Lyman and son provided excellent service for our kitchen remodel. This involved relocating a plumbing for a kitchen sink, removing two waste vent (one of which was in the middle of the kitchen) and installing all new plumbing. I also had him cap our gas line for our old gas stove. Lyman used copper in all cases except where PVC was better. He provided expert recommendations on various options we had. For instance, I didn't think the waste vent could easily be removed and was prepare to encase it in a column. The work had to occur over several months because we were doing the remodel ourselves. Lyman came in and provided the rough in and then later came back and installed the dishwasher, sink, and hooked up the plumbing. We also had him back to fix a separate plumbing issue in our bathroom. In all cases, he was timely and responsive. He wasn't cheap, but the work was quality.
Description of Work: Full kicthen remodel. Gas capped, sink relocated, waste pipe relocated and one repaired.

Lyman gave a very detailed explanation of what was wrong and why it was so difficult to fix (because it was 3 hole bathroom sink faucet set-up). He stopped the leak but didn't re-install the faucet handle properly - it's loose and doesn't sit properly in the hole. I've contacted him twice about fixing it, but no response. He talks a lot and charges you for it. I paid $286 for a job that took him about 40 minutes + another hour of talking (full disclosure: I participated in the conversation to be friendly).

They were really good. They are a little expensive but when you have something complicated, that's okay. He is an instructor and a master plumber so I thought that it was worth it. He does it once and it's fixed.

We worked with Billy through email and phone to find a heater for our condo--required a 50 gallon low-boy which is a bit harder to find. He was very helpful. The guys did a good job with installation. After installation there was a weird noise coming from the pipes when the water was on the hot setting. However, on contact with the company, they explained that the mixing valve needed to be replaced. Someone from the company returned the following week to install a new mixing valve and we have had no further problems. They diagnosed the problem correctly and fixed it within a reasonable amount of time. In addition, the mixing valve on the original water heater was old and we knew there would be a chance we would have to replace it. Billy had let us know that up front--they were trying to help us out by keeping the original mixing valve with the new water heater installation. Alas...
Description of Work: Installed a new hot water heater and mixing valve.

I contacted Master's Service based on the recommendation of a neighbor. He was very personable and quick in his assessment of what was happening. We thought the disposal was broken because of leaking under our sink but the seal just needed to be repaired. We appreciated the owner's honesty.

This was truly the most frustrating experience I have ever had with any repair person ever! This is a rental property in Arlington, VA. and I am the landlord. Lyman called me when the new faucet arrived. He entered and immediately told me it would and quot;be a whileand quot; since the shower was so small and hard to work in. I had to leave for a couple of hours, and came back and to find him 'indisposed'. (Actually, he was behind closed doors in the bathroom and told me and quot;I'm using the little boys' roomand quot;. I waited as long as I could and then had to go back to work again.By that time, one of my tenants was home so I was not leaving him totally alone. She was flabbergasted at the length of time he stayed 'tinkering'...and also that he created a large hole in the drywall between my tenants bedroom and the bathroom. She was even more shocked to see the charge: $1,169!!!! Up to this point, it was already a disaster....but there was more to come. My tenants called me a week later to say that water continued to leak from the shower so I called Lyman back to look at it and hopefully fix it. At that time, I told him calmly that I was appalled by the price he charged as well as the unsightly hole he left wide open in the bedroom. He said the shower stall was a small and difficult space to work in, and that's why it took so long and cost so much. He also had no intention of patching up the drywall. Lyman fumbled around as I sat (wasting even more of my time) to no avail- He couldn't get his wrenches to work with the NEW faucet he himself had installed. An hour later, he left and was going to and quot;call the manufacturerand quot; for advice. He emailed me later that day to tell me he needed METRIC tools !! Once again, he came to and quot;adjustand quot; the faucet and said the problem was FIXED. My tenants waited a while to tell me it had not been fixed because they knew how upset I was, but when I went to the house about something different, they told me that the shower was still leaking and maybe a little worse than before. I wrote to Lyman, giving him the opportunity to come over one more time and fix his mess. If he did not, I told him I would have had no choice but to report him to BBB, and write honest reviews like this exposing the way he does and stands by his work. No response from him. I tried once more with the caveat that if I did not hear from him immediately, I would need to take legal action (which I have NEVER had to do with anyone! Still no response. And now for the clincher: I finally had a trusted contractor go over to repair the water damage caused by the leak, and he discovered the source of the leak was that the door of the shower was installed improperly! A couple of thousand dollars later, the leak has finally been taken care of. No faucet, new or Delta, needed to have a place in this story. Consumers be warned.
Description of Work: The original problem for which I contacted Lyman Stutzman was a LEAK coming from the shower. Lyman hemmed and hawed about the type of faucet (Delta) that was in the shower to be repaired, and that also happened to be BRAND NEW, as was the bathroom. He said that Delta was notorious for being difficult to repair. I agreed to have it replaced with his preferred brand, fearing that no plumber would ever be happy to work with it if it was THAT bad...He told me it would only cost me a "couple of hundred bucks". I thought that was worth the cost to have it be easy to work on.

He has been the only plumber I have used in here in the last 15 years or more. He had pretty good attention to detail, he was very prompt, he had the tools necessary to get the job done. His truck seemed t have every little piece and part one could ever imagine in it. He lives in the neighborhood so he doesn't charge a trip charge which is nice. He has been recommended on a local list. When people are asking for plumbers, his name always comes up and I have personally recommended him to other people who in fact have used him. I think the price is very good because I think they trip charge especially for small things, and that doubles the cost for the visit for most of them. He has done very well with regards to the quality of his work. His responsiveness was very good. He doesn't have to deal with traffic so that makes it easy. His professionalism is good. I will definitely use him again. As a matter of fact, I will be using him on this project that we are doing in the house, but my home warranty company has their own plumber that they use.
Description of Work: Master's Service Plumbing changed the water main line going from the street into the house and he put in a new shower head and shower lines a couple of years ago. It was around $5,000 to do all that because he had to do a lot of digging.

Lyman is amazing. He will give you options and let you decide what you can and can't do at the time. He's professional, punctual and completely trustworthy. As a Realtor I like to have an arsenal of trusted contractors to refer my clients to, but in the plumbing department, Lyman is it! I have gotten many compliments and much gratitude for and quot;sharingand quot; Lyman with others. I can't recommend him enough!
Description of Work: Mr. Stutzman has worked for me on multiple occasions. In my home he has taken care of all of my clogged pipes. In my 60 year old home, Lyman has come to our rescue many times. When I was the building manager for a private school in an old church building, Lyman basically rebuilt all the bathrooms so that we were not constantly calling plumbers each week.

Customer gives “A in Quality” to Master’s Service Plumbing... Master’s Service Plumbing works hard to achieve customer satisfaction and regrets that this customer did not share any concerns. Total customer receipts of approximately $10,000 to upgrade four bathrooms and clean house drains, $3200 of total was in materials. Customer opted to work with Master’s Service on a time and materials basis and act as their own general contractor/DIY to save money. In doing so, this customer was in the mix of the daily schedule. Master’s Service worked with both the customer and the other trades represented in the job to provide responsiveness to project issues, find lowest available prices, guide clients to quality materials and complete the job in a timely manner.

Mr. Stutzman is an extremely professional and very courteous plumber. There was a part required, so he was unable to solve the problem on his first visit, and he (amazingly) did not charge me for his time. He did an excellent job when he did come back to make the repair, and even fixed a few things he noticed on his own. He was easy to get ahold of and able to come out promptly. I highly recommend Master's Service Plumbing and will refer my friends to them as well.
Description of Work: Miscellaneous plumbing repairs.
We had suffered from periodic basement flooding because the outside stairwell floor drain was no longer carrying water off the premises, and with significant rain events, we would have to deal with a real mess. Lyman Stutzman diagnosed our basement drainage problems, installed a sump pump system, connecting to a stairwell drain at the basement door. He also prepared the basement cement floor and laid porcelain tile. His work was done very professionally. He and his team were punctual, always kept the premises clean and neat, cleaning up after themselves continually. His crew dug a long trench through the front yard for an underground outflow pipe, and cut the opening so neatly, that there is no sign of disturbance to the grass or soil. The tile flooring has received numerous compliments for its consistency, solid alignment, and grouting care. It is laid with just enough slope to direct any water to the sump pump. But, best of all, in the recent rains, there has been no further concern for a flooded basement --- the sump pump is so quiet, we scarcely heard it run. And the whole space has a welcoming, finished look that enhances the usefulness of the basement. Give Lyman a call and he will treat you fairly, while delivering a professional service which will make you glad you chose him.
Description of Work: Diagnosed basement flooding problem. Installed sump pump, floor drain, outflow piping to end of yard. Prepared basement cement floor for tile. Installed porcelain tile.

I winterized my outdoor faucet by turning off the inside water valve and opening the outside faucet. I noticed a very slow drip from outside faucet, but decided to watch it. When the temperatures dropped below freezing, ice formed on the outside faucet. I called Master's Service and the owner, Lyman Stutzman, answered the phone and came out that afternoon. I asked if I could watch just to see if I could learn something. He readily agreed stating that he used to teach plumbing, so he didn't mind someone watching. Mr Stuzman was very professional and a really nice guy. As he worked he explained what he was doing, and why he was doing it. He showed me that he was using much better grade parts than previously installed. Only the inside valve was faulty, but he suggested I upgrade the outside faucet since it was a pretty cheap one. The twenty "extra" dollars was well spent. Mr Stuzman also gave me a couple tips about small repairs I could easily make myself including looking out for metal pipes touching metal pipe hangers. The metal on metal corrodes the pipes. He also showed me how to properly winterize pipes - including opening the bleeder valves. He also looked at my water heater which is near its end of life estimate. Explained what type of heater he would replace it with. No pressure to do the work now, just letting me know.

Mr Stutzman contacted a very thorough evaluation of my system and gave me some much needed referrals for other work I may need done.
Description of Work: Mr Stutzman came in response to a regular clicking noise I heard in the water pipes when the water was turned on. He checked the system, replaced the guts of both of my toilets with brass fittings and told me that it was most likely the water meter - which after consultation with the county and some surprisingly prompt service from the water authority solved the problem. He also gave me some recommendations for future things that need to be done with the sump pump and the water heater but did not push changes on me. He also gave me some badly needed referrals which a single mom really appreciated. On top of all this, a neighbor walked by and they chatted like old friends which gave me additional comfort. I would use him again.

I called Lyman 2 days before the countertops were to be installed to ask him if he could be available just after the countertops and sink were ready for hookup. He recommended what kind of faucet would be best to buy and that would last many years in our newly remodelled kitchen. He came earlier than the counter guys and worked on a small list of repairs we had while he waited for the countertops to be ready. Once he got the green light to work in the kitchen, he went right to work and tested that everything was working well before he left. Everything works and the kitchen looks great.

Lyman called me prior to our appt. to let me know he was finishing earlier with another customer and if he could come a few minutes earlier. He came a few minutes before our appt. time and I showed him to the bathroom where the hot water was not working. I also took him to our other bathroom to ask him about possible low-pressure problems in this old house. Lyman knew the names and years of all the faucets in each of our bathrooms. He also gave me some advise on future purchases of bathroom faucets. I had bought a new standard-level faucet to replace, but he said that the brand that they sell at hardware stores are only worth the box they come in. Anyway, Lyman loves to talk, but he really knows his stuff. He could have taken advantage and charged me for work we did not need, but instead suggested fixing a very good quality faucet that originally came with the house.
