They did a great job of providing several options and working with our budget to determine the best approach to address our needs. We had a crawlspace that was frequently flooding from rainwater runoff; they quoted several different options (including encapsulation of the crawlspace, installation of sump pump and new plastic sheeting, replacement of insulation, etc.). The work was performed promptly and professionally.

They did a good job, they seem very professional and focused on the problem.

They were good. They had good customer service and the quality of their work was great. I would recommend them to others.

The job went well. I was impressed with the professionalism and hard manual labor involved in "jack-hammering" the floor, removing old concrete by hand with buckets , installing drain and flush access grids, replacing concrete by hand with buckets(no access by truck), installing sump system with battery backup unit and charger. The job was handled by the ownerwho did much of the work himself. His crew was outstanding, clean, neat, and professional. I would recommend Virginia Basement over any other company of which I interviewed at least three from my area. None would give me a solid estimate or promise to do the job I needed done. Virginia Basement did all this and more. It has been three years and all the systems have worked flawlessly. Need I say more!?

When we called them they came out and explained what they would be doing. We were quoted a price--There was no pressure to hire them. There were no discount periods and no pressure to "buy now" or "do it now". We checked into several other companies and decided to go with Virginia Basement since we liked the way they were going to do it, there was no pressure and they were on the top of your list. They came when they said they would come, they did the work promply, completed the job, and left NO mess anywhere. When they came, they helped move the heaviest items which we were unable to move, away from the outside walls. One morning, they were going to be late and both Robb and Chris called to say what time they would be here. They kept us informed as to their progress and even came back to check to make sure everything had been done correctly. They were very business-like and we felt comfortable with them working in our house. We are very pleased with their job and the sump pumps and dehumidifier they installed.

All went well. They cleaned up everything, replanted the plants, and power washed the sidewalk when finished. Provide us with a twenty-year warranty.

We met withJason and Robbie initially. On the day of service a crew of 2 men showed up. They put plastic all around to keep debris from drifting into the other rooms. They worked, very neatly, for a total of 4 days. Robbie came back to inspect the work. Since then we have had a ton of rain and our basement is STILL DRY!

They came out and they were going to have someone else come and take a look at another part of it for them. The second guy came out and he was going to start the work right then. I didn’t have an estimate at that time. He told me that Rob would come with the estimate. Then Rob came a little bit later with an estimate in hand expecting me to start the work right then. I really wanted time to review it. I was really disappointed with all three groups that came out. I got a really good recommendation for all of them through Angie’s List, but my experience wasn’t good and I am a pretty easy person to work with. I was hoping it would have turned out a little better. I was real hesitant to pursue the job. I am sure Virginia Basement is a fine company. If my experience had been different with them, then I might have really worked with them. They eventually did send me an estimate, but it was very nebulous. It didn’t give me a whole lot of information. They were very responsive and punctual as well. I haven’t marked them completely off my list, but they are not at the top of my list too. So, I might consider using them in the future. I am sure they are a fine organization. The way it was all handled upfront was really unsettling for me. So, I didn’t have the confidence in moving forward with them at this point.

They seemed to know what was going on. They didn't force anything on me and they didn't ask me to buy anything. They were very professional. There was only guy who came out to do the work. He was very nice and he knew what he was doing that's for sure. I would recommend them. I don't remember how much I paid for the service.

This was to fix a house we bought out of foreclosure. We had two bids (VA basement and their mold remediation partner). The selling bank got two bids. The estimates for VA basement and partner were very clear in describing what would be done and covered the entire basement. The seller got two quote- Puroclean and B-Dry. Purocleans quote had detail but missed significant sections of the basement. They also didn't even complete what they quoted. B-Dry's quote might as well have been on a napkin and we consider ourselves extremely lucky that VA Basement came in at a lower cost. If you get two quotes and VA basement is a little higher, I recommend taking them. There won't be any surprises where they say they started the job and found new problems that will cost more. Also, VA Basement doesn't pretend that they can change the properties of water. If it is wet outside it will work its way in. Better to collect the water and pump it out than to spray something on the wall that fails in a year or two. Because Puroclean took almost a week to do a small amount of work, VA basement got pushed back two days. None the less, they worked through Saturday so the job could finish and we could close on time.

I had 5 companies look at my basement. Robert Hicks was the only one who completely diagnosed the extent of the problem and his price was among the lowest. Robert is the owner and has a construction background. It was refreshing to have him visit and provide the analysis and estimate rather than the salespeople from other companies. His company implements both interior and exterior waterproofing solutions so he has a unique perspective on both methods. Robert and his crew did a fantastic job installing the closed waterproofing systems (do an internet search on it - very interesting information about it). He showed up on time and on the agreed-upon date and always did exactly what he said he would. With a job like this I was concerned about unexpected surprises (and additional charges) but there were none. Robert is passionate about what he does and feels very strongly about how moldy/leaking basements and crawlspaces affect the health of its occupants. He and his crew are extremely hard-working and it made me tired just watching them. Note that although his company is based in Ashland, Virginia, he definitely works in northern Virginia and the Washington, DC area. This is an industry fully of many sketchy businesses and a few good honest ones. Robert is experienced and honest and I would definitely recommend him (and already have to several neighbors).
