Trademasters did a full home inspection on a house we're purchasing in the Alexandria area. Paul S. spent about 3.5 hours going over the house (inside and out) in detail, walking us through what he saw, any concerns he had, and where something was done really well. He was patient and very knowledgeable and took the time to answer all (and there were a ton) of our questions. We were very happy with his services, although he did arrive about an hour late. I’ve given a rating of “A” even though he was running behind because he was so thorough and because he took the time to make sure that we understood what he was doing, what he saw, and what the effect of that might be.

Thanks for the Review, it was great meeting you and helping you to understand your new home. Unfortunately, traffic in the DC area puts me behind sometimes, I apologize for my tardiness. I hope you've been enjoying your new home.

On a referral from our real estate agent, we used Paul for inspecting our new home. We were more than impressed with Paul's knowledge and thoroughness of a home inspection. Paul allowed us to tag along in every aspect of the inspection. He took time and taught us things every home owner should know. With each default discovered he backed it up with pictures. He stayed on sight and completed his report turning it over to us immediately. He spent approx six hours on the inspection which is time above and beyond normal inspections. It is apparent, Paul loves what he does. Just a note to say this was not my first home inspection. Update: After working with Paul, we realized he charged us more than the norm for home inspections. He also did not return calls or "close the loop" following the initial work. We will not use Paul or Trade Master again, and would like to warn others as well.
Description of Work: Home inspection prior to final closing.

Two months into a one month job, he (Paul Scrivner) just quit showing up. He had 80% of the money and had done maybe 60% of the work. He emailed us to say he had badly underestimated the job and could only complete it if we fronted more money for materials. No way that was going to happen. Because we knew Paul and thought we could trust him, we were already in way too deep. And it wasn't over; a week or two later a sub-contractor showed up with an unpaid invoice in hand. We have no idea what he was doing with our money... we can only imagine. Had we been a bit more diligent, we would have found out that Paul already had a Chapter 7 bankruptcy and had been sued for $30k + for failing to complete another job. It is all a matter of record with the Virginia Contractor's Board.

We bought the house and the former owners just painted over the rotted wood on the porch. At one point we had something leaning against the end of the porch and it fell into flower bed. We had Paul come out and totally replace our front porch. He did excellent work and is a man of integrity. His work is top quality.

The experience was not a good one. He was a subcontractor for Ferebee Construction. For the time I met with him and got the plans it was a good 4 weeks. The communication was not great and did not return calls quickly. Paul Scrivner was referred to me by Ferebee Construction and the plans had to be redrawn. I cannot say for sure if the new contractor could not work with them, but I had to pay for new plans. The new contractor could not work off them. Not going to say if they were not drawn correctly but I had to get a new plan. He took the permit out for Ferebee to do the work, but denied any responsible work from them once the did not do the work correctly.
Description of Work: Drew up the plans for the remolding.
