I set up an appointment for an estimate on a approx 250 sq. foot deck and 250 sq foot paver patio. I had to drive an hour to met Josh and my new house underconstruction. He showed up on time and seemed quite professional. He took measurements, did a drawing of the proposed layout and had a portfolio with him of previous work. Waited for 2 weeks and called to inquire about the estimate. Josh told me he ahd the estimate done and would e-mail it to me. Waited a weeka dn called back. Josh was in his car and would e-mail me the estimate when he returned to the office. Never heard from him again. After 2 phone calls I was not calling back a 3rd time. I guess they are busy enough they don't need to work. Not very impressed with them.

They said that they don't do that kind of job and they recommended someone to do the work and we are using them now. So far we are satisfied with the guy they recommended. They said that they would be too expensive and recommended a smaller company. I liked what they provided. We would definitely use them in the future.

Very well planned and executed. Owner and architect met with me numerous times before and during work. Crew arrived on time every day and finished as promised on time.

They came right on to get the estimate done, but their price was a bit higher than the other company. They seemed to be very responsive because we had a couple of other contractors and some of them never showed up.

I contacted Deckscapes for an estimate through Angie's List's email option. They did not reply, and since this was my first time trying this method of contacting a company, I wasn't sure they had recieved my request. Over a week later, I called to inquire about it. The lady I spoke with on the phone was professional and polite. She told me that she had been planning to call me that day to find out if my request had been responded to. She set up an appointment with her son, Josh, to come and look at the job and give me an estimate. Josh met me at the appointed time, was dressed professionally, brought a portfolio of photos of Deckscape's work. He had good suggestions for how to handle the job. Our meeting took a little over an hour (two hours for me, because of commuting). I told him that we needed to get the job completed as soon as possible because we can't move in to the house until we have the wheelchair accessable walkway completed. He told me he'd be going on vacation over the weekend and would like to get me the estimate by that Friday. He asked me to email a copy of the plat of our home, which I did. Because of the professionalism he and his mom displayed, I felt good about hiring him unless his estimate was out of line. Unfortunately, I never got to find that out. He did not contact me by Friday. On Monday, I called the cell phone number listed on his card to find out if he had an estimate ready. Someone else answered and said that they would have him call back later in the day. He never got back with me. I wasted a lot of time looking them up, checking out their credentials, emailing, calling, driving, and meeting with them. It would have been nice if they had simply told me that they couldn't do the job. If they had, I would probably have considered them for other work in the future, because they sound professional and look professional. As it is, I would not recommend wasting your time with a company whose professionalism didn't include following through.

It went well. They gave me a proposal, did it just like the proposal said and came when they said they would. It passed the county inspection and everything went fine. Their price was one of the lower prices. It took them 5 days from the time they tore the old one down to building the new one. It was hand made, each part was custom cut. .

We obtained 3 bids; Deckscapes and another companys bids were almost identical. We choose Deckscapes because we saw a portfolio of their work and liked what we saw. We got bids only from companies highly rated by Angie's List. The process was relatively stress free. We are very happy with the results.

Our initial contact with Deckscapes was via e-mail. They indicated that this type of job was much smaller than they usually do but would be glad to give us an estimate. Within a few days, Kevin from Deckscapes stopped by and gave us a full estimate for what we wanted to do, provided us with some very valuable design suggestions, and worked with us to come to a good solution. The day after we met with Kevin he called us to say that Deckscapes had drawn up a complete set of plans and submitted them to the county (Fauquier) for a building permit. He said it would be about 10 days to get the permit. Exactly 10 business days later he called to say the plans were approved and that they would call within two weeks to schedule a start date. One week later (on a Friday), Deckscapes called to schedule the work to start the following Monday. The crew showed up on time on Monday morning. The old deck was down within two hours. Deckscapes delivered a trailer so that all the debris could be loaded and properly disposed of. The new deck was completed within the 3 day estimate originally given to us by Kevin. The quality of workmanship, the professionalism of the crew, and the care given to our property exceeded all of our expectations. I can not speak highly enough about the company, the crew, and the result. I feel that even though this might have been a small job for Deckscapes that they treated us and our new deck like it was one of their large premier jobs. I am extremely happy with our choice of Deckscapes to do our deck and would certainly recommend them.

We selected Deckscapes because their original presentation gave us a very clear picture of what we were getting and what it would cost. They stayed in touch and work began promptly after all the necessary permits and premissions were received. Despite challenging weather, the work went on as close to schedule as possible. The crew was highly professional and clearly very skilled. There was great attention to detail.

We are very pleased. We had a number of estimates, many of which were pretty close to each other. Josh's estimate was not the very lowest but his presentation emphasized some of the finishing work they did and they had the nicest solution to the required lights on the steps. = The new deck is lovely; they spent 3 days to remove the old one, build the new one and clean up everything. Several of the crew were the same for the entire 3 days. We were impressed with the crew; they were meticulous and pleasant to have around. We had a deadline on when we needed the deck completed as we were going to be out of the country, and Deckscapes worked with us to complete everything well before our deadline. The only problems we had were several times with communicating. After Josh came buy to talk with us, he indicated he would e-mail an estimate by the middle of the next week. A week later when we had heard nothing, I e-mailed him, giving him our e-mail address again to be sure he had the correct one. Two days later we got an e-mail from him apologizing that he had just realized he sent the estimate to the wrong e-mail address, this e-mail to the wrong address was sent after my reminder e-mail. Then, after we had signed the contracts, we had a phone call from the office clarifying when we needed the deck completed. We had no further contact from Deckscapes until one morning we woke up to pounding, to find our deck being demolished. No one had called to tell us that the work would be starting that day. Luckily they had the right house and were not demolishing someone else's deck. After the deck was completed, Josh came by for the final check. We told him how pleased we were but we did have a concern: the old deck had been flush against the house and siding had subsequently been installed around the railing. Now, there were two places of exposed old wood siding that needed to be patched. Josh agreed to have someone come and do a patch within 2 days (would have been Friday). No one came; no one called. Monday I called and left a message for him. Tuesday I had had no response, so I called his cell phone and spoke with him. He apologized, took responsibility and said it would be done within the next two days. It was done, although the worker who did it was not given sufficient material to complete the job, and he had to obtain (on his own I think) material and come back and do it another day. He did a great job; the patch is nicer than I had hoped. I think all we needed was a little more responsiveness and professionalism. All in all we are very happy with the deck and the work the crew did.

Josh came to our house the day after contacting him, listened to our ideas for the deck-patio project, showed us materials & pictures of prior jobs, and discussed materials & "the look" of the deck. He gave us the name & address of a resident in our own community who had recently had him build a similar deck so we could see. He returned with architectural drawings, showed us exactly where the deck & patio would be & listened to us re: increasing the size. He returned with final plans & then provided duplicate copies for our HOA. He even attended the modifications committee meeting with us in case of questions and was at our home keeping watch over the progress. He & his foreman were always available if questions. The workmanship is top-notch. The design is striking! The crews for deck & patio were excellent craftsmen, very pleasant & professional. Each day they left the job site in our backyard with all tools put away & no rubbish (only the decking materials). Highly recommend!

Very well. We are very satisfied with the company. The crew arrived as expected and put in a full day's work until the job was completed. Each evening they cleaned up the work space thoroughly.
