M.C. Fence and Deck

I found them on Angie's List. They are very knowledgeable, he showed up, he was a few minutes early on a Saturday morning, we got right down to business, we went out and looked at the fence, he took the measurements, and he told me that he would get me an estimate by Monday, and I had it by Saturday afternoon. He was very prompt and responsive. His estimate is very responsible. They came in by far lower than other estimates, and they included a discount in their cost because I am an Angie's List member.

I live in an end-unit townhome in Sterling, VA. I contacted MC Fence via email in mid February for an estimate to replace my existing 25-year-old fence. I received a call within hours from Mike, the owner, who told me he would be out in the next 2 to 3 days to provide me with an estimate. Sure enough, 2 days later I received an email estimate. I had also gotten an estimate from another highly-rated Angie's member, and the estimates were literally $5 apart. I went with MC because I just felt that Mike had a more professional demeanor about him, and Melissa, who I assume runs his office, is fantastic -- extremely responsive, courteous and professional. I had a few questions/concerns about making sure MC followed my HOA's requirements with the replacement fencing, and I wanted assurance that my existing landscaping would not be damaged. Melissa replied to my emails within minutes, and re-assured me the fence would be in compliance and no landscaping would be damaged . Mike got me on the schedule one week later -- despite the horribly cold, snowy weather. The installation went off without a hitch. 2 gentlemen showed up around 8:30 in the morning, and the fence was up by 4 p.m. that same day....in 30 degree temps no less! The fence is absolutely beautiful, and I think the guys left the yard cleaner than it was when they arrived!! They moved a very large shed which was resting up against the fence, as well as our gas grill -- not a scratch, dent or bump on anything. My landscaping is perfectly in tact. The new fence looks beautiful and the price was extremely fair and affordable. I am so glad I went with MC Fence. I hope all my neighbors ask us who put up the new fence....I would be delighted to refer them to MC. Thank you, Mike, Melissa and your great team!!

They arrived when they said they would. They finished all but one post in one day. Manuel came back early the next morning to finish it up. I feel that my dogs are safe and the fence adds to the beauty of my historic home. We picked a vinyl product for the property line and then wood for the backyard to keep the area open. We are very pleased.

MC Deck and Fence was wonderful from start to finish. I got 3 estimates and selected them as the most responsive even tho they were not the cheapest. They company is run with honesty and integrity.

Installed a rear yard aluminum fence. Everything went great and we are very pleased with the finished product.

Tim arrived on time, but I had already decided NOT to change the fencing. But out of courtesy, showed Tim what I wanted. "No problem, we can do that" and 15 minutes after he arrived, he was going to do the job!!! The work crew was very happy and a joy to have here. They treated this job on my lowly house as if they were putting in a fence at at $2 million house. I am stunned that I live in a house with such good fencing. There are not enough superlatives!

Fast, reliable, and professional fence installation. Felt like we got a very good value for the money too. Staining/sealing services seemed too expensive, so we went with another company for that but we would definitely go with MC again for any future deck or fence construction. Much better service than when we had a fence installed at our previous home.

When we called for an estimate, we got a prompt reply and had someone out here less than a week later. K.C. was very friendly and easy to work with; his men quickly and efficiently installed the fencing, done to our satisfaction (the work took less than one day to complete). We would certainly call them first for any future work we may need to have done.

Everyone at company was a pleasure to deal with. Tim the estimator came out twice to insure the estimate and job description was correct. Melissa in the office returned calls promptly and was always polite and helpful. Job crew showed up on time and were finished in six hours. The fence looks wonderful and is of the highest quality. They will definetly be the only company I call for fencing or deck needs and I will be happy to recommend them at any time. A truly professional compnay and a pleasure to deal with.

The folks at MC Fence and Deck were courteous, professional and fair throughout the lifecycle of the project; from the proposal phase to completion. The installers showed up promptly at 8:00am and completed the job in one day. We definitely received great value for the price quoted and we would recommend this company to friends and family.

Crew showed up at 8am as promised and finished by around 1pm. They were experienced, efficient, and very professional. They consulted with me on the layout and made sure the fence was properly installed in the locations we described. Was amazed that the crew was able to completely build onsite in such an efficient manner. I was expecting the fence to come in prefab sections but they constructed the fence picket by picket onsite. Love the finished product and so does our dog. They were also the best price by over $1000 compared to 2 other quotes i received. Will definitely call them back next year when i install our deck.

We first contacted MC Fence in August and they were quick to respond. They were thorough with their assessment, and came back with an estimate that was half the cost of another major company's estimate. It took us awhile to get everything approved through our HOA, and when we contacted them again in October, they were still ready to install. The fence was up in a day, and there was no trace of debris left behind.

Matt was great to work with and he was very knowledgeable. He dealt with my neighbors very well. The crew members were terrific and very clean and tidy. They responded right away to my phone call and to come out to provide an estimate. They were able to complete the job very quickly as well.

The fence went up in a day, straight as an arrow, and work are clean of 98% of all construction debris. They had forgotten to cut the bottom row of the pet barrier, and when I called, the sent a tech over to complete the removal of the barrier.

I called MC Fence and Deck to get an estimate on 11/14/2013. I spoke with Melissa in the office and she was efficient and helpful in providing me with an estimate time. Within a day, I had KC come out to estimate my yard. He was very proficient and measured out my fence with his wheel. I explained that I was in need of a fence before thanksgiving as I had my family, including small grand kids, coming to my house. And that my one Grandchild wanted to bring her new small puppy so I needed to keep that contained. Kc was able to give me an estimate on the spot, I signed the contract, gave him the deposit. The Operations Manager called me that day to let me know that we were scheduled for 11/20/2013. I was called to go over my contract and was told what time to expect the crew. The crew showed up on time and were very professional and nice. KC met there in the morning to get the crew started. The crew worked efficiently. All in all it was a great experience and I would highly recommend them to everyone.

MC Fence did a great job! Their estimator came out and gave me a fair price on my fence and were able to install it the very next week! The crew and project manager were very professional and courteous! I would highly recommend them to my family and friends!!

Review from December 6th: I requested someone from the MC Fence to come out and give me a quote to perform the above work. My wife and I were extremely happy to have met Billy whom was very knowledgeable and didn't pressure us or rush us into anything. After he gave us his quote and displayed to us his prior work we decided to sign the contract immediately so work could be performed soon. He indicated work would be done within a week and someone from the office would call me that day to set up payment and a date for installation. After I hadn't heard back from the office within a day I decided to call myself to try and give them their first payment and make sure they would be able to start work the following week. Payment was made and I was told someone would be stopping by beforehand to mark the ground for utilities. I was also told a project manager would reach out to me to confirm the date of installation and give me a time frame for arrival (I was told I would just need to be there for the start of work for about 15 minutes to confirm everything). The day before work was scheduled to start my wife was surprised to have a construction supply company knocking on her door asking to drop off the materials. We had no idea this person was coming and a head's up would have been nice. I called the office again to confirm they would be there the next day to start work and see what time they were going to arrive. I was told the project manager would call me within an hour and let me know when he would be at my house (never occurred). The next day I called the office back again to see when they were going to arrive (I was told I only needed to be there for the first 15 minutes of work, but this is pointless if I need to wait all day for them to arrive). I was told they would be there in the afternoon. They arrived in the afternoon and installed the fence. When I came home I was told by the crew that they didn't have the post caps and that they would be by the next day to install them. The next day I received a call asking for the final payment although the caps had not been installed yet. I told them I wanted my caps installed. I was told they would be back the next day to install them. After about 5 days without post caps installed I called them back again to ask the status. They returned the next day and installed them. They did a horrible job installing them as they were not level because the tops of the posts were not cut level. No effort was put into making the job look good at the end. When I called to complain and sent an email with photos showing the poor work I was told they would be out the next day to fix the work. The workers came back a third time and tried to fix the caps. They only cut two of the fence posts to try and make them level, but did a horrible job. When I tried to point out how they were sideways I was given an excuse (in Spanish that I didn't understand) as to why they had to be that way. They also never turned the post caps 90 degrees as requested so the screws wouldn't face directly out. After the workers left I decided to write a negative review on Angie?s List. Within a few days I was contacted by one of the owners (KC) and he told me they hate getting negative reviews and would return to fix the project and would offer to stain my fence for free. Because of their generosity I decided to accept that offer. They returned and fixed the post caps. A short while later the stain color was chosen and workers returned to stain the fence. These painters were extremely rude to my wife and did a horrible job staining the fence. I took it upon myself to contact the company to advise them of what went wrong. Mike, the president, came out and took a look at the fence and said the stain job was horrible and they offered to redo the entire fence at no cost. I again took the company up on this offer. In a matter of weeks I had a new fence installed. Again though, horrible painters were sent out to stain the fence. They arrived extremely late (painters said it was a long drive from the border of West Virginia and they needed to attend to a dead cow on their farm before going to work). They also did a horrible job painting the fence. They used ALL of a 5 gallon bucket to stain 40 feet of fence. I had pools of stain sitting on top of the cross-beams that were never cleaned up. They sprayed stain all over the hinges and handles and when I asked them to clean everything up they didn?t. The stain we chose to use was a transparent stain (you should be able to see the grain of the wood). They applied so much so quickly there are portions of the fence that look like multiple coats of paint were put on it. The job was sloppy and I wish I had never had this company stain my fence. I expect they rushed the painting job so that they wouldn?t be stuck in traffic on their return trip to the border of West Virginia since they arrived so late. This is the second time MC Fence has replaced the entire fence and the seventh time they have come out to get the job done correctly. I have given up with them at this point and I have taken it upon myself to go and purchase new hinges and handles for the fence to replace the ones the painters ruined. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to fix the wood that is ruined by the amount of stain applied. Lastly, since I have had so many issues in the beginning you would think someone from management would have called me to see how the project turned out. It has been over a month and I haven?t heard a word. Also, midway through the project I told them I was looking to have them do further work at my house ($7000) as incentive for them to fix their current work. They obviously didn't take it seriously and have lost my future business. Update: The day after posting the above review I received a voicemail from Vice President KC. In the voicemail KC stated that my Angie?s List review comments were an ?intentional tort? and that he already discussed my review with a lawyer. He went on to state that he hoped to resolve this ?without legal action? but he is prepared to go that direction. Shortly after receiving this voicemail I received a similarly worded e-mail from KC stating that I did not contact the company before posting this review to tell them they did poor work. He also went on again to note my comments were done with the intention to harm his company. Since he was talking about taking legal action if I did not remove my review I refused to talk to him outside of a documented format such as email. In about 8 e-mails to each other I advised him of the facts of what occurred during my fence installation process and that it was his company?s fault the work was poor. In the last e-mail to me KC stated that he was going to seek ?litigation for damages.? I haven?t heard back from his company since then. According to the Angie?s List customer service department, MC Fence and Deck posted a response to my review on December 16, 2013 that stated the stain job was ?awful.? They also indicated that they ?are replacing the fence and refunding? my money. Neither of these things has occurred nor have I been contacted to arrange for these to occur and it has been approximately two months since they made this statement. I would also like to note that I advised the company on December 7th that they are not allowed on my property again. I don?t know how they plan to replace my fence without permission to enter my property. Throughout this process KC appear to be mad at me with the outcome of this project instead of getting mad at his employees for the work that they did (or didn?t do). Had anyone from his company ever asked me what I thought I would have told them but nobody ever asked. I have found it incomprehensible that a company would threaten and bully a customer with legal action after they did poor work and even admitted to it.

I first contacted MC Fence through their website and did not get a response after 3 days so I called and made an appointment for an estimate. The appointment was made for the end of the week. Billy arrived on time and was both professional and friendly. I asked him if he could also have a look at our deck which need some work. He took some measurement of both fence and deck and explained that the fence it self was In good condition and that the posts were not cemented when the fence was originally constructed therefore this caused the leaning of the fence and the gate. He explained what needed to be done to correct the fence, which included taking the fence apart, install new posts with cement and installing the correct size posts for the gate. After receiving the estimate a couple of day later, I called and made an appointment for the following week MC Fence called the day before to let us know that they would arrive around 1:30 in the afternoon. I was a little concerned that there would be enough time to do the job and was assured that the job would only take a couple of hours. On the day, my husband was home and received a call to say the materials did not arrive on time and were able to be there the following morning. The day of the job the team arrived on time with all materials and got to work. My husband was rather impressed with how quickly they got to work cutting down the fence, digging through what is a clay/rock ground to install the new posts. Also, to our surprise building a new gate right before his eyes. The cost of the fence included the Angie's list discount and I suppose the new gate as mentioned as a coupon. The fence is now sturdy and looks great! I would so recommend M C Fence and Deck and look forward to using them again on our deck in the near future. Thank you for a great experience.

I set up appointment with a friendly representative for an estimate. I was called the day before to confirm the estimate appointment. The estimator was very courteous and informative. He advised me that our gate with the rotted/squirrel chewed posts was still very sturdy and sound and would not need to be replaced. Two other companies had told me that it was not worth saving. When the crew arrived, they were friendly and worked steadily, not taking breaks. They cleaned up perfectly in our yard and in our neighbors'. Part of the job was replacement of posts on property common to us and a neighbor behind us. Overall, excellent work. We have already recommended them to others and will call them in the future if we need additional fence repairs. We also felt that the price was very fair.

Great service. We just bought a house that has an older fence and deck that required some updates/upgrades for additional safety and to accommodate ownership of a small pet. We solicited estimates from a handful of places that do deck and fence work, but we found that most of the other companies seemed annoyed/unhelpful if you weren't asking them to put in a full deck or fence (either they just didn't provide an estimate or they just priced themselves too high so as to say 'you may as well be putting in a new deck and fence'). The estimator that came out was super cool and professional, and he provided a number of solutions/options to a few issues we needed solved without pressuring us one way or the other (which I appreciated). They were able to have a crew out to our house within a of couple days of sending the estimate and the crew was able to start/complete the job without me present (some folks may cringe at that, but I was THAT comfortable with their competence that I wasn't worried about having to take time off work to oversee them). They did a great job, and would highly recommend their services to anyone requiring deck and/or fence work.

Overall, this experience was very good. They did not initially install the patio correctly, it was short about 18 inches, but they made it right and installed a border around the patio, at no charge to me. The fence was also done very well - for the amount of money that I spent on the overall job, I resented paying extra for them to stain the fence, and the person who stained it did not follow MC Fence's direction to wait for my approval of the color, but overall, I'm pleased with the result. They were extremely responsive and professional, and I would recommend them and use them again.

Great company. They came right out and gave us an estimate. They did a wonderful job and left the yard clean when they were finished. They used a better grade of wood and removed a large amount of brush and haul it away before they could begin work. Not only was the work and quality of fence materials better than the other companies we got estimates from, but the other companies wanted several hundred dollars to remove and haul away the brush. We will confidently recommend them to neighbors and friends.

We are extremely happy with the fence install and the whole process working with MC Fence and Deck. Everyone from their front office to their sales people and their install staff were completely professional throughout the whole process. They were extremely proactive and responsive and even checked in with me several times to notify me of the timing of the install and made sure I was comfortable with everything that was about it happen on the day of the install. Speaking of which, they installed 290ft of fence all in one day. It is solid, sturdy and has a quality feel. They did a great job clearing the underbrush where it was needed and worked to identify the best way to position around a couple of large trees so that the finished product looked its best. At the end of the day they cleaned everything up and you wouldn't haven't even known they were there except that there was now a great looking fence in place. They obviously take pride in their work and I would highly recommend MC Fence and Deck.

It's hard to find dependable, reliable, hard working companies these days. They were great and awesome and customer service was above and beyond! HIGHLY recommend them and would use them again if the time comes!
