JES Foundation Repair

The service went well, they did a very professional job and we were happy. They were pretty reliabiable with telling us what we could expect. The work they did has made a big difference.

My experience with JES was a mostly positive one. I was less than impressed with the communication and professionalism of the salesman with whom I worked, Pat; however, everyone else (the receptionists, foreman, and laborers) were fantastic. I'd do business with them again provided I was able to work with a different salesperson.

It has been 4 years since we first contracted with JES to encapsulate our crawl spaces. At the time, I wrote a fair review based on the appearance of the crawl spaces. Since that time, we have had mice and broken humidifiers. At first, JES agreed to replace the humidifier and asked me to modify my review in 2014. After the second dehumifidier stopped working this year, we again noticed a large colony of mice and mold. We have now had three real encapsulation services look at the crawl spaces and give us their assessment. Bottom line, JES may be good at basement sealing, but they have no business holding themselves out as a crawl space encapsulation service. To name a few of the improper practices, they did not seal the crawlspace (including the vents), they improperly installed insulation on the crawl space subfloors rather than installing wallboard insulation, and the humidifier was improperly installed. I am also informed that they used Home Depot grade vapor barriers (meaning less than 8 mil) and did not provide a proper overlay between the sheets (e,g, on foot overlay). I could go on, but you should not contract with JES to do a crawl space encapsulation. We now have to contract with a real encapsulation company to remove everything and do it properly.

JES used a resin foam to raise the slab to its original position. They guarantee that the foundation will be stable for five years.

I scheduled a time for them to come and give me a quote. I took time off from work to meet the estimator and waited 1 hour and 30 minutes before he called me to let me know that he is running late. At this point, I already left to go back to work and I did not want to conduct further business with JES.

The estimator laid out how much each part of the project would cost. However, there was an extremely nebulous $1,000+ for miscellaneous fees. That immediately raised a red flag for me. The crawlspace area was relatively small. This $1000 fee was roughly 1/3 of the total proposal. Not surprisingly when I inquired about this charge, no one answered.

I am still truly happy with their work.

Scott came on time and was very professional. He examined every section of my unfinished basement, took measurements of the water retention levels in the walls, and explained JES' process thoroughly. There was no "hard sell" or pressure.

Very, very well. Help a lot in controlling mold there and in the house.

After numerous emails and calls to the manassas office i was given more excuses than i could handle. I finally emailed the owner and within 2 weeks they returned my full deposit. I never did get a straight answer as to why they indefinitely delayed my job. Perhaps "overbooking" or more profitable jobs come first. Either way i will spend the rest of my life warning perspective JES customers to never do business with them. They're complete incompetence and lack of professionalism have placed me well into winter worrying if my wall will collapse. I am currently getting estimates from other company's and my story appears to be common knowledge inside the industry. STAY AWAY FROM JES!

Paid premium rates because I wanted professional service and results with no games, stress, or questions. It was my highest estimate by over $4,000. I was extremely disappointed with the process, communication, lying managers, poor quality workmanship, and zero attention to detail. I've hired many contractors over many years and many homes, and I have never been this frustrated and disappointed with a contractor. After the initial performance indicators, I started paying attention. Work performed that was easily visible from the crawlspace entrance was typically of decent quality, but work outside of direct eyesight was poor quality, cut corners, or was missed. I assume that most homeowners are unlikely to crawl under the house to inspect. I recorded most phone calls and conversations with the work crews, had hundreds of pictures, video, and emails to prove how poor the work was performed. I provided pictures to my home inspector and a previous builder and they were shocked at the obvious neglect and poor quality workmanship. Twice I was asked to sign an iPad to agree that the work was completed PRIOR to the final permit inspection. Unbelievable. If I ever had to deal with JES again, I would demand the written contract include: 1. A manager on site during all active work periods. 2. A daily work report with pictures of work accomplished. 3. A detailed and itemized work list and associated cost (during the initial inspection and estimate numbers were provided, after JES failed to perform the work, numbers were a "sliding scale that was difficult to determine cost of a specific line item") 4. A final inspection and work approval by the initial inspector/estimator, the manager, and the Foreman. 5. Agreement that if JES, doesn't show up on a day they scheduled, JES will pay for the lost Vacation time. 6. Agreement that if JES shows up on an unscheduled day without notifying the homeowner that they will leave without entering the property ('I figured you wouldn't mind') 7. Agreement that the manager would inspect each stage of the work performed and sign his name and reputation to the quality. 8. Agreement that all construction debris would be removed (not hidden under the steps of my deck). 9. Agreement that prior to placing insulation on the crawlspace floor, a reasonable effort would be made to level the dirt or remove debris, so insulation panels are not sticking up in the air or balancing on a cinder block. 10. Agreement that wall insulation panels would have spray insulation or tape added between connecting boards prior to cleanspace install, and agreement that any insulation removed from the exterior wall (RIM Joist?) would be reinstalled. 11. Agreement that any electrical line that has fallen to the crawlspace floor would be reattached to the joists, or the homeowner notified so corrective action could be taken, rather than cutting a hole for the line to stick out of the cleanspace plastic. I could go on and on. I was prepared to take our issue to arbitration, but I didn't have the time to continue. JES never admitted to their mistakes and lies but agreed to lower the invoice. My final assessment if you're still with me: JES has good workers and knowledgeable Foreman. They have an extremely difficult job, and generally have positive attitudes and work ethic and I have significant respect for the work assignments they accept each day. I feel they are encouraged to cut corners, hide mistakes, and rush jobs because the JES management team overlooks them, leaves them short handed, jumps them from job to job, and fails to support them in the field and inspect their work. Good people are rushing through jobs, and JES either allows it or encourages it. I would rather repaint my house with a blow-torch before contacting JES management to resolve an issue.

Be VERY CAREFUL with this company. They contracted to complete several repair/rebuild projects upon my basement, with a finish date of OVER SIX MONTHS AGO. About 1/4 of the work has been completed so far, and the quality of several repairs is shoddy and careless (one example, the PVC outflow pipes attached to the sump pump extend only about 12" from the exterior of the foundation, meaning that water that will be pumped out of the basement will be deposited right back up against the cellar wall, rather than 6 or 8 feet AWAY from the foundation). There has been property damage, inability to handle municipal permits, and an astounding level of non-responsiveness. If you decide to hire this company I would strongly recommend that you construct your contract with them with extremely clear and specific timelines/deadlines, and ensure that you are protected by language which stipulates that JES will accept responsibility for property damage.

They were very efficient and professional.

JES lifted and stabilized the addition to our garage (we call it "the hut") the foundation of which had settled, causing the addition to begin to pull away from the garage/house. JES removed two 4-foot boxwood plants (replanting both, one in a different location at my request, when they were finished with the stabilization). They had to excavate to solid ground - approximately 7' down - to place their equipment at the base of the hut's foundation and then lifted the hut 1" to close the gap, and installed 5 foundation piers. The JES employees were courteous and informative. They laid plastic to prevent the excavated soil from ruining the grass and brick sidewalk. Several "points" in the hut's brick wall were installed for ease in determining that the hut remains level.

We're very satisfied. We've already recommended them to people.

My cracks are not settling cracks there is a clear break in foundation outside causing the cracks and uneven floor not allowing my doors to close.

JES inspected the void, showed me how they would fill it gave me a complete work-up, including cost and schedule up front. Everyone at JES knows their business and they are all absolute professionals, well above and beyond my expectations. When Alex Pastella and Sean Hook showed up exactly on time to do the work, my wife and I were confident the job would be done right. We were impressed when they knocked on the door in just 45 minutes and showed us the results. Alex showed us the finished product and explained how the JES 5 year warranty worked. Having talked with friends who are going through costly basement repairs now, the $1,500 paid for this repair is an excellent investment, highly recommend calling JES if you have any questions or concerns about your foundation.

They never showed but called the next day and said they were going to come out in the morning to do the survey. They came out and did a complete, outstanding job. More than made up for the problems before

They were very thorough and gave me a total review of the house structure. They are to provide me with a quote and seem very fair and extremely knowledgeable.

All employees of JES that we dealt with were very professional. Mike Kut gave a great explanation/overview of the process when he came out to provide an estimate. Communication from the office staff (Heather and Sidney) was great, timelines were accurate. The workmen (Demetrius, Matt, Jared, Alex) were polite, prompt and neat. The work was done quickly, with minimal interruption of my day. The guys used drop cloths and plastic sheeting to minimize the dust and mess outside the immediate work area

JES waterproof system was installed to protect my home from incoming water. A trench was dug around the perimeter, inside the basement, along the walls. A flexible drain pipe with gravel, covered with cement, was install to catch any water to enter the foundation. This water management systems will intercept and direct any water that enters the foundation into a sub pump well. The sub pump will disburse the water out of the well through a PVC Pipe and away from the home. JES installed multiple push piers around our house and created a drainage system in our crawl space to alleviate a water issue compromising the structure of our house. From the very beginning all the way through the completion of the work, JES was professional and courteous. We were very pleased with the work that Brian and his team did on our house. I would highly recommend JES and especially Brian to anyone who needs foundation repair or crawl space drainage work done. Brian and his team did great work stabilizing our house, making reasonable recommendations, as well as cleaning up at the end of the day. Brian always took the time to field all of our questions, cared about the quality of work that he put out, and really took an interest in helping us. While dealing with the unwelcome headache of foundation issues, we were glad that we decided to go with JES in the end.

I contacted JES for a Crawlspace Encapsulation Quote along with several other companies. There quote was more than double that of their competitors. The salesperson was unable to articulate the reason for the higher quote. At least part of the discrepancy was due to guessing the number of vents (10) rather than counting them (4). Even so, there is no way encapsulating a crawlspace should cost this kind of money. It really feels like they are taking advantage of people who don't know to get multiple quotes...and wasting the time of those of us who do.
