Louis & Associates, LLC is a structural engineering consulting firm in Burke, VA since 2000. Luyi (Louis) Yan, the president and principal structural engineer, holds PE licenses in VA, MD, and DC with BS & MS degree in structural and civil engineering majors, and is the member of ASCE and NCEES. Mr. Yan had been a lead engineer in top national design firms, such as, Bechtel and PB. He has broad engineering knowledge and 25 years+ hands-on design experience in wood, masonry, steel, and concrete structures. He is familiar with current building codes, and local government's requirements for application of building permits. Louis & Associates, LLC and its long term associates would like to provide a full service of design including architecture, structural, and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing). Louis & Associates provides following services: -Structural analysis, design, AutoCAD drafting, and building inspection/evaluation -Including residential, commercial, industrial, restaurants, schools, governmental and religious buildings -Review, approve and seal structural drawings designed by others; -Building-code compliance analysis for building permit applications; -Building renovation/expansion design: add a new addition, pup-up, attic, dormer, stair, garage, deck and sunroom, finish basement and remove existing load-bearing walls and columns; -Structural damage investigation and repairing design, such as foundation settlement, retaining failure, basement wall/floor slab cracking, floor vibration/sagging, damages caused by falling trees, fire, snow, wind and reckless construction, etc. -Retaining wall and foundation underpinning design, -Light-gauge steel (LGS) framing and insulated concrete form (ICF) wall system design -Structural evaluation and repairing design for floor sagging, wall tilting and cracking, foundation settlement, structural damages caused by water, fire, snow, wind, seismic, overloading, and reckless construction.

It went very well
Description of Work: My house was under contract when a huge crack appeared on the wall. The buyer wanted a structural analysis. Loui came out promptly and we went to settlement on time! He was very helpful.

Mr. Yon was very professional and included every detail in his inspection and report.
Description of Work: Mr. Yan arrived on time even though he had at least 2 other appointments before mine and one after mine. He was very professional but explained everything in terms I could understand. He was extremely thorough. He promised to have my written report to me in 2 days. He inspected every inch of the main floor and took notes as he went along. He had equipment to help him inspect the atic. With this equipment he was able to feel and see the truss that had been cut. He took photos which he will complete in his report.

We are extremely happy with Luyi's work. He was very thorough and patient with all the questions that we had. Additionally, he was super knowledgeable and was able to relate all his technical knowledge to us in simple terms and diagrams that we could understand. I would highly recommend hiring Luyi if you have need of any structural inspection work.
Description of Work: We had a sagging concrete slab in our home. We decided to hire a structural engineer to determine what the cause of this sagging was and what additional structural issues there may be in the house. Luyi came out to the property, took measurements, tested the leveling of various rooms, checked the grading/drainage of the backyard. He provided us with a throrough written report of the issues in the home as well as recommendations and sketches on how to rectify the problem.

Wow is all I can say. He was punctual, professional, thorough, helpful and friendly. Mr. Yan inspected a home for my client that had termite damage. He was very user friendly! He explained possible causes for structural defects, took pictures, drew sketches, and will put together a report complete with recommendations for the home seller. Really comes off as a smart guy and a class act. Someone who knows what they are doing, works hard, follows up, and charges reasonably,,,in this day and age? Really a find-I will be taking Mr. Yan with me to all my future home inspections!

Mr. Yan was a couple of moments early and arrived at our door right on time. He came inside, inspected the area of concern, took measurements and asked to see our basement (which supports the room in question). He is friendly, professional and described the structure & support of our entire house going room to room explaining what was behind the walls. He gave us lots of feedback about common issues and things that seem to be issues but really aren't (ie., small cracks caused by poor taping of drywall). He gives easy to understand descriptions accompanied by these great, quick sketches that help illustrate his explanations. I really appreciated how patiently he handled all the questions we asked. We asked him to examine a small part of our floor and over an hour later we were wrapping up a comprehensive discussion of our house. I really appreciate his opinions and I trust his advice. We no longer have any structural questions about our house but if we ever need drawings/designs or advice about how to add on or alter our house, Mr. Yan is who we will call.
Description of Work: We found Mr. Yan on another service provider after looking in a variety of places for structural engineers. We needed a structural engineer to inspect a slight slope in the corner of one of our bedrooms, where there was a small gap in the flooring. Our home inspector was a little concerned the flooring may be pointing to a structural problem. After contacting multiple people we hired Mr. Yan because he was incredibly thorough over the phone (he spent a long time patiently explaining his services and answering a lot of our questions before we even hired him) and unlike many people we spoke to he has multiple degrees (BS and MS) in structural/civil engineering.
