I would like a response even if only to say they were not interested in my business.
Description of Work: I sent an email to this company through the Angie's List link, outlining the work I need done (8 rooms, upstairs hallway, all ceilings and trim). To date (3/15/12) there has been no response.

We have been highly satisfied with Potts Brothers on all counts: quality, responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism. The job was done in three days (with an interruption of two days because of unfavorable weather). The crew, headed by Herman (whom we commend for courtesy, friendly demeanor and responsiveness) showed up on time every day and performed their chores thoroughly, skilfully and quietly (no blaring radios!). When we pointed out that some cleaning of drivit was also required in the back of the house, the individual in charge returned the following day to complete the job. The site was left in perfectly clean condition and vegetation surrounding the house was undisturbed. A final inspection showed all the tasks to have been completed as required. In sum, Potts Brothers, in our estimation, is an excellent, highly professional painting company to do business with. We recommend them highly
Description of Work: The job involved painting all exterior trim (windows, doors and soffits), spot pressure-cleaning of exterior drivit (synthetic stucco or EIF) and cleaning of exterior surfaces of perimeter gutters on a large two-story private residence in Potomac MD.

Great experience. Bob Potts came to give us the estimate, which I received the very next day. They were a fraction of what others quoted me. They were on time each day and were very courteous. We were supposed to supply the tile and grout. I bought the wrong grout and was supposed to go get the correct one at night before the workmen arrived the next day. I ended up having to go to the hospital for illness. When the workmen arrived the next morning, my husband was about to leave to go get the grout, but Mr. Potts told us not to worry about it, he'd go get it. It was so nice of him to help us. Each morning Bob Potts came to the job to check on things, and he also checked on things at the end. Would definitely use them again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: We had a slow leak from the toilet in our half bath that rotted the subfloor. We needed the floor ripped up, a new subfloor installed, and then the floor tiled. We also had some tiles in another bath that were a bit loose and needed repair. During the project, the workmen noticed that there weren't any supports under the toilet. They showed me the problem and fixed it without charging me.

They did a wonderful job. Something I thought would take 2 - 3 days was completed in just 8 hours. Bob Potts came to give an estimate, and followed up quickly. Jerry Potts showed up the morning of the job and explained to his foreman and other workers what needed to be done. Once he left, there was about 7 guys that painted all day and did a spectacular job! These guys will be the company we go with when we paint the remainder of our home.

Mr. Potts came to our house and walked with us around the entire exterior of the house to examine trim around every window of our house and wrote down for each window where trim needed to be replaced or just repaired. In all cases, he was very honest about where trim could simply be fixed (vs. replaced entirely.) He was very pleasant and professional. His office staff was also very courteous and responsive. We received an estimate/proposal promptly via email and when we called the office to add additional work (i.e., painting front door and window shutters), they were very prompt in providing the additional estimate. Work was scheduled and their crew showed up on the agreed upon date and and on time. The crew was very courteous and performed excellent work. The foreman on the job was also outstanding in supervising the crew. At the end of each day of the 2-day job, they were very meticulous in cleaning up and removing leftover materials. This was the most positive experience I've had with a contractor in many, many years and would recommend Potts Brothers to someone else. Will certainly use them for other jobs at my house.

Al Potts provided a timely estimate. Based on their competitive estimate and Potts Brothers rating on Angie's List, we selected them to do our work. They arrived on time to begin, and while on site, maintained a clean and organized worksite. Our work took several days and for this reason, rain became a consideration in scheduling. Rather than rush to complete the job, Potts Brothers waited until the work area was completely dry and thus helped assure that the job was completed in a quality way. When I looked over the completed work in several trips around the yard later, I saw that each detail that I looked at was done properly. There were several insatnces of items done that I had not really expected, but were nice to see. This confirmed for me that Potts Brothers does quality work and gives value for money. When I have more painting to do, I will definitely call them to do it. Thank You, Potts Brothers!

We needed to have the soffit and gutters scraped and painted. Potts responded right away to an email I sent them, and came out within in a few days for an estimate. They took a trip around the house recorded the areas that needed more than just scraping. Some parts of the soffit were rotted and needed to be replaced. I asked if they would be able to repaired instead. Potts said that it would be easier and more effective to replace the wood. Two days later I received a quote via email and another via mail. I responded to the email to ask if the gutters could be sealed, since they were already going to paint them. They said that it wouldn't be a problem and wouldn't charge me additional for it. So I decided to hire them. The crew arrived exactly at the time promised to start work. I've had other contractors come late, or on time but without materials. After determining how much paint they would need and what specific areas to concentrate on, they began work. Christmas lights were still up, so instead of painting around them or moving them, they asked if we wanted them removed and rolled up. They got bonus points for that. Five hours later and the job was complete. It may not be an exciting thing to spend money on, but boy did it look good when it was completed. Brand new gutters and no more rotted wood sections. Will definitely hire them again to paint exterior or other contracting work.
Description of Work: Scraped, painted, and replaced soffits, facia, rakeboards, and gutters. Also included replacing 3 pieces of facia and soffit. Sealed gutters for no additional charge.

They are a first-rate, professionally run company. An accurate estimate was given before work began and the work was inspected by one of the owners to assure quality. They take a personal interest in every job that is undertaken and we were extremely pleased. We recommend them and intend to use them in the future. Their expertise in all they undertake is evident from start to finish.
Description of Work: Potts Brothers did an excellent job painting five rooms and, remodeling a bathroom (adding a jack and jill door, thresholds, new vanity with granite top, install of bathtub door, matching hardware and plumbing). In addition, when I noticed that the windows wouldn't open and close on our new house and didn't have the the screens installed, they fixed that also.

Of the 3-4 vendors we contacted, Potts gave us the best experience right from the start -- prompt response to our inquiry, site visit followed by clear and complete written proposal with no surprises, speedy answers to our questions via email, a clear hand-off to the crew on the first day of work, and good follow-up at job's end to make sure we were satisfied. I would definitely call them first for any future painting job.
Description of Work: The crew replaced pieces of rotted porch rail pickets and wood trim on the exterior, then applied two coats of paint to all the wood trim on the house. The job took two days with a 2-3 man crew that worked very efficiently. The house looks great now.

After getting the estimate, we notified them we were ready for the work to begin. They provided an estimated start date that was two weeks away. However, four days before they were to start, they called and stated they had a crew who finished another job early and wanted to know if they could do our job. We agreed and they were here in 45 minutes and working within the hour. They had many people working the job and covered all items and flooring with plastic to ensure no damages were done, They made the ceiling repairs, used heat guns to dry the sheetrock compound, sanded and painted everything in a very short time frame. All work was completed a few hours later. The work they performed was outstanding, they cleaned up after all their work, and did all of this ahead of schedule. Highly recommended and would use them again!

Excellent! They showed up on time with a crew of 7. Replaced rotten or damaged wood trim. Excellent job doing this, looks much better now. Paint job was super, covered plants and sidewalk so that there was no mess. Finished job in 2 days. I have only two negative comments. They worked a long day! In fact, they were still painting when it was dark out. I was concerned they were rushing to get the job done and get sloppy. However, the job was done very professional with no mess. The second comment is they did not clean up as well as I would like on the second day, and they left no paint cans. I would have liked to have some paint cans in order to know what kind of paint they used in case we needed to do some touchup in the spring. Overall, excellent job and I am very happy! Paint looks great!!!

The whole thing went very smoothly. There was a little miscommunication about the time set aside for the initial inspection for the proposal, so we ended up doing all of our communication over the phone ( no face to face meetings), but the end results were very satisfying. The crew showed up on the date specified, did a good job, and left the place clean when they left.

A subcontractor to Potts powerwashed the stucco. Potts Brothers painted all the exterior stucco and color matched the caulk used on the beams and filled in the gaps. We have used Potts Brothers for almost 20 years and have always been extremely pleased with the work they do. They always bring enough people to complete the job in one day and all are supervised by one of the Potts brothers. All employees are courteous, neat, reliable and completely clean up after the job. I have also used them to repair drywall issues caused by water damage at my father's house. I have stayed a customer of theirs because of their high quality work and the fact that other painters we previously used have only painted for a couple of hours and then dragged the job out for multiple days. No matter what the size of the paint job we have had, they have always finished it in one day. We have a stucco and beamed style house that other painters don't like to paint because it requires a steady hand and is tedious to paint. Potts has always been meticulous in their attention to detail and I don't feel I need to be around to even supervise them.

This was the second time that Potts Brothers performed work in my house. About two years ago they painted my entire house and did a fantastic job. That being said, this time was a much different experience. Robert initially came to the house and gave my wife an estimate. On the day of the job, a crew of seven showed up right on time. When I asked the foreman if they had covers for their shoes, he said no. Instead of taking his shoes off to take a look at the job upstairs, Nolan sent one of the workers up to take a look. I explained to the worker what I needed done and he seemed to understand. When I spoke to the Nolan again, he wanted to know colors for the walls. (At this point I should have known this was going to be a problem, but I needed the work done, especially in the babies room). I thoroughly explained the scope of the job and he referred to the estimate and said he understood. The crew covered all of the furniture and laid down protective coverings on the floor. I went up stairs to check on the progress about an hour into the job when I noticed they were mudding cracks in the ceiling and prepping for paint. This was quite alarming because none of the ceiling sheet rock was reinforced. I once again pulled the most senior worker to the side to explain to him exactly what was needed. I did not feel confident that he was really grasping what I needed done so I called the office. I explained to Darlene what was happening and she said she was going to call Robert to come by. Robert arrived and I showed him the work that was not being done. He spoke to the crew and assured me that they understood what they needed to do and that the foreman would be at the site for the rest of the day. As soon as he left, Nolan disappeared. The crew eventually started to reinforce the ceiling drywall, but it was evident that they were not prepared for the job due to lack of appropriate equipment to get the job done properly. They were using regular drills instead of drywall screw guns. This isn't much of a problem if you are patient and accurate, but these guys were in a rush and it showed. You would have one guy standing on a bucket trying to push the drywall up and the other guy trying to secure the drywall into the joists. Since they didn't take the time to measure, it was a poke and hope game. At one point there was at a minimum twelve holes in a six inch area. I had enough and called the office again when one of the workers, instead of getting a ladder and moving my bed, decided to stand on my bed - WHILE I WAS STANDING THERE WATCHING HIM. Robert once again came to the house and stayed the rest of the day. Nolan could not understand what the big deal was as long as the finished product looked good. I tried to explain to him that the more holes they make, more mud is needed and then more sanding to fix the mess. Eventually they figured it out to a degree, but by 6:00 pm some of the areas that were already painted needed to be re-spackled due to crooked nails and imperfections showing. I had to stop the job because I had two infants that needed to go to bed. My wife was extremely distressed to see the tremendous amount of dust that was left on the furniture that was covered and already cleaned with a hepa vacuum. We had to hire a cleaning service the next day to help remove the drywall dust that accumulated on all the walls and furniture. It literally looked like sanding from new construction spackling. Ultimately, after speaking with Darlene, I decided to not have the job completed by Potts Brothers. I settled with them and paid half of the bill, approximately $735. Instead of making my life easier by having "professionals" do the job, I now have a job that is not complete that caused me quite a bit of aggravation. While I do give them credit, they did want to try and fix the unfinished work, I did not believe the workers were properly skilled enough to do the drywall work they were hired to do. Very skilled painters yes, skilled at drywall repair, no. What was very troubling was that throughout my discussions after the work was done, I kept hearing about family owned business, professionalism, high standards and top quality work. That is fine and good, but talk is cheap - I want to see results, not hear catchy buzz words. Unfortunately on this job they did not deliver. Just a final example of the disconnect we experienced with Potts Brothers was when they sent us a coupon for our next job with them. Needless to say, I will not be utilizing Potts Brothers for any of my future home improvement needs.
Description of Work: Potts Brothers was hired to repair drywall that was separating from the ceiling joists (initial construction in 1977 used nails instead of screws) for two bedroom ceilings and a hallway ceiling. Once the ceiling was re-secured, it was to be mudded, sanded and painted.

I would like to thank the member for all the compliments he gave us in his review of our work. the member's job was not a normal situation for most couples with two new born babies. The member was concerned about the amount of time it would take to complete the job and was hoping we could get it done with out disrupting his new family as we all know how difficult one new born can be he has two. To under go a ceiling repair where his ceiling was bowed to the point that new dry wall should have been installed and mudded and painted which is what we suggested in the first place but he thought it could be fixed with a few screws instead. We tried to accommodate the work the way he wanted it done to the best of our ability. Im truly sorry we could not satisfy our client.

Found Potts Bros thru Angie's List. Phoned and asked for an estimate. A few days later, met with rep and provided an estimate the next day via email. Original estimate was $780. We agreed and were advised they would likely be able to come on Dec 9, weather permitting. Also said they would call a few days prior. Did not receive a call confirming Dec 9 until the evening before. Crew arrived right on time at 9:30 a.m. Team leader then advised that there was more work than the estimate indicated and proposed an additional $500. Phoned his supervisor and riches a compromise of $250 additional. Wish the original estimate had been more accurate but reasonable solution was reached. A crew of 5 worked through the day and finished about 4 p.m. We are very pleased with the quality of the work done and, despite the hiccup with the estimate, pleased with the cost. Would recommend to others.

The crew arrived promptly and finished in two days. The patching and painting were flawless. The cleanup was complete and the house looks great. The original contract called for new crown molding in the family room. It looked so good that we modified the contract to upgrade the crown molding in the other rooms. They were able to fit all in within the allotted time.
Description of Work: It was only three weeks from estimate to work completion. The owners were prompt and courteous and answered all questions. The work included preparation and painting of all first floor rooms and ceilings including installation of new crown molding; prep and painting of staircase walls and second floor hall walls, doors, and trim.
