I was really disappointed. They came out for a scheduled appointment after showing up without an appointment a week or so earlier. I let it go that they just showed up because they have such great reviews. I had a lot of questions as we are totally new to working with contractors- and the one experience we had was a really bad one. He told me they sub all the work out because real employees don't do a good job. I then made the apparent mistake of asking if they do lien releases...I was advised by a coworker that it was something I should ask about- so I did. ( What Angie's list says about lien releases: [*** Link removed ***] ) He acted like I was crazy to even ask, told me no contractor, "maybe 2 or 3 ever," would sign one, and started talking about liens not mattering until you sell your house (?). He made me feel like I'd done something wrong just by asking. Anyway- it was a very odd experience. Potts never sent an estimate- I guess they thought asking about consumer protection meant we were a risk... Instead of taking the opportunity to help me better understand- they just blew us off, no follow-up.

Response from Potts Brothers LLC
Mr. Potts went out at the scheduled appointment time and met with the Angie's list member. She had several question 1. was about our subcontractors. Mr. Potts assured her we do not hire day Laborers that work by the hour. We hire real painting companies that have worked for us for the last 20 years. Most of them were at one point employees of ours. Now they have there own Companies. That showes our family relationship with our workers. We understand there are a lot of contractors out there that make it bad for the rest of us trying to work and do whats is right for our customers. But to ask my company and my subcontractors to give up our only recourse to recover payment if a owner decides not to pay us is not something we want to participate in. You can read reviews about contractors and find out what kind of business they do. We are very proud of our reviews on Angie's List and try to make our members very satisfied with our work. We dont ask our customers to give up there rights to take us to [Member Information Removed] to get what they feel has been wronged to them. Mr. Potts told her we would not sign a lien release. She is requiring a lien release to work on her property and we respectfully declined to sign. Mr. Potts did not provide a estimate because she said everyone that worked on her property would have to sign a lien release. We truly wish our member finds a good contractor.

The estimate and quoting process went fine. The price seemed fair when compared to other quotes I had received. They showed up a little late, but had a good-sized crew with them. They did a good job putting down drop cloths and plastic to minimize dust and most splatters. This was to be a one full-day job. Overall, the work seemed to start off well. I walked them through the work to be performed and they got to it. They started with the drywall work and seemed to address all the problem areas I wanted fixed prior to painting. Then, things started to go downhill. It seemed like the crew was rushing to get done well before 5 PM. They finished work a couple hours earlier than expected. The initial finished product was not satisfactory at all. The drywall repairs in the ceiling (especially on the nail pops) were not very smooth or consistently finished. The nail pop repairs didn't look much better than the nail pops they were supposed to fix. There were multiple spots in the kitchen ceiling paint that were just missed or not fully covered. There was a lot of roller lint in the paint on the kitchen wall. There were several large bubbles (4-6 inches long) in the paint/drywall compound in the ceiling upstairs. There was ceiling paint all over the crown molding upstairs. I had them re-paint part of the crown molding and kitchen wall before they left, but they had to come back a couple business days later with a smaller crew to basically re-do most of the job after I spoke with the owners. On attempt #2, I had them smooth/re-feather much of the ceiling drywall work. They had to completely re-paint the kitchen ceiling, paint additional crown molding upstairs (to cover up the ceiling paint they got on it), fix other drips and finish issues found, and spot painted the upstairs ceiling after performing additional drywall repairs. Even at the end of the second visit, they tried to leave with bubbles in their repairs, which I had to have them fix again. They stayed late at my house (after 5 PM) due to the re-work. I noticed the day after they "finished" that they again missed several spots when they re-painted the kitchen ceiling. Overall, I found a lackluster attention to detail and pride in workmanship. The crew seemed more interested in leaving my house quickly than making sure the job was performed to my satisfaction, even when there were obviously issues with the work performed the first and second times. Potts Brothers management was prompt in attempting to address my concerns after the initial visit. But, even their second attempt was not performed completely to my satisfaction, and I had to re-paint some of their work after they left the second time. I will not use Potts Brothers again due to the sloppy work, lack of focus on customer satisfaction, and poor crew professionalism. There was no follow-up from Potts Brothers management after their crew left the second time to see if the work was performed to my satisfaction. I will not use them again.

The job took four days,. The first day was wall paper removal. The rest was painting. The five (and sometimes) six man crew knew their business and performed well. They were willing to make changes to the plan quickly and without complaint. perfect clean up afterwards. I certain will use them again. I especially like that they are a small family-owned business in our own area.

From start to finish my experience with this company was outstanding. The estimator arrived punctually and was able to give me an estimate the same day as well as scheduling the work. The workers arrived during one of the hottest days of the year and with little fan fare completed this job well above my expectations. I did have a problem with wood rot in a number of places and these were skillfully resolved as was the actual painting. I would definitely recommend this company and will certainly call on them for any future requirements.

I was very pleased to be working with Potts brothers. Darlene schedule Al to come out and give me an estimate. Al not only looked at the things I knew needed work, but also pointed out deterioration in things that I had not noticed. His estimate was reasonable compared to others. I chose Potts bothers, because their estimate was more thorough. The work was done in a professional manner. Nolan came out with the crew and went over all the work to be done. We noticed some more deterioration ( which was uncovered after the pressure washing), which Nolan added to the list of things to do. He helped in choosing the right stain for the deck and got the crew started. The onsite supervisor Robert was always smiling and willing to do/rectify anything I pointed out to him. The crew was very efficient and they finished the work in 2 days ( they put in long hours on the 2nd day to make up for the lost first day due to the summer heat). After the work was completed, the next day I noticed that my front door did not close properly and there was some small works that was not done completely. I called Al and let him know. He promptly dispatched his crew to take care of it all the same day. Overall, it was a pleasure working with Potts bothers and all the people at the business.

We had a very prompt estimate from Al Potts, and they stuck to the estimate. Darlene Hobson, in the office was very efficient, and great to work with. Jesse Potts came out to discuss our large color scheme, and made sure we saw what the colors would look like when finished. Jesse frequently returned to make sure everything was going well, and that we were pleased with the work. Their foreman, Roberto, was a thrill to work with. He was very pleasant, and made sure that we were informed throughout the whole process. There were five men working, and he was one of them. He didn't just stand around and give orders. They worked for a week, and if they started a project, they made sure it was finished before they left that day. They were very careful with all our plants, and none of them were damaged. They cleaned up each day, and after they were finished, you would never know they were there, except our house looked brand new. I had my concerns about being inconvenienced, but now I wish we had called them sooner. We will call them again for some interior painting.
Description of Work: Powerwashed house, deck, shed. Replaced front & rear soffits, installed vent strips, replaced rake boards and trim pieces. Replaced some warped boards on shed. Scraped loose paint, rough sanded and caulked when needed. Removed gutters and liaised with gutter company installation. Installed a shed door. Two coats of paint on house and outbuilding, two coats of stain on deck railing.

Potts Bros. are fantastic. The ease of working with this group was refreshing. From beginning to end there wasn't a single problem. The expectations for the job were clearly addressed in the proposal and the execution of all the work was wonderful. The crews arrived when they said they would, we're incredibly nice and left not a spec of debris or mess behind. We love that they are a family business and It looks as though they can handle just about any project we could possibly need done. We plan to use them again and again.

A+++++++++ We have used the Potts Brothers for 3 different jobs since last fall and have been extremely happy with the high quality of their work and excellent customer service, at a reasonable price. They repaired the siding and stained the exterior of our townhouse, making the exterior look new again. We were so pleased with that job that we had them do the interior painting at our new house and had them update the bathroom in our townhouse. The inside crew managers as well the Potts Brothers themselves provided excellent communication when small things came up. We highly recommend this company. (Note - the cost below is for all three jobs.)

I didn't expect to get this work done until the actual spring, but the board trim repairs were a priority for me. As soon as the weather conditions looked good enough, Darlene called to schedule the full job. The day before painting, they came out for power washing to scrape the surfaces, some of which were in notably deteriorating condition. They came out on a Saturday to paint, which was very helpful for my schedule, with a team of about five. My home is brick, so the painting focused on high areas of trim (as much as 3 floors off the ground), as well as one area built of wood. I am really very happy with the wood repairs, and the fresh coat of paint looks wonderful as well. The work was very nicely done, and at competitive cost compared to the options I considered. I found Potts Brothers to be responsive and professional.

They did a terrific job. The only problem I had was on the second day when they had finished the job and left I discovered they had used my bathroom sink to wash out their brushes. There was paint on my new vanity and on the clear grout. I called and told them what had happened and they said they would send someone out to look at it. They never came out. I was able to clean off the paint without a whole lot of effort. Even though this happened I would call them for future paint projects, but keep a closer eye on what they do with their brushes.

Excellent work. Our estimate was provided within two days and it was clear that Mr. Potts understood what we wanted even though there were a large variety of areas that needed to be repaired. When we had a question, we called the office and talked with Darlene who was very accommodating and provided an answer in a timely manner. The team arrived on the date specified and was well organized. The power washing was done a few days prior to the start of the repair work. After the power washing I noticed that two additional deck floor boards needed to be replaced in addition to what we had originally planned. They demonstrated flexibility and offered to replace the two boards at an additional cost of $75 per board. The team worked from 10:00 am until 5:30 pm on Monday, started again at 8:30 am on Tuesday, and finished at 2:30 pm. Their work was of high quality. When I pointed out an area above a garage door that had been painted but did not have a smooth finish, they re-sanded the area and repainted it. When their work was complete, they made sure I was satisfied with everything they had done.

Al Potts, one of the owners came out to give us an estimate. He was very professional and responsive to our questions when we asked for his opinion about the job. He asked what paint we preferred instead of telling us what paint he would provide. What I liked about the proposal in addition to the price was the fact that they had teams of 4-5 painters that could come in and get the job done in a day or two, and not over a week as other proposals stated. The painter's showed up promptly on the scheduled day of painting and got started by moving the big furniture into the middle of the room and carefully covering it. While this was going on the supervisor asked for the color and type of paint we wanted so he could purchase it for the job. Meanwhile the painter's started patching, sanding, and prepping the areas to be painted. Once the paint arrived they painted some test areas on the wall to make sure that was the color we wanted. Once we approved the color, the painting started. They painted the ceiling's, wall's, and trim. Everything got 2 coats and they did an excellent job. This job lasted 2 1/2 days mainly due to the 2 story foyer and hallway upstairs plus the contrasting paint color on the chair rail and wainscoting. After each day they cleaned up by taking up the painting tarps, wiping down the areas and vacuuming up the dust from the sanding and leaving the area spotless. Would definitely use Potts Brothers again. We have used Potts Brother's to paint other rooms in the house as well as the trim on the outside of the house. They also replaced the columns and railing's on our front porch when it was determined that the wood had rotted beyond repair. They also painted my in-laws house inside and out. All of the jobs have been completed in a professional manner and completed on time and within budget.
Description of Work: Painted 2 story Foyer and Living Room, included the usual paint prep. The painter's not only patched and feathered the drywall joints that had cracked in the corners but also several that were noticeable only when the sun hit the walls. They also removed a border in the Living Room and patched it prior to painting.

I found Potts Brothers, LLC through Angie's List. I contacted them for an estimate for exterior paint work on my townhouse along with a few other companies. They were the middle-priced estimate for replacing rotten siding boards on my house and painting those boards, along with replacement of a trim piece and some caulking. They were available to begin the job the following week, which fit with my schedule. A large crew arrived on the scheduled date and got right to work. I had sent Potts an email with a photo of the paint formula that was previously used, and also offered to bring the bucket out the morning of the job so they could match the formula. Potts said it wasn't needed because they could match it. After a few hours, around 1:30 pm, it began to rain with thunder and lightning. The crew could not finish the job that day, but I noticed they were merely cutting out small rotted patches of siding boards rather than replacing whole boards, as agreed and as stated on the work order. I contacted the office and Potts agreed to replace the whole boards as promised. I was not able to take another day off from work, so was not home when they returned the next day. When I got home from work, I noticed that the paint that Potts used clearly did NOT match the shade that was already on the house. I contacted the office, but they had gone home for the day. The next morning, Jesse Potts arrived to look at the paint with me. He agreed that it did not match, but stated it was impossible to spot paint areas and match an older color. That is fine, but the older paint was flat finish, while the paint Potts used was a satin/shiny finish - they did not even attempt to match the finish. What was even worse was that they had half-painted boards and trim areas. The appearance of my house had gotten worse after Potts Brothers had painted it. It looked really horrible and I was certain to get a HOA complaint. I would not have paid Potts Brothers a dime for the original job -- it was truly that bad. After some discussion with Jesse Potts, he conceded that it was not his company's best work. I asked him if he would want a picture of my house posted online as an example of his company's work and he said he would not. I brought out the old paint bucket from the last time my house was painted, Potts Brothers stirred it, applied the paint to the house and it was a perfect match. I wish they would have used that paint formula in the first place. With the correct paint formula in hand, a crew came back out and repainted. They also replaced a few more boards that were rotten that they were going to leave, but weren't in the original work order. I agreed to pay an additional cost for these boards and I wish they would have just told me that they'd found more rotten boards that needed replacing and renegotiated the project cost, rather than planning to leave these rotten boards. After they were finished, using the correct paint, my house looks really great and I was ultimately happy with the work. I would hire Potts Brothers again, but I would only deal with Jesse Potts, who made everything right and who stated that he was the product expert of the company. I'm giving them a "C" for quality, which is perhaps too generous, because they should have gotten the job right the first time.

We have used Potts in the past for painting, and I would recommend them for painting. Since they do other services, I asked them to give an estimate for replacement of rotten wood on our screened in porch. I got the estimate and paid the deposit. The workers arrived, took a small piece of wood, and went shopping for replacement wood. They never returned that day and later told me that they could not find the wood to match the original. They said they would talk to a specialty lumber company. Eventually they told me that the wood would not match the original. I asked if they could send a picture or drop off a sample but they never did either. I called several times and was always told that they were waiting for something or that the person I needed to talk to wasn't there. After at least 6-8 weeks, someone in the office called to say they couldn't do the job and that they were refunding my deposit. I did not appreciate the delays. I eventually got a local carpenter to give me an estimate. He glanced at the wood and immediately knew what to purchase. He had no problem locating it. There are very slight variations in the depth of the grooves; however, these are visible only on close scrutiny.

Excellent from start to finish. The estimate was delivered with a fast turn-around, and accurately reflected the work to be done. They clearly didn't over inflate the cost to include unnecessary wood repairs and were miles ahead of other bids on price. Liaison with the office during the process was polite, friendly, silky smooth and very accommodating. We agreed on a start date and they called to ask if the power washing could be done earlier which was fine. The paint crew along with Mr Potts showed up as scheduled and work went forward efficiently. The crew was well qualified had an excellent go- to supervisor to handle any inquiries. Mr. Potts returned to make sure samples of the siding, trim, and shutter paint colors met our approval before continuing. Perhaps the best part of the job is that very little wood repair work was actually necessary. Another bidder quoted over $7,000.00 dollars in extrasto fix things that weren't broken. I'm overjoyed with the work. the price and the company!

I was pretty impressed by Potts Brother Painting. They provided me with a bid that was right in the middle of two other bids. I chose them because I felt comfortable with them and they were straight forward, no games or complicated bids. They got the job done in 3 days. 3 bedrooms, 2 bath with different Benjamin Moore paint color for each room. I did find a couple of drips marks on my facets, but that was about it and that was easy for me to clean up. I did not like how they originally did the risers on my stairs, so I called up and they immediately came out and fixed it to my satisfaction. I think that is very good, when a contractor fixes problems and does not fight you on it or try to charge you more. They got everything done on time and were quick. I will use use them again.

The previous painting work was very poor and there was a lot of damage underneath the paint that was not found until the job was started. Although there was additional cost above the initial estimate, Potts Brothers took the extra time to ensure that all of the repair work was completed prior to painting. The paint work was excellent and the finished job looked excellent.

It went very well. They were totally accommodating to work their schedule with our schedule?.working around the finish carpenter work being done by another contractor. The quality of their work was highly professional. They were careful to protect other house parts from dust, etc. and cleaned up completely when finished.,
Description of Work: Pressure washed outside of house and painted trim. Inside house, removed wallpaper from entry hall, stairwell, and upstairs hall and prepared surfaces for painting; repaired ceilings in kitchen, laundry room, and family room. Returned later, after finish carpenter work was completed, to paint the ceilings in those rooms, and paint the walls,, trim and ceilings in entry hall, stairwell and upstairs hall.

I would definitely use Pott's again for any painting. Everything went smoothly. From the estimate to the completion of the painting. I am extremely picky and I have no complaints.

Don't waste your time. Emailed for information, and to arrange an appointment. Gave them address, cell, and "their" agreed upon time. Never responded. Did not call, did not show up.
