We just bought a house. The seller of the house gave us a quote from Gibbs painting. I called the number provided in the quote and asked of another quote to which I was replied I will call you back with a quote. So i waiting for 3 days then called him back and left a message. I never got a call back from him. So unprofessional. Never get anything done from them. If they are so unprofessional before even starting the work, I wouldn't be surprise if they leave the work half and stop receiving your calls.

As explained above.
Description of Work: I called Mr Gibbs after waiting 2 months for another provider to repair and paint my ceiling in my kitchen that had water damage and needed repair and painting. My ceiling is approx 25/15 sq ft. Mr Gibbs gave me a price substantially lower than I was previously quoted and I spoke with him about sanding down my front door and painting it a red color. He suggested I use McCormick paint because it is factory mixed and holds up much longer. He was here the next day brought the colors, I chose one and he and his associate Nala performed the work well beyond my expectations. In addition I spoke to Mr Gibbs about painting out my downstairs halfway up the stairs and the hallway upstairs which includes some very high ceilings. He suggested a gray color which I liked immediately. He also brought those colors for me. He has given us a quote for this work which I believe is vey fair, but I need to hold on for right now ( but not for long Mr Gibbs). I would recommend Gibbs Painting to anyone looking for a quality job done the riight way. Thank You Chris Wilcox

Everything went better than could ever have been expected. Ray Gibbs himself was on the job to supervise especially in the beginning and in the end but also several times before his crew had finished. He was involved in all aspects on the job. His crew was excellent, they always arrived on time and cleaned up afterwards. they were professional and pleasant to work with. I have no complaints and would highly recommend them. I could not be happier with the paint job. We had several highly rated painters from Angie's list give us estimates. Gibbs painting was at the lower end and was recommended to me by my decorator. I will use them again once I have the energy to continue painting the upstairs. The piece de resistance however are the built-in shelves. I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the unit. It was designed by my decorator, however the real test was putting the simple picture with minimal direction into a usable unit The craftsmanship is top notch and the unit itself makes a WOW statement. I just need the energy now to fill the shelves with artwork and books. Most importantly, Ray Gibbs was flexible and put up with several changes that I made as we went through this process, graciously. his croup worked up until Christmas Eve and Ray himself came back the day after Christmas to install the TV brackets.

Gibbs Painting did a remarkable job. I had new light fixtures and put all up except for the foyer light. It in a 2 story foyer. Mr. Gibbs called me to ask if I needed that installed since was on the ladder anyway. Told them I can do it later. Got home a light was up. I cannot say enough good things about Gibbs Painting. As a Realtor in Northern Virginia, I have seen some nasty looking jobs. I always, always recommend him to my clients. Have never ever heard a bad word or comment. The job on my home took a week as the whole entire home was painted. 2 coats on ceilings and walls, 1 coat on trim and doors. While in the middle of this project my wife decided she wanted our corner oak fireplace painted white. Gibbs got right on it. All in all the house looks like a model home. My home is 45+ years old. They did a remarkable job on making the cut lines straight. Not easy on a home with that much wear. Came out great. Without any hesitation I would highly recommend Gibbs Painting!

great competitive estimate, prompt, Ray even did some of the work to help his crew. His workers were nice, respectable, trustworthy and were left in my house unattended. They did a great job cleaning up at the end of the day. They even did a little extra work like clean a high picture window that hasn't been cleaned in 13 years or some of the recess lighting cases and foyer lights. I would use them again.

Ray Gibbs and his team helped us finish our basement. We had done some of the work ourselves, but just couldn't find the time to finish it. I'm glad we called Ray because our basement came out better than we could've hoped. Rodney, Ray's carpenter, first came in and built columns in our basement (man cave), to give it the theater look. He then trimmed every nook and cranny in the basement, including crown, baseboard, and numbers corners, nooks and crannies. We opted for leaving the 70's paneling up, so there was a lot of trim. Rodney also created an under the stairs door for us from scratch as ordering one to fit the space would have been too expensive in his opinion. I had the privilege of watching him work a little, and it was obvious that he truly loves what he does, and is very good at it. Ray then came in and did prep work for the painters, caulking gaps and imperfections. The painting crew followed up, and did a great job. We had picked out the color for the trim, and once up, we didn't care for it. When they came back for a second coat, they happily redid all the work. The price was well worth the quality we got. We had received another quote which was less from another company, but i could never get a hold of our contact, and there seemed to be a constant misunderstanding with what we wanted. Ray, on the other hand, was very easy to contact and communicate with through the entire process. You get what you pay for. We look forward to working with Ray and his team of professionals in our future projects.

Ray and his crew of painters were punctual and polite. There was a crew of four painters in our house for about a week and a half, and they did an excellent job throughout the process. Ray was very helpful when I was choosing colors, and had samples mixed so that I could see them on the wall. Because he did that, I changed several of my colors and I was really pleased that I did. The results are terrific. Possibly the trickiest part of the project was painting our wood handrails and tread on the stairs. We'd had our hardwood floors restained to a different color; so that left the question of what to do with the rails and tread upstairs, which had matched the old color of our floors. Ray's painters applied a glossy dark brown paint to the rails and the tread, and painted the spindles a bright white. The results were stunning. The painters even arranged to come do the rails over Labor Day weekend when we would be out of town, since that particular type of oil-based paint takes longer to dry and has more of an odor. We really appreciated the fact that they went above and beyond to get that done. Since I was doing a whole-house facelift, I asked Ray if he could also install some new light fixtures and change the hardware on our doors. It was a very time consuming job, but Ray did it himself and did a really nice job. We may need to put him on speed dial for future projects.
Description of Work: Painted the interior of about 2/3 of our house, including trim, ceilings, handrails on stairs; installed new light fixtures, door handles, hinges and other hardware.

Ray and his crew were fabulous to work with. They repainted the entire interior of our house including all the stair rails, doors, and baseboards. The quality of the work is top notch and the crew was polite and professional and even cleaned up after themselves everyday. Ray was endlessly patient with us and came back numerous times to touch up the walls after further construction dinged them up. He was even kind enough to hang some light fixtures for us when our contractor refused to do it. We will be calling Ray for all our painting needs from now on.

Ray Gibbs and his staff powerwashed and stained my deck, painted the exterior and portions of the interior of my home, and did numerous drywall repairs, in addition to replacing several light fixtures. I had estimates from 2 other companies, and the quote from Gibbs Painting was comparable with the other two. Ray was very flexible in scheduling the work. He and his workers were prompt, courteous, and showed up when they said they would. They cleaned up at the end of each day. My deck had been neglected by the previous homeowner, and was in such bad shape that I wasworried I was going to have to replace all the wood floor boards. Ray was able to clean and preserve the wood and made it look great! I was home for part of the powerwashing and was able to see how detailed he was in insuring that he covered every inch of the deck. I had several large sections of drywall that needed repair, in addition to repairs to the ceilings where the new light fixtures were installed. I must say that I was extremely pleased at the drywall repairs. When I have had drywall repaired in the past I have been able to "see" where the hole was, but Ray's repairs made the wall look like it had never been damaged. Ray assisted me with choosing colors for the painting I had done. The colors looked great, and the painters were meticulous. I am very happy with the results of the work that Gibbs Painting performed for me. I have recommended them to many friends, neighbors, and family members.

I would like to say that this is the first bad review I have EVER placed on Angie's List. I did get quotes from several painters. Mr. Gibbs' company price quote was in the middle. It wasn't the cheapest, but it wasn't the most expensive. I went with Mr. Gibbs due to a recommendation, but also because of his high rating on Angie's List and the BBB, The whole process in regards to cleanup and arrival went fine. It was the end product that was TERRIBLE. Clearly they did not use painter's tape to make clean lines between the accent walls and the regular walls. and the foyer walls and the hallway They also did not use it during when painting the trim and walls either. Now Mr. Gibbs (and other quotes that I have recieived from painters) did warn me that the trim the hallway was for some reason painted a long time ago with an oil base, I was told that there might be some peeling. There was worse peeling than there was originally. The doors in the hallway were new. But Mr. Gibbs' painters must have improperly prepare the new door for painting because the new door is now peeling. Lightplates and edges of the hallway walls have bumps and ridges and gaps between them. Plus there is a dribble by one of the face plates. I asked Mr. Gibbs to fix one the areas by the lighting plates while they were performing the work. He did so with worse results so I did not mention anything else to him because I did not want anythign worse. He also placed recessed lighting. I am pretty happy with this however I learned from reading online that he should have placed them in BEFORE painting which is why one or 2 lights have a gap in between it and the ceiling (it's barely noticeable). I could have Mr. Gibbs come out and fix this, but why? He did not do a good job in fixing the few things that I did ask him to repair. So what I am doing instead is hiring another company to try and fix some of these things and then leaving a bad review. What else can I do?
Description of Work: -Wall paper removal in one room, Painting with stripes down one wall in 1 bedroom, Painting in other 2 bedrooms with accent wall, Painting in Hallway, stairwell, livingroom, Playroom (where wall paper removal was), kitchen and bottom stairwell and foyer and downstairs hallway -Had approximately 45 recessed lighting put in plus a new chandelier placed as well

Response from Gibbs Painting
The work at Mrs. R's house was done in a professional manner with experienced painters. The painters who worked on the project have an average of 11 years experience and have been employed by Gibbs Painting a minimum of 4 years. The recessed light housings were installed in the ceiling before the painting was done. The light trims(the part you can see) were installed after the painting. We do not install the light trims before painting since this is the part you can see, and it is possible for paint to get on them while painting. Mrs. R's doors were new (installed by others before Gibbs Painting started) but her door FRAMES were existing and had underlying oil base paint which had been painted over by others (not Gibbs Painting) with latex paint without being properly primed. Due to this error (by the previous painters), you could scratch off the existing paint with your fingernail. Per Mrs. R, and our proposal, we primed just the peeling areas on the door frames with oil based primer. Mrs. Rahsid didn’t want to go to the cost of priming the entire door frames when only a few areas were peeling - she was not concerned with priming the areas that were not peeling. The new doors in her house had a factory primer on them and were finish coated by Gibbs Painting and are not peeling. In her review Mrs. R states “the new door in the hallway”, in fact she had six new doors in her home, but all her door frames were existing from the time the home was built. After the painting was completed, Mrs. R had new carpet installed in her home. I believe that during the installation of the new carpet, the abrasive backing rubbed the door frames and caused them to peel. I’ve seen a carpet installation damage a paint job dozens of times before. If you’ve ever watched carpet being installed you know that it rubs up against painted surfaces. Professional painters possess the skills needed to cut in straight lines between one color and an accent color without using painters tape. But, these lines can only be as straight as the drywall angles where one wall meets another. Painters tape is used to protect a non-painted surface that is near a painted surface in a very tight area. Painters tape is also for “do-it-yourself” homeowners that paint infrequently and haven’t developed professional skills. The drywall in Mrs. R's home is 40 years old and is not in optimal condition due to poor workmanship when the home was originally built and subsequent painting. Regarding the light switch plates- All of them were removed before painting and then reinstalled after painting. Mrs. R ask us to repair the drywall around two of the plates, which we did, and this repair made a vast improvement in the appearance of the drywall in that area . When I viewed Mrs. R's negative review I was shocked. The work we did in her home made it look great and it was done to our high standards of quality. Throughout the entire project Mrs. R had nothing but positive comments on our work. She seemed completely pleased with the final results. If it was possible for Angie’s List members to view our work in her home I am sure they would agree with me.

Ray Gibbs of Gibbs painting has been doing my painting for about 4-5 years now. I am a Northern VA realtor and highly recommend him to my clients. He is, later this week, starting another job for me in Ashburn. $3,300 bucks on a home the tenants trashed. Gibbs painting has never let me down, always showed up when they were supposed to and the work they do has been very very good. Again, if you need painting, Gibbs Painting is the one to go to. Gibbs Painting has also done some work at my home too.

I was very pleased with Gibbs Painting. They were very professional and patient during the estimate and while I was picking out all the paint colors we would be using in each room. I would recommend using this company and plan to use their services again in the future.
