Outstanding. Came out quickly and on schedule. Did a thorough estimate with several options depending on how much we wanted to accomplish. Did the work on schedule and showed great concern about not ruining the yard or damaging anything. Everything was hand dug.
Description of Work: Metro fixed/upgraded drainage around our house. We'd had water coming into our basement routinely because of poor drainage design by the developer. Metro added a drain and tied the old and new drain boxes together with solid PCV pipe taking the drain well down the hill. They added drains and pop ups on 2 downspouts tying in our sump pump drain. They blew out and old drain that was completely buried in the yard and they put in 2 new window wells. We've had some heavy rain since and we are staying nice and dry.

Very well. Mike Wheeler came out as scheduled and looked over the drainage and the drain and explained how they proposed to clean out the drain and check its quality. They then returned as per appointment and using special equipment cleaned out the long drain and also rebuilt the bottom of the window well to enable future drain cleaning and caulked between the house and the side of the well. Very professional service.
Description of Work: Check and clean out french drain installed 20 years ago and check drainage of window well. This seemed to be draining slowly and water was also coming in between the well and the wall of the house.

Both Jim & Mike were very easy to work with. I had an existing drainage system installed by the builder, but it needed to be extended to include an additional down spout along with a 12" x 12" catch basin. Jim scheduled an appointment for the following Saturday and Mike came out to provide a price. I was pleased with his recommendations and scheduled the work for the 2nd week to allow time to schedule Miss Utility. Rain delayed the work by only a day and when it was completed, I was delighted by how well it turned out. It was truly a professional job. The price was great and I recommend this company without any reservation.

These guys were great! They showed up on time, worked steadily and completed everything in one day. Their approach saved me thousands of dollars from another estimate that I received from a similar company and reduced the damage to my lawn and risk to roots of mature trees. They identified the sump pump risk and corrected it as part of the solution. When they uncovered the dry well, they found that they needed a larger cap than they had to replace the existing white solid one with a green pop-up drain. This minor change is like screwing in a light bulb. I paid for the work because it was substantially complete. They said they would come back in the future when they had the part they needed. They came back without any prompting and installed the green pop-up as promised. This is a small business and they charged a $50 fee for estimates which is credited to the work they do if you go with them. At first this fee put me off but I was anxious to get the work done and this was to be the last of my three estimates to get before choosing a provider. So I took a chance and agreed to pay the fee which they told me about when I called to ask to schedule an estimate. I was very glad I did! I would use them again if I ever need to and without qualification or hesitation recommend them to family and friends.
Description of Work: Provider analyzed several drainage issues in yard stemming from downspouts and drains installed by an unrelated contractor during a major remodel in 2009. Their solution involved redirecting pipe, installing new pipe, installing clean outs on all downspouts where they connect to drainage pipes, installing 2 new pop-ups drains, locating and uncovering access to a dry well installed in 2009 by remodeler, connecting new downspout to existing dry well, correcting sump pump discharge pipe to prevent blockage from freezing and/or animals.

Description of Work: We had a serious erosion problem at the back of our property. Metro Drainage made recommendations to fix the problem and ended up installing an underground drainage pipe to direct water to a natural drainage area and brought in riverbed rock to create a drainage path that looks good and will not further erode.

Our driveway was slowly being washed away by rain water. Run off from our and our neighbor's house ran between our properties before spilling out onto our driveway due to the way the houses were built into the rolling hills in that occupy our neighborhood. This left us with an erosion problem in the warm months and a normally iced over driveway in the winter months. Called Jim to see if he could do anything about it, and he certainly did. He tied in both ours and our neighbor's downspouts into high-quality PVC pipe that went from the back of our property out to the street with a pop-up drain. Also put in a catch basin in back where we had a low area that always flooded seemingly every time it rained no matter how hard or how long. Very happy to report that this has solved the water issues. On top of that, Jim was the epitome of a professional whenever we spoke with him. Fantastic job by him and his partner, and if we ever need to, we'll be going back to him in the future. If you have a water issue, give this company a call. There's a reason why they've won so many Angie's List awards.

The back yard at our house had become a serious mud pit and would have standing water in a couple of low points for weeks after a heavy rain. Somewhere around 8 March, I called and left a message on their answering machine. Mike Wheeler called back within an hour and a half and we arranged for him to come out that Saturday (12 March), take a look at the backyard, and provide an estimate for his proposed solution. Mike was right on time and very professional. It was not a high-pressure sales, but rather he listened to what I had to say, told me what he saw as problems causing the issues with our yard, what he felt would be possible solutions, and his overall recommendations. We elected to go with Mike's recommendations and contracted with Metro Drainage on 14 March to have the work performed. They arranged to have the utility lines (electric, gas, phone, internet, etc) marked prior to their arrival. When both Jim and Mike arrived on 31 March, they noticed something didn't look quite right with the markings, so they called the utility company back to remark a line, which was done within two hours. Rather than just start digging away with the machine, they carefully hand-dug some test holes to verify utility line markings against placement. They discovered they were still mismatched (some by almost 3 feet) in some areas. Rather than risk cutting the phone/cable lines, they then carefully dug out about 30' of shallow trench manually, and used the digging machine for the rest. After installation of the drainage system, Jim and Mike redistributed the leftover soil which had been dug up into various holes and low areas in the yard, then spread grass seed and hay to repair the areas they had dug up. Since then, it's rained several times and we've not had a mud pit since! Very satisfied with their work and highly recommend them!
Description of Work: Installed approximately 170' of 4" ADS pipe leading from four downspouts to a lower graded area of the yard and installed water outflow valves. Installed a 12" by 12" catch basin at the lowest point of the yard and tied it into the drainage system. Reseeded dug up areas of the lawn.

Jim was very responsive. Every time I called he would either answer or return the call within a few hours. He showed up on time (on a Saturday afternoon) to provide an estimate. He was knowledgeable and wrote up an estimate on the spot. He was very upfront with us from the start that his schedule was full for about a month due to all the rain we had earlier this summer. We wanted to proceed so he put us on the calendar for approximately a month out and he ended up coming to do the work a few days early. He and his crew worked very efficiently and did a great job. Our side yard is no longer a swamp and we are happy with the work.

My professional interactions with Mr. Jim Monge started several months ago. However, because of the exceedingly pluvial weather this past summer, he chose to wait for a "dry spell" in order to construct the drainage system which eventually came to July 23, 2015. Earlier this summer, Jim made an original visit to my property to inspect the geometry and was quite didactic in explaining to me the whys and wherefores of the proposed construction -- sort of like a quick course in civil engineering 101. On the target date, he arrived with the material and his crew of two support workers around 10:00 AM and was finished circa 1:00 PM. The demeanor of Jim and his team was extraordinary. They showed utmost professionalism during the entire construction cycle and answered my somewhat pesky questions from time to time in a professional and didactic manner. This is the second time I used Angie's List service. The previous one was for a handyman service for non-drainage issues. I am quite impressed with the professionalism and reasonable pricing of the two contractors I hired for some long overdue fixes to my property and would not hesitate to us their services in the future. Sincerely, Theodore N. Maisel, Brunswick, Maryland

Mike provided me a quote first part of February. He surveyed the property and provided us with a very fair quote. We had to wait until the ground was clear from snow and ground temperatures to increase allowing he and the team to dig the necessary trenches. He tied our gutters/downspouts into the drain system and that has made a huge difference. He needed to drop at least 3 drains to ensure most the water was being contained. The job was done timely and professionally and would definately refer their services.
Description of Work: Mike and his team installed a french drain in the back of our yard where the elevation slopes toward the house. With all the rain we received there was contant standing water in our backyard making it virtually impossible to grow grass or keep flower bed alive.

During heavy rains our sump ran continuously as the water was draining toward the house, entering the french drain, and then reentering the sump, creating a continuous cycle. The original sump drain when the house was built (we are second owners) was broken and we had it replaced with pvc. At the time we did not realize there was not sufficient fall at the exit point and the bog in the yard started. We then desired to solve the bog issue and also take the down spouts away from the house. The firm that tried to solve the issue used black ridged pipe (which slows water flow) and the exit point while farther from the house, was actually level with the entrance point of the water, thus providing almost no fall to facilitate draining. That firm had also installed the pop-up slightly below ground and it had no gravel beneath it. Our sump runs all winter because we have a high efficiency gas furnace that puts water into our sump. With the pop-up slightly below ground level the water froze over the pop-up this winter and therefore could not exit. We had to make a shallow trench and chip ice away from the pop-up so it would drain. After five days of that twice a day during that very cold weather, we knew a better solution was needed. After looking on Angie's List we found Metro Drainage Pros. Metro Drainage Pros were the third attempt to solve our drainage issue. Mike reviewed our issue and gave us an estimate, which was fair. Mike recommended using pvc pipe (a slick surface that facilitates water flow, and a product our research indicated was good for this type of issue), and found an exit point for the pipe that provided a good amount of fall for proper drainage. He recommended connecting the sump drain and the two down spouts so that all the water would be taken away from the house. Mike came out before the work was done and using a 'cool' gadget ran a sight line to ensure the fall was good for drainage. The same gadget showed the previous drainage location did not have fall, which was why there was always water in the black pipe and the yard was boggy around the exit area. The day of the work Metro (Mike, Joe, Maurice and Jason) showed up on time. The gadget was set up and again sight lines were run. The old pipe was removed and the trench was dug by hand to protect our Verizon fios and Comcast lines which are shallow. Our soil is hard clay and rocks. Maurice and Jason were very hard workers digging that trench in the hot sun. Mike kept running the sight lines to ensure the fall was correct all along the trench. The pvc connection at the down spouts and sump exit pipe were done very well, and in the trench the pvc was glued together to ensure no leakage. The exit had a pop-up AND a gravel pit beneath. The pop-up has a small hole in the bottom so any residual water can drain out, the gravel pit is to hold the residual water until it slowly perks into the surrounding soil. The exit for the pipe was located so that the water would flow out onto an area that drained into a large sewer drain. When all was laid, the trench was filled in, sod was put back and seed was distributed to aid in the regeneration of the turf. To do the work some patio pavers by the sump and one down spout had to be removed. Mike was up front about saying that paver/patio work was not in their area of expertise and we would have to take care of re-establishing that section. We understood and agreed. Mike recommended that we take a picture of the patio/pavers before hand, as they were irregular sizes to create a pattern. That proved to be an excellent suggestion, as the crew that replaced the pavers used the picture to see how they were originally placed. We have been very pleased with the Metro Drainage owners and employees. They were easy to work with, and their work has been of excellent quality. Thus far things are working as expected. The next real heavy rain we have we will check out the pop-up area and see how it works with heavy rainfall. Based on our past experiences, this solution looks to handle all the issues. We will add to this review over time for follow up on the long term function.
Description of Work: We had a sump pump drain and two down spouts that were not directed to drain correctly, causing water issues in the yard. Metro recommended a solution, connected all together and rerouted the drain so it all drained properly and exited in a location that did not cause problems.

I hired Metro Drainage in July of 2014 and Jim advised that we needed to wait until Spring of 2015 as that would be the best time for laying such a large amount of sod in our lot, which was the smart thing to do. Due to the rainy spring, they were not able to come out until the first of May. They kept in touch with me during this time informing of their plans. They arrived on time and Jim was exact in how much dirt and sod was needed. We have had two downpours since and the drainage is exactly as he designed. The walkway and patio are great. They worked incredibly h****** the downspout valves as most of the drainpipes were clogged with roots. I did call them this week to come and install a valve and clean out the one drainpipe I did not originally have them work on as I thought it was ok. They were out in two days and had it fixed in no time. They are truly Pros and I could not be happier. Jim, Mike and their crew could not have been more professional or nicer to deal with. I have received so many compliments from my neighbors on their work, and one neighbor has already hired them.
Description of Work: We had severe run off problems in our back yard and had lost over a foot of soil exposing all our underground drain pipes and our tree roots making it impossible to grow grass or mow what did grow. Our front walkway had also eroded from gutter failure. We have a large yard and it was a 3 day job. Jim, Mike and crew brought in a truck load of dirt to replace what had washed away and tamped it down and covered it with sod. All of this was done to create natural pathways for the water, keeping it away from the house and our landscaping. They repaired/replaced the broken drainpipes, installed flush out valves on all our downspouts, installed pup-ups on the openings, raised the level of our walk way, angling it so water drains away from our house and reset the existing flagstones. They built a small flagstone patio right off our back porch door. They raised the level of the yard at this point as the existing steps were too high off the ground. They edged all the beds, and seeded where sod was not necessary. They also re-graded an area in our front yard next to our driveway to allow water to drain off the driveway properly.

Jim came to my home, reviewed the problem, clearly outlined the nature of work that he and his firm did and did not perform, suggested that he could likely only solve a portion of the problem, and suggested I speak with several other providers. He also provided me some advice regarding questions to ask when I did speak with other providers. He was punctual, friendly and professional. I appreciated that he was honest and open about the situation and his firm's capabilities. I would be highly inclined to use him for future work.

Jim Monge of Metro Drainage Pros is a consummate professional. He communicated very clearly in his initial estimate, and worked with me to discuss options for correcting the current situation (seepage of water into the basement walls. Drainage Pros were very accommodating about doing part of the job earlier than planned to work around the installation of a new HVAC system. They had to grade and replace a window well during the time that the HVAC crew hauled the old external unit away and before they installed the new one. This flexibility is much appreciated. The remainder of the work was schedule for January, but Metro Drainage Pros was were able to move up the schedule and complete everything by Dec 31. They also put a screen over the three repaired window well drainage pipes and removed a metal swing set from the back yard at no extra charge, and due to the schedule, made a total of four trips to my MD property from VA. The crew was professional, efficient, and friendly, and tidied up very well after the job was complete. I would highly recommend Metro Drainage Pros and I encourage you to call them.
Description of Work: REplaced three window wells, removed 6 bushes, graded 3 sides of the basement walls, built timber wall on side of entrance door to prevent water from spilling onto the entryway, extended and buried drainpipes with pop-up covers, fixed three drainage pipes from basement sump pump system and put grills, caulked window wells and filled with large gravel, extended and graded sump pump flow pipe, and other items to improve drainage around the house and correct basement seepage into the concrete block walls.

There wasn't a single problem with the project. Scheduling was on time. The work was completed on time and they did an excellent job and cleaned up. We made adjustments to the contract the day the project started, no problem. It was easy working with Mike and Jim, and their crew. Very nice, honest, hard working people. With the underground piping and decorative river bed rock topping the french drain, this solution presented a smaller project scope to other more costly alternatives. Mike was very attentive listening to me describe the problem. He was also very flexible and changed the work order to my last minute thoughts. Jim was there working throughout the project too. i just can't say enough about Mike and Metro Drainage. They are all Pro's and theres a lot of teamwork among the crew. Thank you Metro Drainage.
Description of Work: We had a drainage problem where water was draining around the back and side of house due to gutter downspouts and hillside runoff. Its an older home and when it rained it created a musty smell in the basement. Metro Drainage installed a ground drainage and french drain system, tying in gutter downspouts to collect and redirect runoff away from house. The french drain, topped with river bed rock, runs along the back and side of the house, where it ties in with an underground piping to redirect the runoff towards a natural swale. A perfect solution.

This was a very easy job...but I am not satisify...see the letter I sent to the vendor regarding his customer service. I wanted to let you know that i am going to give you a b- rating. I think you were a nice guy and I understand that the product is probably part of the problem. But your customer service yesterday was annoying to say the least. I did not feel you were not interested in helping me find a solution to the problem (you were on the phone rather than helping me find a solution). Your customer service was typical a vendor who was already payed and needed to get to the next customer. Thanks again for the little effort but the problem was not solved and if I recall I paid 4150 or this small job.

This job was to address the fact that water, during significant rain storms, would flow from the neighboring yards with higher elevations in the back of our residence to the existing catch basin in such amounts that it would overwhelm the drainage system which tied into the county's main storm water pipe. When this occurred it could result in flooding of the garage level of our home. The solution was to replace the small 50 year old catch basin with a larger and deeper one, and installation of a much larger (6") high end storm pipe to replace the 3" terra cotta pipe and tie it in to the county's large storm drain pipe system. Jim, Mike, and their crew performed this work with impeccable care. If you want a drainage company that pays attention to the details and doesn't just do a quick and dirty job, this is the company for you. This is truly the "A-Team" for drainage solutions. This job required navigating very carefully my neighbor's property line, my existing driveway, and the county's right of way during the trench work, without doing damage to the concrete apron of my driveway, a neighbor's nearby tree, while ensuring that the new pipe was sloped correctly to ensure that the water would drain at an appropriate angle downward to the tie-in with the county's main storm drain pipe. And the actual tie-in of the new pipe to the county's storm drain pipe was done with extra care so that no damage was done to that pipe--which was over 50 years old. This sounds easier than it was. But because of the care the Jim, Mike, and their team took in doing all of this it was completed without a hitch. Indeed, the Montgomery County inspector specifically told me that it was very evident that these guys were "PROS" in how they were going about their job. Once the job was finished, the county inspector signed off on the clearance form immediately. Because of the quality and professionalism of the Metro Drainage Pros their outstanding reputation proceeds them. So if you wish to have them assist you with your drainage problem, contact them as early as you can. Their schedule can fill up rather quickly. I had several companies estimate for my job, and it was soon clear to me that most did this work as "side jobs"--it really wasn't their specialty. When Jim came by to give his estimate, it was apparent that he really knew what needed to be done, and was very helpful in working me in to a very full schedule. I was willing to work with him on the start time because I concluded his company was the best, by far, to do my job. I could not be more pleased with the result.
Description of Work: Removed buried original terra cotta storm drain pipe that tied into county's storm water pipe, and existing catch basis. Replaced existing storm drain pipe and catch basin with new ones. After removing all the original drain pipe and refilling the trench with soil, replaced grass removed in excavation with new sod.

We couldn't be happier with the results of the large job that Metro Drainage performed for us. Jim, his company partner Mike, and his team showed up right on time on the day the work was to begin. My wife and I went out and met with everyone and again felt reassured that our job would be done right. Metro Drainage is a small team of very close-knit associates and they work very efficiently together. Their company does not subcontract out the work to the lowest bidder and they personally know their employees. Both Jim and Mike were on the job with their team throughout the entire job - to not only oversee the work and ensure it gets done properly - but to also provide mentorship to the other members as well. They were a well-oiled machine and got right to work. Jim and Mike were right in the thick of the job with the rest of the team and provided quality control inspections along the way. They kept my wife and I informed of their progress and always let us know if one of the tasks needed to be adjusted to better fit the reality of the situation as they performed the work. They did not try to upsell us and even offered several cost-saving suggestions that not only improved our drainage issues but were very aesthetically pleasing as well. The job was completed in approximately 7 days. What a difference it has made! We no longer have large amounts of water pooling up around the house, the sump has not activated once - and when it rains we love to watch the water run off into the appropriate drains and down to the culvert at the front of the house. Jim, Mike and the Metro Drainage team were top notch. It didn't appear to us that it was just another job for them...they added a lot of personal touches and we just felt real good having them do this work for us. We have hired a lot of contractors as we continue to improve our home - but none of them have been as good as this team. We only wish all of them could be like Metro Drainage Pros. Thanks so much to Jim, Mike, Jimmy, Ian and Joey. You guys are the best! If you've read this far and have drainage issues - do yourself a favor and call these guys before you hire someone else. You won't be disappointed!
Description of Work: Moved into our home 2 years ago and have had severe drainage problems. The existing property had not been well kept up and the surrounding 3/4 acre (sloping towards house) had runoff issues that left the sump pump running constantly in the spring/summer. It was so bad that the sump couldn't keep up and an auxiliary pump had to be used to pump water out of the sump through a hose and out the window to prevent overflow and basement flooding (finished basement). We called several drainage companies and had several come out to perform estimates. Upon meeting Jim Monge from Metro Drainage Pros - we knew we had found the right company for this very large task. Jim walked throughout the property with us and listened as we explained the problem as we saw it. He methodically assessed the problem and began offering solutions for the various issues along with rough estimates and alternatives for us to consider. Ultimately we came to an agreement on the work to be performed which included 40+ feet of French drain, 280+ feet of buried drain pipe from all four downspouts to the front culvert, swimming pool backwash line tie-in to drain pipe, re-grading of 800+ sq. ft. of topsoil surrounding front back and one side of house, multiple installations of catch basins and two basement window bump-outs, and finally two dry creek bed features topped with 1-3" River Jack rock - one approximately 3 x 20 ft in length and the other approximately 3 x 70 ft. Additionally the 70 ft dry creek bed was lowered to form a natural swale to catch runoff water from the front yard. Finally they installed 1600 sq. ft of tall fescue sod to completely surround the 70 ft dry creek bed. Jim and his team's professional approach and demeanor left us feeling very good about the multiple options and quality of work to be performed.
