JES Foundation Repair

JES sales reps are extremely good at what they do, so if you call them, expect to hear a hard sales pitch and be prepared to make decisions on the fly. Cost came out to be higher than I expected, but quality of work was exceptional. Took crews 2 days to completely insulate, waterproof, and encapsulate my crawl space. Crawl space is beautiful now. Some minor cosmetic damage was caused to foundation parging, but JES gladly reimbursed me for costs to repair. All in all a good experience and my electrical/HVAC bills are down roughly $100/month (likely synergistic with outdoor temperature levels).

The work went okay but at the end of the job when they were paid they didn't complete the work until we called them back out to finish. They didn't re-pour the concrete. It took about 3 or 4 calls to get them to come back out and finish.

They were very professional. They answered any questions I had. I would recommend them.

Workers called before arriving to our house. They arrived on time and immediately went to work. They explained the entire process to make sure we were on the same page. They entered the tight crawl space to do the work. They had to dig three holes, load them with stone and cement, and install the jacks and beam. The work was scheduled for two days, but they finished in one. They were very clean and respectful of our home and property.

I was contacted by Brian from JES as to my concerns with the above issues. He made an appointment with me and we reviewed the work in question. A new crew was sent out to make corrections and adjustments. They did an excellent job and made the repairs in a very professional manner. I was very pleased with the final results.

I have done home renovations since I was in college and I currently hold a BS in Mechanical Engineering as well as a Masters degree. I understand construction and knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted and requested JES to come to my home to provide me an estimate for taking the "bounce" out of the floors of my house which was built in 1936. A beauty of a home with solid brick walls and slate roofing. However, JES came with the agenda of selling me work and signing me up (committing me) to the work. The JES representative was nice and polite until he gave me the options of what JES could do for me. My response was to ask for the JES representative to leave me the estimate and I would think about it. I have many projects in need of resources for this house and JES in my opinion just another project to be considered and prioritized among many. Unfortunately the JES representative would not take "No" or even "Maybe" for an answer he kept pressing and pressing for a commitment. I once sold timeshare property in my youth and was schooled to never take no for an answer and to keep pushing. This by many would be considered "High Pressure" sales. I am familiar with the technique and appreciate that I need to not bend but instead thank the JES representative for his time, but ask he leave any quotes with me for consideration. This dance continued for over 20 minutes before the JES representative relented and simply printed a quote as I requested. My fear and opinion is that JES uses this pressure sales technique to take advantage of the elderly and others vulnerable to "pressure sales". They have a very friendly TV commercial but in my opinion their representatives stray far from being family oriented and simply will stop at nothing short of intimidation to secure a commitment from the unexpecting customer who simply wants to have a "Free Estimate" (which JES advertises) but will ultimately get a hard sell and likely be bullied into work they may or may not need, can afford or will find elsewhere cheaper. My experience is based upon a single encounter with JES, but it is my opinion that representatives are encouraged to intimidate and hard sell potential customers. I would advise anyone who is considering JES to perform work to prepare themselves for a hard sell and do not be afraid to say NO! and stick to it. Also besure to always get at least three quotes from licensed contractors before agreeing to have work done. Additionally ask for references which are similar to the work you are considering having done. In my opinion I was very much disappointed with the JES representative, his bulling tactics and ultimately my customer experience.

I noticed cracks in the sheetrock over the corner of several door frames and windows. There were doors which would jam when I tried to close them. The floor on one side of the house was noticeably lower (space between floor and bottom of the wall; space between the kitchen counter top and the back splash). You could release a marble on the floor or kitchen counter top and it would roll to the outer wall. I was very concerned for the viability of the house. There were also cracks in the outside cinder block foundation wall. I called JES Foundation Repair and they sent a certified foundation inspector to come to my house. I explained everything I was seeing and he did his own "do diligence" by inspecting inside and outside. We sat down and he told me in detail what his analysis was and what would be needed to address each issue. The next day at his office, he reviewed his findings with other experts and came back to me with a plan for repairing the crumbling outer cinder block wall as well as shore up the foundation to preclude additional issues. The JES crew was very professional. They went about the work quickly and efficiently. The outside cinder block wall was reinforced with concrete, a concrete under pinning was poured, and twelve push piers were driven down to bedrock. As the push piers were installed, I could actually see the gap between the floor and wall closing until they were flush. The space between the kitchen counter top and back splash was closed up to its original configuration. After the crew had completed all work, they cleaned up the site. Both my wife and I were very happy with the results.

I still have the problem so they are coming back out to see what they can do to fix it.

The construction crew was on time and worked very hard to preform the task of digging the holes for placement of the four supports. The crew was very polite and the crew leader answered my questions as well as should me how the technique worked.

We were told that the cement needed to cure for 3-4 days. We could then move furniture against outside walls. We were pleased with the expediency that the work took place.

I have since had problems with this section of the house with more movement, and severe cracks in the brickwork. I had called and scheduled a meeting about 6 year ago, taking a time off to meet with them, but hey never showed. I not aware of they ever attempting to reach me. I tried to reach them in the past couple of months, but they do not return my phone calls, or a web site request for an estimate to do additional repairs. I need the problem fix, and would pay a price if that was the only way to get it corrected. The warranty does not appear to be worth the paper it is written on. It appeared to me when they were doing the work, that they were placing a pier unit just to one side of the crack, and another 4 or 5 feet to the other side, leaving a 4 foot or so section of footing floating above the shrink swell soil. I suspect that this section has since broken off, and is now moving independent of the remaining structure. Except for this, the other pier units seem to be stable. Additional work I had done at another time to return the chimney to a perpendicular for about $4,000 also seems to be working satisfactorily.

After the nice salesman made his promises, JES proceeded to ignore every one. The entire job was a fiasco: arrived late, didn't have right equipment, took five days longer than estimated, didn't have enough crew, left the basement filthy (cleaning crew of one showed up with no cleaning equipment), left the yard torn up, ignored requests to repair or pay for repairs to the electrical lines severed when they removed old paneling. Do not let these people into your house.

The salesman was very professional and punctual. He explain things and showed us drawings. I thought they did a good job. I think he came here twice so I guess that was above and beyond. The price was okay for what they were recommending that we have done. What we weren't sure about was whether what they were recommending was appropriate or not. We have another estimate that was much lower because they were going to do many sewer support so then we didn't do anything because we're wandering which one should we do. We are trying to find what's the best for the structure.

it went great they were on time for both estimate and service very professional, worked very hard to get it done and explained every thing they were doing to me.

Initial inspection went well and the JES representative explained the problem and that piers would lift the house back up to level. He gave me an estimate on the number of piers and the price. The price was a bit higher than a competitor, but the JES representative seemed more knowledgable and patient. No high pressure sales. Installation went well and while the nature of the work meant that the flower beds around the house would be disturbed, they seemed contientious and tried to cause as little damage to the beds and flowers as possible. The piers worked as expected and the house was leveled. I was able to open and close my front door and windows again. A year or two later I called JES to come and adjust the piers, as the house was sinking in one corner again. It took a considerable amount of time to get an appointment, as their schedules were very booked. I made it clear to the young lady making the appointment that I was selling the house and needed the adjustment as soon as possible. She said she understood, and confirmed that they would do the adjustment at the appointment, but when the representative arrived a few weeks later he said he was just reinspecting and it would be a few more weeks before a crew could come and adjust. I was quite upset, as I made it very clear that an adjustment needed to be made before the inspection the next day, or the sale of the house would be jepordized. I explained my predicatment to the inspector, as well as my frustration as the appointment setter assured me that the adjustment would be made at that appointment. He called the office, and I spoke with one of the owners, and they understood the time issue involved. Thankfully the adjustment was not major, and they were able to get a crew out the next morning to take care of things, and the house passed inspection without issue. I was happy with the job they did, and the new owners were pleased to have the transferable warranty.

They did such a horrible job; they broke up my house and are still advertising on Angies List. I am very upset about it. After they came out a second and third time the work was still horrible! Two floors of my house are damaged!

I would not let JES Construction back in my neighborhood. They did about $10,000 dollars in damage to my house. They were totally incompetent. I’m taking this to the department of professional and occupational regulation today. So far we have paid $1037.60 of over $5000 contract, for cracked tiles, door frames and baseboards that are totally separated, all the bricks on the front porch are broken, a huge crack on porch so big that you can get in the crawl space and do not need a flashlight because the crack is so big sunlight shines in. Tiles in the foyer are cracked in half. The entire tile floor in the foyer is going to have to be replaced at a cost of over $3,000. Structural engineers come out and fix the damage and level the house is going to be over $4000, brick replacement is over $1200, and I have not received estimates yet for the carpentry work or tile replacement but were are easily looking at over $10,000 in damage repair. We have this decorative sheet metal panels on each side of the door and now the bottom of both are crushed from them dropping the house. All the mortar joints are cracked along the bricks. This company has 7 complaints with licensing board so far, we will be the 8th and only 2 of those have been resolved. They are not a member of the Better Business Bureau. I have a huge crack on a load bearing wall, the tile on the floor is cracked I have cracks on the door frames, cracks on walls and ceilings, caulking on door frames and window sills are damaged. I had painters in the house at the time who witnessed all of this. They ran out of tape makers to fix all the spots JES messed up. JES never once came inside with a level to see what the floor was like before they started. They raised the house so high you could not close the front door. The storm door was not able to close, when they let the house down it was such a thud it sounded like an earthquake. You cannot imagine how bad they messed up my house. They are apparently notorious in this area for causing damage; by the way the building inspectors reacted upon hearing that JES caused all this damage to my home. On the Feb 7th when the building inspector came out one of the big shots from JES was there and had nothing to say about the shoddy work was. They claimed the crew they sent out was their best crew. They were totally incompetent! I'm taking this to the department of professional and occupational regulation today.

The entire process and work went well. A couple of minor issues were raised, but were corrected immediately. Very pleased with the work performed and would recommend them to anyone. The gentlemen who performed the work in the crawlspace did outstanding work. I was totally impressed with their work and attention to detail. They identified a couple of small areas of insulation that was missing and stated they would take care of it, but didn't do so. I made one phone call and it was immediately corrected. I had to call the front office about the special door to the crawlspace that was suppose to be installed. They informed me they just received a new shipment and were installing it the next day. I wish they would have called me to let me know they were waiting on doors. Recommend they keep the customer updated on their work status. Overall, I am completely satisfied with their work. Downside: the person who wrote up the contract acted more like a used car salesman. He gave me his phone number to call him with any issues that arose, but when I did call him, he never returned my calls and it was a waste of time to provide me with his phone number. He was very convincing, but a total fake. If he doesn't back up what he states, then he shouldn't mention anything.

The project went well overall. The workers were professional and courteous. They showed up within 30 minutes of the appointment time and stayed until the work was done. The construction manager called after each visit to ensure we were satisified. My only frustration was that after spending $10k to have the new beam installed, they would not shim the joists. Frankly having a new beam that doesn't touch some of the joists is almost worthless. I shimmed myself, but it was disappointed that they didn't take care of it.

He listened to our details on the problem of our leaking, mildew and mold growing basement. He accompanied us on a tour of the basement. A presentation and several action plans were discussed. He answered all of our questions, and there were many, to our satisfaction. We hired the company and made a downpayment. We were contacted quickly for a date to do the work. We would have given an A except the wait time to do the work is lengthy. Due to a busy season, they cannot come out until the end of October. We will give a future review 30 days after the work is done to let you know if our problems are solved.

JES came to our house and inspected a crack in our foundation from outside the property and from under the house. The representative was very open and up front about the nature of the crack and explained that it was not a structural issue. He went on to say that we could have a mason come out and re-point the mortar where the crack was appearing. He explained that the area where the crack appeared was around an air vent and that it is not uncommon to see fatigue in those natural weak points.

They seem to be trustworthy and competent. I plan to use them for some work.

The work was done to satisfaction. There were some communication issues that were resolved. Installation teams were pleasant, professional, answered my many questions with great patience, and left the work area clean. Time will tell how the floor adjustment will hold and work. The crawl space dehumidifier has already made a huge difference inside the home.

After reading these reviews and recognizing that if they insist both of us are here? Sorry. Smacks of a hard sell a la Time Shares or DirectBuy. Not interested.
