Very good experience overall. Workers showed up on time both days they were in the house, did their work, cleaned up. Very polite and professional. Communication could have been a little better as far as planning and coordinating, but it all worked out. Quality was very good overall. The price seemed to be in line with what one can expect to pay. I would recommend Hall's to anyone needing drywall service.

It went great. The person who did the estimate as well as the person who did the work were prompt and professional. The person doing the work took care to protect the surrounding area from drywall dust and paint. The ceiling looks beautiful.
Description of Work: There was a leak in the roof that damaged drywall on the ceiling. Halls repaired the drywall and repainted.

The quality of the work was disappointing to say the least. They had to redo the ceiling repair twice before it was acceptable. The prep work prior to painting was hit or miss at best. I found holes that were not patched during the course of the repairs and had them fix those, but still found more after the repairs were completed. I will have to have the corner drywall repair done again as it cracked. There is a stain on the shelf of a closet that is still visible. The corners where the ceiling and walls meet were not taped so there is ceiling paint on the wall and wall paint on the ceiling. The door they replaced was done very poorly and if I were not selling the house I would install a new door myself. They painted the inside of the door they repaired with the paint from the living room which is not the color of the bedroom. I did not have the time or inclination to do the repairs which is why I decided to hire someone. Unfortunately, that was a mistake. They were punctual, cleaned up at the end of each day, were considerate of our time schedule and the owner was nice enough but in the end it's the quality of work that matters and it was definitely not up to my standards.
Description of Work: They were hired to repair a hole in the ceiling of one room, repair the drywall on the inside corner of another room. Replace one bedroom door and repair another bedroom door. Then paint the ceiling and walls of a dining room, hall, staircase, upper hallway and hallway side of doors.

Response from Hall's Drywall & Painting
WoW - I'm Rick the owner of Hall's Drywall. I hate to even respond to people who no matter what, you can't make happy, but we did do work on his house, so here we go. (member name removed) called for an estimate. I sent my estimator out to do it. We got the job, no problem, no issues. Then, the day before we were to start, they let us know that we could not start until 9am. We said that would be fine. We show up at 9am and as we are working, they let us know we have to leave by 3pm because they have to pick their son up from school. So for the whole job, my guys could only work from 9am to 3pm. We did that every day until the job was over. Everything was fine the whole time we worked on their home. No complaints, no issues. After the job was complete, we walked the house with (member name removed), and she was happy. She let us know her husband had the checkbook and he would pay us. We were having trouble getting that check, and received a call back stating that (name removed) was not happy with the work. My foreman returned to fix anything (name removed) had a problem with, and even fixed extra stuff that was not on the scope of work, just to make him happy. At that time we thought he was satisfied, and we had no indication of any problem. Then months after we are done, we get this review. If you look at all of our reviews, we do our best for 100% satisfaction. This is the first bad review from a customer we have completed work for. I'm sorry you were not happy, (name removed). As the owner I believe we did everything possible to satisfy you. I'm sorry it was not good enough.

I had water damage on my ceilings from leaks from the two condo units above me. Halls Drywall and Painting covered the water damage and repainted the ceilings in my unit. They were prompt in giving me an estimate and in returning to do the work. The workmen were courteous and efficient. They covered all surfaces before starting their work so there was little cleanup when they left. I was pleased with their work and will use them again.

Overall, the entire project went very well. Rick came out and looked things over and emailed an estimate to me about 5 days later. I had some additional questions and asked for specifics on some of the items (being the wife, I had more questions than what my husband would have had, but I was the one handling this project), so Rick and I had several email exchanges back and forth. He always responded to my emails. I expressed to Rick that I wanted top quality work and wanted it done right the first time (which is what lead me to turn to Angie's List in the first place). After about 2 weeks, we got the job scheduled. Yesterday the guys came and spent the day, getting the majority of the work done. They came back again today for a couple hours to finish the drywall sanding, priming and/or painting. What I got was just what I had asked for - top quality work which was done right the first time! The guys focused on their work and were also pleasant and professional. We will be getting our floors replaced (another company) in the near future, and after that are looking forward to having Hall's Drywall and Painting back again for some additional minor kitchen work and to get the full kitchen painted.
Description of Work: We had a water leak from our refrigerator line which caused significant damage. A couple months ago, a cleaning crew came and tore out sections of flooring from our kitchen and adjoining dining room, and cut out sections of drywall from our kitchen and dining room walls, as well as a larger section (approx. 10' X 8') from our basement ceiling below. The services performed by Hall's Drywall and Painting included further cut-out of drywall as necessary, then replacing, finishing, and sanding it for all three rooms. The finished drywall was also primed, and the basement ceiling was painted too (entire kitchen and dining room to be painted at a later time). I also asked that several nails be removed from nearby walls, which was done, and the nail holes were repaired. Rick also noticed some "nail pops" in the basement ceiling at the time of the estimate, and they were also repaired. In addition, we had a tall cabinet in the kitchen that leaned forward at the top, and Rick agreed that they could adjust and shim it to set against the wall properly again, which they did do.

Rick is completely incompetent. Starting out his voicemail was full so I sent him an email to communicate my interest in having some drywall and painting done. It took several days to get a response at which time we scheduled an estimate appointment. The appointment was scheduled for Wednesday February 27th at 7:30am, which was also confirmed by email. To my surprise Rick showed up Tuesday morning at 7:35am at which time I could not accommodate since I was leaving for a meeting in DC, which was scheduled at 9:30am. So on Wednesday morning I waited until 8am with no sign of Rick and decided to give him a call. When he answered he said he didn't think he was scheduled since he had our appointment written down for Tuesday, although he replied to the appointment confirmation email I sent which clearly states Wednesday. The moral of the story here is if you are busy professional and/or value your time don't call Rick. This was a huge disappointment. I have used 3-4 other service providers that were highly recommended on Angie's List and they have always been wonderful to do business with. Rick and Halls Drywall and Painting get a huge "F" from me. I am moving on to find a dependable and professional drywall and painting company. I have the email communication showing Ricks incompetency and lack of professionalism. If he were a good businessman he would have went home pulled up the email we had used to communicate details of our appointment and then made things right by showing up when he was scheduled. I understand we are all human and make mistakes but Rick just keeps on going with little common curtesy for others.

I called and a fellow showed up for an estimate for painting and drywall work (foyer ceiling, stairwell, laundry room, bedroom) in a prompt manner. As he and I walked through the home, I started asking detailed questions regarding how they do their prep work and his eyes grew large when I told him that I expected two coats of paint, calking on crown moulding, taking down recessed lighting plastic cups, etc. He then gave be a ballpark figure (I assume due to actually doing proper prep work?) twice that I would expect as compaired to another estimate for the same work. But I didn't take that too serously as he was likely not the person who made the actual estimate. The worker told me that I would receive a written estimate in a day or two. Days passed I and still did not receive an estimate so I called and left a voicemail on the owner's phone that I had spoken to him in the beginning. My call was not returned. I again called a couple of times and again the messages were not returned. Although there are many positive reviews on this site, there are quite a few negative ones involving unprofessional conduct in Hall's Drywall & Painting. This is another. I find it very unprofessional and unethical for a contractor to repededly ignore attempts from a customer to contact them. If this is the disservice and business ethic that they show potential cusomters then just imagine how they will react to a job that needs fixing or problems with their crew. I also have an ideal that they are not the best pick for detailed, professional painting and drywall repair if proper prep work concerns them that much.

Our great room ceiling had been bowing and then actually started to separate along a drywall seam and it looked like the whole thing would cave in. Rick responded very quickly to my inquiry and made a prompt appointment to review the great room and other ceilings. He was very pleasant, friendly, and knowledgeable. He made some guesses about how the original work had been done that turned out to be correct. I felt that he was being very honest in that he told me which rooms should be done right away, which ones could be patched, and which ones were probably fine as is. I want to reiterate this point because I don't really know that much about this stuff so it would have been easy for him to insist everything should be fully redone. This kind of trusted advice is one of the key reasons I will stick with Rick for future work. Finally, he gave me a sensible price that he was willing to explain in detail, scheduled the work at my convenience when I was out of town, and then we came home to a perfect ceiling and no other trace that it had been a work site. Rick even bailed me out when our dog sitter let us down and took pity on my poor little pets! I can't recommend Rick highly enough and will use him regularly in the future.

I called to get an estimate over the phone the week of Christmas. They were prompt in getting back to me. They were also able to do the work the following week. I needed a quick turn around because I was having another contractor do the painting, and the holes needed to be repaired by then. I had their first morning appointment, and the person who repaired my drywall was there about 10 minutes early which was perfect as I needed to get to work. He said he would take about four hours. I dropped back by at lunch, and he was finishing up. All the patch work looked good. It was all sanded and ready for painting. They also cleaned up their work; so, there was not a mess of dust on the floor.

Contacted the company and received a prompt response giving multiple possible appointment times. Mr. Hall arrived on time and talked with me at length about the project, giving several ideas. He sent a proposal for the project when he said he would, and it was in line with other estimates that I had received. He was also responsive to follow-up questions. Although I went a different direction, I would not hesitate to recommend this company for potential work.

There was minor difficulty getting in touch and getting an estimate, but some of the stemmed from the fact that it was the week before Thanksgiving. However, they were nice enough to move another client's scheduled work to accommodate me (the other client was very flexible). The crew that performed the work was very professional and did an amazing job keeping things clean. I've done some minor drywall work myself and always make a mess, but these guys did major repair work and left no discernible dust or mess. The painting was done well with copious drop cloths to catch any drips. They were even nice enough to touch up the wall paint along the crown moulding since I had some extra on hand (this was not in the estimate).

Update 2: Hall's came to my house on a Saturday morning and spent a good half of the day redoing the bathroom ceiling that was cracking. The problem was identified as the first coat not having been allowed to dry thoroughly enough before applying the next coat. The supervisor who came to my home was very polite, apologetic for the issues we'd had, and wanted to me sure the problem was fully resolved. The ceiling was successfully repainted, and, so far, so good! They also touched up a small section of the wall near the floor that had been unfinished the first time they were here. It feels good to see our bathroom looking nice and freshly painted without any cracks. Update 1: I left a message on 11/7 and received a call back that evening to schedule someone to come take a look at the issue with the ceiling. Also got a phone call on 11/8 apologizing for the disconnect in communication; apparently, they'd recently been having trouble with voicemails and phone service, and they had gotten my previous email. Very polite and making an effort to make sure my issue is addressed. Original Review: Don't bother trying to reach this company via email - it's a nightmare. I prefer to do business via email so I have records of everything in writing, and because I'm very busy and often do not answer my phone, so I tend to communicate via email very late at night or on weekends (outside of normal business hours). When I finally did get in touch with them via phone, they provided a fair estimate for the work and followed up with an emailed quote. I tried multiple times responding to the emailed quote to schedule the work and never got a response. Again, email was worthless - have to call them. We were able to schedule the work, and I was told they had a morning job the day we scheduled for, so they would arrive later in the morning around 11am-noon. They did not arrive until between 2-3pm. There were three men there to do the work, and they seemed polite enough, though only one of them talked to me. They painted both rooms within a few hours, collected payment, and left. Upon first glance, the work seemed fine. That night, I had more time to inspect the bathrooms and found a few things I did not appreciate. First, a few spots on the edges were a little sloppy, so there is some paint on the edges of a few tiles. They did not remove any fixtures (such as lights, towel rods, etc.), but rather just painted around them, which, to me, is lazy. I had to scrape a drop of paint off of one of my bathtubs and clean a lot of dust out of both bathtubs (they had sanded during surface prep). But the worst of it is that THAT NIGHT, I noticed a small crack in the ceiling paint in one of the bathrooms where the paint appeared to begin peeling. I was already frustrated with them and knew I would have to find the time in my own busy schedule to call them since they don't ever respond to email, so my husband and I decided to just let it go, and we'd try to sand and repaint that one spot ourselves. Now, about a month after the initial work, there are multiple such small cracks/peeling areas on that one bathroom's ceiling. I don't know if they didn't prep the surface well enough or prime well enough or what, but the other bathroom does not seem to have this same issue despite having used the same materials (since I provided the primer and paint). I, of course, emailed them about this continuing issue days ago and have not gotten any kind of response, so I'm trying to find a time during business hours to call them to see if there is anything they can/will do for us about this. Otherwise, I may have to pay someone else to redo that bathroom ceiling. I will update this review with any new developments.

Impossible to get in touch with.
Description of Work: It is nearly impoosible to reach this company. We were looking for quotes for drywall repair and painting and saw that Hall's had great reviews. We first attempted to request an appointment for an estimate via the email address listed on their website. After hearing nothing back for over a week we tried another email requesting an appointment for a quote. Another week went by and still no contact. The email listed is an aol.com address and may no longer be valid. So we called the number listed on the website and they answered right away. We set up an appointment for the morning of 10/22/12. Unfortunately we had a death in the family and had to leave town and would be unable to make our appointment. I began calling the number on the website again 24 hours before our appointment was scheduled to let them know what happened and attempt to reschedule. I called 5 times that day and 4 out of five times the phone just kept ringing with no answer or voicemail. On the fifth call I finally got the voicemail and left a message saying we wouldn't be able to make the appointment and requesting to reschedule. I never heard anything back and kept calling over the next few days even on the day of the funeral. Finally three days later and another four or five calls into it, we gave up. Their work may be good, but what good is that if you can never reach them.

After getting in touch with Mr. Hall, we made an apointment. He was right on time. He did a total inspection and gave us a fair price.
