BLR Mobile

Last summer BLR did an outstanding job of giving my lawnmower a complete tune-up and blade sharpening. I took my machine over to them while they were set up at the Burke Nursery. I even donated another lawnmower to them for their Veteran's Charity. I called a last Wednesday (26 September 2018), using the phone number that was on the sticker they put on the lawnmower from last summer. Left a detailed message on their voice mail and so far they have not returned or made any attempt to contact me back with a simply yea or nay that they can performed the work.

I sent an e-mail (their preferred method of contact) to BLR with all of the information they requested on their website. I received an auto e-mail back asking me to send them exactly what I had just sent them in my first e-mail. After several days of no response, I sent another e-mail with the pertinent details again. Again, no response from BLR. They might be great at fixing lawnmower's, but they don't seem to be at answering their mail. Too bad, because I was really excited to try their service.

Everything went well. The company set up my appointment via e-mail. They offered me several appointments and I chose the one most convenient. They were right on time and performed the work/maintenance on my machine in the garage. The snow thrower is now in excellent running condition.

I tried calling BLR's telephone number and got a message stating they have a new business model which requires an email to them with certain information filled in. I sent them an email on 3 Nov with required information and got an automated email response, advising me to send an email with required info -- which I had. I sent another email on 5 Nov, same automated response. I have never heard back from them. I live within there service radius and have answering service on my telephone, but, again, never heard back. The good news is I bought my snow blower which needs repair at Home Depot. I found out they have a rental center in Fairfax on Old Lee Highway where they do repairs. I brought the snowblower to them (I would have preferred having the door-to-door service to avoid moving the 24 inch snowblower.. Note, I have nothing against BLR, but I find it unacceptable for a business to fail to contact a prospective customer.

My first experience with Burke Lawnmower Repair (now BLR) was stellar (see review on Google). I had been told by another company that my 1 year old snow blower could not be fixed, however, BLR got it running and it is still purring like a kitten. With that said, my last two experiences have been on a downward spiral. I called BLR to have my generator worked on. The generator is located 2 hours away at Lake Anna (used to power boat hoist). I needed it repaired quickly as the boat mechanic had been notified to winterize the boats and I didn't know when they would come out. Ernesto told me that if I could get it back to my home in Springfield before COB on 10/4 that they might be able to come out. Otherwise it would have to be squeezed in as the upcoming week was their inventory. I told him that I doubted that I could get back that early on Saturday. I was also told to send an email for service scheduling since they no longer have a storefront (work out of their vehicles). As expected, I wasn't able to get back before COB so I sent an email request for service. I followed up with several phone calls over the next several days. It is now 3 weeks later and I still haven't heard from anyone at BLR. Eventually, I did an Angie?s List lookup and found Caliber Lawn and Garden. Dropped it off in the morning. Picked it up in the afternoon. Repair/service only cost $55 and the generator is running beautifully. Ben Franklin once said "It takes many good deeds to build a good reputation, and only one bad one to lose it." BLR, in my opinion, has lost its reputation. Do yourself a favor and find someone else.

It went really well. We called in with the details of the machine to be repaired, scheduled the appointment, and the repair professional (Tim) showed up, inspected, and repair the snow thrower right on on our driveway. The whole thing took about an hour. Tim was courteous, professional, and gave us tips on how to maintain the machine so we wouldn't have the same problem again. The only thing I would say could have been better is that the person that set up the appointment gave us a window for arrival that wasn't possible for the driver, so it would have been nice if they called within that window (as opposed to 45min. passed it) to let us know of the delay. We understand things happen with schedule but communication is good practice in any business. Even still, I would definitely hire them again. They seem to know their stuff and did a good job!

Mid-year our mower would not start. We contacted BLR Mobile on a Monday and they had technicians at our home the next afternoon. The technicians arrived exactly on time. Two technicians worked for an hour diagnosing, repairing, cleaning, blade sharpening, and testing the mower. They explained what they were doing and why. They explained the probable cause. They explained how to minimize the chance of having this kind of problem again. The cost was about $150. All-in-all, I cannot imagine a better service experience.

We were very happy with them and it went well. They were very efficient and did good work.

After he serviced the two generators I went to try them the next day and neither of them worked. I have been trying to call and I havent been able to contact the service provider.

The tech was well-mannered, knowledgable, and answered all my questions. Excellent service. Highly recommend.

With the snow already falling, I needed a place to reseat the bead on my snow blower tire. Their service was quick, but I think $20 to inflate a tire was a bit much. I didn't complain, because the service was fast. Still, for the work done, the price should've been a bit lower.

The mower wouldn't run before I took it in, but it ran like new after they finished. Their service was excellent and prompt. I had replaced the oil and air filter, and they checked them and did not try to charge me for the same things again. Outstanding service.

Repair work is first class. Very happy with the results. Burke Lawn Mower and Small Engine Repair does great work and gave me the impression that they do a fairly heavy volume of business. My only advice to other customers is to follow up on your repair. They were not good at getting back to me. I feel as long as you know that going in and don't set the expectation that they will call you back with the status of your repair, you will not be dissapointed. They do very good work and I'd use them again.

Clean and adjustment was OK. But the drive wheel fix didn't last 2 weeks. Don't work now.

They did a fine job of sharpening the mower's blades and repairing its engine for a fair price. However, the owner didn't seem to be interested in addressing the issues with its rear drive shaft which was disappointing. My guess is that this was primarily due to the fact that he had limited time, skills, and space available.

Did a terrific job on the old tiller--works perfectly now. My mower just needed a few simple tune-up items after 3 years of use--works great!

Went well. Lawn mower was never promised to be fixed by a certain date but was fixed in four days. Works fine. However, cost almost half the purchase price.

Very professional, friendly service. They cleaned out the fuel system and replaced the fuel filter. Also sharpened the blades, so now it mows like a new mower. Very happy with their service.

Burke's Repair took the item in and listened carefully to my descriptor of current and longer term problems I have had with the machine. (My primary long-term complaint was that it was hard to start and frequently needed to operated with the choke on.) The management was very prompt in calling me back with an estimate. Additionally, they recommended having a completely new carburetor procured and installed to resolve the starting and choke issue. They were very quick in both procuring the parts and completing the work - notwithstanding it being in the midst of their busiest season! The machine has operated flawlessly since I picked it up. The price was higher than I had expected but the quality of the work more than compensated for the cost I incurred. I will certainly use Burke's Repair again in the future.

UPDATE: Raising from a C to a B grade. After using this company twice now for lawn mower repair/weed wacker repair, it seems that the pricing is pretty good but the lead time is tough to overcome. Lawnmower is looked at (no service performed) and blade sharpened in a full week. Weedwacker was looked at but no service performed in 2 weeks. Got a phone call about the lawnmower but no communication about the weedwacker until I called them. Over the phone the owner (I believe) seems to be really busy and quick with me (multiple occasions). In person the staff takes their time and educates me on what I should be aware of. That's awesome and the reason I'll be back.

Good to go. Would not use anyone else. Professional and new what he was doing.

Mr. Johnson operates out of a shopping center parking lot where his shop was located before he "retired." He shows up there on a regular biweekly schedule to pick up and drop off repaired equipment. He works at home with no overhead for a shop and says he has more business than ever. Mr. Johnson's estimate was lower than others I received, and his Angie's List rating convinced me to give him a try. He discovered that the mower blade was bent, and replaced it at a minimal cost. In short, when I picked up my lawnmower it looked like new and it works better than it has for years. I will take my lawnmower to Mr. Johnson as long as he is in the business.

They did very good work. I just wish they did it faster. But no complaints about the quality.

Very professional; left mower for tune up and they said they would call with an estimate within 48 hours; received call back within 24 hours; gave detailed list of what had to be done with price and said that would call when ready, which would be within a week. Mower was ready in 3 days. When I picked up mower, I brought in 2 pair of pruning shears they needed to be sharpened. Rather than drop off and have to pick up, they did this work while I waited and it was done within 15 minutes at very reasonable price.
