great clean-up job.

Okay. The project estimate came in almost double what we expected. So, more estimates and project element reconsideration will be necessary.

Scott Fruehwald and his crew were great! Worked through some issues with weather and did a great job, took great care in the work they did and answering any questions I had.

The landscape architect arrived punctually and developed a drawing of the small beds we were interested in. Because the weather is so hot right now, she recommended that we wait until fall to actually have the work done. We plan to do this. She also developed a plan for the hardscape project we are interested in. In order to fully price the projects, she took the information with her and the next day sent me an estimate of cost for both projects. The prices seem reasonable for the work to be done and we expect to move forward with the front yard project this fall. The hardscape project will probably be put off until Spring to enable us to get together the funds needed to pay for it, but we do plan to eventually have that work done as well.

They overall job far exceeded my expectations!

Hugh Perry, the designer, was very knowledgeable and provided excellent advice regarding the design. John Waltz and his crew, also did an excellent job with the installation.

It went well. Only thing is that I would have liked for him to be more specific with the measurements and for him to actually provide a rough drawing of his ideas. But all in all, I was very happy with him and will do many of his recommendations myself.

Technician arrived on time and spent at least an hour discussing options and then drew out, to scale, a rough landscape plan for adding a feature in my yard. At the end, he gave us a cost stimate of what the work would cost. Overall, we were very happy with the knowledge and advice provided.

The crew was outstanding and very efficient. They arrived at the prescribed time and completed the job in a timely manner. Chris was very helpful explaining the work to be and we could not be more pleased.
