The technicians were very polite, very informative, and worked very hard to remove the old mixing valve and custom-cut the pipes to accurately fit a replacement. However, I noticed after they left that the water pressure throughout my condo unit was significantly reduced, and they had nicked and chipped the wood on my balcony flooring during the pipe cutting and fitting process. (The water heater is located in a utility closet outside, next to the balcony.) That was very disappointing and frustrating, since they wouldn't come up to fix the water pressure problem. I had to clean out all of my faucets myself, using toothbrushes and toothpicks! UPDATE: The mixing valve began to leak on June 13, 2012. Modern Mechanical would neither send someone out to fix it nor tell me what the length of their work warranty was! Talk about not backing up your service! I had to get another plumber out to fix their mistake. I WILL NEVER USE MODERN MECHANICAL AGAIN!

Modern Mechanical was sent to my house by our home warranty company. Turns out the warranty company is a bunch of crooks but Modern Mechanical (MM) is an honest business and do good work. The compressor failed on our old heat pump and the estimated cost to replace just the compressor was from $2000 to $2500. We got a similar quote for replacement from another company, and I did my own research on the cost of parts as well, so we felt comfortable that MM was playing it straight and not simply trying to sell us a new system. For various reasons we decided that it would not be worth it to put that sum of money into an older system and decided to look at our option for a new system. Raymond took quite a bit of time on a Sunday afternoon going over the pros and cons of two possible systems with us and did not pressure us to make a decision. Note that while they do have products from a few manufacturers they mostly sell Lennox systems, which was fine with us, Lennox seems to be a good company and had a $1000 rebate at the time we were buying. We slept on it overnight and called him back the next day. The installation was straightforward and looks much more professionally done than whoever did the previous system. Raymond even came back a few days later to discuss a few questions I had and spent time adjusting the grilles over the return vents to reduce air flow noise. My wife was present for the initial service call and new system installation and said that everyone was very polite and didn't mind my two year old son watching them the whole time. Raymond is a nice guy as well.

When my A/C system went out, my home warranty company (Old Republic) called Modern Mechanical to do the service call. On the initial call they identified the fan motor was busted, and came back to replace it later that week after ordering the part... but they could not mount it properly because the bottom bracket was rusted out. At this point I inquired about replacing the whole unit (25 years old, well past its useful lifespan). While the home warranty wouldn't cover full replacement, Modern Mechanical did give me a complete estimate for a replacement heat pump and air exchanger, including a discount for parts/labor covering the work already done on the old unit. The estimate was fair and based on the quality of their work done so far I went ahead with it. They hauled away the old unit, installed the new one, custom-cut the duct work to fit, fully sealed and insulated all joints, ducts and piping, and tested the new unit before signing off on it. The repair team was prompt and thorough, did a good job with the estimate, equipment recommendation and installation, and I would definitely recommend them for this type of major HVAC installation project.

I wasn't very satisfied with their timeliness. We thought that the final quote was higher than it should be. We asked them for separate quotes for a couple different tiers of systems. It took them a very long time to get us the quote on e-mail. We had to call them and remind them that they were supposed to give us a quote. They didn't strike me as responsive.

Patrick (Territory Manager - Salesman) was thorough, professional, courteous, and punctual. He clearly laid out options/products and provided all necessary company information. Modern Mechanical pushes Lennox brand equipment, which is a solid product based on my research and what I have seen so far. The equipment (variable speed air handler, 17 SEER outdoor unit, water heater) were installed in about a week from the time of purchase. Installer was experienced, efficient, clean and thorough. A couple of issues came up during/after install - including the need for an upgraded thermostat (to control the advanced air handler), the need for a converter box due to existing old aluminum wire, additional duct work to handle added air pressures, loud initial air movement, etc. Each of these issues were identified and handled immediately by Modern Mechanical, at no additional cost to me. Also of note, during installation, my sump pump was inadvertently damaged. I notified Patrick, and within 1 hour a plumber from Modern Mechanical was at my door with a new pump and was promptly installed -- free of charge. I can't say enough about the company; great people, great products, excellent customer service.
