Alterra

Well they come out again as much as you need without having to pay more.

Everything is fine. They come every quarter and if I see ants in between, they come back for free. That is good.

After noticing small bugs in our laundry room, we contacted Alterra (now Terminix) who we have a pest control contract with. We left a message which was not returned. Two days later, we left another message. Again no response. After leaving 5+ messages over the past few weeks with no return phone call, I submitted a complaint to the Better Business Bureau about Alterra/Terminix. We then got a phone call asking to schedule quarterly service but not addressing any of the issues from our numerous voicemails, or even acknowledging the voicemails themselves. We returned their message and again had to leave a voicemail in which we told them to not come service our home and instead to cancel our contract immediately at no cost due to their violation of the contract to provide any level of customer service. To our frustration we then received a phone call AGAIN last week to schedule our quarterly service. Since we were finally speaking to an actual human being, we made it clear that they should not provide service, come onto our property, or bill us for anything. The person on the phone said they would cancel our service immediately. We thought our horrific experience was finally over so you can imagine our surprise when the very next day a notice was left on our door that Alterra had serviced our home and saying that we were being billed $89. As a side note, as I walked around our home after this "service" I saw no change in cobwebs and have actually seen an increase in spiders/bugs since they "provided service". After yet another voicemail left for them expressing our frustration, we then heard from a representative who finally acknowledged our numerous voicemails and blamed their lack of response on them "moving offices." Moving offices or not, they have contracts with their customers to honor which is clearly not a priority to Alterra/Terminix. Finally, I received a note from Terminix regarding our Better Business Bureau report in which they said they had performed the service requested. This was 100% untrue as we have not allowed any Alterra/Terminix representative into our home since this situation began. Now, 3+ weeks after this all began, we received an email from the office in which we were asked (in an incredibly poorly written and hardly understandable email) to contact them in a timely manner to resolve our complaints. The fact that they have the audacity to request us to communicate with them in a timely manner when they have done the complete opposite is infuriating.

It did not help. Their pricing is great, I would say it is the cheapest.

We signed up with Alterra in May of 2015. The cost was $99 for the initial service and $99 per quarter with a year contract. Shortly after the first treatment, we had problems with ants coming into the house. I contacted Alterra and they serviced the house again. Granted they would come out every time I called but their treatments did nothing to control the ant problem. Since starting the service with Alterra, we have had more any problems than any year previously. Even thought they were supposed to come out quarterly, I'm not sure they did come out when they said they did. When I called to cancel the contract, they charged us $100 for canceling out before the year contract. Overall, I feel their treatments were ineffective.

We haven't had much interaction with them. We hired them, and then we went on vacation. We go to our lake house for the winter. They come and treat the outside. I think it is a little pricey. I haven't had any spiders or anything like that so quality is really good.

I pay ahead for the year so per treatment cost would be different. We switched to them from another company about 2 years ago. They immediately took care of the ants not successfully treated by the other company. No problems and no need for indoor treatment. The actual treatment of the wall of the house seems to really work well. We see no pests inside. They seem to put the chemicals where most effective so less is needed.

The price is good. They are responsive to things. Most of the time they come when I'm not here. I guess they come when they say they are going to. They do come on that day. So I guess that they would be punctual.

The first visit took place on 10/1/2015 an a day when it was raining heavily. The rep left a slip of paper on the door stating that they applied Taurus SC (Code 16) around the foundation. I looked up Taurus SC and read the application instructions that stated the product should NOT be applied if rain was expected within 24 hours. Additionally, no de-webbing was performed at all. It was something I specifically checked that morning and when I came home late afternoon when I saw the slip on my door. I was surprised the serviced that day and expected them to reschedule. I immediately called and left a message complaining about the service. I received a call back the next morning asking to schedule a "follow-up" appointment to address the issues. I was told that their scheduling system does not account for weather or reschedule accordingly. So I can't blame the service pro completely. He was probably wondering why he was even out there to begin with. Another service pro came out on 10/9/2015 and treated with three different chemicals (H.J. Bifen Granules, Cy-Kick CS, and Essentria D) and de-webbed appropriately. I was not present for the service. My primarily concern is that they performed these services unchecked. Alterra has no rescheduling capability based on weather and rely on the customer to encounter an issue and schedule a follow-up or "redo" service. I've been with them over a year and the service has been OK. It is a bit better than when I was treating the foundation with Ortho Home Defense, but I still see the occasional ants inside. It's a minor enough issue to spot-treat myself using Terro. If that did not work well then I would call back Alterra. Earlier this year, Alterra offered a discount if you rated them and the service professional on Yelp. I just needed to list the name of the rep and make sure my first name, last initial, and city was listed. The service pros were friendly and helpful. But no such discount came through. But the breach in trust over the 10/1 service was enough. I plan on discontinuing the service and shop for a new company. It's was time to reassess anyway.

We have been clients of Alterra for more than two years. We have an annual contract ($89. per quarter) and they come regularly without our needing to schedule service to provide exterior treatments. If there is ever any need for additional service, including inside the house, they respond very promptly to schedule a mutually-agreeable time. Our most recent contact was with Brandon who was very thorough. In addition to treating both the kitchen and one bathroom for ants, he offered suggestions for further environmentally-friendly things we could do to reduce both the ant and the mosquito problems. We live on in heavily-treed area, backing up to parkland with a stream running through the property. Great company, good eco practices, friendly, professional and helpful employees -- what more could we ask for???

So I was looking at all of the Angie's list reviews on Alterra because I have been a customer of theirs for 2 years now. All of the F reviews don't even talk about the service but the door to door sales reps. Yes, the sales rep was kind of pushy but he is a sales rep and I needed pest control. I had previously tried Terminix, Orkin, and Moxie and they all got rid of the bugs on the inside but trying to get them all to come back was a pain. Alterra knocked my door June of 2013 and I decided to give them a shot. They are another pest control provider but from my experiences they are the best I have had. They do the inside, outside of the home and the whole yard. I had the normal sugar ants and occasional spiders in the basement and they got rid of them. They even got rid of the mice that I had during the winter. They get out here on time and do a good job. I have been satisfied with them and I recommend them to anyone who isn't satisfied with their current pest providers.

The company has been harassing the neighborhood for the past 3 days.

I told them the type of contract that I wanted and they told me to write it into the contract. I did so, and I paid them a year's fee for the pest control service and they have not paid any attention to my special requests. I'm just about to fire them and they are going to take a big part of the payment I gave them because they stated you can't cancel in the middle of the year. I asked them to give me 3 days notice before they come out. They give me a minimum amount of notice like 1 day, hoping that I won't be home and they can just treat the outside of the home and not have to treat the inside. I have a problem with squirrels and mice in my attic. They placed a trap up there and I asked them to check the trap each time they come, but they refuse to go up there and check it. I complained about this and they were extremely dismissive to me. They shouldn't have sold me a policy if they didn't intend to do what I need them to do.My most recent receipt is from October 2014. It seems like I may have just fallen off their list and they refuse to send me a refund for the remainder of my year's payment.

I would recommend people use another bug spraying company--not Alterra. They signed me up for their 12 month contract by ringing my doorbell and soliciting my business, which is not allowed in my neighborhood. The first service wasn't performed on time and made me miss work. Then after 2 services, I had to hire another company to spray because my bugs have never been so bad. They of course said they will have to charge me the $100 cancellation fee. I told the customer rep that I didn't think they were actually providing a bug spraying service and they must be spraying water on the outside of my house or something. She told me if I didn't pay it would be sent to a collection agency.

so far so good. Since then I've only seen 2 ants and they weren't moving. The man came early and was done before the scheduled time.

We have been using Alterra for over a year. They are responsive and provide the service we contract them for. They respond within an acceptable time frame if services are needed due to seasonal pests showing up in our home.

The staff is always friendly and courteous. Dramatic reduction in the number of creepy crawlies in the basement!

Our last "service" on our contract was supposedly on 5/15/14 at 9:09PM. Somehow the receipt was already on our door at 8:45PM. If they did come, they sprayed in the pouring rain (we got 4" of rain that day) and in the dark. This was the last straw. I called on Friday 5/16 and was told a manager would call me back no later than 3PM on Friday. I didn't get a call. Called back on Monday 5/19 (they aren't open on the weekends) and was told a manager would call me back at an undefined time because all of the managers were out. I just want a refund at this point. Called back Monday 5/19 in the afternoon and was told "managers are in the field and won't be back in the office for several WEEKS." I have been lied to several times by this company and all they have to offer is to send someone back out to spray again. Honestly any company that will not have a manager available for several weeks should be avoided at all costs. Stay FAR FAR away.

They are a new company that is trying to get it's act together. Their computer system breaks down sometimes, but I will continue to use them.

I switched from another company after the Alterra door-to-door sales person gave me the hard sell. Previous company (Orkin) was fine, but I was willing to try another company and save a little money in the process. I didn't have a horrible experience but ants in my master bath that had been under control with my previous company came back with a vengeance with Alterra. I have had them come back several times in between quarterly visits to try to do something about the ants. My one year contract will be up soon and I plan to try another company.

Never preformed any of the follow up service but lied about it. Also a weird thing was they left a note in my door with a bug wrapped in it.

I can't say I noticed much difference. Of course, mosquitoes are flying pests, so killing them at one spot does not help much, but still, if that is just impossible why even offer such a service. They got my husband to sign a repeat service contract, which was not our initial intention, and any company that tries to sell you what you have not asked for makes me doubtful. Another issue was timeliness. It seems like it always takes them a couple tries to get to us, TWO of which was a totally ridiculous case when we wait for them (they were supposed to be at our house between 8 and 11), and when we call them they say they've been there. We open the door and discover a note stuck to it saying we were not home. It was 8 am, the car was in the driveway, and we were all awake. We have a very small house and a dog that barks when someone is on premises, so I have no idea how that could possibly happen, but we didn't hear them knock, and I sure think they could have called us if we're not opening the door when we're supposed to. And then they were sending us bills for those times! Now that we're finally done with our contracted visits (a couple of which took place in winter, when there are no bugs around anyway), we won't deal with them again.

It did not turn out very good. As soon as I am done with our current contract I am never using them again. I had to have them come out several times to redo the application because they basically are a pest prevention company for bugs and all that. They first approached me, because they did it not on Angie's List, but door-to-door. They told me their work was satisfaction guaranteed, but when I tried to cancel it because I was not satisfied they told me I was locked into four applications. Otherwise I was going to have to pay an early termination fee. I recommend that providers like this not be included on Angie's List. The initial application was $39 then each additional application is $100. I do not like not being able to cancel out of the contract without paying a penalty. They are very responsive when they want to collect their money. There was only one time that they treated inside.

The Alterra service agreement is a scam at best. After the initial visit I placed multiple phone calls to the company to schedule my second appointment which was missed on two occasions. I finally called to inform the company they had voided their own service contract and that I wished to terminate service. The next month charges began to show up on my credit card for services not performed. When I called Alterra to dispute the charges I was told I had received a second service visit, interestingly enough, one day after my call to terminate. My credit card company blocked further charges and disputed the expenses on my behalf. The lesson my end is to never purchase anything being sold door to door.

It did not go well. I eventually signed up after high sales pitch at my front door. When I checked Angie's list before signing up I did not find any negative reviews. I now know that is because they were new to the area. Overall, I saw no improvement in my pest problem, but the techicians were nice enough. At the end of my contract, I received a bill for pest service even though I was not left a notice on my door like all the times before. I contacted my neighbor who had the same service, and they indicated they received a bill, but no notice either. So, I refused to pay for the final service because there was no proof. I called the office, but did not receive a return call. Soon thereafter, I received about 5 emails per week indicating I needed to pay my invoice (appeared to be automated). I followed up on the phone several times, but consistently received the run around and still no proof that the service was performed. The last time a spoke to the manager he indicated he would cancel my service, and that would be the end of it. However, I recently received a collection notice for $90 from a debt collector. Again I called Alterra, and they indicated I was lucky because they could have charged me $199 for canceling my service. Now I am again awaiting a call back to have this issue resolved. Whatever you do, ask them to leave when they randomly show up to your door. They will do the hard sell, but you will have an awful experience with this company. Update: Alterra called me to indicate they resolved my issue, and removed me from collections. Their staff is polite, but there appears to be some communication issues. However, in the end the issue was resolved so I am happy.
