Install started on time and went smoothly. It probably took a little longer then anticipated because of the odd shape of the room and walls, but that did not impact on price (which was exactly what they estimated for the job). I would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: mounted projector, screen (difficult mount because of location), ran wiring for 7.1 speaker system (through chanels), large room with odd walls (so 300 feet of speaker wire was used)

Scheduled service for a Monday to have the insulation work done. Two days prior to the that day, talked to the contractor doing ceiling work for me who pointed out the conflict between taking down the old ceiling if the blown-in insulation was already installed. To avoid a reasonable $200 extra fee, was able to reschedule insulation work for the following Monday. Positive Energy guy was accommodating, also helpful with assisting the ceiling contractor with removing the old insulation over the room in question. Took literally all day for the work to be done. Started at about 8:30 am and finished about 9 pm. The Positive Energy guy was professional and competent. Conversational and straightforward. I was satisfied with the work.
Description of Work: blown-in insulation, attic sealing, installed baffles.

I submitted a previous review for the assessment work they did. This review is to cover the work they completed. Again, Patrick, Kevin and crew are awesome to work with. They ran into some problems with our bathroom ceiling, but they went above and beyond to make it right. They didn't charge us extra, even though they had to spend 2 extra days getting everything repaired correctly. I admire their integrity in doing the job right and telling us where the problems were. It would have been very easy for a dishonest contractor to just patch it over and not spend the time. The insulation and sealing work have made a huge difference in the comfort of our home. Our bedrooms have been much warmer and comfortable at night. The only downside is that I notice how much colder our basement seems in comparison (an area I did not have them work on.) The bathroom exhaust fan works so well. We no longer have condensation problems in the bathroom. The fan is so quiet that sometimes I forget that it's on. Again, the only downside is that I notice how incredibly loud all of the other fans are in comparison and find them annoying now. I would definitely hire Positive Energy for future projects in our home -- wondering if they would remodel our kitchen?!?! :) -- and would confidently recommend their services.

Patrick and Kevin are great to work with and I can't say enough good things about them. They are passionate about what they are doing, and they treat your home like it's their mother's. They are really easy going and laid back without being unprofessional. The audit took about two hours. They were very detailed and thorough. They took the time to explain things, but didn't make me feel dumb for asking a lot of questions. I liked that they pointed out all of the things that could be done to improve efficiency in our home, but they were good about emphasizing that in the end everything is an option. Work can be done in stages. Some of the work could even be done by ourselves. There wasn't any high pressure, which I greatly appreciated. The report that they gave to us was delivered in a timely manner and was very thorough and easy to understand. I like that they gave us an action plan with estimated cost and estimated return on investment. It made it easy for us to decide what to pursue first. The only thing I would have liked were photos from the scans they did, but since I was there to see them in person, it was not that big of an issue. We are contracting them to do additional work in the next month: exhaust fan replacement, attic insulation, and some air sealing work. I am looking forward to having them back. A final note, they are very responsive by email, which I truly appreciate as I am not a phone person.

The work went very well. We can tell a definite difference in the comfort of our home. We still need to have exterior wall insulation to make the upstairs more comfortable, and we would expect to use Positive Energy for that work. I would recommend Positive Energy to anyone interested in making their home more comfortable and less drafty.
Description of Work: We bought a home in 2011 and we were interested in getting an energy audit on our heating and ventilation system. I knew from earlier remodeling work that our home did not have much insulation and tended to be cold in the upstairs bedrooms. I found Positive Energy on Angie's List, and contacted their office to schedule. Patrick and Kevin came to our house on a weekend and conducted an energy audit. They submitted a written proposal for all work, and revised that based on our feedback on what we'd want to have done. Patrick and Kevin scheduled work dates with us and completed each of the project activities within 3 days. They provided attic air sealing and insulation, duct sealing and insulation, removal of old attic insulation, sealing of rim joists and pipe insulation. After completion of all work, Patrick and Kevin conducted another test and saw improvements.

Overall, my experience with Positive Energy was excellent! It is very refreshing to find a contractor that is not only professional, but is legitimately passionate about their trade. Both Kevin and Patrick performed work on my house as if it was theirs. Additionally, anytime that I had a concern, or sought out their advice, they willingly took extra time to explain the pros and cons and provided their recommendation and/or options. Their attention to detail, thoroughness, and meticulous clean-up was all a bonus to the outstanding job that they performed. By far, this was the best experience that I have ever had with a home contractor and I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking to make their home more energy efficient and comfortable.
Description of Work: My experience with Positive Energy began with them performing an energy audit of my house. It quickly became evident that my home was in dire need of both supplemental insulation and air sealing. They promptly provided both the results of the energy audit along with a quote to perform the recommended improvements. Their quote was very competitive, and work began withing 2-weeks. All of the original fiberglass insulation was removed from the attic, everything was vacuumed, air sealed with foam, air damns installed, and then 15 inches of cellulose insulation was blown in (R-50). My existing attic storage platform was removed and heightened to allow for the additional insulation. The final improvements included retrofitting a ridge-vent and manufacturing/installing custom insulated caps for both the attic stairs and the whole house fan.

Description of Work: We had a very drafty and cold bedroom we wanted to insulate before moving our little boy into it. We spoke to a few insulation companies, including one who just wanted to blow stuff into the walls. Patrick and Kevin from Positive Energy brought a different perspective. They genuinely wanted to solve the puzzle of why the room was so cold. after running a blower test, they persuaded us to remove drywall and we discovered some shocking things about the construction of the room. They insulated and sealed up the room and attic and fixed the root cause problems. They also spotted some issues with the crawlspace under our house and fixed those too. Throughout the process they were responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic. The price was reasonable. I would highly recommend Positive Energy.

Positive Energy LLC performed a series of energy efficiency jobs around our house. Part of our house was built in 1942, and the addition dates back to 1990. So there was room for improvement. PE came in using a mixture of high technology and innovative techniques which enabled us to prioritize projects and figure out the ones that would give us the highest return on our investment. PE made this process very easy. The team was friendly, courteous and completed work to our satisfaction. Several times they went above and beyond to get the job done. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Positive Energy did an energy audit with a report. We decided to move forward with several energy efficiency projects as recommended - upgrade improve door seals, basement air leaks, deficient insulation, etc.. Overall, PE did an excellent job and we were very pleased. The team has a great attitude and is very professional. I found it refreshing to see in that industry.

Positive Energy has a great team of perfectionists who are focused on delivering quality services for a fair price. They performed work at my home during five separate visits and never once attempted to upsell or push any agenda other than delivering on my desired results in the most efficient manner. They strictly adhered to every written estimate and then over delivered. For example: - they quoted a price for reducing my air leakage by 2,400 CFM based upon 2 days work and when their initial efforts over those 2 days resulted in a little less than the target reduction they proactively offered to spend another day working toward the goal at no additional charge. - they hand-crafted a custom insulation box to cover my pull-down attic ladder despite no mention of that in our contract - they removed an unexpectedly large amount of debris from my attic (including half of a player piano and a queen-sized bed frame that we'd never seen before) and despite being under no obligation to do so also assisted in the hauling and disposal of that debris. In short - a great team to help assess & address your home's energy efficiency and heating/cooling challenges.
Description of Work: Performed initial energy assessment with thermal imaging and blower test. Delivered a report from that assessment that included recommended actions, estimated costs, and return on investment analysis. Based upon that report we chose to move forward with two recommendations: Sealed home air leakage by addressing leaks in: - the attic - along rim joists in unfinished basement - various spots in an unheated garage Also removed a substantial amount of debris and uselessly worn/old insulation from the attic and replaced it with new cellulose insulation.

I used an Angie's List $99 coupon on this project and I thought they were great. My husband has high standards and he was totally impressed with them. They have a lot of nice equipment and explain well what they are doing. They were able to pinpoint things; some that they can do which are more expensive as well as some we can do ourselves that are less expensive. This is part of the reason why I went with them and I was really impressed with them. They spent three hours here and I think it was money well spent. I thought they were great.

We are currently working with Positive Energy, LLC on the complete insulation of my 30 year old house. They're currently doing the investigation as to what to do. Patrick and his brother are very thorough in the preparation. We are impressed with the written work and the analysis. So far everything they have done is an A. We have e-mailed back and forth: we give questions, they give answers. The point is not to have to use them again because the house is fully insulated once they're done! They are using a variety of techniques including blow in and sheets depending on what is best for that part of the house. We measured for drafts and he went up in my attic and took pictures. The vents in my bathroom weren't properly connected so they're going to look at that too.

The service was excellent overall! They were very thorough with assessing what they thought needed to be done. They prioritized the entire job, which was quite lengthy, into more manageable sections. Their work was excellent, and they were always on time, explained everything, and cleaned up perfectly after the work was done. I would highly recommend them and I’ll definitely call them back again!
Description of Work: The first thing they did was a whole house energy audit: they inspected the home to identify problem areas where there were air leaks (we have a really old home). They sealed the air spaces in the attic first. We have a pull-down ladder up to the attic with a plywood cover, so a lot of heat was lost. They installed an insulated box that is easily removable. They also insulated around the part of the basement where the house meets the foundation along with the basement windows, too. Some squirrel had eaten up a lot of the insulation that was underneath the floor of the home in the crawl space; they replaced the insulation and resealed that area.

Patrick showed up on time as promised. He went beyond expectations with the attic sealing. I expected him to seal the areas where the lights project through the ceiling. Instead, he moved back my 1940s insulation from areas all around the attic wherever there was an under-ceiling wall space, fan, light or other hole. Quite the amount of work, done well, in a very hot and unpleasant environment. The platform was rock solid and blown in insulation looks good. He spent more time than we anticipated conducting the work, but still finished the job by running another blower door test to measure the effect of the work. There was an immediate improvement in the comfort of the upstairs level, which prior to the work, was much hotter than the lower floors.
Description of Work: They started with a comprehensive energy audit, including thermal imaging during a blower door test to assess air leakage into the house. They provided a series of recommendations based on their findings. I contracted with them to conduct attic sealing, add additional 6 inches of attic insulation, build a raised platform for storage, and seal the drop-down stairs with a removable foam "dome".

To begin, the audit was very thorough and complete with detailed explanations of how to improve the home. Many of these items were DIY level projects that Patrick indicated he would be happy to help as I proceeded. The storage room insulation came out great!! I am very happy with his timely, professional and detailed work. Will certainly use him more as we proceed with more upgrades.
Description of Work: I purchased a home energy audit, which included air seal test and pictures from all over the house. Following the audit, I then began the process of the suggested upgrades. First was removal and replacement of insulation in a large basement storage room with pink fiberglass, foil-faced rigid foam insulation and spray foam around the edges for a complete seal at R-25. Room is appx. 19x14.

Positive Energy LLC was recommended to us by friends who had engaged the company to improve the energy efficiency of their home. They were pleased with the results and suggested that we consider making the same improvements in our home. We contacted Mr. Patrick Michaelyan and he came to our home and conducted a comprehensive assessment. He provided us with a very detailed set of recommendations in writing and then discussed each of his recommendations with rationale and expected results from the improvements. Once the work commenced, we were pleasantly surprised with the promptness, neatness, and general efficiency in the way the work was implemented. In summary, there was not a single issue with the way the project(s) were carried out and we have been extremely pleased with the results -- everything that was promised. I will engage Positive Energy for future projects and recommend the company, without reservation, to anyone needing home improvements in the competency areas of the company.
Description of Work: We have had several home improvement projects done by Positive Energy, LLC (May, June, July 2012) and have been exceptionally pleased with the quality of the work and the professional manner in which the work was accomplished. One of the projects was the sealing and reinforcing the insulation in our attic space. This was a major endeavor and when completed improved dramatically the air conditioning and heating efficiency to maintain the house at consistently comfortable temperatures at reduced energy cost. After an extensive survey, the Positive Energy Operations Manager, Mr. Patrick Michaelyn, identified other spaces that needed additional sealing and insulation to optimize comfort and energy efficiency. These spaces were under an elevated music room. Mr. Michaelyn also identified worn and damaged door seals on external doors and replaced same. In addition to the work to improve sealing and insulation, Positive Energy conducted a assessment of our home security system. We have very high ceilings, to include vaulted ceilings in several rooms. This makes battery replacement in the various detection devices both inconvenient and a bit hazardous. Mr. Michaelyan suggested replacing all of the batteries with rechargeable long life batteries which we accepted. We did not have carbon monoxide detectors and since we have some gas appliances and fireplaces, these should have been put in place when the other alarm devices were installed. Positive Energy -- Mr. Michaelyan --installed two of these detection devices during his security system work.

Since working with Patrick, we upgraded all the existing incandescent and halogen lighting in the 1st story of our home, and two exterior lights were upgraded to high-efficiency LED lighting. We plan to work with Patrick again in the coming year to insulate and seal up the exterior foundation walls of the crawlspace with closed-cell spray foam insulation, and insulate and seal up the rim joists of the entire 1st floor. In addition, he'll seal some other areas around the house where he found some general air leakage. All these measures, in conjunction with the spray foam we installed in the attic that we had done previously and the new high-efficiency gas furnace we plan to install, will help us realize our goal of maximizing and raising the energy efficiency of our home. Patrick worked with us on all the solutions that were possible. He did some diagnostic testing and gave us solutions without any high pressure tactics. He also gave us great advice on how we could plan for energy upgrades incrementally rather than in one expensive fell swoop. We highly reccomend him and his company. As for pricing, we don't have others to compare to as this is the first experience we have with upgrading our home's energy efficiency. We believe we'll recoup our expenses given the length of time we plan to be in our home.
Description of Work: We worked with Patrick B. Michaelyan, Operations Manager of Positive Energy LLC. He is outstanding to work with and very knowledgeable about energy solutions for your home. Patrick is a Licensed Home Improvement Contractor. He has an M.A. In Energy and Environmental Analysis from Boston University.

It was great. They are extremely personable, knowledgable, very respectful of my property, and I highly recommend them. They were terrific. The operation is run by two brothers and they are really good. They look at everything in the home, even the light bulbs to determine energy efficiency.
Description of Work: They came and did an energy audit of our home. When they finished the audit, and they checked everything from the attic, ceiling, to windows, to floors and to the basement, they had a printed summary with recommendations on how to improve energy efficiency. We had extra insulation put in and a lot of different modifications made, which ended up costing $3000. The audit itself was only $250.
