Carmack Moving & Storage

My experience with Carmack was fantastic. From my first contact with their sales rep, Michael, everything went smoothly. Michael was very responsive, honest, and helpful. I had never hired professional movers before, so I didn't know the process, but I felt I could trust Carmack from the beginning. Carmack was able to fit me into the schedule on short notice (less than 10 days). The crew of 4 arrived on time and were all very friendly and helpful. They went to work immediately and had everything on the truck in about 45 minutes. They made it to Baltimore in about an hour and a half (on a Friday morning in the rain...pretty good time) and they unloaded the truck in about 45 minutes as well. They were very efficient! I am very happy with the services provided and would use Carmack again in a heartbeat.

That was actually quite disastrous. The numbers they gave me on the estimate were not the numbers that happened in actuality and so that I very much disliked. In the middle of the job they said we needed to have additional movers come, so that was a surprise and I disliked that. They did not pack up anything that was not boxed or even like large trash cans or duffle bags and all kinds of things they said needed to be boxed which is not true for moving companies. Talking about the extra people they said that because it was such a cold day that played into it and I don't see how weather means you need to double the amount of staff numbers, so that was difficult. It was not a good experience. If it wasn't in a box then they wouldn't take it, so we ended up having to move a lot of stuff ourselves even though we hired professional movers because they refused to move that kind of stuff and I could not believe it. They were on time.

The crew was unbelievably hard working, thorough, and careful. They packed the truck, then drove it to NC and unloaded it for a door - to - door move. I highly recommend this company for any moving you need.

Working with Carmack began well with a competitive estimate, scheduling, and contract finalization. Carmack deferred the pack date by a day, from a Sat to a Sun, which I thought was to my advantage - to have a little more time organize items and prepacked boxes before the pack and load, but in hindsight I'm not so sure. The packers arrived on time and I walked them through the spaces pointing out items that should not be packed. It was not long after packing began that chaos began to take over. With 3-4 packers, in a smaller house it became impossible to keep an eye on each space resulting in items I had specifically asked to not be packed, being packed by the packers including fine art, trash, and items for donation. I'm not even sure the apparent supervisors communicated what I had said in our walk through to the packers. It was clear to me that the packers wanted to finish the job as fast as possible with little care for my possessions. In addition to the indiscriminate grabbing of objects to pack, this was driven home by observing books being thrown into a box across the room from the shelf and the failure to use any padding between a steel hand cart and painted steel file cabinets. The packers didn't finish packing and loading on Sunday, leaving mid afternoon. They said they would return the following morning, indicating that they would bring another truck so they could back up to my garage for loading since a tree branch blocked the big truck. I was not told and little did I know that this other truck would cost me an extra $500 (I considered the branch their oversight since I had walked their rep through all areas and access ways when they came to review the job for an estimate) I had even offered to use my pickup to run boxes to the truck. My items arrived during the agreed time frame but while I had been told Carmack employees would do the unloading, the only employee was the driver. Two local day laborers did the actual unloading. My already troubled sense of the care given to my possessions was only reinforced when the doors of the van opened and unpacking began. In addition to the clear view of much heavier items being on top of lighter less supportive ones - during the unloading I observed crushed heavy duty storage bins, the crushed lid of my chest freezer, and a leg broken off a side table. As I began to unpack and unwrap additional damage and loss revealed itself. Most prominently is a missing back cushion to the sofa in my living room, serving as a daily reminder of my unpleasant experience with Carmack. Having found cushions in boxes from other rooms I searched every box to no avail. Being from Mitchell Gold + Bod Williams, the sofa is not inexpensive and replacement of the cushion is not one-for-one since the current color of the fabric is not exactly the same. There were additional signs that my possessions were treated with little care, from shattered jars of homemade jelly to my best suit being balled up in the top of a wardrobe box. I have filed a claim in late April 2016 for just over $2500 for damages and am waiting since they have 120 days to settle.

It went as planned. They moved a couple of large, special items (grandfather clock, antique desk, several large framed art items), in addition to many heavy and bulky ones (sofa bed, cartons of heavy books) with efficiency and care. We were impressed and pleased with the result. An entire household move with relatively little fuss.

Everything went perfectly. They wrapped the wood furniture so it would not get scratched. Nothing was broken. The support staff was responsive and supportative. The actual movers were on time and extremely efficient. I found these people through Angie's List and could not have been happier with this choice of movers!

crew arrived late but more than made up for it with quick, professional service. price was adjusted accordingly. quote was accurate as well as time it took to move everything. phone booking was easy, problems solved, questions answered timely. truck and gear were all new and in great shape. I would definitely use them again.

Carmack was great! Debbie, our moving coordinator, was AWESOME! Really. Ask for her, she is incredibly knowledgeable, ( I *think* she has been in the business for over 25 years) fun, on top of all the details, responsive and a pleasure with whom to work! She even gave me a quick education on all the moving terms, policies and state laws concerning intra state moving, this really helped us compare "apple to apples" when it came to looking at pricing proposals. Their pricing ended up being very reasonable and beat most (if not all) of their competitors. Ours was a complex move as we had belongings in three different locations to all be moved to another city a couple hours away, so it was a three day move. Celso was the head of our moving crew, he was great! All the guys on the crew were also great and polite and HARD WORKING!. There were a few dings to walls and belongings, this is an unfortunate part of ANY move, no matter who you hire. It happens, deal with it, repaint that little spot and move on. We had one major hiccup with our move that involved some valuable, antique easels. We ordered special crates to be built for them but the crates were the wrong size and the easels were broken in the move- pretty upsetting since we paid extra for the special crating. Carmack were absolute stars about making things right! I think we were very reasonable about the situation and they agreed with our assessment and covered the costs for fixing the easels. It should be noted that they did not drag their feet on this or make us jump through lots of hoops but had a check out within the week! We were really impressed. Things happen during a move, how a company deals with those issues is the real mark of who they are. We were very happy with Carmack, would use them again and would definitely recommend them to our friends. Thank you Carmack! We have moved several times, it is never fun, but you made it an overall good experience!

Move was on a rainy day I was concerned about tracking mud into old and new home. Carmack provided mats to protect everything. Move was completed professionally with no issues

Carmack was excellent. Fantastic customer service..they were friendly and reasonable to deal with. Also very responsive given the incredibly busy time period of the move. They were professional, only required a reasonable deposit, and allowed it to be paid via credit card (NOTE, allowing payment via credit card is a sign of a company that stands behind their product--a lesson a friend learned elsewhere the hard way). There was a little hiccup with getting to the destination in a reasonable time; it appeared the drivers didn't map out the route or were confused. In any event, Carmack was pleasant to deal with in reducing the total to account for the delay. They were incredibly quick but also very respectful of all interior spaces as well as furniture and boxes. Nothing was broken! They worked extremely hard nonstop. I feel they saved me money by working so hard. The rate was actually really affordable for the level of work and quality. I opted for the insurance, which is why it was a little more, but definitely didn't need it. Next move, I am without question going with Carmack.

From the timely and friendly estimate to the last minute change in delivery, Carmack made our move effortless. Their crew worked quickly in unloading a single family home, with over 100 boxes and another 100 non-boxed items. They even created shelving in the truck for some of our hunting trophies. They were very careful with packing it all in, securely and tightly. The only thing that would have been even more helpful was faster confirmation of shipping and arrival time in Florida. It seemed no one could tell us exactly when our items would arrive in Florida. Not having more than 48hr notice made it difficult to plan for some quick home renovations in our new home. Ultimately, we asked them to delay the delivery and they were very flexible and helpful but we did pay a small additional fee for the delay (which we probably could have avoided if we had earlier confirmation of arrival of the items). It was one aspect of the move that was a little frustrating but overall a very successful move and would highly recommend them again. They shipped us an item (a small tv) that they had forgotten to deliver off their truck (and we had forgotten about completely!).

I had recently retired and was moving from Alexandria, VA to a small town in WV. This was a very stressful time for me. However, Carmack made the move much easier for me. Debbie Gass, who packed me, was incredibly organized and very careful of all items to be packed including 2 china cabinets!! She was very personable and was prompt and really knew how to get the job done. I really wanted to make the move in one day and Carmack made it happen. Ernesto and his crew arrived promptly at 8 a.m. and had me loaded on the truck before noon and I was in my new place and unloaded by 5 p.m. that same day and I moved 130 miles away.. They were so professional, friendly and organized and made this one of the less stressful and easier moves that I have ever made. I would HIGHLY recommend Carmack to anyone whether moving across country or local. The office staff was great and made that one day move for me. I have had no damage to anything and my furniture etc. was wrapped and protected. Kudos to Carmack for a great move!!!

Carmack is great! Mike met us at our townhouse a couple weeks prior to the move and scoped out what we had to move and gave us some tips on packing and what kind of boxes to buy. On the day of the move the team showed up right on time and got to work. They had half of our house packed up in under an hour and we were completely packed within two hours - amazing. We made a stop at storage and they unloaded what was staying in about 30 mins. We then headed out to Ashburn and they hoofed it up 3 flights to our tiny temporary apartment and had us moved in within an hour. They also helped us out by unloading a bunch of stuff that my husband and I had in our cars so we wouldn't have to. They were quick and efficient and we came in well under the estimated time and amount Mike gave us. We will definitely be using them again for our final move to our new home later this year.

It appeared that everything was going smoothly, however, when I needed to leave the house for a few minutes due to unforeseen circumstances, I believe this is when the movers decided to go through some boxes. There was nothing in any of the drawers and closets at the "old" house. I found out when we unpacked at the "new" house that I was missing a lot of things, mostly kitchen items and some were of great value (over $400). Within a few days of unpacking everything, I told Carmack that I was missing a few boxes. The insurance that I paid for in case of damage helped a bit, but there is a $250 deductible, so after the deductible I am still out money and no items. Gee Thanks!!

The movers did an excellent job on both ends of the project. Everything was done very competently and in a timely manner. Ernesto and his crew were very cooperative, didn't damage anything, and successfully followed detailed directions from me in terms of the placement of furniture items and boxes on the move back into the house. My main office contact, Debbie, was always very responsive in terms of scheduling the moves. I would characterize Carmack as a mid-range company in terms of price, neither the most or least expensive I contacted.

Guys were very punctual, loaded everything very quickly and unloaded and set up at destination with not delays.

The packing crew arrived bright and early on time and did an excellent job. They came back the next morning an hour before the truck arrived to finish. Once the truck and the rest of the crew arrived they did an excellent and highly professional job of systematic inventory and loading, including putting our Toyota Corolla on the truck, included in the price! They also provided a cleaning crew, competitively priced, who did a totally fabulous job with the final cleanup. They left on time, and arrived at our new location in California right on time with no hiccups. I'm totally impressed with the way they maneuvered that huge rig in and out of our development which was a really tight fit... no shuttling necessary. All in all, it was a great move. I HIGHLY recommend Carmack, especially for long distance moves! They are easy to deal with, very professional, and gave us the best quote out of all movers we interviewed with no hidden costs. I'm really impressed!

This was a very professional and yet pleasant company to deal with from the first contact to the last. Their communications were excellent -- I could always reach a human being who was always helpful; if they did not have the answer at their fingertips, they got back to you quickly with an answer that satisfied, a rare event in this auto-mucked up customer service world of telephone trees and computerized voices with all the wrong choices and answers! I have move with a full family over 20 times within the US and abroad including to the middle east. This is my first long distance move as a singleton. It was done on time, with the sole exception that the window of delivery was longer than I had expected, but that is perhaps my fault; I thought I had made it clear that I needed delivery two days after final pickup; the window was up to 5 days. It turned out not to be a problem, and the same driver who picked me up (Salzo aka "Spicey") was fun to deal with and on top of things; he basically worked his a.. off along with the other two, and delivered on time and with minimum of fuss. Complaints (more or less par for the course, but one exception): when packing fragile items, too many things were stuffed in the same box. Oddly, none broke, but it was lucky. Two items did break, but along earlier fault lines and were easily glued back together. The exception was a Schwinn Aerodyne Exercise Bike, something you would think to be indestructible. Somehow, probably because they laid it on its side instead of standing it up in the truck, they managed to seize up the mechanism, in effect tightening the drive belt and chain to a point where it would not turn rendering the bike useless. I had assembled it myself, and could not figure out how to fix it. A local shop repaired it, however, using special tools, and it is back in working order. It cost $91 or so to fix, but Carmack stepped up and sent me a check to cover that cost. (I believe I did have the full coverage option.) But, the ops chief, Rob, never gave me a hard time about it even though they never did offer an answer as to what they might have done to cause the damage. The check arrived today and closes all my few issues. I would happily recommend them again to anyone making a similar move.

Everything went smoothly. Highly recommended. Showed up on time both days. Packers (3 man crew) did a great job with fragile items. Hit their estimate exactly. The load and unload crew (6 men) worked hard to get us done in a single day. The new house has a challenging staircase. Everything went exactly where we wanted it.

They did an excellent job - from sales all the way through to final delivery. The price was very fair but what made it really great was the professionalism of the driver and loading/unloading team.

The unloading went perfectly. The two movers unloaded a full 16 ft moving truck in under 2 hours, they also helped us with a washer and dryer, moving out the old ones and moving in the new ones. We had not issues, no broken furniture, kitchen ware, or art! We also worked with Bryce in the sales department and Victoria did all the paper work. I love the fact they are all on line. This is the third time in using Carmack, and they are my go to moving companiy!

Debbie provided the best priced estimate of all the regular moving companies that gave estimates. Although I did not use their services, I would definitely recommend them. Debbie was great! She was straight forward, very professional, and very personable. Due to the economic factors involved, I decided to use a "moving pod" method which hopefully will save me money.

After much juggling of schedules on both our parts we finally resolved the damage claim for the move. It was a simple cabinetry repair which I had expected and in fact Carmack's head of operations came to our apartment to do the work himself, which we were impressed with. Kudos to Carmack!

The movers were very good. They arrived on time, wrapped the furniture in plastic film and promptly loaded it on The truck and moved to our new place. Nothing was damaged.
