This review is long overdue, since we had Lloyd's move us from one state to another in June 2017, but better late than never. First of all, whoever is in charge of hiring at Lloyd's should get a gold star. Everyone we dealt with - from Reuben the salesman who came out to do our inventory and provide us with a bid, to the packers, to the moving teams, to Joe the office manager/claims guy - were unfailingly pleasant, efficient, and professional. Reuben painstakingly reviewed everything with us, because I told him we'd had a bad moving experience before. When our move schedule changed during their busiest season, Reuben somehow pulled a rabbit out of his hat and accommodated us. The packers were on time and never lost their good mood and careful approach during DAYS of brutal packing. The movers who packed us up had non-stop energy during the all day process of getting our goods onto the trucks. The delivery movers were incredible, even with some unexpected challenges. The driver walked over a MILE in blistering heat to our home in a gated community to get the gate code so the trucks could make our delivery (the office had forgotten to give it to them, along with our cell numbers - their office had been incredibly efficient up until then, so this was a one-off glitch, from our perspective). The delivery crew worked in that same blistering heat to unload all of our household goods They never lost their good humor and care for our items, even though both our entrances required them to use stairs, and one of them required them to walk up a gravel road on a steep incline to get to the other entrance (before encountering more stairs). Joe the office manager/claims guy could not have been more patient and professional with me, and took time to walk me through the ins and outs of their claims process. Lloyds was not the cheapest bid we had for our move, but they were also not the most expensive. I can't imagine that we would've gotten better service, even if we'd gone with one of the more expensive companies (there were two). I wouldn't hesitate to use them again, if I was still in their service area.

We found Lloyd’s on Angie’s List and they got a good review. After meeting several moving companies, we decided to go with Lloyd’s because they seemed like the best choice. One of their top selling features is that they had 4 movers instead of 3. We did not realize that the 4th mover was only a driver, very misleading. He stayed in the truck for 13 hours and waited on the movers to finish. Apparently, he’s not supposed to help move. What a waste of manpower. Why do they need a separate driver? Couldn’t one of the movers be the driver? We lived in 2 over 2 condo which means that our unit is on top of another unit with 2 stories. We have to climb 3 flights of stairs just to get to our living space. When we moved into the place, it took 5 guys to move everything in and our stuff was in storage so they just had to move our things only once-into the condo. When we moved out of the condo to a house, the moving company neglected to tell the movers that we were in a condo and the amount of stairs we had. Joe one of the managers confirmed that Gerald never put it on the paperwork. The three movers thought it was a house to house move. They were not prepared for the stairs. So not only did they have to move our things out of the condo, but also move into our house on the same day using only 3 men. One of the guys was a new guy. So… the day started out late. They were supposed to start at 8:00 a.m. but they didn’t get started until 10:30 a.m. Then instead of bringing a moving truck, they brought a U-Haul. Of course, all of our things did not fit in the U-Haul so they had to make 2 trips and they said themselves that we didn’t have that much to move. Gerald assured us that the truck would be big enough to make one trip. Thank goodness, we moved all the pictures and some breakables ourselves. Their regular truck broke down so they had to use a U-Haul which was filthy! We were told to keep everything in the drawers because it helps the drawers stay in place. When the movers got here, the first thing they did was take all the drawers out with all of our underwear and clothes loose in the drawers. If I knew they were going to do that, I would have packed them all. Thank goodness, they did not spill the clothes from all of our drawers (we had 3 dressers). They started to move our things which took forever because they were so exhausted, I don’t blame them this was purely managements fault. When they finally made it to the house, many things were coming out of the truck damaged. Our things were broken, dented, or stained. I understand things happen when you move, but the amount of things that was damaged was unreal. Most of our furniture was dented, stained, or bent at the corners. The truck had a black tar like dirt all over it and it got on everything. Our new storage ottoman that took forever to find had dirt and burned tire marks from the hand-truck all over the microfiber fabric because they didn’t bother to wrap the furniture as the move went on. They broke the handle on our brand-new shampoo vacuum that we only used once. Now it looks so ghetto because we have to use zip tie to hold it together. Our white office desk, chair, and daybed was stained, ripped, or bent at the corners and edges. It was getting dark by the time they unloaded the first load. We knew they were exhausted so my husband gave them the option to finish the next day. They refused and said that they had to finish that day. They left around 8:00 p.m. to go back to get the second load. When they came back, it was dark and all the bugs were out and they were letting all the bugs come in our house. The ceiling was covered with bugs by the time they were done. On top of all this, my 2-year-old son was trying to sleep with all the door ringing from going in and out of the doors since we had a security system, and the noise of them moving in. By the end of the night, they were just beat and were not being careful. They were dropping and breaking things. They dented and scraped our brand new hard wood floors, made a huge scratch on our hardwood stair landing, banged up our walls, and damaged most of our things. They even damaged the few things they wrapped with the blankets such as 2 stainless steel automatic trash cans. We fixed the walls ourselves, but we couldn’t fix the hardwood floors. One guy broke our son’s dresser right in front of me and all he could say was, “Well, need to put that on the claim form,” very nonchalantly. Dishes and vases were broken and fragile boxes were not handled with care and at one point placed upside down. They used a moving truck belt buckle that was supposed to be used to hold furniture in place to move our things into the house and they would just drop it on our hard wood floor and dented it. Later we found out that it was the U-Haul’s belt and they were not supposed to use it to move things. After the second trip, they didn’t even cover the floor. They were so over it at this point. So, we contacted the company while all this was happening and we did not hear from them for 3 days. You would think they would call us first thing on monday to rectify the situation, but no word from management. My husband had to call them and seek them out. When he finally got a hold of them, they said they knew about it, but didn’t bother to call back. He finally talked to Joe, their manager, and all he could say was I’m sorry. He also billed us for $200 more than what we were supposed to pay. Thank goodness, my husband is stayed on top of it and corrected him. He wasn’t trying to be dishonest, but should be more competent. They sent us a claim form but there was no follow up and no attempt to fix the damages. They said they would try to repair the floor, but would not commit to replacing them. You could not repair the broken hardwood, it had to be replaced. They told us to ask our builders to fix the floors. Now we have to file out a claims form after Gerald suggested that we don’t take out insurance because their guys do not damage things. The customer service was poor and needs lots of improvement. Overall, it was the worst moving experience we’ve had and we moved plenty of times. Spend a little extra money and go with a reputable company with better customer service and Lloyds when you trash someones house do something about it. At least send someone out to look at the damage and assure them it will be taken care of. An, "I'm sorry" on the phone is just insulting... you all should really be ashamed of yourselves, mostly Joe and Gerald.

I called Lloyd's this morning and got service from them within a couple of hours. Two cordial, professional employees arrived promptly and moved the armoire carefully around a tight corner at the top of the stairs to the second floor; saving my husband and I several trips to the chiropractor. It seemed a little pricey for just a few minutes of work, but well worth it for us and probably fair considering they have to take time away from other more lucrative jobs. I would definitely call them again. Another great business to be thankful for in Berryville.

We picked Lloyd's because of the excellent ratings on Angie's list. They were extremely prompt to respond, came across as very professional, and extremely trustworthy. All went smoothly with the estimate, setting up dates, times, etc. The only glitch during the planning process was that we were promised free, used boxes to be dropped off at our home. That never happened. We had to pick them up ourselves (fine, they were free - but don't promise to deliver them and then say you're "too busy" to do so - we were just a little busy, also). The pick-up day for our belongings went fine. The movers showed up on time, worked hard, and loaded the truck in less time than anticipated; despite the downpouring rain. We ended up having to pay for storage for two days, as they were unable to deliver the day after our closing date, as it had been changed. That happens. My reason for the D and F scores are as follows: 1. Despite carefully marking every box and every piece of furniture as to which room in the house it should go (AND drawing up a floor plan for them), they interrupted what I was doing every two minutes to ask where EVERY item they brought in should go. 2. When the movers arrived, my husband, being the hospitable person he is, rattled off a list of what there was to drink in the fridge, and to "help themselves" if they got thirsty. We had beer in the fridge. A professional mover should NEVER have taken beer before the job was finished. Not only that, the guy kept going back, helping himself (at least a six-pack). 3. A lot of damage. Several plates, , glasses, serving items, half of our water glasses (which all couldn't have been more carefully wrapped with tons of bubble wrap in sturdy boxes), a paper shredder was broken; but the worst was an antique dresser that was damaged (it looked like acid was spilled on it?). See picture. Yes, we signed all the paperwork that goes along with a typical move (i.e., insurance based on lbs. - we felt confident that we didn't need additional insurance - big mistake). But if this is the local moving company rated the highest right now on Angie's List, that's a shame.

Response from Lloyd's Transfer & Storage- North American Moving
Thank you for bring this to our attention. First, I'd like to apologize for the delayed response., as I just received this review today, January 16th, 2017. We have been providing moving services since 1931 and every move is important to us! I appreciate all your positive and negative feedback. This allows our company to maintain high quality service for all Angie's List Customers. 1) Our crews want to be sure that every piece is exactly where you want it. I'm sorry that you felt that this was an inconvenience - however our goal is moving each piece in an efficient manner. 2) This was a shock to me and my Operations Manager. I was also surprised that you didn't alert us to this problem earlier. Two of the crew members that were on your move have been terminated and the 3rd will be today, January 16, 2017. We have a zero tolerance for this kind of behavior. We will not turn a blind eye to this. 3) Looking over your file - I see you did in fact decline the Full Coverage Insurance for your household goods and selected the basic coverage at $.60/lbs. Your claim of items damaged in boxes you packed, not carrier packed (CP), are not covered. However, we did in fact chose to compensate you. As for the furniture, we are obligated to pay damage claims at $.60/bs . which we did and a check and letter was mailed to you on November 2, 2016 and our bank records that check cleared our account on November 11, 2016. As for used boxes - they are available for pickup at our location on a - First Come - basis. We're sorry to hear about the misunderstanding of delivery. We do offer - from time to time - delivery and we have no record of a call or note on your file requesting this service. On January 18th, 2017 - we did an audit of your Bill of Lading and found you are correct. We will refund you 1 day of storage hold due to our capacity limitations. A letter and check will be issued no later than January 20, 2017 to the current address we have on file. If you have any questions please feel free to call our office. 540-955-1247

Description of Work: My extended family has used Lloyds Transfer for six or more moves. We've left our furnishings in storage with them while working overseas. We've never had any damage or loss and for each move the crew has been highly professional, prompt to arrive, quick to pack and unpack the trucks, and very tidy throughout the process. I also appreciate how efficient the project manager was with bids, reminders, follow up emails and all the rest. If you have to move, using Lloyds will truly reduce the stressors. We cannot recommend them more highly.

The estimator did a great job (told us what they wouldn't move; advised us about insuring our antique furniture; and ensured us that his estimate was good (and he was right). Lloyd's provided some boxes in the pre-move and brought clothing boxes for our use. Showed up at about 8:15am with 5 guys and a large moving van. They walked the house and garage; asked a few questions; made a few recommendations; and began the move right away. They dismantled the beds and furniture when needed. While only the group leader spoke much English, it was a hard working and lively crew (they enjoyed music and I encouraged them to listen while they worked). Four hours later, the van was fully loaded and on its way to our new house. I was a bit surprised that only three of the crew showed up at the house to unload, but like the morning, the crew began work immediately and took each box or piece of furniture to the location we wanted. Three hours later our beds, furnishings, and TVs were in place and set up for our use. They were a very hard working crew; we felt we got our money's worth. b and
