The vendor cost estimates for cabinets and countertop. However, was still looking for additional info on other desired features before providing an overall project cost estimate.
Description of Work: I received an estimate for a kitchen remodel. The owner's wife provided information on companies they work with so that I could continue my planning prior to the actual onsite visit. I met with their designer at Reico prior to the onsite estimate. I worked with Stephanie several times on cabinet styles as my desires evolved. The day of the estimate both the designer and the owner arrived on time/a little early. They worked as a team to get pictures, understand my vision, discuss options and answer questions I had if they were selected. One of the cabinet companies Reico with had the style cabinet door I was interested in , however it was not all wood. It had a veneer center pane. Consequently, I decided not to go with Collins Tile and Stone for the project. The cost estimates provided were in the same range of the other vendors evaluated.

Buck worked with us for nearly a year. We met him and talked about the project and decided to pull the trigger on everything about 10 months later. During that time, we continued to check in as we picked out tile, colors, etc. Buck also hooked us up with a very reasonably priced designer for our master bathroom. Timeliness: Hire Collins Tile if you want your contractor to show up on time. They were never late and often arrived 15 minutes early. Cleanliness: I was expecting a disaster area on demo day. It was quite the opposite and the team was very respectful of our living space. They walled off the work area with plastic to minimize the dust. Reporting: Every night, Buck emails you with the progress for the day and gives you a heads up for the next day. Teamwork: Buck is absolutely on your team. He takes his recommendations seriously and never covers for the mistakes of vendors (not that there were any major mistakes). Creative: We missed that the kid's bathroom was to be a single sink, but we actually wanted a double. Buck's man Steve looked at a picture of the vanity (which was all set to be a single) and created a double vanity out of it! We were looking at a $1,000+ mistake and Steve made it disappear. Amazing! One anecdote, we were with some neighbors that asked how our bathrooms were coming. We told them: "they are 99% complete." The neighbors were shocked. You see, they had hired a different company to remodel the same number of bathrooms and their job started on the same day as ours. At that point, they were only about 33% complete! So, shop around but if you start to see prices stabilize at a level you can handle and Collins tile is within 10-15% of your range, hire them. I cannot express the headache you will be saving yourself.
Description of Work: Remodeled three bathrooms: The master bath was completely gutted. We worked within the existing space to enlarge the shower. This meant moving the toilet (plumbing) and covering a window. In addition, we put in a double vanity where previously there was only one sink. The shower was tiled, a built in nook was added, and a seat, and the entire thing was enclosed with frameless glass. We decided to put in a light/fan combo in the shower. The floor was tiled as well. Electrical outlets were moved and the bathroom was wired for new lighting. Finally, we installed a pocket door to save on space. The powder room was tiled with an accent wall, new vanity, new floor tiling, and a new door was added. The "kid's bath" was tiled, a new double vanity was installed, a light/fan combo was added, new medicine cabinet, new toilet. Outlets were moved (and added). I should add that we used granite in both the master and kid's bathrooms. Also, at every point we didn't use tile we put in new drywall. There are things missing from this list but as Buck says: "there are a thousand moving pieces to a bathroom remodel!"

The experience went extremely well from start to finish. From the initial consultation, it was very clear Mr. Collins was well-versed in his trade and focused on professionalism and successful project outcome. He provided a realistic, detailed cost estimate (side note: I got estimates from four of the top Angieslist companies and the price range was all over the place). We agreed on project scope and set a start date. The construction team showed up on time and the project manager spent time talking with me about details and answering my questions. They protected the areas outside the bathroom and cleaned up at the end of each day. They completed the work within the designated time frame and exceeded expectations in work performance. For example, the custom cabinet I bought from Home Depot was delivered with a drawer instead of a flat panel front. Instead of me having to send it back to the fabricator which would have delayed the project weeks, the Collins team modified the cabinet at no cost and it looks great. They also fixed a plumbing problem that was discovered during the project. I called Collins several weeks after project completion about a minor detail I wanted adjusted and they were out to make the adjustment within the week. With other home projects I have done with various other contractors, I have found I've had to carefully monitor what the contractors were doing and make corrections where things were overlooked. With the Collins team, I learned that they could be trusted to do the job right with great professional ability. I am very pleased with the end result and that the Collins team was so good to work with makes it all even better. I definitely recommend Collins Tile and Stone.
Description of Work: Project scope entailed demolition and new construction for a 5' x 7' hall bathroom. Collins provided the wall and floor tile, bathtub, and construction materials. I provided the vanity, sink, toilet, medicine cabinet, light fixture, and fan separately.

We contacted Collins Tile and Stone based upon their ratings on Angie's List and arranged for an in home visit to estimate the cost of the project. They returned my call almost immediately and arranged an appointment within a couple of days. Buck Collins arrive on time and did what all contractors do, took measurements and looked the project over; then he did something extraordinary, he sat down with us for over an hour and explained exactly what he was going to do and why he was going to do it that way. We have never had a contractor do that before. As it turned out we had to delay the job for 6 months but Buck honored his original estimated price. When we contacted them and told them that we were ready to start they worked with us and gave us a projected start date a couple of weeks out. As the time got closer Dana emailed me to give us a confirmed start date. Day One: The TEAM from Collins (Peter the lead mechanic, his assistant Keith and the Project Manager Steve) arrived on-time and ready to work at the appointed time. They introduced themselves and explained what they were going to do. Steve made sure everything was ready to go and that Peter and Keith had everything they needed and then left them to start the work. Peter and Keith moved all the appliances and performed the demolition, laid the plywood base and prepared the floor for laying the tile That evening I got an email from Buck to check on the progress and our assessment of the job to this point. Day Two: Peter and Keith arrived at 7:30 am ready to work and started to lay the tile. I have never seen such craftsmanship; since the tiles were large format, patterned and set in a diagonal pattern they spent a while making sure that the first tile was exactly right (two guys on their knees with tape measures). Once they got the initial tile just right they started laying tile. Peter laying and Keith cutting. Peter is a craftsman; every so often you could hear him muttering that the next tile out of the box was not right for the pattern he wished to have so he would go back out and get another until he had achieved the pattern he had visualized for our floor. Keith is a trooper, outside in cool weather making the tile cuts that were required and helping Peter lay the tile so that the job was perfect. Again that evening I got an email from Buck to check on the progress and our assessment of the job to this point. Day Three to Day Four: Peter and Keith arrived each day at 7:30 am ready to work. They continued to lay the tile floor with all the attention to detail that I would expect from the craftsmen that they are. On day three we moved their equipment into the garage as the weather turned colder. They were careful and kept the garage clean during the entire project. As before on each of the previous days, in the evening I got an email from Buck to check on the progress and our assessment of the job to this point. Day Five: Peter and Keith arrived at 7:30 am ready to work. They prepared the tile for the grout and then proceeded to grout the floor. When they had finished the initial grouting they walked the floor making sure that the grouting was perfect. They then had my wife and I do a final inspection to make sure that the tile not only met but exceeded our expectations, which it did. At the end of day five they reinstalled the dishwasher and moved the refrigerator and washer and dryer back into place. They policed the job site to make sure that everything was clean and removed all trash and tile remnants so there was nothing for us to do except admire the new tile floor. I would like to commend Peter and Keith on their professionalism and pride they take in their work. The tile is perfect and we are thrilled. Buck called to check on the progress of the project and to let me know that even though it was supposed to snow the next day he planned on having his master carpenter on-site to do the trim work (he has a 4 wheel drive company truck). Day Six: We met a new member of TEAM Collins, Zach. Buck gave me a call to tell me that Steve and Zach (the Master Carpenter) were on their way to our house, even though it had snowed the night before. They arrived and Steve introduced Zach. We discussed a small water leak from the dishwasher that we had noticed and Steve explained that the dishwasher needed to be leveled so that the check valve would work correctly Steve made sure that Zach understood what needed to be done and had everything he needed and then left him to perform his magic (transforming the fantastic into the WOW!) Zach installed all the oak shoe molding and transitions throughout the kitchen, pantry and laundry room, as you can imagine there were a lot of cuts. What a craftsman; all the miner cuts are perfect and I looked at each one. It drives me crazy when I see sloppy joints. He caulked the joint between the slider and the tile. He leveled the dishwasher so that it did not leak. Before he left he had my wife and I do a final inspection to make sure that the project was completed to our satisfactions. While at first glance the cost of the job seemed a bit high, after reading over the estimate in detail and speaking with Buck we decided to use Collins Tile and Stone for our job. We are certainly glad we did. The professionalism and attention to detail was well work any cost differential between them and their competition.
Description of Work: This job entailed replacement of the original builders grade Linoleum floor with a new Ceramic Tile floor in the Kitchen, Pantry and adjoining Laundry Room.

After seeing glowing reviews of Collins Tile and Stone we called Buck in early September 2012. After speaking with Dana (Buck's office manager) she explained their process about how they do their estimating, which requires quite a bit of our involvement and effort prior to even that first meeting. What they explained and what I read in the reviews from others, the process made perfect sense and would ensure we got EXACTLY what we wanted and a fair estimate. We decided to move forward with Collins Tile and we made an appointment to meet with Buck the end of September. In the mean time, Dana sent us a list of their preferred vendors (it was quite extensive) and recommended I review the website Houzz to get some inspiration. Before we met with Buck we had selected our tile, fixtures, bathtub, shower etc. It did take quite a bit of time on our part, but I'm very glad we did the work up front. We met with Buck on a weekday in the afternoon that was convenient to both of our schedules. Buck spent quite a bit of time talking to us about what we wanted and what was reasonable and possible for our space and bathroom. He had some suggestions and recommendations, but the final decision was always ours. He had completed a job in our neighborhood earlier that fall and he was able to arrange for us to visit the homeowner and talk to her about her experience. Her review (on Angie's list) was glowing and she had good things to say when we visited with her. Buck took our tile and plumbing selections and crafted an estimate that he provided to us about a week or less after visiting with us in September. We really had a good feeling about Buck and he had such glowing reviews we decided to move forward and contract with Collins to do our bathroom. Collins Tile and Stone is a smallish operation which allows Buck to oversee things (a huge bonus if you ask me) and they are quite in demand so we weren't able to schedule start of work until the middle of January but we were willing to wait. Dana made it very clear to us when we first contacted them what their production schedule was likely to be, estimate the end of September and if we chose to move forward, start of work Dec/Jan timeframe. Fast forward to January and the work got started. I was very impressed that Buck was at my house first thing that Monday morning. I was to find out he would stop by quite often to oversee or discuss anything of concern. The demolition took about a day or so and they quickly got to work roughing things in etc. Considering what was going on, they were very clean and respectful of our house and things. I was consulted about just about everything and Steve was great about making recommendations for thing and I was greatly appreciative of his knowledge and experience! The quality of the work is impressive. I'm a stickler for details and I am very happy! I took pictures of each day's progress and I can say that Buck does not cut corners or take shortcuts. He IS Collins Tile and Stone and he makes sure the work meets his exacting standards. I can't praise him or his craftsmen enough. After about 2.5-3pretty smooth weeks the main work was complete and we were gradually able to start using a portion of the bathroom. We had to wait a bit longer for the frameless glass shower enclosure because it was a custom order. Of the whole job I can count 6 relatively small issues that arose. 1. The towel bars were overlooked and didn't get ordered or included in the estimate and I overlooked ordering a couple of small items (but those were all my responsiblility to check and order). The items were quickly added to the invoice and ordered once we discovered they were missing and there were no further issues. 2. I felt the accent strip in the shower enclosure was first installed about 6 inches too high and I requested that, if possible, it be lowered. Buck came by the next morning to see for himself and he agreed with me and the tile was removed from the wall and replaced at the lower level. No questions asked and absolutely no push back. 3. One of the holes in the granite countertop wasn't exactly straight so the faucet wasn't sitting right. The countertop guy came right over and fixed it ASAP. 4. The faucet connectors that fasten it to the countertop weren't long enough and we had to get an extension kit. That took a few days to arrive but was no big deal at all. 5. One of the panels of the glass enclosure was not cut correctly at the factory and had to be re-ordered (one of those things) and there was a week delay in having that installed while the new panel was rush fabricated. The glass guy was beyond apologetic and conerned that I was upset. 6. There was a small leak/seep at one of the brackets of the glass shower enclosure. We informed Buck via email and he contacted the glass guy and who came over at a time most convenient for us and fixed it. I think these were all VERY minor things and in a regular job probably not even worth mentioning. Everything was resolved quickly and painlessly. Buck was, and continues to be, very communicative and responsive at all times of the day or week including when he is ill and in the Dr. office! Throughout the job I got an email from Buck at least once a day to check with me to make sure we were happy with the day's progress and if we had ANY concerns or questions. Anything we did ask about was answered quickly and honestly. I can't say enough good things about Buck and everyone who works for Collins Tile and Stone from Dana and her office crew to Keith, Peter and Steve who mainly worked on our job. Buck has also screened his vendors to ensure they meet his high standards for customer service and satisfaction. That also made the job go much smoother. The list of vendors provided was extensive so I didn't feel like I was being steered into using any one source for materials. I'm sure we could have had our bathroom remodeled for less $$ but I am confident things were done the right way and will last for many years to come. I felt we definitely got good value for our money and I would most certainly recommend Collins Tile and Stone to anyone contemplating having this sort of work done. Buck embodies integrity and honesty. He would not take payments early (before certain stages of the job were complete) and his pricing and estimating was upfront and open. I would definitely use his company in the future for any work we might have.

The job was started sooner than expected which was appreciated by us and took six work days to complete. The installers did an excellent job; they were very good with the fine details of the installation. They were careful about protecting our home as they worked in the basement. Buck Collins (the owner) did an excellent job of communicating with us as the job progressed; this included daily visits or phone calls. In addition Buck provided considerable info and suggestions about the installation methods and materials of the job. In short they delivered what was promised; it was an excellent overall experience for us.
Description of Work: The work was to install about 750 sq. feet of ceramic tile on the floor of a finished basement and bath.

The employee accidentally dropped hot solder in the tub and melted the tub. The owner was very nice and said he would come and redo the whole thing. It would have taken an extra two weeks to do the work, and we really wanted the work completed. They found a gentleman who does acrylic tub repair who came in and repaired it instead.

I couldn't have been more pleased with the entire experience. When I started looking for contractors, I was a bit anxious about the project, and the first several people I spoke to did nothing to make me feel better about the prospect. Then after reading the reviews on Angie's List, I called Collins Tile and Stone. After meeting with Buck and discussing the remodel, I felt completely assured, and I knew I had found the right person for the job. Buck's knowledge and professionalism are unmatched, but beyond that, he also cares about creating the best result possible and giving his customer complete satisfaction. At our first meeting he spent a great deal of time going over the plan with me and offering suggestions that made the final outcome exceed my expectations. Buck provides a list of vendors for all the materials that you will need, and it is the customer's job to meet with them to pick out the tile, cabinets, fixtures, etc. While this takes a bit of time, it also gives you a chance to see a variety of products from high quality vendors so that you have lots of options and can make informed decisions on what will go into your makeover. I was very happy with all the vendors I dealt with. They were knowledgeable and extremely helpful in making my choices. Buck then places the orders and arranges the delivery so all you have to do is select the products. Once work began, I continued to be very pleased with Collins Tile and Stone. All of the workmen were friendly and polite, and showed a great deal of respect for my home. They cleaned up before leaving every day, and there was never a mess. They all took a great deal of pride in their work, and took the time and trouble to do the best job possible. I was particularly impressed by Yuri, who did the tile work on the shower. He spent time with me going over several options on the design, and his tilework was impeccable. The result was stunning. I had a deadline for completion of the work, as my family was coming in from out of town for the holidays. Buck arranged his schedule so that he could start in time to get the work done, and he had the project completed on time, which I greatly appreciated. Could I have paid less to have my bathroom renovated? Yes. Would I have been as happy with the results? Absolutely not. You get what you pay for, and with Collins Tile and Stone you get the best. The materials used were top quality and the workmen highly skilled. Buck personally monitored the progress and was in touch with me almost daily to report on how things were going and ask if I had any questions or concerns. Any time I contacted him with a question he got back to me almost immediately with the answer. I could not have been more impressed with the way the project was handled. One thing to keep in mind - a few items were not included in the estimate. I paid the vendors directly for the granite and the shower glass, so those costs were in addition to the charge from Collins Tile and Stone. Just make sure you are aware of any additional items you will be responsible for. I would give Collins Tile and Stone my highest recommendation. Buck and his workers are true craftsmen who take great pride in their work and deliver the highest quality results. It was a delight to work with them.
Description of Work: We did a complete remodel on our master bathroom, which meant entirely gutting the old bathroom and starting from scratch. We changed the location of the shower and vanities, added new electrical outlets, installed a tile floor and shower, put in a new air tub with tile surround and installed new vanities, lighting and mirrors.

We have plaster walls, and they don't work the same way as wallboard! To remove the old tile in our bathroom, we had to remove the plaster that they were built into. This meant stripping the bathroom down to the diagonal boards and studs. Having accomplished that on our own, we didn't realize that finding someone who actually knew how to plaster and do a mud floor would be our next problem. We found Collins Tile on Angie's List. We met with Buck Collins who clearly understood the scope of work necessary to restore the floor and walls. He was able to answer questions in detail. In addition, he understood what working with hand-made tile meant. He is much in demand, so we waited several months for the job to begin. Once it began, it took eight days to complete. Over the eight days, the crew arrived between 7 and 8 each morning and worked non-stop until they were done in the late afternoon. They were easy to communicate with, and it was great to see how the project unfolded. They are true craftsmen and take pride in doing a job right. The final results are beautiful.
Description of Work: We are renovating our 50's bathroom. Collins provided a new mud floor, plastered walls, installed tile, and finished the walls above the tile. We provided the tile and marble flooring, and Collins provided all materials for the walls, floor, and finishes.

I contacted Collins Tile on Monday morning, asking for a quote to repair another company's unsuccessful attempt at installing a glass/stone mosaic tile backsplash. Dana contacted me immediately, and quickly gave me the Bottom Line Upfront (minimum cost, their current schedule, etc), which I really appreciated, so that obviously there would be no misunderstandings later. However, even though they were currently scheduling for end of Feb/beginning of March, she said that a small job like mine might be able to be fit in. She said she'd talk to Buck and get back to me. Buck called me on Tuesday evening (which was New Year's Day, so obviously this man doesn't take much time off!!) to say that they were finishing up a couple other small jobs this week, and he could come by my house to see the job the following day, and that he would call me when he was ready to leave the prior job (since I would be at work). He then got all the details of the job from me, and told me enough about the materials to let me know that he knew what he was talking about, a heck of a lot more than I did! As arranged, Buck called me at 9:00 the next morning, and I met him at my house at around 10:00. He looked at the job, immediately started taking off the old work (since the adhesive material wasn't even holding the tiles anymore) to see what tiles could be salvaged, explaining things all the while. He said his team could be there in about an hour to install the tiles, and would come by the next day to grout. Sounded great to me! Buck then went off to buy materials. The two man team showed up about an hour later, and Buck showed them the job. He had actually bought a quick-drying adhesive that would allow the team to grout later that day, instead of coming back the next day!! How terrific is that? They worked steadily until the job was completely done, and it looks terrific! They left me with some grout sealer, and instructions to apply it 3 days later. I can't tell you how pleased I've been with the whole Collins Tile experience, from speaking with Dana on Monday morning, to Buck's follow-up email last evening to make sure I was satisfied. I greatly appreciate that they were able to fit me in, and did everything they could to reduce the amount of time from start to finish, even though at no point did I feel that anyone was cutting any sort of corner. Truly a joy of a company to do business with!

I contacted Collins Tile back in August 2012 based on the outstanding reviews in Angie's List. Prior to Buck's visit, I had already selected the tile, shower heads, and vanity. When Buck came to my house to review the job, I was able to to discuss my selections with him so that he would be able to more accurately provide an estimate. He also gave me some ideas as well as suggestions for alternatives. Subsequent to Buck's visit, I received the most thorough estimate, so I knew exactly what work would be performed and what materials would be used. I had explained to Buck my unfortunate experience with a prior kitchen renovation (the tile and counter top were discontinued AFTER the kitchen cabinets were delivered, necessitating much angst and work on my part to make new selections that were compatible with the cabinets), so he went out of his way to order the tile, vanity, etc. as soon as I signed the contract, ensuring that all of my selections were still available and could be used!! The work was conducted by one of Buck's team--Steve (PM), Peter, and Yuri-- Dec 5-19. Once demo began, the guys were at the house every day until completion. Steve was able to remove some funky plumbing from the old bathroom and install a new door frame to eliminate a bend in one of the walls so that I can install a shelf above the toilet. It was really interesting to see the progress of the work and the amount of detail needed to ensure that the walls and floor were waterproof. The team cleaned up at the end of each day and did their best to minimize the dust that inevitably appears during a renovation. Periodically, Buck either stopped by to check the progress or phoned to make sure that the work was progressing to my satisfaction. Buck uses all of the "latest" products of which the Tec grout is my favorite--it is permanently sealed and cleans up beautifully. I am a perfectionist, and Buck's team delivered a beautiful new bathroom that didn't need any additional clean-up or touch-up work on my part. Their work is meticulous and I would definitely recommend Collins Tile and Stone for any tile installations or bathroom renovation.

IMy husband and I were in the market for a new hall bathroom. Our home is 30 years old and when I say the hall bath was in dire need of an overhaul that is putting it mildly. I researched Bathroom Renovations on Angies List and was very impressed with the Collins Tile and Stone reviews and their website. Unbelievably Buck Collins did work at our home about 6 years previous to this job. Because that work was not performed under the auspices of Collins Tile and Stone, I did not immediately recognize Bucks name. However, when I contacted him via his website, he and his wife Dana recognized me and my husband. We told him what we needed and he came out to our house to discuss the renovation and work up an estimate. Just to let you know what kind of guy you are dealing with in Buck Collins, I need readers to know this. I have to be at work at 7:30 in the morning. Buck.came out to the house at 6:45 AM to accommodate my schedule. Not many people would do that and the gesture was very much appreciated. A few days after Bucks visit to the house, we received a professional, detailed quote from him.The price was right and we contracted his company to do the work. Buck suggested vendors to use for our tile, tub, vanity, toilet and fixtures. Working with his suggested consultants we picked out these items with ease and they were delivered to our home at the start of the project. Our project began on November 20th and took 8 work days to complete. Once Collins Tile and Stone starts your job, it is worked on until it is finished. During the process, Buck kept in touch with us to daily either by phone or email and his crew was reliable, courteous, neat and professional. The tile looks beautiful. It was so much fun to come home each day to see how much progress was being made. My husband and I cannot say enough positive things about Collins Tile and Stone. Not only do we highly recommend them - when the time is right - we will only have them renovate our Master Bath and Kitchen. We hope, if you are reading this review, you will give Buck a call.
Description of Work: Entire hall bathroom was gutted and a new bathroom installed; new floor and wall .tile, tub, toilet, vanity/sink and all new fixtures.

We had been putting off a remodel of our master bathroom for sometime, but when we started getting a water leak from the shower we took the opportunity to remodel the bathroom completely and include a full guest bathroom as well. I found Collin's Tile and Stone on Angie's List and knew from the initial appointment that they were a cut above. The whole experience from beginning to end was highly professional and well executed. There isn't a thing I would change with how Collin's handled the project. The first step involved Buck coming out to view the bathrooms and discuss what we had envisioned for the renovations. Buck listened to out ideas and concerns and was very enthusiastic about the project. He had some suggestions and advice based on his years of experience. For example, Buck talked to us about the pros and cons of steam showers and how they should be built. It was clear that Buck knew a great deal about all the esoteric materials and approaches that can be applied to projects such as this. After this initial meeting Buck provided a list of suggested vendors for materials. Collin's will work with other vendors as well, but his list of suggested vendors allowed us to quickly find sources for all the materials. Untimely, we went with a different vendor for the cabinets in the bath, but used recommended vendors for everything else (more on this later). As a previous reviewed mentioned, this allows you to select all the materials and "features" in the bathroom for the final estimate. Buck was instrumental during this process and was able to make calls to coordinate appointments for us with the vendors as well as provide input on the selections when we had questions or concerns. Given our desire to hurry the start of the project (we couldn't use the shower after the leak) it was great to have someone help us with getting through this process quickly. Further, Buck had input on a couple of areas that resulted in a much better final product. For example, we selected marble for the shower area and Buck indicated that marble can "leach" minerals in a steam shower given the environment. He was able to work with us and the vendor to find a porcelain alternative that fit with the decor we had selected. Once all the materials had been selected Buck prepared a very detailed quote with an estimated duration for the project. Buck kept me informed as we approached the anticipated start date. When the day arrived his crew showed up on time and before starting laid down protective coverings from the front door all the way to the two bathrooms upstairs. Steve oversaw all the work and was very respectful and courteous (as was all the crew). Once they had prepped the started the demolition. Every day his crew cleaned up and left the work area closed off (something they continued through the end of the project). This is particularly important for renovation work where you are still living in the house while they work. We were very comfortable with Buck, Steve and the rest of the crew in our house. The next phase was the actual renovation. Each day I would get a call from Buck running through the progress for the day and reviewing the planned work for the next day. I cannot stress how great this was. Having feedback about progress each day allowed me to review what was done and give feedback on any issues/concerns I might have. Steve would meet with me each morning and we would review what was done as well as any comments/concerns I had. This covered everything from large details to small items like light switch locations. While there were a few issues that presented themselves on the job, this communication and the team's focus on customer satisfaction allowed us to identify and resolve these issues quickly. This was particularly important when the tile work started. We had selected a very intricate design for both bathrooms and they did an amazing job on the install. Even with the design in hand we had to review how to implement a few items and Steve and the crew were open to my suggestions and offered their input as well. Some this collaboration turned out to be the little flourishes that really stand out. Buck's relationship with the material vendors proved invaluable in a few of instances as well. One area Buck raised was the grout we selected was not something he would recommend. He was able to return the grout I had picked and get color matched quality grout the next morning so it did not slow down the project at all. Also, as the crew progressed we wanted three additional toilets replaced and Buck was able to source them quickly and get them installed. Finally, there were a couple of issues with the wrong items being delivered. Buck and his crew was able to handle these issues quickly and if alternatives were not available from one vendor he sourced it from another to avoid delays on the project. As the project came to a close it became clear that Buck had estimated very closely the length of time this project would take (4 weeks). This is no small feat given the complexity and size of the project. Collin's Tile and Stone was able to dedicate varying level of resources to stay on time. At one point after discussing it with us, he brought in an extra crew to work the guest bathroom in parallel to the master bath. Even though we finished a day behind schedule Buck and his crew gave attention to all the last details and the project was not finished until they had resolved all the minor finish issues we had identified. I really appreciated their attention to detail and focus even when they were wrapping up the project. When they completed the bathroom they removed all the protective coverings and left the bathrooms in a pristine state. I waited a month to give this review to take time to live with the bathrooms for a month before making final judgment. Sometimes little things stand out after you've lived with them for a while. I am happy to say that I am incredibly satisfied with their work. Both bathrooms are absolutely beautiful and the quality of the craftsmanship is superb. We will be doing another bathroom renovation in a little less than a year and I will be using Collin's Tile and Stone again for that work as well.

We found Collin's Tile and Stone on Angie's list. Dana returned my call on Monday, after I left a msg on the weekend. Buck came to our home the next week, and based on his knowledge and expertise, he quickly diagnosed exactly what our problem was, a leaking shower pan. He could tell by looking at the shower floor tile that there was definitely moisture underneath because of significant variance in grout color throughout. What was discovered after the tile was removed is that the previous contractor had not properly lined the shower floor and did not line the step or shower bench at all before laying the tile. The wood framing was soaked! Major disaster in our home was only a matter of time. Peter and Ismael from Collin's who did the work were excellent, very professional, explained what they found, and cleaned up at the end of each day. The project mgr Steve, who came the final day, recognized and resolved a concern we expressed that resulted from miscommunication on our part. That was tremendous! They completed all work in the time estimated and well within Buck's initial cost estimates. Their attention to detail, customer service and quality work from beginning to end is outstanding! We highly recommend Buck and his team at Collin's Tile and Stone!
Description of Work: Collins Tile and Stone helped us overcome a bath remodel nightmare! They are OUTSTANDING! We could not be happier or more appreciative of their work or results! They are exceptionally professional and a pleasure to work with. We gutted and remodeled a hall bath in 2011 using a "contractor (??)" referred to us by a neighbor. This individual (not an Angie's List member!) took on our project and was not only in way over his head from day 1, but he took 5x longer than his time estimate to complete, was obviously trying to learn as he went along, and ultimately completed his effort @ 3x the cost estimate. Our total Bath remodel project quickly became a brutal lesson learned for us! "We got what we (unfortunately) deserved!" We thought we'd save money, "go on the cheap" and get good results. None of that proved to be the case! Instead we got what we paid for, a very sub standard job...and a whole slew of problems and aggravation to go with. Earlier this summer we discovered our new shower pan had been leaking under the floor and tile very slowly and consistently for 1 yr since the day the shower was installed! We called in Collin's for help. After Buck and his guys at Collin's saw how the shower work had been done, they were amazed that over the course of a year, the water never leaked thru the ceiling to the family room below. We dodged a very serious bullet! Collin's had nothing to do w/ our original project. There is no doubt in our minds that if we had engaged w/ Collin's day 1 for the entire project, today we would have a bath 2 to 5 times the quality, at or below the total $$ we spent in the end! Ultimately, because we went "cheap" initially, and not w/ an Angie's List contractor, we ended up spending over 4 times our intended budget to remodel our bath!!

Buck replaced our kitchen floor in our townhouse with slate-design porcelain, and the job was great, so we decided we wanted him to replace the old tile in the foyer as well. The foyer is not very large, but is a two-storey foyer which opens to the upstairs living area, and the stairs to the bedrooms beyond. We were replacing the old tile, with new natural, rough-edged, un-honed, stone, which would more closely match the exposed brick wall. Although Buck originally indicated that the job, from start to finish, would take approximately 4-5 days, the job was actually finished in three. The work was great - the floor looks wonderful, and is so much better than the old tile (why we picked that color in the first place, is beyond me). Buck's group can work with any type of flooring, are very professional, quick, and courteous. I wish Collins could do everything in our house, because we wouldn't have to worry about any issues for the rest of our homeowner life! They might not be the least expensive, but if you want quality work, done right, and have someone who is so easy to work with (Buck Collins), you would always want Collins Tile. We have one more project, which we will probably have to wait until next year to schedule, but now since we have replaced our kitchen floor, we realize how bad our backsplash looks, so we want to have that replaced, and we would not want anyone else to do it but Buck (Collins Tile).
Description of Work: Replace existing tile in townhouse foyer, and small hallway to laundry room. Required the removal of the original tile, and underlayment, and replace with new, natural travertine stone floor, appropriate grouting, and new cove molding.

Buck Collins and his team were great to work with from start to finish. Buck worked with me to figure out design options and provided a quote based on actual material and fixture selections. His team was very professional and communicated well throughout the job when there were decisions points along the way. Buck is very concerned about making sure things are done correctly, and his highly skilled team and also reflects this objective. The tile work included several pattern and size transitions, and the Collins team did an excellent job making sure everything lined up properly and had excellent aesthetics when complete. Buck was very responsive to requests and communications via email and phone. I was very happy with the quality and their project approach/management. I would definitely use them again for future projects.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of Master Bathroom. This included removal of old floor, vanities, tub, shower and fixtures. Remodel included new porcelain tile on floor and shower (walls and ceiling), new tub, toilet, vanities, mirrors, vanity lights, and all other bathroom fixtures. I found Collins Tile & Stone on Angies List. After reading many of the reviews I felt that this was the company I wanted for my bathroom remodel. Following my initial meeting with Buck Collins and spending considerable time talking with him, I was even more convinced. Buck is extremely knowledgeable, responsive, keeps in daily touch to check on satisfaction. He clearly takes a great deal of pride in his business and does what it takes to exceed expectations. The primary factors for my recommendation of Collins Tile & Stone: 1) Pricing Model and Materials - Buck Collins' approach is to give you a quote after you have picked out all of your materials. While this may seem counter-intuitive and opposite of what other contractors do, it made much more sense to me since the quote you are given is what it actually costs; there are no surprises. Yes, it required more upfront work for me, but it was also an excellent reality check as to the accuracy of other contractor quotes. Buck provided a list of recommended vendors for tile, cabinets, plumbing fixtures, granite, etc. that he has worked with and believes to be tried and true. I had a vision for how I wanted the bathroom to look including a "cool" tile design, new cabinets, granite countertops and oil rubbed bronze fixtures. All of the vendors I worked with understood what I was trying to do and helped me pick out the best products without overselling me. Some of the materials I picked out, while not the most expensive, were leaning towards the higher end. The tile design had quite a lot of variation in the pattern which adds to the installation cost. It was quickly apparent to me how fair the quote I got from Buck was when I compared it to other similarly priced quotes that had smaller allowances for materials and a very "basic" tile design layout. Their prices would only have increased from there in order to get what I wanted to accomplish. And I was able to afford a heated floor - bonus! 2) Tile Installation - The first thing you see when entering my bathroom is the tub and shower. I wanted the main focal point to be a frameless shower, connected to the tub deck with a tile design on the wall seen through the glass that would make you say "wow". A major portion of the work in the bathroom is tile; why wouldn't I want someone who specialized in tile installations? The tile installers Peter and his helper Carlo were true artists. There are 4 different size tiles in different colors, an interior diamond pattern and listello borders. And while all were deliberately placed, I wanted it to appear as a random pattern. Despite the challenging design, all the tiles were measured and cut to fit perfectly. Peter takes so much pride in his work even redoing a few areas after deciding he wasn't happy with the way it looked. The tile is truly a work of art. 3) Customization - The project manager Steve did the framing for the tub deck and shower, installed the new vanity and cabinets as well as relocating the water lines and installing the plumbing. Steve is a true craftsman and did whatever he could do to make everything fit in and flow perfectly. Since this was a completely custom installation, he always discussed the options with me from how to frame out the tub deck in order to maximize the size of the shower to arranging the vanity and cabinets. Even after initially framing out the tub deck and shower the way we had agreed, he felt it wasn't going to result in what I wanted to accomplish and redid it. Every time I enter that shower now I am grateful that he did. 4) Customer Satisfaction - I wouldn't be honest if I said all of the work was done incident free. A few misunderstandings did result in some materials not being ordered properly or being installed incorrectly at first. However all issues were always corrected as quickly as possible and with no complaints. I was always contacted immediately if any issues arose during the day that needed my input. Having renovations done in your bedroom where workers arrive every day around 7:30am can be intrusive and disruptive to say the least. However everyone was extremely professional and did their very best to ease my anxiety and stress levels. Buck emailed or called me every single day to update me on the day's progress and make sure I was satisfied with what I was seeing. If I had any comments or questions about something I saw that needed to be done, he would make sure it was addressed. At the very end of the remodel there was problem with the vendor who was installing the shower glass. The shower had to be remeasured and the glass reordered, delaying installation a few weeks. While this was 100% the fault of the glass installer, Buck took it very personally since it was his referral and did whatever he could to get them to expedite it. He really cares that his customers are completely satisfied and does what it takes to make it happen. I cannot say enough about how thrilled I am with how this bathroom remodel came out. Collins Tile & Stone took the vision I had and made it a reality. I now have a beautiful spa-like bathroom. The only problem I have now is that I expect my water bill will increase - since the shower is so relaxing, I don't want to get out.
Description of Work: Complete demolition of master bathroom, removed old vanity, tub, shower, toilet, wall and floor tile. Removed wallboard to studs in shower area, relocated water and waste lines for tub and waste line for shower. Installed complete custom bathroom that included heated floor with programmable thermostat, soaking tub with decking that was incorporated into shower, larger shower with frameless glass surround and door, porcelain and glass tile in shower, around tub, floor and back-splash of vanity, new vanity and cabinets, granite countertops, all new plumbing fixtures, accessories and vanity light, replaced toilet, installed recessed lighting, new exhaust fan, light switches and custom framed mirror.

Very pleased overall. Collins was not the cheapest estimate, but their professionalism, integrity and reputation prompted me to go with them. Though it took a while to get on their schedule, once they started they came everyday until it was complete (took 2.5 weeks as they originally predicted). Very respectful of my time and property. Consulted me on all decisions, and I usually went with their recommendations as Buck and his crew clearly know their stuff. The project manager, Steve, has a carpentry background and did an amazing job with the wooden wainscoting I requested. They also provided excellent recommendations for a "granite guy" and folks to take care of the shower enclosure. Following the installation of the floor tile I noticed a few tiles were discolered, but Buck took care of replacing them immediately. A few weeks after completion there were a few "tweaks" that needed to be done and Steve came back to take care if them. Outstanding service.
Description of Work: Gutted the master bathroom, installed radiant heat in floor, floor tile, shower floor and tile, wainscoting, stand alone tub, vanities, mirrors and fixtures.

As a consequence of a water leak, the travertine tile in my bathroom required replacement. After my initial call for an appointment I waited two weeks for the first visit to get an estimate. During that time I was asked to go to a local tile retailer and pick out the replacement/matching tile, which I did. During the estimate visit Buck Collins appeared to be very knowledgeable and understood clearly what needed doing. After the "estimate" visit I waited another week for the estimate. The pricing was acceptable. I emailed back for an appointment to do the job. I was told I was "on the list" but no time was set. That was a month ago. I never heard back. I selected Collins based on the other very favorable Angie's list reviews. But at least in this experience, Collins didn't even have the courtesy to say they were too busy, or didn't want the job. I eventually did have Thomas Martin's do the job, another highly rated Angie's List provider, who did an excellent job in a very timely fashion.

Response from Collins Tile & Stone
This issue has been discussed directly with Member, and it is unfortunate that he has given us a grade lower than an A, based on our production schedule (which is currently two months out), meaning we could not get to his job within his timeframe (although this timeframe was never communicated to us). We were upfront from the very beginning with regards to our timeframe. We do not condone providing estimates for work we are unable to do, however, with the volume of estimates and work we have on our schedule, there is a wait for both. We communicated this on the intial call, at the time of the estimate, as well as, in follow up email communication. Once he accepted our estimate, we let him know that he was on our production schedule, and that it was back logged at this time. We told Member (2 weeks ago in an email communication) that he was on the list, and we would communicate a time as it got closer. We never received any communication from Member asking for a specific date, or voicing his concern with not having a date. The timing of waiting 2 weeks for an estimate is real, and actually a normal (or even short) wait for an estimate appointment. Buck is typically booked out 3-4 weeks for estimates, and it does take some time to get the actual estimate out once all selections have been made. Many of our Angie's List customers have made mention in their reviews about the incredible amount of detail that goes into our estimates, and how that is one of the things that sets us apart from our competition. Our production schedule typically runs 6-8 weeks out for the work to be done, once the estimate is accepted. We are very conscientious of communicating this clearly to potential customers, so that we are all on the same page, and there are no surprises. The timing Member outlines for receiving the estimate one week later is incorrect. The estimate was actually sent the same day. Buck met with him in the afternoon, obtained our pricing and availability of product, and sent his estimate at 11:30pm that night (because it was a repair, selections did not have to be made). Unfortunately, it seems as though this was a miscommunication, and although we thought Member was fine waiting for a date, apparently he was not. We do wish he had contacted us regarding the issue, as we do everything we can to accomodate our customers, and would have discussed this with him and tried to come to a resolution. Instead, we were made aware of his unhappiness on this Angie’s List review. We believe our 50+ "A" reports on Angie’s List clearly represent the way we do business. Approximately half of these reviews are also POH (Pages of Happiness) nominees. We regret that we were not given the opportunity to actually perform the work for Member, as we are certain he would have joined our base of satisfied Angie's List customers. We apologize for any miscommunication with Member. Sincerely, Buck and Dana Collins, Collins Tile and Stone

It was a pleasure to work with Collins Tile & Stone from the very beginning. While they weren't the cheapest estimate that I received, I was sold on Buck's extensive knowledge in terms of what the best materials are for building the shower back up and just his personality in general. It was very important for me to have a contractor that not only knew what they were doing but also were in the business of being personable to me as a customer. The project began with Steve and Calixto finishing up the demolition and building the knee wall. They made sure to shield the remaining part of the bedroom from the dust and dirt particles. Drop cloths and plastic were put down to shield the carpet daily and they made sure to clean up and vacuum before they left each day. The largest parts in the beginning were building the shower back up as it is a double shower and it took about a week from start to finish. Abraham, Herman and Adrian put forth the effort to make sure that the entire floor was level and the shower drained correctly. They were able to follow the design pattern that I had chosen and made all the tilework look beautiful.Once all of that was done, Calixto came back to finish up the remaining carpentry. He and Herman installed the cabinets. Even when there a mini catastrophy with the cabinets received, Calixto provided me with advice on how to get them the way that I needed in order to apply the crown molding. From start to finish every person involved worked hard. Even when I went out of town I was constantly kept in the loop and Buck reached out to me almost daily to make sure I was happy with the progress. The project was completed on time and we are very pleased with the results and would use Collins Tile & Stone again in the future for other bathroom and kitchen remodeling.

I had a local handyman/contractor totally re-do my bathroom, and ended up with a beautiful tile shower enclosure which had some serious water draining problems. Basically the membrane which was supposed to keep the shower pan from leaking held water, and it would smell like a sewer each time we took a shower.I talked to a few ceramic tile companies, and quickly concluded that Buck Collins, the owner of Collins Tile was the one to use. He quickly diagnosed the problem, described the fix in layman's terms, gave me a timely estimate which I thought was quite reasonable. His team got the work done quickly, professionally, and with an attention to detail. Buck is involved in national associations dealing with ceramic tile, and really knows his stuff.
Description of Work: Replacement of a ceramic tile shower pan and lower level tile.
