Sky High Services LLC

Charles Hackney of Sky High Services LLC was hired to repair a HVAC unit in a rental townhome I own in Centreville, VA in August of 2012. My husband is military and we reside in GA. The tenets called me and said there was water pooling on the floor of the basement. Charles Hackney (Chuck) was recommended by a plumber who said it was coming from the HVAC unit. Chuck replaced a coil in it and charged me $1000 (in cash, he said he didn't accept any other form of payment). A week later the water appeared again- this time he said it was a blockage on the exterior of the home. He said he could fix it, and since it was an emergency, as the house had no running water he started immediately. He gave me a verbal estimate of $4,500-$6,000 over the phone and got to work. He wound up charging me $6,600 and DESTROYED the entire yard and part of the neighbors yard. He refused to clean up the mess he made and I had to pay a landscaper $1000 to clean up after him. The EXACT SAME issue reappeared less than 5 MONTHS LATER! I fought tooth and nail with him to honor his "one year warranty" work he provided and he refused to do it. I did some digging and research (becoming an educated consumer) and found out- he didn't compact any of the dirt (even though he dug 14 feet down!), didn't secure the pipe in any way after the repair (which is why it got crushed AGAIN), didn't follow Fairfax County Code, did not pull a permit, and is not EVEN LICENSED TO DO THE REPAIR HE DID!!). I had to pay hundreds of dollars for my tenets to stay in hotels for almost 3 WEEKS while trying to get him to fix his sub-par repair, and to fix it RIGHT- with a Fairfax County Inspector and a PERMIT. I finally had to hire another company to fix the problem Sky High had created. **AME is an AMAZING company!! (Apple Mountain Engineers) They charged me $6,800 to pull the permit, do the work to code, have it inspected, grate and tamper the dirt every 2 feet during backfill, and seed and straw the property TWICE** Charles Hackney and Sky High Services are under investigation by the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations and are being sued in Fairfax County General District Court for the damages they have caused. It has been almost a year since I first hired Sky High and between the cost of the two repairs, court costs, landscaping fees, hotel costs, loss of rent, and everything else I've had to put money into for this issue, I am nearing $16,000 in the hole over this ordeal. DO NOT HIRE SKY HIGH SERVICES LLC OR CHARLES HACKNEY JR for ANYTHING! I don't want to see this happen to anyone else :((( Do your research (check BBB, DPOR, Fairfax County Consumer Affairs and other websites for information about these companies). I was not an educated consumer and I'm STILL paying for it for trusting the wrong person!

They're really good. They have a good response time. I don't like to pay anything to have my air-conditioner repair because I think it's awfully expensive but they were quick and very courteous. I would definitely recommend them to other people.
