I asked to have two driveways resealed. This was what they quoted. They accidentally sealed only one driveway when they were here. I called them and pointed out the error. They quickly researched and found that a mistake was made and promptly scheduled the second job. I believe this was an honest mistake and definitely plan to use them again in the future.

My next-door neighbor and I agreed to have our separate driveways done today in order to receive a 10% discount. Yesterday evening, the company scheduler gave me an arrival window of 11-2 today. The two person crew arrived at 11:40, introduced themselves and asked my neighbor and I to show them exactly what sidewalk areas we wanted done. They cleaned our areas with a gas-powered leaf blower, filled all the surface cracks in our sidewalk and spread the sealer. At all time they were polite, inter-active and fast. When they finished they taped off the sidewalks and driveway, packed up and left. The work they did, while still drying this evening, looks great. I plan to use this company in the years to come.
Description of Work: Cleaned and sealed my driveway (approximately 230 square yards) and the asphalt walkway in front of our property.

Outstanding! They arrived around 7:30 in the morning and we finished by 12 noon. They had to remove all the asphalt! They came in with a crew of people who knew what they were doing and did it! The supervisor confirmed that the manual override was on the garage doors prior to me leaving. When I cam back around 11:30, they were finishing up. It was left in good order with no debris left. They were friendly but not chatty at all. We have used this company in the past for sealing our driveway and we will continue to do so, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that they would redo our driveway and do such a great job!
Description of Work: Excavated up to 3 inches of asphalt driveway and haul away material. Install 21A stone as needed, grade, and compact. Install 3 inches SM 9.5A VDOT approved asphalt. Roll and compact to 2 1/2 inches. Nam-tamp the edges for support for an estimated 118 square yards.

It went well. I actually had scheduled treatment last year, but too late really. When they arrived, I had lots of leaves falling on our large driveway and parking area and workmen left it up to me, but advised against it since even though they would clear leaves, a lot falling before treated area was "set" could "mark" it. I decided to wait. Even though they had made the trip, they did not charge me. When this year rolled around, they called to remind me in the Spring, but since we had a truckload of mulch on part of our parking area, I again put it off until I later got a flyer in the mail and decided to try again. Their price had escalated a bit by that time, but after checking around, it was in the same ballpark as others. When I called, they gave me a date and a general time and said that I didn't have to be there (but cars had to be moved and out of garage obviously!). Or ... I could call on morning of schedule and they would give me a 3 hour window. I did and they arrived right in the middle of the 3 hour window. Workmen were polite and diligent and I was pleased with the care they seemed to take in their work.
Description of Work: Arrived during scheduled time, confirmed area to be treated, did some grass edging, cleaned (with blower) area to be treated, treated existing cracks with thicker sealer and smoothed the material into crack and surrounding asphalt, then applied sealer with large squeegee (sic?). Was careful to not get sealant on grass or surrounding structures, curbing, etc., marked end of driveway with yellow ribbon to warn cars and pedestrians as needed, and walked on grassy area when finished to present invoice and be paid.

When we told them not bother to reschedule for the third time and that we were going to review this on Angie's List as appropriate they SAID THAT THEY DID NOT CARE! Wow, just wow. So do not bother to give them your business, folks! They do not understand customer service at all. Do not know what happened since we have used them for years. NEVER again will we waste our time scheduling with them. You lost A LOT MORE than 70.00 Collegiate Sealers & Paving due to your lack of caring, customer service, and disrespect. You earned a lot of poor ill will that far exceeds the little $70+ tip that we were going to pay you.
Description of Work: The did not show up twice on the scheduled times and never called us to let us know that they were not going to come. They claimed that is was due to weather when we called both times which is bunk because both times they cancelled there was no rain in the forecast and the temp was in the mid 90's. We called other vendors when we realized they were not going to show up during our second scheduled day and they ALL said that they were working on both days that Collegiate Sealers & Paving refused to show up so it was certainly not a weather issue. They must have had a bigger job to do and think that single family home owners are not worth it. We are telling all of our neighbors now to NOT schedule any more services with them and we have used them for years. This is utterly ridiculous. And now this totally messes up our plans for an event we are having. NEVER SCHEDULE any work with this company!!!!!!!!

In all honesty my company did nothing wrong. We could have rolled the dice when showers popped up and continued to work. Instead I called my crews in early at a significant cost to my company. If it rains within a few hours after a driveway is sealed it will splatter the black sealer on the home. This customer was first scheduled for Monday August 31. We worked for part of the day, and I had to pull my crews in early because of rain in the area. The customer called on Monday and told my office if the work is not completed on Wednesday he was going to bash us on social media. We rescheduled for Wednesday September 2. Again we worked for part of the day and again had to bring our crews in early. Both days rain chance was minimal, but as anyone who lives in this area knows, rain can pop up at anytime. I have attached the ABC newscast weather report on Wednesday from Doug Hill that afternoon. It clearly shows showers in the area in his afternoon news report. [hyperlink] Although it may not have rained at the customers home that day, the radar clearly shows rain all around the Northern Virginia viewing area. It would have been reckless to work and risk damaging my customers homes that afternoon. It costs my company a significant amount of money when we only work half days. Due to traffic and fuel costs it's a considerable cost to get my crews out to the jobs. Additionally, it costs even more to clean up and reseal driveways that wash out. Everyone gets contacted when I have to bring my crews in early and reschedule jobs. It may take an hour or two to contact everyone. The customer also stated that he was told by my office staff that "we don't care". That is false, If you look at our reviews, there is no pattern of my office staff being rude. I asked them and I believe them that they did not say they didn't care. It's unfortunate in this business environment that when something does not goes as planned some customers think the worst of the company then bash them on social media. Although we try, my company is not perfect and we always live up to our mistakes. In this case we did nothing wrong. Collegiate Sealers & Paving has been in business for over 25 years and completes over 20,000 jobs annually. We are A rated by Angie's list because we always give our customers the highest customer service.
I have a large driveway...approximately 230 ft long with two large parking areas. They came out, cleaned the driveway and then sealed it. They were very professional and meticulous about applying the sealant. They ensured nothing but the driveway got sealant. The driveway looks great. Outstanding job.

I contacted Collegiate in mid-June and were told that our driveway would be repaved in August due to a backlog of jobs. When we did not hear from them by early August, my wife called them, and they said that they had tried to call our landline (which they had from sealing our driveway a few years ago), but could not get through. We dropped our landline a couple of years ago, and I had updated our phone numbers when I called them in June. They told my wife that they could pave our driveway on Friday 8/14/15. When they had not arrived by the time I returned home in the mid-afternoon, I called to see if they were still coming. I was told that there was a mix up on the schedule: that we were listed on 9/14/15, not 8/14/15. He apologized and rescheduled our job for Monday 8/17/15. My wife was very upset, because she worked 12-hour night shifts both Thursday and Friday nights and didn't get much sleep during the day on Friday, because she was waiting for them to arrive. She had even called Friday morning and was told that we were on the schedule for Friday. A crew of five workmen arrived in the early afternoon on Monday and completed the job in two hours. They did an excellent job and were very professional. They removed the old asphalt (which was very cracked), smoothed out the base (which had dipped just outside the garage allowing puddles and ice to form), and applied fresh asphalt. If it wasn't for the scheduling and communication mix ups, I would have given them higher ratings. I was very happy with the crew onsite.

Collegiate recently sealed our driveway and I would recommend using them. Due to mother nature (heavy rain on two occasions) they had to come out three times to re-seal the driveway. We were charged a very reasonable fee IMO, and they showed up when they said they would and did a professional job....then a little local storm washed away some of the sealer. They came back out to re-seal again (no questions)...did another good job...then another little pop up storm decided to show up. They were pretty responsive the third time and just finished the third seal at no extra charge. As you can imagine not the best scenario for them as a business, however, they stood behind their work and made it right. Good experience.
The new driveway looks excellent. They did an awesome job. Even my dad commented on what a great job they did and if you knew my dad you would know that is a big compliment in itself. They were very prompt & did the work in the time frame that they told me. They also did a great job with overall clean up. I was afraid that my lawn next to the driveway may be really torn up or I might find pieces of my old driveway still hanging around but that was not the case on either.

This is the second time I have used Collegiate Sealers & Paving to sealcoat the asphalt driveway at my residence. They were easy to schedule (by phone), and arrived within the time window promised. The sealcoating work was both neatly done and very thorough. Asphalt cracks were repaired as described on their website. I've been very pleased with their work and will use them again.

We made an appointment. They had to cancel the first one due to rain (a reasonable action) and rescheduled. I saw them only after they started (they said we didn't need to be home for them to do their work). It looked like they just swept the driveway, but didn't wash it. Many of the DIY sites said you should hose off the driveway to get off any dirt that sweeping didn't remove, and their flyer said they would clean off dirt. They also didn't tape off the lawn, so a little tar got on the grass - maybe one footprint and a little along the edge, so not much. Overall, it looks pretty good. They got a "B" rating (I'd do a B- if I could) for a slightly above average job. It looks pretty good, but I am a little disappointed that "clean dirt" meant just to sweep and not wash, and that there is a little tar on the grass. But for $79 I think it was worth the money.

I was home from a military deployment for a short amount of time and needed to reseal my driveway. I had accomplished this before but didn't know if it was worth my time to just pay for someone to do it for me. I requested quotes and Collegiate immediately came back with a quote for $88. In the request for a quote, I gave them my address. They said they could schedule in five days, so I asked them to come out then. I rearranged my schedule for this service and chose not to do myself, trying to accomplish other tasks before I deployed again. The quote system and scheduling was all accomplished via email (no human interaction). When the crew arrived, they wanted an additional $52. When I submitted my request for a quote, they did not come out, they did not look at google earth, but were more than happy to quote something quickly. I have a house that has one driveway, but share it with a neighbor. Their quote system even discusses split payments with neighbors. Apparently, they miscalculated and wanted more money. I have just one driveway, there is no split and it is unheard of to only seal "half" the driveway as there is no "half" - it is a standard width, it is a few feet longer than others. However, on their website and their quote system, there is no room to indicate whether it is shared. If they would have come to the house to conduct a quote based off survey, or looked at google earth, they would have been able to adequately quote me the real price... at which time I would not have conducted business with them and accomplished myself. I talked to their supervisor and he said the manager was unavailable but would have him call me the next day. I had the crew conduct the service figuring management would stand by their quote. The next day came, and I ended up calling the manager as I didn't get a call. They were aware of the situation but stood by their higher quote. I understand I took the risk of this, and will pay the remaining balance... however, If the original quote wasn't so low, I would not/NOT have had business planned with them. I would have accomplished myself, but now time was running out and five days have passed. I am shocked the president of the company was apprised of the situation and was willing to stand by the higher quote. $52 must mean something significant to them. If they would have waived it, I would be a repeat customer and a strong advocate writing rave reviews and recruiting more customers. Unfortunately, the president's limited view on a dollar in the bank is more important than honest brokering and having a good customer base. I don't expect them to change their mind... even over a measly $52, but this should be reported. Customers beware! Low bidding and improper quotes are used. Your price will likely go up.

(member name), We perform work on shared driveways on a daily basis, it is NOT unheard of to seal half of a shared driveway. When we advertise or quote a price to seal your driveway, the price is for your driveway, not for asphalt on a neighbor's property. Had you mentioned that you share a driveway with your neighbor and asked us whether the $88 covered the asphalt for your neighbor, we would have looked up both accounts and explained that it did not. We do have a "Comments" section on our website's Contact Us page. I am sorry that you thought that the $88 price covered your neighbor's asphalt, but we do not mislead customers with our pricing and I do not feel we did anything wrong in this case. The price discrepancy was explained when the crew arrived, and the correct price was agreed to before we ever started work at your property. There is nothing to "beware" nor is our price "likely to go up" when we seal a driveway. We are an honest company that has been servicing the area since 1988. Collegiate Sealers was very responsive and came out quickly to give us an estimate on digging up and repaving our asphalt driveway. Once confirmed they scheduled us quickly, we didn't even need to be home. They excavated our existing driveway, removed the material and repaved with 3 inches of asphalt. They cleaned up well and did a beautiful job. We are very happy with the work and highly recommend.

They were efficient, on-time and they put on a smooth coat. I thought they needed to use more sealer and thicker sealer. It looks real nice as long as there is nothing wrong, but any little crack it just didn’t go in – it was just too thin. But I don’t have any other problem with their services other than the quality of the material they used. I thought it could have been better and more. I would have paid more for more and better quality sealer. They had a great crew.
