Description of Work: They installed a new granite counter top and removed the old one. We got to pick our own piece of granite from a store and they helped us select appropriate edges for the size of our kitchen and where the granite was laid. |With extra piece of the cutout from the sink they made me a small trivet too. The best part is the way they join the slabs of granite together you can barely see the seam. Like dove tailing a drawer. Very pleased with their work.

Description of Work: Piece of granite in the kitchen had moved away from the wall. This was installed 10 years ago by another company. Christian had the 2 man crew come out and evaluate the situation. They were prompt, courteous and fixed the piece at no charge to us even though it was another company that had installed it and did not glue it down.

They are spectacular. Their pricing is a little bit higher than average but you get what you pay for. I had another company which installed granite which wasn’t cut properly and Dominion came in and redid it. People tell me my countertops are beautiful all the time. The people who work at Dominion are professional and know what they are talking about. They can educate you on granite and help you make a good decision for you. I would highly recommend them.

This was our first experience with granite counter-tops, and we selected Dominion as our fabricator after shopping a number of competitors. Dominion offered the combination of service and price. They advised and educated us on the process, suggested vendors for the granite slabs, and performed the fabrication and subsequent install flawlessly. The hand-off from the stone dealer went smoothly, and everything worked out very well. Dominion is very skilled and professional, and we would certainly use them again!
Description of Work: Dominion fabricated and installed new kitchen counter-tops and sink. They also did the tear-out of our old counter-tops. We selected the pieces of granite for our new counter-tops from stone dealers (they way this process usually works).

Our under-mount stainless steel sink slowly started coming apart from our granite kitchen counter top. After searching the internet and calling about 9 places whose websites claimed they worked with granite, and did kitchen remodeling and plumbing, I finally found Dominion. They were the *only* ones who indicated they could do the repairs. (Actually, one other place said they could do the repairs, and then called back 20 minutes before their scheduled appointment and said, that "actually there's been a misunderstanding, we can't do your repairs. You should call the building contractors who installed the original granite." As if that's remotely feasible in a building built 5 years ago...) Spoke with Eric Decker to schedule my appointment. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, understood my problem immediately, and told me the reason Dominion got into "granite repairs" is because they realized there was such a great need for it, and there was virtually no-one else filling that need. Austin Uvorski (?) did the repairs. He actually lives in DC, so he came out and did the work at "off hours" (i.e. 6:30pm - 8pm) on his way home. He explained exactly what happened, (construction-grade facets on the construction-grade granite counter tops don't hold up after several years,) and what he did to fix the problem, i.e. installing new facets, and adding additional support for the sink using two-by-fours.
Description of Work: Re-attached under-mount stainless steel sink to our granite kitchen counter top.

After trying many different stone fabricators, our first experience with Dominion sealed the deal and we use them exclusively for more than 5 years. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and professional. They use the the latest techniques for measuring/templating and their installation is always perfect. Customer service and responsiveness are key to their success. I've seen many not-so-perfect installations by other fabricators which makes me appreciate their quality and service even more. I'm no longer in the remodeling business but they are the only company I would use and recommend to friends.
Description of Work: I have used Dominion for numerous personal home improvement projects (Kitchen, Master Bath, Wet Bar & Bathroom Vanity) and they were my provider of choice for granite/quartz counters as the owner of a remodeling general contracting company.

First the master bathroom was implemented. We were told that they were having staffing issue and their fabricator was off/out. Our schedule was not adhered to. When the two slabs were installed around the soaking tub, they had connecting seems at the head and foot of the granite, as planned. However, the seams where not shimmed to level. Rather, they were quickly installed by the install team at 6pm at the end of a long day elsewhere. In and out in what seemed like less than an hour. The seams were terrible - to the point where you could see shadow lines because one section was so much higher than the other. After complaining repeatedly, we finally got them to come back out, where we had to argue about the merits of the work. The, finally crawl under the tub to show them that there had been no attempt to shim the slabs to level. Reluctantly, Dominion's owners agreed to have the same install team come out. Rather than re-level, they simply ground the uneven part of the granite away to level the two pieces, resulting in a shinny appearance along the seam on a granite piece that is intended to have a matt finish. Ugh. Second the kitchen counter tops. Where to begin?! Under one 24 inch cabinet, which was mounted between two drywall columns, the granite was installed with an overhang of 1" on the left side and over 21/2" on the right side. Meaning the slab was actually 1 1/2" out of plane over a 24" length, clearly visible to the layman, but somehow not visible to the "experts" that manage and install for Dominion. Additionally, we had two stone columns on either side of a wolf range + 24" lower cabinet section. The columns had countertop level coves where we could partially hide cooking that would remain on the counter. Despite reminding the measuring/templating personnel of this, and providing architectural diagrams, the granite was fabricated with a blunt cut at the stone columns, not allowing the counter top to extend into the coves - approximately 8"x!2" area. Then the install team installed them! Leaving an 8"x12" section of bare plywood. Again, when we complained, it was suggested that we cover the areas with other material (that would butt up against the granite and look terrible). Only after repeated complaints up the chain of command that this was not what we specified and ordered did we get new sections fabricated. Another issue involved the sink side counter top. It was installed with a 1/2" slope to the back, rather than level. This had several impacts, including countertop water polling to the rear and creating an unsightly gap between the pre0installed teak backsplash (part of the cabinet configuration) and the countertop that can not be covered by molding or trim it is so wide of a gap. When we complained about this and asked why with all this laser technology would you install a countertop this way and not just simply shim to level, we were told it was not their responsibility and Dominion Granite attempted to blame the craftsman carpenter in site, and the contractor who installed the cabinets - the former whom they met repeatedly and coordinated with on-site. When we withheld payment for this and repeatedly ask for it to be corrected, we received a letter from their attorney, rather than simply doing what they said they would do. Third, the 8' x 6' Kitchen Island. This was a full bull nose around the perimeter which involved 1/2' bull nosing two pieces of granite, sticking them together to give the appearance of a 3" think piece of granite and a full boll nose perimeter. As you can expect, this was an expensive decision for us but we made the investment thinking it would be a signature piece for the house which we hope to convert to a wedding facility in our retirement. Once again, the fabrication was shoddy. The upper bull nose that was visible to the eye was done correctly. The matching bottom was done quickly, without regard to smoothness and consistency. When you stand near and/or lean on the island, you fingers naturally touch the bottom portion and it is very apparent that this is a situation where the top doesn't match the bottom. We're not OCD perfectionist types. We're good people. We work hard. We tell the truth. We expect people to do what they say. We were/are VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH DOMINION GRANITE'S PERFORMANCE. The marketing was slick, but shallow. The pricing was over market. The fabrication was poor. The install was poor. The service was poor and led to significant delays. And, the problem resolution by the management team was at best grudging, and at worse litigious. DOMINION GRANITE IS THE ONLY VENDOR OUT OF 20+ WE USED IN OUR FULL GUT REMODEL THAT I RECOMMEND PROSPECTIVE BUYERS STEAR CLEAR OF. THEY DO NOT PERFORM AS THEIR IMAGE MIGHT SUGGEST.
Description of Work: We are a family of 7 that invested in a full gut remodel of our home in Purcellville, VA. This included, and Dominion Granite was selected and contracted for, the following: - complete kitchen remodel to include many square feet of granite countertops, coffee bar, and 8-foot island - master bathroom remodel to include many square feet of granite in coffee bar, soaking tub, and double bowl vanity - other bathroom(s) with granite counter tops The project involved multiple slabs of expensive grade granite, architectural drawings of each implementation, on-site support for Dominion Granite from stay-homeowners, GC, lead Carpenter, Electricians, and Plumbers. GC, carpenter. The overall project involved more that 20 contractors and cost more than $600,000 to execute. This is the only contractor where we felt we did not get the service, quality, and deliverables for which we contracted. I recommend that you DO NOT USE THIS VENDOR. They come across as professionals. They promote their laser measurement system as evidence of their attention to detail. They serve you expensive coffee in their office. Because we were dealing with expensive slabs, we didn't want to to shortchange the fabrication and selected Dominion based on there appearance as a top tier fabricators. We even swallowed h****** their pricing which was/is considerably more than the competitive bids we received. WE WERE WRONG TO CHOOSE THIS VENDOR. There are much better craftsman out there - we employed some to complete the job, at much better prices, who don;t promise one level of service and quality and deliver another. Again, we recommend that you DO NOT USE THIS VENDOR. To much overhead and marketing, not enough operational craftsman and service.

Response from Dominion Granite & Marble
After attempting to pacify this customer for several months we were never permitted to resolve any issues. This customer was found to be in the wrong by his bank and his credit card company. We attempted to resolve the issue by offering to remove the customers counters and having his cabinet company install level cabinets. We were told that we could not. We asked if we could send in a third party to review the installation and were told that we could not. The customer repeatedly changed vital installation components during the project which resulted in countertops that did not fit properly. It is very difficult to make a countertop that fits well when cabinets are moved and tile is installed in the time between measuring and installing a countertop. This customer was informed that leaving disparaging and fraudulent information online was forbidden by the resolution proposal.

They were very helpful before we ever picked out the granite to explain types of granite and limitations associated with different types. Their showroom was helpful in our decision regarding a particular granite and the use of granite for the backsplash. They couldn't have been nicer. They were slightly delayed in starting the installation but kept us well informed. They made an cutting error on the backsplash which I noticed and they acknowledged. They readily re-cut more granite to complete the project. They did an excellent job matching pieces to minimize seam lines and somehow extended the look up the backsplash. We are very happy with the results. We also talked to them about doing a fireplace surround but they did not have granite scrap pieces we were interested in and actually recommended a competitor they thought would have what we wanted.

We went down to look at the granite. They spent a lot of time showing us all of the granite. That was a very positive experience. They actually messed up on the cut of our granite, so actually fulfilling the job turned out to not be very good. I had taken our faucet with us so they could figure out how to cut the granite. They should have put a hole in the granite for us, but they ended up cutting three holes. They rectified the problem by purchasing us a specific faucet to fit the granite. They ended up not sending the right one, so it ended up taking two weeks to fix the problem. They were personable and professional, which was unusual for the granite business.
