Tonya, Jeff, and Frank were a pleasure to work with during our search for appropriate window treatments. We had goals of preserving the natural light while also having an option for room darkening amongst other requests. Tonya and Frank spent a good deal of time working with us to select window treatment options that would meet our needs including performing precise measurements and preparing multiple quotes with different options. Tonya was wonderful with communications providing delivery updates after the order was placed. Once the order had arrived Jeff spent several hours doing the install and worked with the manufacturer to have replacement products remade and shipped when there was an issue that was identified. I thank each of them for working with us through our first time purchasing window treatments and will keep them in mind for future window treatment projects.

Frank did a beautiful job with providing decorator advice (no charge for that), shades, drapes, some wallpaper, recommendations for paint, coordination of entire main level of our new house so everything "blends". this was over 15 years ago. Then recently one of our Hunter Douglass blinds failed and I called Value Blinds. Because the exact color was no longer available, Value Blinds called Hunter Douglass and insisted they replace ALL four blinds in the room so they would match. This was all under the Hunter Douglass warranty so no cost to us. Frank's wife Pat had to make multiple calls to Hunter Douglass. Of course Value Blinds could simply have given us the phone number of Hunter Douglass and said "good luck." This shows how seriously they take customer service, even so many years later. Definitely the place to go if you want high quality and excellent service.

I bought a houseful (15) of different types of blinds from Value Blinds (3 silhouettes, 7 wood blinds, and 5 honeycombs). After comparison shopping, I found that they offered the best value for the great quality of product used. Not having one decorating bone in my bone, Frank was an absolute gem! He started by taking into consideration the rooms' locations relative to the sun's position throughout the day. He recommended the best types of blinds for rooms that faced east versus facing west as well as for the rooms in the upper levels versus those on the lower levels. He helped me select the perfect colors for each room. I just had the installation done today (actually ahead of schedule) and I love the choices that we made.

We purchased custom Norman shutters from Frank at Value Blind. The final product looks terrific and the value was excellent. (Value Blind offered the best pricing of three companies we received quotes from.) At first, we weren't sure what type of window coverings we wanted. Frank came out and spent 90 minutes with us going through the various options and the plusses and minuses of each, which was a huge help. He clearly knows his stuff. Frank came out again to take measurements when we were ready to order. We asked to review the final rail charts before Frank placed the order, as we were still deciding between a few configurations for the shutters themselves. About a week later, we emailed Frank to ask when we'd receive the charts to review. He called back and said that he had placed the order and the shutters were already on their way. He took responsibility for the mistake and committed to making sure that we were 100% satisfied with our shutters, even if that meant submitting a second factory work order. He asked if we'd be willing to wait until the first order arrived so he could make sure all the measurements were exactly right and we could see the shutters in person and decide what we wanted to do. That seemed reasonable to us and we weren't in a rush, so we agreed. The shutters arrived and the install team came out to install custom framing. We were nervous about this as we have plaster walls (which can be tricky) but the team was excellent and did a great job with the installation. We didn't like the shutter configuration itself, though, as the top and bottom rails were too large and it blocked out too much light. We let Frank know and he said he would place another order. He sent us the proposed rail charts for the second order, we made one small change, and he submitted the order. The second set of shutters came in and are perfect. We are incredibly happy with them and with Frank. We bought an old house and have dealt with a number of contractors. Something usually goes wrong somewhere along the line. In Value Blind's case, Frank made a mistake -- but he immediately took responsibility for it and did everything possible (including taking a loss on the sale) to make sure that we were completely satisfied. We would definitely go with Value Blinds again.

We engaged Value Blinds for a shade and cornice for our master bedroom. Our goal was to block out all the light being provided by the streetlight outside of our window. Angelee came out and did a fantastic job working with us and making recommendations from a designer perspective. She spent a good 2-3 hours with us to come up with a treatment for one window. The price for what we purchased was quite reasonable. When the shade and cornice were installed the shade did not block out all of the light as we had wanted it to. We were very disappointed the shade did not block all of the light as we were clear that is what we wanted. I spoke with Frank about this issue and he did something quite incredible. He offered to give us curtains to go over the shade free of charge. This meant they would have to build a larger cornice which he also offered free of charge. The value of what Frank was offering was over $2000. Angelee came out to take some new measurements and talk through the design options. The curtains and new cornice were installed and they look amazing. I was completely impressed by the company's focus on customer satisfaction. I would highly recommend them to anyone else.

Description of Work: This is our first home purchase and since we will be in it for awhile we decided to get professionally fitted window treatments. Everything is perfect. As a first timer in this process I suffered sticker shock but that seems to be the norm for me across the board, guess I'm naïve. The quality is excellent and the customer care heartfelt.

The service and quality was excellent. We used them to install 4 sets of plantation shutters and 4 sets of blinds. We found them at a local home show and contacted them quite a few weeks later. They were able to come out in an evening to provide an estimate and were very helpful and professional providing great decorating ideas. The shutters were ordered and came in just about the time promised and were installed shortly thereafter. Very pleased and would use them again.

Met this company at the Dulles Home Show and set up an appointment. On March 13, 2014, Christa came to my home with her samples and assisted me in selecting the proper products. She answered my many questions and took precise measurements of the various windows. She advised the order would take approximately 30 days to installation. In approximately 40 days after the order was placed I called Value Blinds and asked for the status of my order. Was advised by the office the shutter for the side window was being shipped from California and had not arrived. I would be contacted by the installer as soon as it arrived. Another month passed with no communication from Value Blind despite having my email and phone contact information. I called in mid May and advised, installed would be contacting me soon. The blinds arrived and were installed June 13, 2014, ninety days after the order was placed. I am pleased with the product but disappointed by the lack of communication. The company had my email, cell phone number, and home phone number yet did not advise on the status of the order. To be initially told it would take 30 days, then it was 90 days until installation. I will not use them again.

I bought a new condo and ordered custom interior shutters for all 8 windows. I picked white wood for all the windows. They took a long time but the finished product was worth the wait. While I was waiting, I used the temporary shades that they gave me. I later sold my condo and am sure that the shutters contributed to the easy re-sale.

Value Blind ordered 3X the fabric I needed eventhough I questioned them twice because it seemed to be too much. It is a very small window. My seamstress said they sold me way too much material......... and it was expensive. Over $300. I gave them all the info to make sure I had enough but now I'm stuck with all the extra fabric. I would not recommend them.

Met Angelee at a Dulles home show and made arrangements for her to come out the next week for an estimate. Wonderful woman who had great ideas. Went through all the books of examples she brought and picked out Hunter Douglas blinds for eight windows. Went in to their store in Ashburn a few days later to settle up and came across new Roman-style blinds on display that I liked more than the blinds I picked out. Angelee came in and was happy to change the order. Several weeks later the installer arrived with the blinds. They were well protected and in great condition when they were unpacked. I had paid Angelee extra for installation at the time I purchased the blinds. The installer did a good job installing the blinds but I wasn't happy when he tried to charge me an additional $20 for each window to take down the old blinds. I told him it was my understanding from Angelee that the price I paid for installation included take down of the old blinds. He didn't say anything more about it and finished the job. I am very happy with the blinds but still cringe when I think of the cost. All window treatments are ridiculously priced. A little plastic and fabric and you are paying hundreds of dollars for each window! At least Hunter Douglas has a lifetime guarantee.

Description of Work: "They installed blinds throughout my home. The designers were prompt and professional and the installers were the same. They offered suggestions and throughly explained the product. They also listened to my price and style requests and honored that. Then they delivered and installed within 2 weeks. Part of that time was the Thanksgiving holiday so it may have taken slightly longer than normal. |Now all of my windows are covered and look beautiful!"

We went witht Frank at Value Blinds and Heirloom Draperies (VBHD) from the suggestion of our community sales agent. This is our second time going with VBHD. The first time (around April of 2013) , Frank outfitted most of our windows with blinds, shades and shutters at the cost of about $11,000. This second time, we needed our 4 front windows on the main level covered at the cost of about $2000. Frank claims his prices are lower than Next Day Blinds (NDB). I never really got another estimate; I just took his word for it. We outfitted our home with Hunter Douglas, Norman and Kathy Ireland products and we are happy with them. Frank is meticulous when it comes to measuring. He will measure and re-measure the windows. You'll be amazed at how well the window coverings fit! Also, Frank will not sell you what you don't need. For example, he could have sold us Hunter Douglas blinds but he suggested Norman blinds in some windows. Hunter Douglas blinds were much pricier than the Norman blinds but he claims the Norman blinds have a better mechanism to open/close/raise the blinds. I appreciated that! He'll educate you on the different types of blinds/shades/shutters when you visit his showroom so that you can make an informed decision. If you can't decide, Frank (with his years of experience in the field) will give his 2 cents. When it comes to communication, there's room for improvement. It appears that VBHD does not respond to email questions/inquiries as well as they do telephone calls. I've sent a couple of emails that went unanswered (in fairness, they did respond to previously sent emails). This is not to say that their communication is terrible...it's just that it could be improved. One minor gripe is that after placing my order, I got a flyer in the mail from VBHD announcing a discount (10%) on orders placed within a certain time. My order was just a day or two (I believe) prior to the beginning of that time range of the sale. Knowing that my order was placed outside of the time range, I called VBHD to see if they would consider giving me the discount...after all, I was a repeat customer and considering I spent a good chunk of change ($13K), I thought "why not?". I called one day and was told Frank was out of town and would pass on the message about the discount when he returned. A few weeks later, I called again and got a hold of Frank. Frank said he'd look closer at my original receipt/order form to see if I'd qualify for the additional 10%. He added that he may have already given my the discount at the time he took my order since he knew in advance of the sale. He also added that he would have made a note on the order form. Well, I checked my work order and there was no "note" indicating an additional 10% off was given. It's already been 4-5 days after the days he said he'd get back to me so I'm still waiting. I have already paid the balance in full. Despite my minor gripe, I am happy with the overall experience with VBHD. I know they've been very busy lately (good for them but may mean an even more of a decline in quality of communication). I would consider using them again though I am open to using another company for my next project which is getting curtains/drapery (by the way, VBHD also provides quality drapery) for the living room and dining room.

Great experience ! Angelee from the Value Blind was amazing ! She has great ideas, offered me a wide range of cost options and is so pleasant to work with. I also spoke to the owner and he was also very pleasant and helpful. Value Blinds was the second company I called for my bay window. The first company barely showed me 2 options for the window and didn't make an effort to find out what I wanted . The price was good, I called and got three additional quotes for the same treatment they offered, but decided I didn't want to work with a company that wasn't going to spend any time with me to discuss my options - and I was spending close to $2,000 ! Angelee from Value Blinds asked me several questions before we met and came prepared with many options, some much less expensive than my original selection. She listened well, and offered me an option that is exactly what I wanted, but didn't know existed - a combination roman shade and blind. It's perfect ! Angelee always responded quickly to my e-mails and phone calls and made the whole experience, which I was dreading, very enjoyable. I wasn't planning on buying window treatments for my kitchen, but she gave me several great low-cost options, so I'm going to buy treatments for the kitchen also.

Description of Work: Side light windows by the front door. Beautiful plantation shutters were installed. I have no complaints about the work. I am very disappointed it took two and one half months before the installation because they had to wait for a 'very special piece' to arrive from China. I am concerned and very frustrated they couldn't find an American company for that 'special piece'. I cannot list a price because it was a gift.

Value Blind & Heirloom Draperies was recommended by my interior designer (Home at Last Decor). I contacted Frank Giglio and he met with me for 4 hours on a Saturday. Frank emphasized function over form - an approach that resonates with both of us, as we both have engineering backgrounds. My style preferences - contemporary, casual - and the design of the house led me to choose wood blinds and wood shutters for the majority of the window and door treatments. Frank pointed out that he believes Norman wood blinds and shutters are a better value than Hunter Douglas, but that Hunter Douglas is the best choice for honeycomb shades, another point of view that I appreciated. The installers are subcontractors to Value Blind, and a true reflection of the Value Blind emphasis on quality and efficiency. The wood blinds and honeycomb shades installer showed up almost exactly 4 weeks after the order was placed, and took only two hours to install the window treatments. At the end of the job he informed me that he didn't like the way the valences were produced by Norman, and that he would have them re-ordered and re-installed for free - which he did. The shutter installers (2-man crew) showed up almost exactly 10 weeks after the order, and took 3.5 hours to install all of the window and door treatments. All of the installers were efficient, courteous and professional, and the products are high quality, function perfectly, and come with effectively a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer and Value Blind.
Description of Work: Selected and installed window/door treatments for the 1st and 2nd floors and basement of a 1-year-old new house. Frank Giglio spent considerable time discussing all of the appropriate window treatments to fit my style, and emphasized function first. I selected Norman wood blinds for 11 windows - the front windows of the 1st and 2nd floors and two basement windows, Norman wood shutters for 8 windows in the rear/side of the house and the front door, and Hunter Douglas Honeycomb shades for the upstairs rear bedroom and the basement doors. Frank believes in the old saying "measure twice, ..." and very deliberately measured every dimension of every window/door opening several times, then confirmed every selection and option with me before placing the order. The wood blind and shades installation was performed by a subcontractor, and the wood shutter installation was performed by Norman factory installers.

I had recently redone a bathroom and needed a window treatment for it. I had contacted a shutter company that advertises in the newspaper and gotten a quote. A friend recommended I contact Value Blinds as well. Even though the price per shutter with Value Blinds was a little higher than the other company's, it was immediately clear that both the measurements and the shutters were much better with Value Blinds. Having made that choice, I asked Frank about draperies. My existing window treatments were classical in style, but off-the-rack, as it were. I wanted the same style (swags and jabots), but of higher quality. Frank worked with me for two hours to pick out fabric. He is great at working with the client's own style. Once we had selected the fabric, he meticulously measured everything. It is rare that you find a single individual who is both that precise and meticulous and also creative and artistic! The two products had different lead times. The draperies took 6 weeks, the shutters 8. The drapery installer was a bit hard to get by telephone, but once we got the date scheduled and he arrived, I could see why. He spent 8 hours in the house, meticulously mounting hardware, unpacking the draperies and sheers and then perfectly installing them all. His phone was never even turned on. He focused on his work like a laser beam. By the time he was finished, my house looked like a magazine cover. The draperies are absolutely perfect in every way. Bill is a master craftsman. It shows. Two weeks later, Bruce and Scott arrived with my shutters. The precision of Frank's measurements again was obvious. The shutters fit perfectly. Bruce and Scott were professional, courteous and perfectly precise. I cannot recommend this company highly enough. Yes, it's a lot of money (though the shutters were less expensive than those offered by the two national companies), but the transformation they made to my house is worth every penny and more.
Description of Work: I purchased both plantation shutters (by Norman) and custom draperies from them. The plantation shutters were for 11 windows and 1 door. The shutters came to $3200. The draperies were for 2 narrow windows, 1 double window and one large bay window. The draperies consisted of fixed draperies to the sides, swags and jabots, and pinch-pleated sheers that draw underneath. The draperies, with installation, were around $8000. The owner, Frank, measured for all of them and helped me design the draperies. After 6 weeks, the draperies were installed by Bill. Two weeks later, the shutters were installed by Bruce and Scott.

The blinds were from a brand name manufacturer and are covered under the warranty to be restrung. However, the company maintains that I owe them $50. Here is the sequence of events. - I called to inform them we had some blinds coming apart. I was told she would contact the manufacturer and call me back. - After a week of no call back, I called again and left a message since no one answered. - A few days later, someone calls to tell me they can come by and look at the blinds. They give me a day and time and are not flexible. I figure they will be in the area and that's when it is convenient so I cancel my plans so I can be here. - The person shows up, looks at the blinds, pops them of so they can take them back and have them sent to the manufacturer. They then inform me that I owe them $50 and they are an independent contractor so I should make the check out to them. This is all quite to my suprise since no one ever mentioned a fee and the company never called me to inform they were sending an independent contractor. I refused to pay and we called the company. Of course, there was no answer. I told him I would take the blinds in and he said that he would go ahead and take them. - The company representative called back shortly after the contractor left. I explained the situation. She informed it was standard practice to charge but since I was not told about it she would let it go this time. She informed me it would take 2-3 weeks to get the blinds back from the manufacturer. I thought the matter was resolved. (In addition, no ever told me that I could have brought the blinds in myself to have them looked at and sent for repair.) - After three weeks, I had not heard anything about my blinds being returned. I called to check on their status and as usual had to leave a message. I spent the next 4 weeks periodically calling to check on the status, almost always having to leave a message. When I got responses it was that they are taking longer since the manufacturer is changing things and someone will get back to me with a date. I had agreed to pick up the blinds when they returned to avoid the $50 fee for bringing them back to my house. - They called and gave me a date for the following Friday that the blinds should return to their store. - I received a letter from the company claiming that they had notified me of the fee and that I owed them $50. I called back the day I received the letter and left a message since no one answered. No one ever returned my call. - The date my blinds were supposed to arrive came and went. I called several times during the week and left a message (again no answer). Finally, a week after the date they were supposed to arrive someone responded to my call to let me know the blinds were there but they were leaving in 5 minutes so I could not come pick them up but I could come on Monday morning. I spoke to the representative about the issue of the $50 bill I was sent. She maintained it was their policy and that she was positive that she and the contractor had informed me of the fee. This is the same person that I spoke to after the contractor left my house and told me the fee would not be a problem since I was not informed. - Monday morning I received a call saying that it was no longer convenient for me to pick up the blinds and I could call Tuesday morning to schedule a time to pick them up. This was one of the owners that called. I explained to them the situation and the process that I had been through. I assumed the owner would not want customers being treated in this manner. The owner did not believe that their employee or the contractor had failed to inform me of my options or the fee and maintains that I still owe the fee. - I still do not have my blinds back. They may have low prices but it has not been worth the hassle or the implication that I would lie about the events.
Description of Work: We called regarding problems with blinds that we ordered from this company several years ago for nearly $2000 and had them install. The blinds were coming apart and needed to be restrung. After I made several phone calls someone called to say they were coming out to look at the blinds. After the person arrived and spent no more than ten minutes here I was told I owed him $50. No one ever informed me there would be a charge. I have found this company to be very difficult to deal with and get my calls returned. The original 2-3 weeks estimate is now over 7 weeks. And I am being told I am responsible for a fee that I was not informed about until after the fact. There was a no-fee alternative available that I was not told about.
