Description of Work: I had inquired with Long Fence about replacing 20 windows in our home. They were quick to reply to our inquiry and flexible with their scheduling. I was mainly pleased except when the salesman came to my house he nearly left within seconds when he learned that the appointment was just with me and not my husband. Being in sales myself, I understand the annoyance when a salesman has to do their pitch twice because a spouse isn't home. However, In this case I let him know we'd already had 3 other quotes and really knew what we were looking for, we just need to see a sample of the window for looks, and get down to price. My annoyance with this salesman however is that he flat out said to me "but you can't make a decision on your own." He was taken back when I told him he really needed to appeal to me more than my husband who, at this point, didn't care what the windows were and just wanted me to pick one I liked (visually). After some convincing he stayed and did his pitch. I was overall pleased with his appointment (a bit cheesy/tacky sales approach when it came to price) but his pricing did work out to be better than the competitor we were deciding between. Ultimately we decided not to go with Long Fence because their "lifetime warranty" was a concern of ours after learning their window brand had gone under in the past and all those home owners lost their warranty. For 20 Windows, we needed something with more security so we went with a larger brand. I did end up complimenting the salesman for his persistence though.

Description of Work: Installed wooden fence on both sides of front yard, two gates on either side of house going to back yard, privacy wooden fence on part of the back yard and chain-link fence on the back of the yard. First, the project was delayed so that I could remove brush and dead trees. When doing the walk-through, the salesman, Adam, said that the fence would wrap around any remaining trees. I left some Mulberries that were right on the property line. On the day of the chain-link fence, I called Adam at 7am to ask that the fence be delayed, so that I could remove the mulberries. The workers were scheduled to arrive at 8am. The team arrived at 8am and installed the fence, so Adam either didn't call or ignored my request. The fencing did not "wrap" around the trees, but instead cut off a pie shaped wedge of back-yard, leaving the mulberries and any weeds that grew around them ridiculously stranded and depriving me of about 75 square feet of back yard. When I called Adam, he informed that it would cost me another $500 dollars for a crew to take the fence down and put it back up. At the time, I figured I should have called sooner than the same day, and accepted the cost. In the meantime, the largest gate leading to the back yard was installed incorrectly. The gate itself was almost 6 inches off the ground, allowing animals to come in and out. The gate swung out when it was supposed to swing in. The thumb-lock was on the wrong door and when the thumb-lock was used to open the gate, the locking bar hit the hardware on the inside and wouldn't open. The only way to open the gate was to go in through the garage and open it from the inside. In addition, one side of the fence that held the gate to the garage was installed at a weird angle, with the post located behind the fence, rather than at the sides. The beautiful and expensive copper caps for the posts looked great...except for the trim that broke when the caps were put in place. There were about 7 or 8 broken slats that were nevertheless carelessly installed. I called repeatedly about the gate, and was told first, that it was installed correctly. I asked my landscaper if he thought the gate was installed correctly and he explained to me all the things that were wrong with the gate. I called Long Fence again and got Adam to come out. Since he was already coming to look at the re-installation of my unfortunate chain-link fence, and showed him the gate and the problems with it. He agreed that it was installed incorrectly and he would have someone call me to schedule someone to fix the fence. Meanwhile, the "crew" (one old guy) came and re-installed the chain-link fence. The next week I got the bill from the loan company for the first payment on the completed project. I called Adam to complain. It was my understanding that I would not be charged until the installation was complete. He directed me to Cindy, who seems to be the general dogs-body at this Long Fence. Since I did not have my gate installed correctly, I did not think that Long Fence should have paid themselves for something they had not completed. I had to call repeatedly to find out what was going on. I spoke with Peter, the accounts manager, who asked me what was my problem? Didn't I have a fence around my property and wasn't my property protected? I questioned his cavalier manner about my concerns and he said, in a very nice Irish accent, "Well, that's not really my business. I just handle the money." Apparently, customer service was not a part of account management. After repeated calls and complaints, I finally asked Cindy, who is also the crew scheduler, to send a supervisor out so I could go over what needed to be done. The next day some perky person called to send a crew over that day to fix the fence. I refused, saying that I had asked for a supervisor to come out and I expected a supervisor. The supervisor called and schedule an appointment for the next day. Two hours later, he called again to schedule an appointment. He did not remember that he had already scheduled an appointment. The supervisor came out and went around the fence with my son. He agreed that the fence needed to be replace. He went back to the office...and I didn't hear from them until I called a week later to find out what was going on. Cindy scheduled a crew to come out. The crew came out and started to switch out the thumb-lock on the gate. I asked them what they were doing. They showed me the instructions: Circled pictures to replace the odd fence post and to move the thumb lock. I told them to stop immediately and sent them away. I called Cindy and asked what was going on. She contacted to the supervisor, who said, Oh, right, the whole gate needs to be replaced. Finally, 7 months after the start of the project, the gate was replaced and now works correctly. And, by the way, the accounting department called to ask about the $500 I owed for the "crew" of one who took down and replaced the chain link fence. This company has no respect for the customer and certainly is not concerned with quality and good service. I would never use this company again and am taking down the free advertisement placard they put on the fence.

Long Fence sent a Sales Representative to our house promptly after our initial call. We received the estimate on July 18. We then paused to work through the insurance claim process before having any work done. (We had additional damage.) Several weeks later, once the blocking tree limbs were removed, I called Long Fence to schedule the work. I spoke to the Sales Rep and emailed a scanned copy of the signed estimate on Friday, August 10. He told me to expect a call mid-week the following week to set a date for the work to be done. The next Monday, my credit card was charged the 1/3 deposit of $481. Thursday of that week, 8/16, I called Long Fence to find out where things stood for scheduling, since the Sales Rep had told me to expect a date mid-week. I was put through to someone's voicemail and left a message requesting a return call. I also called the Sales Rep and asked him to call me. I did not hear back that day. Friday, I called the Sales Rep again, requesting a call back. I have yet to hear from him. I also called the office again and spoke to someone who, rather rudely, told me that the process was quite a bit longer, that it regularly took 2-3 weeks. Yes, the estimate said "work to begin in approximately 2-3 weeks," but given the Sales Rep's guidance, I hadn't focused on that. (And it had been more than 3 weeks since the estimate.) I waited a week before calling again, on Thursday, Aug 23. As it had been almost 2 weeks since sending in the invoice, it seemed reasonable to get a status update on scheduling. I had to leave voicemail at 3:00 pm because the two people in the office who could give me information had left for the day. I called the office again the next day. The receptionist put me through to the main Long Fence customer service center, but as there was not yet a work order for my fence work, they could not provide any information. I called the local office back and the receptionist put me through to the voicemail of the woman who does the scheduling, telling me she would be in the office the next morning. I never heard from her. Monday, 8/27, I called again, intensely frustrated at people not returning my calls. I spoke to someone in dispatch who said, "I received your voicemails, but since I didn't have any information to give you, I didn't call you back. My jaw is still on the floor that she thinks this is appropriate. Oh, there was STILL no work order and thus no information on scheduling a date. We came home from our pre-Labor Day vacation to see our property marked up from Miss Utility. I hoped for a call from Long Fence on Tuesday, 9/4. Nope. I called them today, 9/5. Their customer service person was back in the office after a 6 week medical leave. Obviously she was not to blame for any of this, and through the afternoon, was able to get some information on her end to provide me with a date for the work of Tuesday, 9/11. The estimate says work to be completed in 2-3 weeks. This will have taken over 4 weeks, with 3 different people in the office failing to return voicemails. The icing on the cake? The customer service person asked if I wanted to speak to her manager. I said, "yes, please." I left him a voicemail politely expressing frustration with the poor communication from the people in his office and asking him to call me. He did return my call and left voicemail, but expressed zero interest in learning anything about the non-returned calls and poor communication from the office. Way to manage. For what it's worth, all my voicemails and communications were polite. I expressed frustration and amazement, but did not cross any line that would prompt someone to ignore my call. This seems to be a poorly run local office throughout, with a surprisingly lengthy and non-transparent process for scheduling work, and a poor culture of returning calls to customers. I would have been a bit frustrated with the long time time frame, but accepting of it, had expectations been set correctly initially and had there been sufficient communication. I will update this review after the work is completed, scheduled for this coming Tuesday, 9/11. Hopefully all goes smoothly.
Description of Work: My State Farm Agent recommended that we call this Long Fence office for repair work to our backyard wood fence and split rail fence following the derecho earlier this summer. Neither fence was installed by Long Fence. The work addressed by the estimate is replacement of 30 feet of 72" high wood stockade with vinyl caps, plus replacing 20 feet of 36" high 2 rail split rail with a vinyl wire mesh. The total estimate is for $1458. The estimate says the work to begin in approximately 2-3 weeks. Long Fence also takes a credit card deposit of 1/3 the cost pretty much as soon as you send them a signed contract.

The salesman was prompt and professional. The job was completed in three days. Looked nice. Within 2-3 months the lattice started warping. Long has a one-year warranty to fix problems. After the warranty, they charge very high rates to discourage service calls. Two weeks ago, one four foot section of lattice fell apart. Long gave me an estimate of $500 to repair it. I called someone else, who rebuilt that section, and an eight-footer, replaced several warped boards, and tighten up the fence in several places. Cost $150. He showed me the inferior staples and nails Long uses. He said I will continue to have problems with this fence.

We were looking to expand the backyard fence of our townhouse, which means adhering carefully to all of the rules and regulations of the HOA! I called a number of companies and Long Fence was the only company that promptly called me back, came out for a free estimate, and followed up with a detailed plan and price. There was a problem finding the actual property lines (I couldn't get the plat from the County) and they really went the extra mile to find it, bring in a surveyor and make sure everything was set. We had a little phone tag in setting up the actual appointment but once it was settled they did the work in one day and it looked fantastic. Update: We worked with Long Fence to install a patio in the backyard. The work was done quickly, it looked great and was reasonably priced. Two years later, one side of the patio was sinking. I called to see what could be done. Although we were out of warranty, they had me send pictures and within two days called and said that when there was room in the schedule someone would be out to fix it. The work was done two weeks later, it took a full morning but it looks great. The guys who were fixing it showed me how they had graded it to better drain off and away from the house. I really appreciated the customer service!

I liked the job that they did originally. The workers were very good and efficient and worked quickly. However, the fence did not stand the test of time, and they did not stand behind their product. They told me only later that I should have painted it. I had asked them at that time if it should have been painted, and they had said that that was not necessary because the wood was a very seasoned one. The wood is all warping and so on. They said there was nothing that they could do about it. Their price was okay; they were flexible with it. They answered my calls but did not help, and their punctuality was good. I was not happy with their work, so I would not recommend them to others. I would not use them again in the future.

The instalation went fine and looks good, it was on schedule. However when the installed the gate, they put the latch behind a post - you cannot reach it to open the gate. Steve Pyne from Long Fence showed up punctually to give us the quote. He was clearly knowledgeable in the field. He was also helpful and cordial and helped us understand our options in terms of what kind of fence we wanted to put in. We decided against them because they were about 30% higher than the company that we ended up hiring. We would probably recommend them to someone else at least to get a quote. Just because they were not a good fit for us does not mean they are not good!!!

We were happy with our fence, install was great, price was competitive. Then we had a seam give in one of our gates. Long Fence came out and assessed that it was covered under our warranty and they said they would call in a few weeks once they got in the replacement. Well that was they end of us liking Long Fence. The customer support has been horrible. I called up after 6-7 weeks enquiring about the replacement, was told that they sent it to the wrong location, it should be in soon. My husband called 2 weeks later, was told a manager would call him back, he never heard from him. One week after that, I called, talked to the manager, he seemed surprised that we have not been called to schedule the repair, since he thought he saw it there. He was supposed to go find it and get back to me. NEVER did. So, nice fence, but the customer support it terrible.
