We've had Mannix do check-ups on our HVAC for the past year, in addition to a gas regulator replacement. Both their technicians and their office staff are courteous and competent. They do a great job of explaining what they're doing and go the extra mile to make sure things are working like they should. We feel very well taken care of.

I chose Mannix over few other contractors because my sister who replaced the HVAC including water heater two years ago told me how the Mannix did excellent job on her house. They didn’t disappointment me. I was in emergency situation on the day of work which I could not stay home all day to communicate with the crew but final outcome of the work is excellent. I got a very reasonable quote and the whole crews were polite and the customer services also were very nice. I didn’t instruct them to fix the cold basement which I didn’t know it was a problem is now warm and comfortable. I had a miscommunication on one issue but they came and resolved it more than I expected.

Relying on Angie's List reviews, we chose Mannix to come to our home and perform the work. We had to wait over a month to get an appointment for a tune up on our older AC unit. The unit was working perfectly all summer long before Mannix arrived on a very hot July day. The young tech arrived on time and was professional, however when he saw our unit he seemed confused and nervous. Before he started working we told him we were thinking about replacing the system in the next year and wanted to get a quote for that as well. He said he would set up a sales appointment and have someone contact us. While working on the unit we spilled coolant or some type of fluid, and then said we needed to put more in which would cost us several hundreds of dollars. Later that evening when we were getting ready for bed we noticed that the house had heated up substantially and adjusted it down more. We woke up in the middle of the night and realized the house never cooled, and was now sitting at 85 degrees while blowing hot air. I was on maternity leave and ran to my newborn baby, whom I had in a sleep sack, worried he overheated since newborns cannot sweat. He was incredibly hot and lethargic. I immediately called the emergency line of Mannix and was told that if they came out and the unit wasn't working because it was our fault, we would be charged a large fee because it's after hours, so I left a very teary voicemail with management about what was going on. The rest of the night was miserable. I called Mannix first thing in the morning crying about the experience we went through all night and she said she would get someone to us immediately. No one came until late in the afternoon, but they were sure able to get their sales team to our house first thing in the morning. Since the representative broke our system the sales team offered me a 10% discount on a new system (yes, you read that right!) for the "inconvenience" of sleeping and living in a home close to 90 degrees with a newborn. A new tech came out later that afternoon, assessed the situation, and in more or less words said the guy that came out earlier, which he said was a newer, younger tech, should have never done what he did to our system because of the age, and broke it. No one from Mannix followed up with me to see how things were going or apologized to me. Their inexperienced employee broke our unit, then they tried to sell me on a new one through them with a bonus 10% discount for my troubles, and I had to live in a 90 degree home with a baby that was only a few weeks old for an entire week until I could get another company to come out and install a new unit, setting me back close to $6,000. They also never refunded me the tune up fee which adds insult to injury. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They lack the proper training and customer service when they make mistakes.

Response from Mannix Heating & Cooling
I was alarmed when I first read this review as my team consistently strives for top notch customer service. I have since researched and interviewed all the employees who had interactions with this customer and here is what I discovered: The initial call to our office was made on June 11, 2018. The customer service representative asked the customer if they had an issue with their A/C unit or just needed a maintenance. Our representative was told that the unit was working fine and only a maintenance was needed. Since trouble calls are considered higher priority, those calls are booked within 24-48 hours; however, we limit the number of "maintenance" calls booked in a given day. This is done so we can have the availability to address trouble calls. Since our team of service techs has various levels of experience, we tend to schedule the less experienced techs on the maintenance calls as they are simply cleaning and checking the equipment. Diagnosing problems can be more difficult, and we reserve those calls for the more experience techs. Our tech arrived on July 16, 2018 for the maintenance visit. This was one of our less experienced techs due to the type of call we were told was needed. Our tech noted when he arrived that the unit was manufactured in 1991 making it 27 years old. The average life of an A/C unit in our area is 13 to 18 years. As a rule, we do not service or perform maintenances on equipment over 20 years of age. We have found that it is better not to touch an older unit that is working properly since older corroded parts might break more easily when a service is performed. This can lead to a situation where we are blamed for "breaking" their unit even though our intentions are good. Our tech did inform the customer of the age of the unit, and he was told by the customer that the unit "wasn't cooling well". After evaluating the unit, our tech found and noted on the service ticket that the unit was low on refrigerant with a 41 degree superheat and only a 11 degree split across the coil (should be 20 degrees). He also found the capacitor was reading 10% lower than it'[Member Information Removed] rating, and he also noted that the condensate drain line on the indoor unit needed to be rerun. He broke out the cost to repair each item and recommended replacement due to age. The customer agreed to get an estimate for a replacement unit. That evening the customer contacted the after hours duty technician to report that the unit wasn't cooling. She was informed that if it was not a direct result of negligence on the part of the maintenance tech that there would be a charge. The customer declined the service call and requested one the next business day. We dispatched a senior tech on the 17th, and he found not running due to a burned wire from the contactor to the capacitor. He repaired the wire and got the unit running at no additional charge to the customer. The unit was running when he left but was still not working as it should (only 11 degree split) due to a low refrigerant level. Again, the technician noted that the unit was 27 years old and we would not warranty any further issues with the unit due to its age. I wish this customer informed our customer service rep that the unit was older as we would have dispatched the proper tech to her home which may have changed her overall experience with our company. I also noticed she neglected to state the age of the air conditioner in her review of our company. This was information documented at the first visit and is important for the circumstances. After reviewing the entire situation, our initial dispatched maintenance tech should not have performed the maintenance due to the unit'[Member Information Removed] age, and for that reason I will be sending this customer a full refund for the entire amount she paid our company. I apologize to this customer for the negative experience she received. Jerry Mannix

Good diagnostic on old dehumidifier by tech, when signal of failure did not show on warning light even though compressor had failed. Helpful discussion of rerouting planned replacement to have intake only in basement rather than throughout house, since basement only was the problem. A little confusion with office, which did not call me as tech indicated it would about written estimate tech left me for purchase and installation of new unit--I had to contact office after not hearing for almost 2 days. A little confusion in office after I indicated which unit I wanted and affirmed order, when I had to call again to follow up on when unit would be available and when I could get it installed; they may have 2 office folks in different offices who don't communicate efficiently sometimes. But once that was straightened out, I was given first available appointment next working day, techs were able to come even earlier than appointment time, and installation was done well. Unit works great. Used 5% senior discount. I would use again, bearing in mind I might need to push again if I again needed something on a fairly urgent basis.

Good afternoon, I contacted three HVAC businesses in the Oakton area after our 1st floor Carrier home air conditioning system went out. I selected the three vendors based on Angie's list and additional reviews and personal long term experience with one of them. Mannix was one of the three. Hal is the sales person who came to our home. He arrived on his scheduled time, called ahead to let us know he was enroute and was a professional and personable representative for Mannix throughout the visit and subsequent discussions. The online evaluations for Mannix are first rate and Hal, if anything, added to that reputation. He was knowledgeable, pleasant, informative and provided all the technical information needed to make an informed decision. His estimate was timely and professional. In this case, our decision was complicated by the competence and professionalism of all three businesses I dealt with and none provided any negative discriminators. Hal worked with us to make his price the most competitive during this snapshot in time. We contracted with Mannix and Matt D and Marcellino completed the installation. Both were outstanding. Again they arrived on time and called ahead. The installation was expeditious and flawless, Matt explained the Greenspeed technology in depth, assisted with the set-up and helped register the product. The unit operated as advertised from the outset and no issues have arisen. After the work was completed Hal checked in to be sure we were fully satisfied. Our experience with Mannix embodies what we would hope to get from an 'A' rated Angie's list business and they have our highest recommendation. We will continue to do business with Mannix in the future. Respectfully submitted. TDS

I cannot recommend Mannix highly enough. We had a 20+ year old HVAC system, a water heater that was even older, and an electric panel from the original construction in the late 1960s. The HVAC had failed a couple of times in recent months - among other issues, the system was overheating - causing either the fuses to blow or melting the wire insulation in the unit. After the last repair attempt (a company different from Mannix), the technician said he could not recommend our turning the system back on - and would note the same in the repair report he would submit to his company. So, I could no longer put-off replacing the HVAC. I had five different companies come to the house, do an assessment, and provide a quote. Without prompting they all made the same recommendations (replace the HVAC and electric panel). Several suggested replacing the water heater as it was likely to fail in the not distant future and they could offer a discount if all the work was bundled. I narrowed my decision down to Mannix and one other vendor. Both had solid online reputations (Angie's List, Yelp, etc), but what decided it for me was the combination of Mannix's responsiveness and willingness to strike a deal that was equitable for both of us. I had many questions and Jerry was not only very quick to respond, but was detailed and professional in his answers. And when the crew completed all of their work, he came to the house personally to inspect the work and ensure that I was satisfied with all the work (which I absolutely was). The crew that did all the work was very professional and kept me informed of their progress and made sure to ask questions to confirm what I did/didn't want. They were very careful in removing the old equipment and installing the new - ensuring there was no damage to the house or the back yard. I don't think I could have asked for a better experience - I recommend Mannix, without reservation, to anyone.

Let me just start off by how great the customer service was and the cost was very reasonable. I did not get the impression that they were trying to rip me off like their competitors, and Mannix really knew what they were doing. Keith the service technician came by to assess the situation and was very prompt. He went above and beyond to diagnose the problem. Jerry called me shortly afterwards to inform me exactly why my furnace was leaking water and how it was installed incorrectly in the first place. He was kind enough to compose an e-mail with all the details so I would easily understand what was going on. Jerry promptly scheduled his technicians to come out just two days afterwards. His technicians were prompt and arrived just as scheduled. Not only did they provide excellent service, but they were extremely courteous. They took off their shoes before the entered the house and took the necessary precautions as to not track dirt onto the floors. The technicians made sure everything was installed properly as well as walked me through how to set up my new thermostat. Mannix clearly showed they cared and were sympathetic towards my situation. I HIGHLY recommend them and will definitely be using them in the future.

First let me preface by saying these guys are AMAZING. I called Mannix on a Friday afternoon because I received a call from my tenant that the house was not heating above 66 degrees. They had a technician at the house only a few hours later to inspect. This was a very cold day were temperatures were far below freezing so for them to make it out to the house in a non emergency scenario on a Friday afternoon during what was certainly a busy time period for them was impressive. The technician found that my 30 year old heat pump was beyond repair and needed to be replaced. These things typically last no more than 20 years so we were on borrowed time. They had an estimator (Hal) in the next morning (Saturday). Around noon he called me and talked through the options for a replacement heat pump system and explained that he would send me an estimate in an hour. As promised I received the estimate via email. The estimate was very thorough and easy to understand. I did have one question which Hal was able to answer with a quick phone call. Very easy process for committing to the work which in about one hour later was scheduled for Wednesday. Early Monday morning I received word from my tenant that the heat stopped working entirely. Current outdoor temperature was in the teens. I called Hal at 8AM and explained the situation. He was able to re-arrange some scheduling and had a crew at the house at 9:30 the same day! I swung by the house later that afternoon to get a walk through of the new install. Matt (installer) gave me a very thorough walk through and Hal made a special trip out to make sure everything was good. I also received 0 percent financing for three years that took me literally 5 minutes to apply and receive confirmation. I couldn't be more happy with the service from Mannix, especially Hal and Matt.

Response from Mannix Heating & Cooling
We installed a Trane/Aspen Heat pump system [Member Information Removed] this member's [Member Information Removed] condo [Member Information Removed] July of 2012. On April 25 of 2016, we were called to the member's home for a no A/C service call. Our tech found that the indoor coil that we installed [Member Information Removed] 2012 was leaking and needed to be replaced. While the manufacturer covered the cost of the part, the labor and refrigerant wasn't covered. The part was not stocked by the local Trane distributor, so it had to be shipped [Member Information Removed] at a cost of an additional $125. The total repair cost the member $1,510. This member was upset and rightly so at the high cost to repair a piece of equipment that was only 4 year old. As the contractor who installed the equipment, justified or not, we are often the recipient of a customer's frustration and anger when a piece of equipment purchased from us develops a manufacturer defect. After experiencing multiple issues with Trane/Aspen equipment, we decided as a company to no longer sell that brand of equipment. I realize that does not help this particular member's situation, and we are sorry they were faced with this unexpected repair; however, it was an unfortunate situation over which we had no control. We used Mannix for two service calls, one routine maintenance and the other a hose leak. The repairmen who came out were courteous and patient with my questions, as I'm from the north and never had central air before. The admin was polite and diligent, and he rates were reasonable. They don't generally work with my brand of system so I did switch companies, but if you have a Trane system, I wouldn't hesitate to use them.

Their bids were competitive, the salesman was very responsive/pleasant to deal with, and all of the men who came to install equipment were very polite and very knowledgeable. I can’t emphasize enough how pleased I am with the work that Mannix HVAC did for me. All my questions were patiently answered, they honored my request to place the new humidifier at a level low enough for me to reach without a ladder, and they even registered all the new equipment for me. Mannix HVAC was very organized, and very professional from the beginning to the end of the process. Another thing I should note is that because they are a factory authorized dealer of Carrier products, I received some factory rebates which saved me a lot of money!
Description of Work: Had small heat pump replaced for top floor of 3 story TH. For floors 1 and 2, I converted to natural gas heat and electric A/C - a lengthy process of approximately 7 months because of having to wait on the gas company. Thankfully, Mannix HVAC gave me guidance throughout the hair-pulling process of dealing with the gas company.

Mannix Heating and Cooling recently installed a gas line for us (from our basement to the first floor kitchen) for our soon to be newly installed gas range top. The workers were clean and polite and waited in front of our home at 7:15 a.m. for their 8:00 a.m. appointment. They finished the job and showed the entire work to me. What is the greatest thing about this company, is that they are reputable, and they are less than 1/2 the price of Cardinal Gas.

As every homeowner knows, even the best of intentions sometimes get thrown to the wayside. I'm pretty good about upkeep and was planning on replacing my heat pump this coming fall, during the in-between season where it's cool enough that you don't need the AC but not so cold as to need the heat. Well, my heat pump had different ideas and, despite twice-yearly maintenance visits, it decided to call it quits... on what, looking back, ended up being the hottest day of the summer. I did my usual cross-check betwen the Washington Consumer Checkbook, Angie's List, and Yelp, and the choice was clear -- Mannix to the rescue! Despite being peak time for service calls, I had a tech (Keith) at my house the next morning and, when it became obvious that the heat pump needed to be replaced, his colleague Steve stopped by later that afternoon to discuss options. Once I picked out the new heat pump (a Carrier with great energy efficiency), I signed the contract, and the crew - two great guys named Richard and Charles - were here THE NEXT MORNING to do the install. It was less than 48 hours from the time of my initial call to the time Richard and Charles pulled away, my home quickly cooling down and becoming habitable again. I'm still flabbergasted by how quickly everything fell into place, especially at the absolute worst time during the summer when demand for top-quality talent is high. At every step, everything was clearly explained to me, my options laid-out so I could make an intelligent decision with no pressure, and everyone I dealt with couldn't have been more friendly or courteous. There were also things in the 'going the extra mile' category, like Richard and Charles leveling out the ground and putting a new fiberglass stand in place, providing really good support for the new heat pump, as well as making sure my Nest thermostat was connected properly. Richard and Charles were also very mindful to keep everything inside the house clean and tidy, and you'd barely know they were here once everything was all said and done. When folks take care of your home like it's theirs, then you know you've found a great company to work with. I've already recommended them to several folks in my neighborhood, confident that they'll have an equally good experience. Oh, by the way, that new Carrier is working like gangbusters, and my energy usage actually went down by one-third between July and August. Eco-friendly! So, Keith, Steve, Richard, and Charles -- thanks again for coming to the rescue on the hottest day of the year. I can't thank you enough!

Fine but, in disconnecting and later reconnecting my water heater one of the "inside" electrical connections wasn't reconnected (or perhaps was disconnected inadvertently). A technician did come the next evening and correct the problem. Also, while I feel the technicians that did the install were generally very careful and professional, I believe - among a few other minor dings, etc. in the house - they scratched my washing machine in a couple places. With moving large/heavy items through a house, I understand that things are going to happen, but I mention the washing machine as I wouldn't think that something like that could have been avoided.
