We are one of two tile contracting companies in Northern Virginia to employ tile installers certified by the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation. Each Certified Tile Installer has completed the technical proficiency and hands-on tests of the certification program validating their skill and knowledge of tile installation. At Collins Tile and Stone we follow the TCNA (Tile Council of North America) handbook of guidelines in all installations to ensure top-quality craftsmanship. We are proud of our awards and certifications. We were recently honored with the 2015 Residential Grand Prize Winner of the Project of the Year awarded by the NTCA for technical expertise and superior craftmanship. This is the 2nd year in a row we were recognized with this distinction (2014 and 2015). In 2011, Collins Tile & Stone joined an elite group of 42 contractors from across the U.S. when we were named a Five-Star Contractor by the National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA).
Our experience with Buck Collins and his company was outstanding. We initially were attracted to Collins Tile based upon their expertise in the design and installation of steam showers. We ended up appreciating many other qualities including: the creation of an extensive and detailed project plan; the project management capabilities of Steve Keator; and the experience and professionalism of all of the specialist employees that were assigned to various parts of the project. This was a complex project in that the only plumbing that remained in its original spot was the toilet plumbing and the only walls that remained in place were the exterior walls of the house.. The room was redesigned to include two separate custom vanities, a very large steam shower with multiple shower heads and an internal bench for reclining, extensive custom storage cabinetry, a decorative mosaic tile as a focal art piece, integrated and framed mirrors, towel racks, and various lighting treatments. While the design was completed by another firm, the experience of Buck and the representatives of his firm resulted in a refined design to accommodate the important factors of the build phase and the idiosyncrasies of the steam environment. The parties were collaborative throughout. There are many chances for mishaps with a project of this magnitude. Collins Tile exhibited excellent communication skills and professionalism in working to resolution the one matter that we faced together. It is worth mentioning that the quality of the tile installation is superb. We used porcelain tiles of various sizes and Cambrea quartz slabs for this project. It is clear that the tile specialists are masters of their craft. The project progressed exactly as detailed in the project plan and was completed within the proposed budget. We are delighted with our new bathroom and will use Collins Tile for future projects.

An exceptionally well planned and executed installation. The tile and plumbing suppliers were top notch and contributed to the successful design of the master bathroom. Installation crews were professional, punctual and kept us up to date on what they were doing and suggested improvements where they were needed.

We obtained multiple quotes for the job, including a quote from the contractor that had installed the same tile in our basement in January 2015. We went with Buck Collins not just because he was slightly less expensive but also because we knew from our dialog when Buck was developing his estimate that he really knew what he was doing. Buck sealed the deal from the onset with his superb professional manner, valuable counsel on tile pattern and tile sourcing considerations, and his attentive ear to the customer's expectations. Buck's team of Abraham and German who installed the tile showed superb attention to detail in every aspect of the floor preparation and tile installation. Because the job wasn't going to be completed until Tuesday after the long Memorial Day weekend, Buck's team accommodated our need to have the washer and dryer back in service on Friday afternoon by completing this area out of sequence. I know this slowed down the project a bit, but it really helped us out of a bind. Buck checked in with us daily during the five days that Abraham and German were doing the project. I was most impressed when Buck insisted on giving us a credit for returning the excess tile from our basement project as we had assumed this credit was part of his original quote. The mudroom project turned out great, and we won't hesitate to use Collins Tile and Stone for future projects.

Our experience with Collins Tile from start to finish was excellent. We had problem areas that we wanted addressed - a very plain area above our fireplace that had just painted wallboard - very boring looking - and a second area behind our cooktop that had a non-working pot filler that needed removed and the remaining hole covered or repaired Buck came over to see the areas within a week of my call, he gave us suggestions based on the drawings I had made for the fireplace area and offered a wonderful suggestion for dealing with the hole behind the cooktop - which was a framed tile-over instead of trying to repairing or tearing out tile to insert something. The tiler and his assistant showed up right on time, worked through out the three and a half days they were here and were extremely neat. They laid everything out for me to look at before putting anything on the wall, made suggestions, and let me know exactly how they were going to go about the job. It was an extreme pleasure to work with them and an even greater pleasure to watch their artistry. When they left, it was as if nobody had been in the house working at all - it was that clean. I would like to add that the cost of this work reflects only the labor involved as we bought our tile via Direct Buy. Even at that Collins Tile was very willing to work with us which we really appreciated. They took my drawings, my tile selections and determine the amount of tile that I needed for both projects. I think the only thing I would have done differently is have them provide the grout (if they would do so). As it was, I also bought the grout via Direct Buy and had a lot left over. Great Job and I highly recommend Collins Tile and Stone.

Thank you for your review and we appreciate the great feedback. We are glad to hear you love the new look of the fireplace. Thanks for your trust in our business!
Thank you to Collins Tile and Stone! We initially contacted them to tile our kitchen floor to replace existing vinyl that had started to bubble. After removing the vinyl, we found that the problem was much worse due to a leak from the dishwasher and decided to replace the entire kitchen. After reading the reviews on Angie's List and talking with several vendors, we decided to work with Collins Tile and Stone. Their quote was comparable to other - they weren't the cheapest and weren't the most expensive. We initially met with Buck, the owner, to discuss our requirements and he provided a portfolio of previous projects. They looked great and we felt confidence in Collins Tile and Stone?s quality of work. Once we started, we met with Molly, one of the kitchen designer to review our options. After we?d made initial selection, she put together a series of drawing/floor plan to fully depict what the new layout would look like. We went through a similar process to select tile and granite options. At the start of the job, the Collins Tile and Stone team removed all the old cabinets and saved the appliances in the garage. The team then had to wait till the vinyl floor which we found out contained asbestos to be removed by a professional. We also decided to go with hardwood so they had to work around the installation of that. They were extremely flexible and professional and never complained about having to work around other contractors. They took everything in stride. Once the cabinets arrived, the installation went very smoothly. In the middle of the project we decided not to keep our existing under cabinet lighting which they planned on and to go with LED lights. This decision caused them to adjust their plan, which they did without a problem. During the punch list there were a few items that needed to be rectified, but Buck and his team (Eddie and Kirk) were extremely trustworthy and resolved all the issues in a timely manner. We appreciated that anytime there was a question, they called asked it and in some cases took pictures to determine how we wanted it. Most contractors would just do it and then if you don't like it either argue with you or fix it later. Buck's guys always got it right the first time! After using the new kitchen for a few months we have no regrets and are fully satisfied. We love the kitchen and everyone that visits our home is extremely complementary of the work done by the Collins Stone and Tile team. We look forward to working with Buck in the future.
Description of Work: Collins Tile and Stone did a full kitchen remodel for us. This included kitchen design, demo, saving appliances, cabinet installation, backsplash tile, under cabinet LED lighting, granite counter top and all the plumbing associated with the sink/dishwasher.

Collins Tile and Stone is one of the most well ran business I have ever dealt with. My initial call was answered promptly and by the end of my conversation, I was given a price range of their services plus info on how they operated. I was able to get an appointment for a quote in a reasonable amount of time. Buck came out on time, talked about my project and how his business would go about completing it. I had a quote in a few days. Once I decided to use them, they took over the project, ordering the tile and picking it up. They were always in contact with me by phone or email checking in or checking to see how I liked the installation. I know this was a small project but I would not hesitate using them again in any size project.

We had an excellent experience with Collins Tile & Stone. Ours was an extensive remodel, as in addition to building a large steam shower with custom bench, we also had other structural changes: 2 large windows removed (requiring exterior siding installation) and we added a large transom window in its stead (where no window had been previously); framing and stairs built to accommodate a deep Japanese soaking tub. We had extensive plumbing and electrical work, as well as extensive tiling. When I initially contacted their office and spoke with Buck's wife Dana, I told her that we had a very tight timeline, as we needed to have the bathroom completed by the end of July due to out of town guests coming for the month of August. From that phone call on and throughout the entire remodel, I always felt that I was treated as a valued customer. Even before we signed a contract, Buck spent a great deal of time talking me through all of the specifics of our remodel, with particular attention to the requirements for building a steam shower. It is because of his expertise in this area that we hired his company for this job. I had interviewed several other contractors, however I didn't have the same comfort level with any of them with regard to this very specialized feature. With regard to product selections, Buck has aligned himself with excellent companies with which to work. On Buck's recommendation we worked with Architectural Ceramics for all of our tile needs, Ferguson for all of our plumbing needs, and Reico for our vanity. The experiences were very positive on all counts. Once the work started Buck's team was on site every day without delay. Steve was our main point man, and he was wonderful to work with. There was always open communication with both the team and Buck. When issues did arise, as is to be expected with any large construction project, they were handled professionally and promptly. The job did take slightly longer than had been promised due to some of these issues, however it was completed (with the exception of the shower glass, which we had been told would take a longer time to have installed) just before our guests arrived, which was my stipulation from the very beginning. I would absolutely recommend Collins Tile & Stone for any bath remodel, but particularly to anyone contemplating adding a steam shower to their home. The finished product has exceeded our expectations, and we now enjoy the "spa" feeling that our beautiful master bathroom affords us everyday. Our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner!!!

We are very appreciative of your review and are pleased that your experience from beginning to end was a positive one. You have a beautiful new master bath and we hope you are enjoying it.
I chose Collins Tile & Stone ("Collins") and two other companies from Angie's List around September/October 2012 for possible candidates for master bathroom remodel. After meeting with all three, I chose Collins after meeting with Buck Collins who was punctual, extremely knowledgeable and took a great deal of pride in his business. Collins provided a list of recommended vendors for tile, cabinets, plumbing fixtures, granite, etc. I chose vendors and selected the materials I wanted for the remodel. Received great service from all of the vendors, except Mosaic Tile (Chantilly). Being a novice, I selected the tile I wanted but didn't know I was to receive other services such as a design layout for use by Collins--which in the end the layout of the tile on one of the walls in the shower stall was not done the way I wanted (installed according to industry standards). Overall, the experience was a positive one; the workmen were punctual, friendly and their craftsmanship/workmanship was of quality--especially love the placement of the floor and tub tiles. Collins installed granite countertops in the kitchen during the same period and am extremely happy with those and as well as granite tops installed in the bathroom. Except for a few details, Collins did a great job. I have called Collins Tiles back to fix several minor items since the remodel and I can say I received good service with a couple of hiccups.

We appreciate your business and value your feedback about your experience. As explained, the original tile design that was done using large format tiles with a 50% offset pattern could not be accomplished with the remodel since it did not comply with today’s industry standards. For best practices and quality craftsmanship, we installed the tiles in a format which complies with industry standards resulting in superior installation. Also, we were happy to return and adjust the temperature of the hot water. Thank you again for the kind words and for sharing your review. We value our client’s satisfaction and hope you enjoy your bathroom remodel for many years to come.

I called Collins Tile and Stone, but Grout Medic called me. I assumed that they were the same company. He shows up an hour early and is waiting at the door. I wasn't prepared. He was only here for 2 minutes. He was obviously in a rush. he told me that I should call his brother in law, who is the original company that I called. I called them and asked them to come today because I had already taken the day off. They said they couldn't do that, they couldn't help me until the 10th. When we finally agreed on a date, they refused to give me a time frame when they would show up. I took a day off work, the wrong company showed up, he criticized me for not fixing it sooner, and then told me to call his brother-in-law. And then the lady with Collins on the phone was giving me a hard time about wanting to set a time. It seems like that element of customer service is not present with them. It was just a complete waste of time. It was their error in the first place to send the wrong person, and then to refuse to accommodate me.

We own and operate two companies. One is Collins Tile and Stone, a kitchen and bathroom remodeling company, and the second is The Grout Medic of Arlington/Alexandria, a tile and grout maintenance and restoration company. We can typically get The Grout Medic out to see someone within a week, where Collins Tile and Stone schedules estimates 1-3 weeks out. We get many inquiries for repairs or leaks, which could be addressed by either company, depending on the severity of the issue. In a case like this, we tend to send The Grout Medic first, to take a look at things, and see if they can help with a repair versus a re-build of the shower. In many cases, The Grout Medic is able to do the job. In all cases, we need to assess the issue in order to determine what work needs to be done. It is sometimes determined by The Grout Medic’s General Manager that the scope of work required is beyond a repair and would best be addressed by the services of Collins Tile and Stone. The estimate appointment was set up, confirmed, and acknowledged by the member via email for 8am with The Grout Medic. The General Manager arrived at 8 am, not one hour early. A quick diagnosis was made because the walls were wet and damaged, and tiles were falling off the walls, although he was there longer than 2 minutes. Our General Manager told member that he would be happy to provide an estimate for wall repair and re-grouting, but warned her that there was so much damage, that the costs would be approaching the re-building of an entirely new shower. Member stated she would wait for Collins Tile and Stone to come out and give her an estimate. At this point, the member was referred to our tile company, and The Grout Medic left her home. She did not display any unhappiness or dis-satisfaction at this time. Member called to schedule an appointment with Collins Tile and Stone. In going through the process, member was dis-satisfied with our process for scheduling. Once we had determined a date, it was explained to member that Mr. Collins would be out to see her, immediately following his first appointment of the day, which is at 7:30 am, and would call on the way. Member insisted on a specific time, which was not given to member, as we will not commit to a specific time if we cannot guarantee we will be there. It is impossible to know how long the previous appointment may take, as well as traffic conditions in Northern Virginia, which is why we don’t provide an exact arrival time to the next appointment. We pride ourselves on spending as much time with every client or potential client as needed. This is one reason we set our appointments in a range of time (usually a one hour or two hour range, with a call on the way). I regret that member felt this experience exhibited poor customer service from our company. As seen by our reviews, we have hundreds of satisfied customers, for whom we have performed work, who have given us "A" ratings and excellent reviews, as well as POH (Pages of Happiness) nominations. There was no work performed for this member. As a matter of fact, we did not even provide an estimate for the work. We wish that we would have been given the opportunity to provide the same excellent service to this member, and wish them the best in finding a contractor that is a good fit for their needs.
Our job was a "must do" not a "want to do" due to a water penetration issue. The entire Collins Tile team was great to work with. They were on time, courteous, professional, and very helpful when we ran into a minor issue with the tile wholesaler. We would not only recommend Collins Tile to our family, friends, and neighbors, but also would call on them again ourselves. Our new bathroom is a beautiful space.
Description of Work: Remove tile floors, jacuzzi tub, shower (to studs), wet/moldy floor board, and toilet. Thank you for your recommendation. We appreciate your trust in our business and hope you are enjoying your bathroom.
Everything went extremely well. We have dealt with numerous contractors in the past, having built two houses, and we found Buck Collins and his people to be very, very professional and upfront with us. The men arrived promptly bright and early and cleaned up before they left in the late afternoon. They were very nice and very industrious. It was clear to us that this is a company very well run, with employees who have good rapport with Buck and with each other. Buck kept us informed as to what was coming next and also about answering our numerous questions via email promptly, busy as he was, managing various projects simultaneously. The quality of the work was superb. The companies he works with gave us excellent service and suggestions about the product options they offered us. We knew upfront that Collins Tile and Stone does not do painting, but we used a painting contractor whom we had used several years ago, so we were able to have that done immediately after our bathroom was completed.
Description of Work: This was a total re-do of our master bathroom. Everything was removed, including the flooring, although the existing toilet was kept. The Collins Tile and Stone installed ceramic tile, put a granite-topped cabinet where the soaking tub had been, made the shower stall larger, replaced the existing double-sink vanity with an entirely new one having a granite countertop, mirrors, installed a medicine cabinet, new lighting fixtures, a new exhaust fan and timer, and replaced some of the woodwork

Having suffered through several home remodel projects in my life, I was not looking forward to having both bathrooms in our condo renovated at the same time. We shouldn't have worried as Collins Tile and Stone planned the renovation carefully so we would not lose any functionality as the work progressed. Floors and rugs were laid with plastic protection and the workmen cleaned up when work was completed for the day. Most importantly, they showed up every day until the work was complete. Buck Collins and his crew made this process as painless as possible and with amazing results. First we worked with Tracy, a charming and knowledgeable designer, to select the materials such as tile, vanities, and fixtures. The supply stores Collins uses and recommends for materials were helpful, easy to work with, knew the good and bad points of fixtures and furniture, and took the time to guide us through the bewildering maze of choices. Buck kept a watchful eye on every aspect of the job from beginning to end. Steve, his crew foreman, really made that almost unnecessary as he was there almost every day. Abraham and German are the most skilled tilers I've ever watched work -- true artists with an eye to detail. I have to add that all of these men are a pleasure to work with. They are smart, skillful, and know what they are doing. Collins is not cheap but they are a company providing a quality product and were quite willing to help us trim the cost to stay within our budget. They don't cut corners or look for quick easy fixes, they do it correctly and to the customer's satisfaction. If you want a beautiful bathroom I could not recommend Collins Tile and Stone more highly. I cannot imagine having future work done in our condo unless it?s done by Collins Tile and Stone
Description of Work: Remodeled the guest bath and the master bath. Collins help us decide on what we needed and designed the bathrooms, recommended local businesses they trusted which turned out to be VERY helpful and cheaper. Collins handled the demolition, wiring, plumbing and the installation of the fixtures and furniture we chose. They cleaned up daily and kept the floors covered and protected.

Originally, with this project, I had hired a general contractor to do the entire remodel. When that failed, I was forced to start over, and decided to hire all my own subs. I contacted Collins Tile and Stone, along with 4 other tile installers. Collins was prompt in responding and coming out to see the site. He assessed the condition of the bathroom and offered advice as to what needed to be corrected from the previously failed job before it would be ready for tile. He was prompt in submitting a bid, and it was a fairly detailed bid, indicating a clear understanding of the job. His price was reasonable; of the 5 tile installers I received bids from, his was in the upper range, but not the most expensive. In addition, he was very clear and upfront about scheduling availability. As it turned out, he was able to schedule my job before I was able to get it ready. It took me several months to get the bathroom to the tile stage, and during that time, he kept in touch on a regular basis to check on the progress. In fact, everyone at this company ? office staff, project manager, etc - that I had contact with excelled in communication. When I was ready to start the job, a project manager came out the first day with the team and reviewed the job with my husband and me. Because these were individual 3x6 tiles, rather than sheets of tiles or larger squares, it represented a significant amount of tile work for the space. Once the job began, there were 2 tile installers here every day and the work progressed steadily and consistently until it was completed. They were as ?non-disruptive? as possible, given this was my master bath and bedroom. I work from home, and at no time did the work going on in my house interfere with my job. All floor surfaces from the bathroom to the outside were covered, and the team cleaned up and swept up every day before they left. The team was a pleasure to have in my house. Collins was also able to arrange for some needed carpentry work, dry wall hanging and the acquisition and installation of a shower door, even though this was outside of the scope of work for which he had been hired. All the work was beautifully done. Due to the house being older and having settled, there were some challenges to getting tile of this sort installed correctly and the team did a wonderful job, right down to every last detail. These two gentlemen clearly took pride in their work, which is rare today.
Description of Work: The project was a master bathroom/bedroom remodel. In the bathroom, I had the floor tiled with octagon and dot floor tiles. In addition, the walls were tiled using subway tiles to a chair rail of about 42 inches, and a walk in shower was fully tiled with the subway tiles.

We have recently completed a kitchen renovation with Collins Tile and Stone LLC, our third project in three years with them acting as our contractors. Obviously we have been pleased with their services or would not have continued to do business with them, but this is the first review I have written. My husband and I live in a 1930?s era home in Arlington. Like many of these homes, our kitchen was smallish, on the back side of the house and in our case on the north side. We had five doorways/entranceways, two small partially enclosed alcoves and two north facing windows. Since we were not going to add any new space nor incorporate space from another room we assumed we would have to keep the same general design, as the space was awkward to work with and our options seemed to be few. So, Buck Collins (the president of Collins Tile and Stone LLC) arrived that first day back in January with a kitchen designer to begin the process. I had a clear idea of some of the things I wanted (gas stove, light colored wood cabinets, retain small eating space, etc.). The designer agreed that it was a difficult space but she would see if she could come up with something new. A week later she emailed us a plan that was so different and exciting that we were hooked right away. Buck and the designer worked with us and refined the plan over the next month or so and we decided to cut back the walls enclosing the alcoves thus opening up the entire space. Of course this involved more work and money but it was not prohibitive. Buck works with a structural engineer who came out and checked the room to see what was necessary and possible, and drew up the plans for the permitting process, required because one of the walls was a bearing wall. The fee for the engineer was $500.00. The additional cost for the labor and materials added to the cost, but was not a huge amount. For those who have never done a complete makeover before be prepared to spend the time traipsing around showrooms looking at cabinets, fixtures, tile, granite, appliances, etc. It is time consuming. But if you work with Buck Collins and his team they can provide a lot of help with the various suppliers and can recommend people who work at the showrooms to help you make your decisions. He also works with various designers, architects and engineers if you need them for your project. We did not use a designer on our other two projects, which were bathrooms, but are very glad we had one in for the kitchen, we would never have thought up the new floor plan on our own. Renovating a kitchen is disruptive, expensive and time consuming. But the kitchen is the ?heart of the house? as my husband said he realized when we were washing dishes in the laundry tub in the basement. If you go down this difficult and nerve wracking road a reliable, honest and skilled contractor is crucial. Collins Tile and Stone will be with you every step of the way. Almost all the work is done ?in house? with their own craftsmen, with the exception of extensive electrical or plumbing/gas changes, in which case they will call in their subcontractors. Once the job has started you need only deal with Collins Tile and Stone, they will handle all the arrangements and scheduling. Once the job starts, work will continue every day, Monday through Friday until the job is completed. If there are unexpected problems (there are always unexpected problems, especially in an older home) they will be handled and the work will continue. You will be kept informed regularly of the progress and expectations of the project. And your calls, emails or texts will be answered promptly. If a problem crops up after the job is completed Buck Collins will see that it is fixed. Buck Collins is not satisfied until you are happy with the result. Our project took six weeks to complete, and our kitchen was pretty much gutted, even the ceiling was removed. As I said earlier our house is fairly old and there is not a square corner or a flat wall or floor in the place, so working on it is a trial. But all the changes were made and we have a now have a beautiful kitchen: open, harmonious and functional. Most people have heard the horror stories of kitchen remodeling: work crews disappearing for days or weeks at a time, shoddy workmanship, failure to return calls, projects that take months and months to complete, I shudder to think what this project would have been like with a careless of less skilled contractor. If you decide to go down this road the most important thing you can do is choose a good contractor. Pretty cabinets and gorgeous granite aren?t much good if you don?t have a contractor who knows what he is doing. I have no hesitation in recommending Collins Tile and Stone. Buck and his team will do a terrific job. Over the last three years and three projects my husband and I have gotten to know Buck and some of the staff so we want to say thanks to the kitchen team: Steve, Shawn, Kirk, Keith, Oscar, Adrian, Mario, Eric, and of course Buck. Dana and Diana in the office were always helpful and pleasant. I hope I?ve not forgotten anyone. All of you helped us turn a dark, gloomy and not too functional kitchen into a delightful and functional one. Now we are headed to the basement where Collins Tile and Stone will build out and finish an area that currently has nothing but a concrete floor, block walls and overhead duct work. It is, of course another tricky space but I have no doubt that Buck and his team will do the job and make it beautiful.

One of the greatest compliments we can receive is for a customer to ask us to return to their home to complete another remodeling project. We are very appreciative of your recommendation and are pleased that the process from start to finish was a positive one for you. It was an exciting process to rebuild your kitchen and to help you design and create a new kitchen, the "heart of the home", as you said. We look forward to the next project! Thanks again!

9 years ago we had the kitchen and laundry room redone. A new tile floor was part of the renovation. Lately we had noticed missing grout and loose and cracked tile. A grout service told us they could fix the problem but the repairs wouldn't last because the floor had not been laid properly and the service guy recommended Collins Tile and Stone because of Buck Collins technical knowledge in this area. This is the greatest referral I have ever received. Buck Collins runs this company and let me say hands down that they are simply superb and the best at what they do. This was a big job, They came every day and finished ahead of schedule. These are not craftsman, these are artisans. They take pride in their work. The work as clean as possible, they leave the worksite as clean as possible. Every morning a supervisor reviewed the previous day's work. This was the second review because every night pictures of the day's work are sent to Buck for review. Buck himself was here most days to review the work and he came when it was finished to make sure we were happy. I got a lucky referral but if you are reading this review you don't need luck, if you don't use Collins Tile and Stone for all the services they offer then you missed the best home improvement/service experience you will ever get. You can't make a mistake using Buck Collins and when you meet Buck you may think he is too good to be true, but he is a businessman who understands that the success of his business is built on the value he provides to his customers.

They had two employees come out. They had one supervisor and two workers. It was a four day process, it takes longer to remove older tile. They are good laborers and they laid the tile great. It has terrific ownership, they listen to you in the beginning and while the work is in process. They were very neat, they would clean up after themselves everyday. They did leave some epoxy on the tile afterwards, I called them and they did agree to come and clean it off.
Description of Work: They put in flooring in our kitchen, powder room, and a sunroom.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with others. We appreciate the positive remarks and your trust in our business.
First of all, we shopped for the right contractor for over 18 months, listening to proposals that varied widely in quality and cost. At the end of the day, I truly believe that you get what you pay for and, as I watched two of my neighbors settle for cheap solutions that left them unhappy, I realized that we needed to find a highly rated contractor that we could trust. I was not an Angie's List member for the first year and only got very serious after joining and having great success with a couple of smaller projects. I selected two highly rated contractors on Angie's List and then read every review, looking for quality workmanship, responsive customer service and flexibility. My wife and I sat down with Buck Collins in October, 2013 and immediately felt comfortable that Buck knew what he was doing, did not cut corners, was responsive to our requirements and was committed to creating not just a bathroom but an oasis in our townhouse. Buck was so busy that they could not start work until January, 2014 which worked with our schedule. The proposal was quite comprehensive and served as a starting point for us to modify in the months before the work started and even during the project. I ended up being out of town the month of January and Buck adjusted their work schedule to allow for a February start. We worked with a number of exceptional plumbing and tile companies recommended by Collins, refining the fixtures and tile, and expanding the renovation to the second full bathroom. This resulted in a large number of modifications to the original proposal but Buck and his team worked with us to make sure that the now two designs worked and that we had everything we needed. By the middle of February, the project commenced. The Collins' artisans started by protecting all of our master bedroom furniture and our floors and carpet from the basement to the third floor. While we have four bathrooms, the two being renovated had our showers and they carefully sequenced the work so that we always had access to a shower. Note that the hall bathroom's tub/shower had all new fixtures installed but we did not replace the bath tub or the bath tub tile. The demo went very smoothly and every evening, Steve, the foreman, made sure that everything was cleaned up and neat and the garage, which was used for staging building materials. fixtures and tile as well as bagged up debris, was squared away and orderly. This attention to detail epitomized their work throughout the renovation. After both bathrooms were fully (master) and partially (hall) demoed, the plumber came in to plumb the master for a rain shower head, three body sprayers and a hand sprayer along with hydrostatic valves, capped the pipes for the removed soaker tub and rerouted pipes for the new vanities in both bathrooms. The electricians came in to reroute and install whisper quiet exhaust fans and additional outlets. Once again, every evening the work areas were cleaned up. As with any project, there are unforeseen challenges that tax the patience and increase the cost but that should be expected. The electricians ended up having to cut sheet rock in the basement above the electrical panel and in our master bedroom closet adjoining the master bathroom to run additional electrical line and circuit. Buck's team could have wired the bathroom utilizing the existing wiring on the same circuit and probably gotten away with it from the inspector but that is not how they operate. After the tilers had installed the master bath room tile, we were shocked with the look of the tile. Definitely a learning lesson to not judge tile by one or two pieces. We told Steve to not proceed with grouting until we could make a decision on whether to pull the tile up based on what we could find and the additional cost. Somehow, the message got garbled and the tilers pulled up the tile before we could make a final decision. This was a costly act as we had resigned ourselves with keeping the tile since there was going to be a significant cost to replace. Buck and I discussed and we reached an agreement to split the labor cost to replace the tile and Buck had an interior decorator assist us in totally redesigning the tile for the bathroom. The work proceeded and we were so much happier with all of the new tile. I need to note that one of the differences between Collins and a couple of other contractors we talked with was the selection of the top rated building products that Collins utilized. The floors were properly leveled and screwed and Schluter Ditra membrane was installed which provides a totally waterproof base and allows the tile to float, reducing the chance of cracking. The tile work in the master bathroom shower is extraordinary with arched niches tiled in glass as well as a convex seat. The attention to detail and craftsmanship was worth the wait. After finishing the master bathroom, they moved to the hall bathroom, utilizing the same high quality products to install the tile floor. All of the mirrors, light fixtures toilets, vanities and their fixtures were installed and all the walls were completed to a paint ready status. The only real snafu was after the glass company had installed the frameless glass around the shower and I went to try the shower after waiting three days for the silicone around the glass to cure. Unfortunately, the hot and cold water had been reversed. This took place on a Saturday and on Monday, Steve, the foreman, came by and, after determining what the problem was, cut a whole in out bedroom wall behind the shower and re-plumbed the two lines, and then repaired the wall. WE could not be happier with the quality of the work and absolutely love both of our bathrooms. After being thrilled about the work in both of the full bathrooms, we asked Buck and his crew to replace the vinyl flooring in one of our half baths with marble tile and install a new quiet exhaust fan and toilet. As with the first two bathrooms, we could not be happier. One final note, Buck and the Collins team do not paint, which we knew up front, so I hired a highly rated painting contractor off of Angie's List to paint the two full bathrooms and painted the half bath myself.

Collins Tile and Stone provided a beautiful tile design and their work transformed our master bath. They did exactly what they promised and were onsite every day right on time until the project was finished. They provided protection for the floors and other areas that might be affected by the work they were doing and cleaned up every day before they left. They offered suggestions as the project progressed which resulted in a better finished product. Also, I would give them an A+ for responsiveness. All calls and emails were addressed very quickly and thoroughly and any adjustments that were necessary were completed without delay. I would highly recommend them to anyone planning a bathroom remodel.

Buck and his whole crew at Collins Tile and Stone are incredibly attentive - both in terms of craftsmanship and customer service. While they were not eh "cheapest" installer, we were intent on hiring the team we thought would do the best job. Long story short, we made the right choice. From the start, it was clear the Buck is incredibly knowledgeable about his product, and the materials he works with. He recommended a different caulk than we had picked up from our supplier, based on his past experience with glass tile. His estimate came in a timely fashion, and his team showed up on on time, and left our home just as they found it. Most importantly, their meticulous install of the back splash is incredible. They may not be the cheapest, but they are the best. And for as much as we enjoy being in the kitchen, Collins Tile and Stone is worth every last penny. And talk about going above and beyond, the team fixed our broken faucet in the kitchen! It was telling that Buck's team went ahead and fixed it for us. Because of the pride they take in their work, Buck's team couldn't leave the kitchen without everything being perfect.

Buck Collins was responsive with the estimate. His estimate was not the cheapest but we felt we had the most confidence in his ability to get the job done and we were not disappointed. His team was excellent. They performed the work in one week and cleaned up after themselves before leaving every day. The single downside was having to wait about 2 months for the work to begin due to their busy schedule but good things are worth the wait!

When we decided to embark upon our flooring upgrade which involved removing most of the hardwood on our entire mid level floor and replacing with a more durable tile, we looked at 3 contractors from AngiesList. From a price standpoint Collins Tile & stone wasnt the cheapest but there was no doubt in my mind as to whom I would pick just based on how thorough Buck Collins, the owner, was on my initial contact with him. He also had the added value of a designer, Tracy, whom came to my house and helped me pick out the tile too which was a huge plus as she gave me great advice and recommended a tile based on the description I gave her and some images I had saved on my Pinterest account. Once we gave them the go ahead to commence the project, they gave us amazing service all the way. They provided me with a timeline of when the job would start and finish and listened to my concerns about how long I would be without a washer or access to my kitchen (I have 2 young children who create ALOT of laundry!) The team who worked the job were punctual, polite and made sure that my house was free from any debris or mess each day when they left. They even put my washer back in over the weekend so I could do laundry. In addition to all this, Buck checked in with me by email nightly to make sure I was happy with the progress. The caliber of the work was fantastic, and I am thrilled with how our floor turned out. I am a firm believer in getting what you pay for. The quality and professionalism I received from Buck Collins and his team was amazing. They are knowledgeable, they listen to your vision and they make it a reality. Do not hesitate to use these guys if you are looking for any kind of upgrade or renovation that involves tile. Collins Tile & Stone rock!!

It appears that member may have us confused with another contractor. Member contacted us, and we had a lengthy discussion regarding their kitchen remodel, as well as two bathrooms. One was a complete remodel, and one was just replacing the tub. We discussed design options, and how we work. We set up an estimate appointment for Jan 15, and we were set to go with our estimator (owner of the company), as well as our partner who does our kitchen cabinet design. On Jan 8, I received a voice message from member stating they were out of town, and needed to cancel the upcoming appointment, and would get back in touch with us if they were interested in rescheduling. I do not feel this warrants a "D" grade, as we were responsive to member, had them on the schedule, and they cancelled the appointment.
