Buck Collins gives free estimates, and his prices are reasonable. We have used him for previous tile work and also cracked tile repair in the past. We did not know what we were going to find when we asked Collins Tile to tackle our nasty shower stall; had no idea what we would find underneath the moldy tile seat. But we had complete confidence in his company--his tile guys are the best--and we knew we would be in good hands. Even if the job were to go beyond the 2 days' estimated work (for removal of seat and wall/floor retile), we knew he would treat us fairly. Fortunately, we had the best outcome and the job went as planned, with no surprises lurking beeath the surface. This time, Ben was the tile setter. He does beautiful work. Shows up exactly on time, has all the correct tools and DROP CLOTHS (we thank you for that!) and takes good care of your house--careful about walls and halls, covering areas, using a shop vac, cleaning up outside with hose and sponges. He's aimiable, confident, competent, and gets right to work, quietly. Stays right on task, methodically. Invites you to check progress when appropriate. Worked hard to ensure our satisfaction. When he's done, your tile is perfect. Use this company--you'll be happy you did. Check out their website--our job was tiny--Buck has done some amazing, very high-end creative things.

I called for a quote and the President, Buck Collins arrived the next day. His quote was slightly more expensive than the others, however, he was the most knowledgeable. A few days later his employees showed up to do the job which took 2 days.

Buck was very professional and informative. They were able to squeeze our job in in a short turn around that we required and completed on time. There were a few things that we pointed out to them after the job and they returned and resolved the issues quickly. I highly recommend Collins Stone and Tile for tile installation work.

Collins Tile and Stone did a great job. The employees were prompt and very professional. Mr. Collins was very prompt with his site visit for an estimate as well as getting the estimate back to us. It took the installers just under a day and a half to lay the tile and grout. Mr. Collins came back to check on the project after it was completed and said they'd be willing to fix anything I may have an issue with. Mr. Collins also followed up by email to make sure we were still happy with the work, which we are.
Description of Work: Collins Tile and Stone installed a porcelain tile floor in our recently remodeled 165 sq. ft. kitchen. They used the Ditra underlayment system due to the subfloor (19/32" with 16" centers) to keep from having to install additional plywood followed by backer board.

Overall, our experience with Collins was great, and we will hire him again when we are ready to redo our other bathrooms. After having to fire our original contractor Collins' saved us. Collins workers demode the bathroom and started this project from start and made sure we were involved in the entire process. When they thought the tiles would not look right with the original layout, they immediately got us so that we could agree on an option. They were very patient with us and allowed us to talk things through. Collins referred us to a great interior designer that helped us choose tiles and design our bathroom. It was a simple process that we did not experience with our previous contractor. Collins walked us through the entire process which made this a positive experience for us. Yes, Collins is more expensive them other contractors, but worth the extra expense.
Description of Work: Collins was the contractor we chose to come in and remodel a bathroom that had been started on by another general contractor. Our original contractor had been fired half way through this project because the shower walls were not straight/ flat at all. We chose Collins after a long review of angies list and calling the referrals of non Angie's list members he had provided. All were outstanding. Collins team started our project on time His workers showed up on time and were extremely professional and friendly. Through out the entire project the Owner, Buck Collins was in daily contact with us and answered all of our questions with out hesitation. Collins was aware of our previous experience and made sure we were involved and comfortable through out the entire process. When we encountered an issue with the floor. Collins was on it right away and made sure it was fixed immediately. Collins was extremely attentive to us and any concerns we had assuring that when the project was completed, we were satisfied.

I actually found out about Collins Tile & Stone, not through Angie's list but though one of Buck's other tile-related businesses and hired him for this work. He's the kind of guy I love working with and wouldn't hesitate to hire again. Honest, professional and straight forward. Everything you'd hope a contractor would be when you have to (sometimes) blindly place thousands of dollars in their hands and hope they don't rip you off. It's like having a good friend that also happens to own a tile contracting business. So we discussed at length what was going on with our kitchen and foyer. And there was a lot of initial back and forth discussion and in-house meetings. The kitchen was gutted and being renovated by a different company that I ended up not liking one bit. So instead of them doing the floors, I separately hired Collins Tile & Stone to do the kitchen and foyer floors and I couldn't be more pleased. I only wished I learned about Collins before he hired that other company, but that's best left for their own (very negative) review. I didn't want to cut corners in materials, knowing that installation labor and expertise was really the most costly. So Buck said there were a few local places he recommended to pick out high quality tiles, and that also turned out to be a very nice place with very knowledgable people and a very large selection. All the initial prep work we went through paid off so everything went smoothly once the project started. The workers he employs are equally nice, trustworthy and very good at their jobs. And once they started there was really no down time until they finished, several days later. I also hired one of Collins carpenters to install custom built railing and stairs but I'll separately review that as it's not tile work. A very positive experience. As I said above, I'm looking around my house to see what these guys can do next!
Description of Work: We had the wood parquet floors in our foyer removed and replaced with porcelain tile and had electric floor heating mats installed. Also the entire kitchen floor installed. Kitchen had been previously gutted down to the studs including the floor joists. Contractor doing that work didn't give me a warm and fuzzy (to say the least) so I decided to have Buck Collins do the entire floor in the kitchen. Had lengthy conversations and in-house meetings with Buck about the kitchen floor starting with the subfloor materials, heated floor mats, and selection of porcelain tile. I didn't want any skimping on materials and was pleased to learn just how involved Buck is in the tile contracting industry. He's always seeking out the industry's best materials and ways of doing work in order to benefit his customers. They also installed pre-wiring for a future bathrooms' heated floor. The results are absolutely perfect, beautiful and warm tile floors in our kitchen and foyer. We even got the glow-in-the-dark grout, which is a subtle (due to the very thin grout lines) but pretty cool affect. I'm looking around my house to see what these guys can do next!

Everything about this project ran smoothly -- from estimate, to scheduling, to the work itself. Though this kitchen backsplash was a simple, straightforward project -- no expensive tiles or complicated design-- it was carried out with the care a much larger job would have received. The work was beautifully done. This company prides itself on not taking shortcuts in either materials or labot that would diminish the quality (not to mention the longevity) of the work. Mr Collins and his tile workers were most helpful, personable, and professional, certainly, but they were also just a pleasure to work with. All my questions were answered with complete explanations. They clearly enjoy making a design on paper come to life in tile and stone. I really think that we all want to find the most skilled people for work like this, but we are really lucky if we find the artists.

Working with Collins Tile and Stone was?in a word? FABULOUS! It was evident to me from the moment I met Buck Collins that he is extremely knowledgeable about tile and genuinely passionate about installing it correctly. He spent a great deal of time working with me to identify the perfect tile for our home and then blew me away with the level of detail in the estimate he presented! It wasn't just a bottom line number? every step of the project was clearly outlined. He also provided phone numbers to verify they were properly insured. Even though they were not the lowest bid I received, I felt confident Collins was the right company for the job. The crew?Charlie, Ben, Carlos, Peter, and Steve?arrived every day on time (7:30 AM!), were always polite, and left the job site (essentially our whole main level) clean and tidy each evening. Buck was there each morning giving me a status update and the plan for that day. He also sent me an email each evening to check on the progress. To say there was constant communication?not to mention confidence on my part that job was being done correctly?would be an understatement. The work Collins did in our home took nearly two weeks to complete, and it could not have gone more smoothly! We are thrilled with the results and cannot say enough good things about Buck Collins and his team at Collins Tile and Stone!

If there was a rating higher than excellent, we would give it to Collins Tile and Stone. From the very first time we were visited by Buck to provide us our initial estimate, all the way through job completion, it was a fantastic experience. Remodeling a bathroom can be a rather scary proposition with all of the options and costs. We informed Buck what we were looking for, including several variations. We gave Buck a price range we were looking for and he worked with us to help fit the remodeling job into that budget (and we ultimately feel we didn't sacrifice anything to get there). He visited us 3 different times to discuss our options and make sure we were all on the same page with what we wanted. He clearly knows his profession inside and out, and we never felt we were being pushed or given a "hard sale" of something we didn't want or need. He was the only contractor (of the 4 we had estimates from) to look in the basement at floor joist spacing to make sure he recommended the proper product and installation. Work started on the promised start date. His crew was very professional and courteous, and obviously very skilled at what they do. With the master bath upstairs, the crew was careful with drop cloths to ensure any mess and dust was absolutely minimal. We had a crew of 3-4 folks the entire time. We were impressed that Buck himself visted the job site every day, not only to make sure we were aware of what had been done that day and what the plan was for the next day, but also just to discuss the job and ask if we had any questions or issues. Upon demolition of the existing shower, it was discovered that the wall studs were not even close to being even. All studs behind the shower wall were replaced to ensure a quality, long-life shower install. Even though it was not in the baseline job plan, the crew was able to find a way to extend our stand-up shower by 4-5 inches with no impact. They re-centered the drain and shower plumbing to match the extension at no additional cost. The crew paid attention to the planned tile layout, and made several suggestions/recommendations to items that weren't apparent when the plan was laid out on paper. Removing and installing the new light fixtures (including movement of the boxes and dry wall repair) was an add-on during the work, as was installation of the new exhaust fan, and all were done in an extremely professional manner. We also can't say enough about Buck's recommendations for countertop and shower enclosure suppliers. His recommendations were spot-on, and we are as happy as can be with our new bathroom. We must admit that when we started the job, we thought we were looking for "just a tile installation", but with Collins, we got a whole lot more at a very reasonable price. We have already passed recommations along to our friends, and will use them again for any future jobs.
Description of Work: Near full remodel of master bath. Remove old tile floor, shower enclosure and pan, vanity and sink. Install tile on floor, shower, and around spa tub, including listello. Install new tile shower (replacing old pan), new vanity, shower fixtures, including some new plumbing. Installed new vanity light wiring and new exhaust fan.

Another great experience with Collins Tile and Stone! In the late winter and early spring, they remodeled our entire kitchen and did such a great job we had them back to remodel our guest/kids bathroom. The project entailed gutting the current bathroom (tub, wall tile including current backer board, floor tile, vanity, builder grade mirror that left huge hole in the wall, hollywood lighting, and toilet) and then rebuilding it. To ensure better quality, Collins Tile and Stone rebuilt the tub walls using Schluter Kerdi Board – a waterproofed board to assist with any leaks/water damage in the future. Also to protect against tile/grout cracks (due to our wide floor joists), Schluter Ditra was used. The tile work looks amazing and the tub, toilet, vanity, mirrors, lighting and even the accessories (towel bars/rings, toilet paper holder) were all installed to perfection! Best still…the bathroom was completely finished within 7 days! The workers were professional, trustworthy, and explained anything that was out of the ordinary in easy terms to understand. I cannot imagine that any other contractor can beat the professionalism, craftsmanship, and quality of Collins Tile and Stone!

The job took about 4 hours and he worked on his knees virtually the entire time. He did the unglazed kitchen and guest bathroom floors, as well as my 100% tile shower, shower pan, shower bench, bathroom walls and floors, which are glazed tile. He also caulked all around the master bath. He thoroughly cleaned up after himself; I paid him, and it was a wonderful job. People asked me if I had gotten new tile. Not only did he do a great job, he is a warm and friendly person. Would recommend George and Collins in a heartbeat, and feel I more than got my $$'s worth.
Description of Work: Contacted the company re re-grouting my kitchen and both bathrooms. George returned my call very quickly and told me he'd be happy to take a look at my unglazed and glazed tile floors and master shower. I found out that replacing grout is passe' and time-consuming; the new method is steam-cleaning the tile and adding a paste tinted to your grout color over the existing grout. . I didn't feel the price was too high, since my dad had been an independent master paperhanger who worked in the White House, every Embassy in DC, the First Ladies' Hall at the Smithsonian, and dealt with very expensive and delicate papers and fabrics. Also, even though George used a machine, he was on his knees the entire time.

Truly cannot say enough about Collins Tile and Stone. The personnel were amazing to work with! Three men primarily worked on our job and all were terrific at their craft. Prior to starting work, they put up plastic sheeting to protect the rest of the house as much as possible from the pesky white dust that tends to coat every surface during a remodel. When demolishing the kitchen they were able to take out the cabinets, appliances and most surprisingly the granite countertops in PERFECT condition. We were able to sell all the items easily because of their dedication to preserving each item. Also, in respect to the workers, they were easy to speak with (all fluent English), nice, and it was evident they all cared that the job they did was exactly what we wanted! If something unexpected came up, they would contact me immediately and discuss it with me before moving forward/making changes. Typically each night the owner would contact us via telephone or email to give us an update of what occurred during the day and what was expected to be completed the next day. Communication was excellent! During cabinet installation due to original builder issues (floors that aren’t level, walls not straight, etc.) the installer worked tediously to make sure all cabinets would be level (the small shims that were put in to make this happen were unbelievable). We used our usual granite installer (not affiliated with Collins Tile and Stone) and he said that he would install granite on cabinets installed by the Collins’ guys any time as they were so perfectly level they just had to place the granite on top – it took the granite people only 1 hr and 15 min. to install the entire kitchen because there was no additional “leveling” to be done. Another example that demonstrates the pride they take in their projects was with our backsplash. I had worked out a design with the tile company and when the workmen began looking at the tile when it came in, I received a call from the owner suggesting I look at it prior to installation. After getting to know me during the remodel, the guys did not feel that I would like the exact design. Sure enough, they were right - and better yet, they worked with me to find a very similar design that would work better and had it installed the next day! In addition to these examples of fine workmanship, they also had to install a professional series flat back, steam convection dual fuel oven. After reading the installation guide they had to install copper water lines and more difficult cut/replace our current (abnormally long) gas pipe. The easiest thing for them to do would have been to just got a hole in our finished basement ceiling and install a new junction with a shorter pipe, but in order not to cut a huge hole, one of the workers was able to find a place in the water heater area where the ceiling was unfinished and twisted himself in to get to the main line and add the shorter pipe there. This saves us from having to patch and then repaint the entire basement ceiling! Working with Collins Tile and Stone was so easy with such great results that we are having them back to remodel our bathroom this summer. If you are looking for GREAT CRAFTMANSHIP and HIGH QUALITY END PRODUCTS to be delivered ON TIME and at a FAIR PRICE – Collins Tile and Stone is the company you are looking for!
Description of Work: Work included a complete remodel of an approximately 400 square foot kitchen and also a laundry room. Everything in the kitchen was required to be removed (floor, cabinets, backsplash and appliances). Since the current kitchen was gutted, all of the following was required to complete the job: tile floor installation (using 18x18 tiles – not the easiest to work with), new cabinets, new granite countertops, backsplash, under cabinet lighting, plug mold, and appliances.

Simply fantastic. All work was performed by highly skilled craftsmen that obviously take great pride in their work. They were patient, pleasant and professional. Not one decision was taken out of my hands that I didn't specifically agree to - they checked every deviation with me beforehand and explained every hiccup so we could come to a mutual decision on the fix. For example, we have a "bump out" on one side of the kitchen which required either that cabinets on one side of the stove be placed farther from the wall or that cabinets on the other side be cut down so they didn't extend out farther on one end of the kitchen versus the other. They were willing to do either and I left the decision to them, whichever was easier, so long as the cabinets lined up. They ended up cutting down some of the cabinets which I believe was more work for them but which saved us the cost of having to purchase deeper countertops and making our galley kitchen narrower. They were extremely careful with the appliances that would be reused, and with existing cabinetry in our mudroom that they had to work around. They cleaned up after themselves each day. My puppy absolutely adored each and every one of them, and they were unbelievably accommodating - taking him outside periodically and allowing him to wander around to check up on them! In addition to accommodating my dog, they also accommodated every add on and adjustment that I requested. I expect to receive good value for my money but this company went well above and beyond. First, the price was more than competitive (a company that we did not hire estimated our job at $130,000 - almost 2.5 times more than Collins Tile and Stone!!!). Second, I had an initial design in mind for the backsplash, which I have no doubt they would have happily completed. However, they made a suggestion - one that meant more work for them - which ended up being much better than my idea. The new 1/2 bath vanity was a custom-built cube and turned out to be challenging - the pipes had to be extended from the wall in order to fit through the cube - but this work, too, was done flawlessly. They cut holes for each line and it looks beautiful, although I would have been happy with a big hole in the back of the cube and had forgotten to tell them they could do that. The crew was exceptionally open and patient - explaining their plan for the day each morning and projecting out for me what the week looked like, how much longer they thought the whole job would take, etc. The owner was extremely attentive - I received a phone call or e-mail from him every day of the project, sometimes over the weekend, with information on what had been accomplished and next steps. I am a perfectionist (to a fault), and I can honestly report that there is not one thing I wish had gone differently or better, nothing I am unhappy with or the least bit troubled by. I am eager to hire this company again to do two full baths. I recommend them to you without reservation - you will not be disappointed.
Description of Work: Work covered a 30 foot long galley kitchen, a half bath and a mudroom. We began with a complete tear-out of an existing porcelain tile floor, cabinets/countertops, range hood and backsplash. Appliances were being reused so they carefully stored them for us in other parts of the house. Installed: heated, porcelain tile floor throughout; new cabinets, some wood and some stainless, some with specialized hinges (lift up cabinet fronts); countertops/sink; backsplash; electrical (including some in-cabinet lighting, under cabinet lighting, required service upgrades, track lighting, semi-recessed); roof vented range hood (as opposed to the wall-vented hood that was removed). Significant dry-wall repair was necessary, and new trim was installed to match existing trim in other parts of the house. All appliances were reinstalled (at the earliest opportunity so we would have use of them) and a new vanity with sink and a toilet were installed in the 1/2 bath. They also tiled over a brick hearth in our library.

Buck Collins arrived promptly for initial estimate, and his tile man arrived ontime a week later to start the job. Both were polite, professional and friendly. The tile man worked quickly, completing the ceiling repair job while the wall plaster dried, thereby saving time and costs. He worked quickly and thoroughly cleaned up all areas upon completion. Buck Collins arrived afterward to inspect the job and ensure that I was satisfied. I would definitely recommend Collins Tile and Stone, and will use them for future jobs.
Description of Work: Repaired a 2' x 2' hole in bathroom wall caused by plumbing repair. Replaced plaster wall and tiled over it. Final result looks identical to original wall. Also repaired a water leak hole in closet ceiling. Again, replaced plaster and filled hole.

We contacted Collins Tile after reading the other Angie's List reviews. I had had a bit of trouble finding someone to do such a "small" job, but I am incredibly happy that Buck and Co. seem to realize that today's small job might just be tomorrow's big job. Buck took my initial call and scheduled me for a visit/estimate the very next day. He was on time basically to the minute (which, espcially considering I was is third or fourth appointment of the day is pretty hard to do). He was very professional and gave me great confidence that they could do the job, and do it well. I really appreciated his approach and for what it's worth left feeling comfortable with the estimate, and that they seemed to be a pretty reputable outfit. We were able to schedule an install date on the spot, and he was flexible to my schedule constraints/needs. He was also very diligent about following up with me, and making sure all details were well understood. Eddie (who did the work) showed up exactly on time (early actually) on install date. He was extremely professional and did an excellent job with the tile. We're exceedingly happy not only with the quality of the work, but also with the fact that we feel like we have made a trusted connection with a highly professinoal and skilled outfit that we'll absolutely use for any future work that might arise.
Description of Work: We had them install Solistone tiles onto the face and sides of our kitchen island.

We had our upstairs bathrrom renovated because the old bathroom shower and toliet were leaking to the floor below. Once the demolotion work begun, additonal repairs had to be done to the old carpentry and plumbing because of poor quality of the previous work. The workers were very punctual and the work was completed fairly quickly given the additonal work required.

Buck Collins and crew did a fantastic job from start to finish. We were updating our guest bath and masterbath in preparation to sell our home. We sold our home in 13 days thanks to the great job performed by Collins Tile and Stone. What I liked most is that he has an experienced and friendly crew that he uses all the time. They were there when they said they would be and did the job in a very timely fashion since we were up against a deadline for listing the house. I secured all of the materials and one of the vanities arrived a week later than I was expecting so Buck was able to shift work one week and still had everything done on time. I also greatly appreciated the extra work they had to do to one of my floors in preparation of laying down the tile. The previous tile floor had cracked and it became obvious after they removed the old floor that it was not level. They spent several hours putting material down to make it level. I offered to pay for their time but Buck would not accept it. I did provide lunch everyday for the crew so hopefully that helped.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced two 48 inch vanities and vanity tops with faucets. Removed old tile and old vinyl and replaced both bathrooms with 12 inch ceramic tile.

Mr. Collins was very polite and professional. He estimated about $3k to totally strip the powder room, install tile over concrete, put in a new toilet and vanity. He provided me contact information for all the vendors where I could view and purchase the materials. They could schedule the work within 2 to 3 weeks. We decided not to remodel, but to replace a leaking toilet through a plumber. It was a bit more than we had planned to spend. Our goal for the project was $1,500. If we had wanted to remodel I believe based on the estimate experience that they would have been a good choice.
Description of Work: Buck Collins came to my home to give an estimate for a total remodel of our powder room.

Mr. Collins was the gentleman that I worked with. He directed me to a designer at his tile supply company. She was the one who actually drew up the design. I was very pleased with it. Mr. Collins executed the design very well. He did it on time and on budget. The work was of high quality.
Description of Work: I used Collins Tile & Stone to install a tile kitchen backsplash.
We had an all-around positive experience with this contractor. Here are a few highlights: *Mr. Collins arrived on-time for every appointment with us, as did his employees. All were professional. All spoke fluent English. They were courteous and cleaned up after themselves. My family enjoyed having them around. * Mr. Collins always answered email and telephone calls in a timely way * The new tile and grout work still looks great after 10 months. We didn't want to spend a ton of money on new bathroom tile. Their regrouting job, combined with the new fixtures have made my bathrooms come alive again. I was pleasantly surprised at how good they look. Other installations are holding up well. * The team corrected all problems in a timely way. * Mr. Collins stuck to his price. * The team stuck to the schedule. We required a very tight schedule. All work had to be done between January 2 and January 16--in time for me to host out-of-town guests for the inauguration. To my amazement, they were able to finish the job despite a few unexpected glitches along the way.
Description of Work: Partial remodel of 1 kitchen and 2 bathrooms: demolition of kitchen counter and floor, tiled kitchen and bathroom floors and kitchen backsplash, regrouted bathroom tile, installed all new toilets, sinks, vanities, medicine cabinets, sink faucets, shower heads and handles, bathroom lighting and ceiling fans.
