Potts Brothers performed exterior painting in preparation for sale of our home. They repaired necessary trim and siding on the spot to the extent it could not even be detected as a repair. It looked good as new. They painted all soffits, trim, window, garage doors, etc., and power washed the entire home. Craftsmen were courteous, timely and efficient. They took extra care to protect the property with drop clothes, plastic coverings, etc. They left us the remaining paint that was unused. All in all they were a pleasure to work with and we would definitely use them again, and would also recommend them to anyone needing painting! Thanks!!

The quality of the paint was good, along with the owners of the company. They were willing to ensure that everything went fine. Unfortunately with the workers, there were some flaws at the end, so they had to come back and fix them. There ended up being 20 flaws that they had to correct.

They came right away and on-time and provided the estimate within 24 hours. The man who came was very nice.

Prior to work, garage looked as if it needed to be torn down, with sagging and rotted boards and peeling paint. After the work, it looks like new. Wonderful job.

They did an excellent job! The very nice, polite, experienced crew arrived timely. They did very good prep work. Now the room looks beautiful. There are nice straight lines where the colored walls meet the white ceiling and trim. They cleaned up everything before they left. We're really pleased with the job. We'll hire them again.

The Potts Brothers did a prompt, professional job that required matching the homeowners-association approved colors. When I noticed a few drips of paint on the deck they came back quickly and removed them. The owners, the crew, and Darlene on email, understood my needs for timeliness and were cheerful and concerned in all their responses. I recommend them to anyone who wants a solidly good painting job at a fair price by experienced painters. And, yes, I found them on Angie's List.

We had used Potts before to do interior and exterior painting on our house so we turned to them again with a real challenge. We were moving and needed to paint the interior of both our new and old houses (both around 3000 sq. ft.) in a very specific and inflexible time frame scheduled around our move. The same team painted both houses. They were able to complete our new house in 2 1/2 days to meet our moving schedule and then complete our old house in 3 1/2 days to support our schedule for getting it to market. When they came out to both houses to assess the job, they provided suggestions on what needed to be painted and what colors to use. They were responsive when issues came up and remedied them quickly. What we always liked about Potts is that they send a good sized crew out to do the jobs. In this case, that was very important to us to meet our schedule. We've always found their prices to be reasonable. Potts' responsiveness and professionalism were exemplary and the team did a great job in difficult circumstances (they probably deserved a vacation when both jobs were done!).

The entire experience with Potts Brothers was great. They came out as scheduled to give us an estimate which turned out to be the lowest price that we got. They sent me a detailed estimate via email as well as regular mail and then did not hound us while we gathered other estimates. We very well may have gone with them even if they weren't the lowest price. The schedule for the work had to change a few times because of weather, but they called each time to keep us in the loop. I live in a townhouse, so my deck is about a foot away from my neighbors' decks on both sides. They applied 2 coats of the deck stain entirely by hand with paint brushes - no spray or rollers - so there was no splatter on my house or my neighbors' decks, fences, etc. They were courteous and proffessional each time they were at my house and every time I talked to them on the phone. Excellent experience from start to finish.

Scheduled estimates (and work appointments) with Potts Brothers for two addresses - a townhouse we were moving out of that needed the deck stripped and resealed, and our new single family home requiring patch and paint for the entire interior. I explained what I was looking to have done when I scheduled the estimates, but within two minutes of Al being on the deck at the townhouse, he told us they didn't do that type of work (the stripping). He was very professional about it, but obviously a waste of time for all parties. He came out to the single family home a few days later to give us the estimate on the interior paint. The estimate was way over our budget, and I called and emailed the main office to find out what the cost would be just to have the ceilings patched and painted. I was told I would get an updated estimate, which I never did, so I cancelled all scheduled work appointments.

Superior work! Very detailed. We are extremely pleased with the work and the process. They always cleaned up , were on time, very courteous, professional and friendly. This is a family business and they you can tell they want to please their customers. They are extremely efficient and professional. They also give a 5% discount for veterans or seniors!! I definitely recommend them. I have absolutely NO Complaints!! :-)

Potts Brothers was one of four providers from whom we solicited proposals based on ratings, comments, Service Awards, warranty, and proximity. They responded quickly to our solicitation and accommodated our wishes by conducting the site visit on a Saturday. All of our interactions were pleasant and professional, and their proposal arrived soon afterwards. In reviewing the proposal, we found that a number of items on the draft Statement of Work we had provided and discussed during the site visit had been omitted. When queried about the omissions, Potts Brothers revised their proposal within two days to include several of the items, with an expected increase in cost. We elected to go with a different provider for two reasons. The more important one to us was that the provider we selected addressed all of the items in our Statement of Work, though not without similar questioning about omitted ones. The second was price: Potts Brothers?, though not exorbitant, was significantly higher than that of the offeror we selected. Nothing has changed in our initial evaluation of Potts Brothers as a top-tier provider. In fact, their responses were significantly faster that the company we selected. We would certainly consider them for future work.

They were very punctual. Matched the existing colors beautifully (so much so that they didn't need to do the bookshelves in the den). Fixed all the cracks, etc. nicely. There was a mixup on the living room and dining room paint (semi gloss instead of flat). Not sure whose fault it was but they redid both rooms the next day and still finished all the work in 2 days! They were very careful moving the furniture (a buffet full of china and crystal) with no mishaps. Covered everything very well. The men were very curteous and friendly. Only one spoke English well of the ones that were here both days but the first day someone came out for a couple of hours and made sure everything was going well and to answer any questions I had. I am a very fussy person so they did well to please me. The price was very reasonable for the work they did. I would highly recommend them to my friends.

They were easy to get hold of, they sent estimators out quickly (the estimators are owners). Workmen arrived as promised and did a good job quickly. The owners monitored the project to assure that everything was done right but the workmen did a professional job.

This team did a phenomenal job, and Mr. Potts was fully engaged, keeping me informed of the process completely, while I was out of town. Their quote was not only fair, but it was lower than the rest of the contractors I contacted about the work. Also, the quote was precisely reflected in the invoice--no hidden costs or surprises. I'll use Potts Brothers whenever I can!

Promised an estimate "the next day" then never delivered. No call, no explanation, nothing. very unprofessional. not my idea of an A rated company

They were good. Their estimate was fair and it sounds like they knew what they were talking about.

We just moved less then a year ago to DC from overseas, so we didn't have any sources for contractors and service companies. We have been using Angie's List to find good companies. For the exterior paint job we contact 3 companies with good references in Angie's List. Potts Brothers was one of them. Price wise, they were very similar to the other 2 companies. But the fact they are a family business and the professionalism they handle the estimate made us decide to hire them. We glad we did, the whole process was a great experience. I am an interior designer that coordinated in the past works like this. They accommodated their crews so my needs was always met. Jesse, one of the brothers, was always on top of the work organizing with me the schedule and finding solutions to problems that would come up. We ordered cedar shutters and wanted to install with functional hardware. Jesse send us a great crew that installed them perfectly so now the house (colonial) has back its historical value. We will be using for sure their services in the future! Highly recommended!

It was wonderful. They were very good and the price was right. They also did a few repairs on our front porch as well.

A Generally Positive Review but Not 100% Perfect The initial quote process was smooth and quick. I accepted it and the work was scheduled. When I submitted the signed contract, I requested that they contact me so that I could provide the down payment info over the phone. They never called, and as a result the work started without fully meeting the terms of the contract! At a minimum this got my attention. Most contractors won't budge until they receive some money up-front. The team showed up on time, the on-site project manager introduced himself and asked if I had any questions before they started. I had none but in retrospect I wish that I'd asked a few. For instance, I made the assumption that they would be sanding all of the to-be-painted surfaces down to smooth, i.e. areas with chipped paint would be smoothed out completely. This turned out not to be the case as they instead sanded the chipped areas to remove only the roughest edges. From a distance the new paint job looks fine but up close it's a 3D relief map of where the previous paint had chipped off. I blame them only for not making it clear to me what to expect. Maybe a shared responsibility there. The work was completed in one day (!) but there was no final walk-thru with the project manager. Had there been, I would have had an opportunity to ask him about the sanding issue. The quality of the work was sufficient but I wouldn't call it the highest quality. The paint edges aren't very crisp and some paint got onto the surrounding bricks in some places. Again, it would have been nice to have seen the project manager at the end of the day to point that out to him. But overall I was satisfied with the work. It was competent if not flashy. There was an odd thing with the invoice as well. The work was performed on a Saturday and the invoice arrived in my in-box the following Monday afternoon. No surprises and things were as expected. The following morning I received a follow-up call from someone at Potts asking about the work. I explained to him everything I've said here. The fellow didn't express any concern that there had been any confusion but he did ask how I'd planned to make payment. What? I'd just received the invoice the day before. I told him that I'd planned to contact Potts within the next week to make payment. He said that "we can just take care of that right now if you like". I was flabbergasted. I'd barely had time to read the invoice and I was being contacted to make payment! I scrambled to locate my account information and gave it to him over the phone. I sent Potts an e-mail complaining about that pressured payment and received an apology from one of the owners. So, overall, I'd recommend them with some reservations: 1) Plan a thorough walk-thru with their project manager before work begins. Go into great detail about what they'll be doing, how they'll be doing it, and more importantly what they'll not be doing. It'll be better for you and for them if you do. 2) If they call less then 24 hours after you receive the invoice, don't answer the phone.

We're in the middle of this project now and it's going really well. There was a one-day delay in getting started, but so far, the work is looking great. There's a lot of hand scraping to do and old lead paint to deal with but they are working quickly and the finished parts look great.

I did not hear from this contractor until 5/29 around 3:30 p.m. By the time this contractor contacted me, I had already heard from 3 other vendors. I got a message on 5/29 as stated around 3:30 p.m. saying they tried to call me, but it was well after 48 hours of initially contacting the company. To me, even if a company is bogged down with work, a response within 24-36 hours shows a desire to really meet with the customer. I have no idea the level of work this company does, but a company that takes more than 2 days to respond, makes me weary of their customer service. I really didn't want to leave any feedback, but just wanted to say why I didn't choose this company even for an estimate.

Mr. Potts was very nice and the estimate was emailed to me and mailed to me. In the quote it had what would be done but did not mention how much would be labor and how much would be the paint/supplies. In my other 4 estimates from other companies, they included a break down of labor and paint/supplies. I asked to have it broken down to see how much of the $5880 was going to be paint and how much labor. I was told they don't do that by Darlene, which I find very weird that they would not do this like the other companies I got quotes for. I am not going to do businesses with a company that can't itemize their costs to me as the consumer for spending almost $6000. I cant speak about them as far as the quality of their work but they were nice when I did the estimate and were nice when talking to me over the phone. I will not be doing business with them for this job or any job if they are not able to break down the costs. I should note that the cost was the highest out of the all the other estimates I received. The other estimates were from companies on Angie's List.

Potts Brothers did a great job for me and I will be calling them for my next painting project. The painters were professional, hard working and kept going until the job was done (and done well). Everyone at Potts Brothers was a pleasure to deal with. I would definitely recommend them.

Made an appointment. Never showed up. Never contacted me.

This is an unprofessional outfit. It established a time to do an estimate and then failed to keep the appointment and failed to notify me that it was not going to keep the appointment.
