Majestic Moving and Storage

I would very strongly not recommend Majestic Moving. From start to finish, this moving company was very unprofessional?both in their competence and demeanor. They were extremely difficult to work with, damaged dozens of items, took items that were ours, and left behind items that belonged to someone else. They lost hardware to furniture they disassembled and did not reassemble furniture they should have. The customer service was also remarkably poor?unapologetic and outrageously slow to respond to our claims. If they hadn?t come through in the end (over two months after our move) to reimburse us (at a rate of 60 cents/lb) for the damaged items, I would have given them an ?F? rating.

I picked out three moving companies based upon reviews from Angie's List -- I received estimates and Majestic came out as the most expensive (slightly). I decided it was worth it, though, because I liked the fact that they would deliver boxes to us, and that they would take them away afterwards for reuse. Also, their quote was a "no more than" quote -- I was told that if it took less time, my actual cost would be less, but that if it took more this quote would be the amount to pay. I liked that. We scheduled a time for them to come deliver boxes. The day before, they called and said they couldn't do it then. Not a problem. The next day, however, I was home waiting for them to deliver the boxes, and they never came. I called, and they told me that the truck was out and they'd get them to me. They didn't. I called again, and they said they'd have to come by the next day. I told them that was fine, but I had to go to work, so it needed to be in the morning. I waited, and waited, and just before I took off for work I called and they told me that the delivery guy was out and should be there. I told them just to leave the boxes in the back yard, and then ran into the guy delivering the boxes as I went to the car. I found this all annoying, but it didn't really bother me too much. Now, of course, we get to the day of the move. They were supposed to arrive at 9 AM. They called at 9 to say that they were running late due to traffic. I wasn't real thrilled at them being late, but I was very happy that they called. They arrived, and got to work. They loaded the truck fairly quickly (I tried to help, but they wouldn't let me -- so it goes). This phase all went very very well. Unloading at the new house went comparably smoothly. So, really, I have no complaints about the move itself -- that was good. But, then came the part that annoyed me. The original quote had assumed 6 hours + 1 hour of travel time. The actual move only took 4.5 hours, but they still charged the original amount. I asked about and tried to get some clarification, but then decided that I was just happy that the move was complete and that I wasn't going to argue (I should say that the original quote said 3 guys, and 4 came, so the total number of man-hours is the same, but I would have really liked they to say that rather than just pointing at the original quote and saying "that's how much it is"). Finally, came time for them to pick up the boxes. I called and they told me that someone would be by the next day between 1 and 2 PM to pick them up. 4 PM rolled around, still no sign. I called them up and asked and was told "they should be coming. We'll call them and get back to you. An hour later, I still hadn't heard back. They finally showed up just after 5 PM, but no one ever called me back. All in all, I liked them, but I found the lack of communication really irritating.

They were great. I negotiated with them over the price, and they were flexible. The total price came in $50 more than I bargained for, which I thought was a little ridiculous since I had bargained for a certain price, but the $50 was worth it. They came in on time, wrapped everything up expertly, dealt with the freight elevators no problem. They set up everything in my apt quickly. Just really fast, really professional.

Jimmy, Rolando, and Doug went above and beyond, showing up on time, working for 5 solid hours, breaking down and reassembling furniture, even helping carry stuff to the dumpster. They were great in every way. It's hard to pick movers from so many choices so I turned to Angies List and the reccommendation was spot on, just this referral alone was worth the membership fee. We will definitely use them again.

It went fantastic. They were on time and extremely courteous. We had some delicate pieces and they all made it through. When we thought that one piece was missing, they searched for it in all of the boxes we used to try to locate it. However, we found that we misplaced it and later located it. Our building wasn't quite ready when we arrived and they were able to stay over night and unpack us the next day.

On time for packing. Quick but thorough packing and loading. At destination I waited some extra time from the original schedule but I checked on progress and new time estimate. They moved my things in, some down to the basement, some to the 2nd floor, working fast but carefully. I was charged the original estimate fee. It went quickly, since there were 3 men working. I don't know if that was the cheapest I could have got my move done, but it was worth it to be confident that it would be done well, since they had a top rating from Angies List.

They arrived right on time, from the get go they were challenged, my apartment building was in the old section so access to the freight elevator was not available, movers came thru front door, up stairs to elevator. It didn't get better at the other end, the truck was too large to enter garage to freight elevator, had to walk thru garage and up elevator, 9th floor and long hallway. The day was very very hot, the worked longer than expected but the job said not to exceed a certain price and that was the price I paid.

The workers came on time. They were polite. They asked how I'd like the work to be done. They went on with their day quietly. They took good care of the furniture. My complaint has to do with them having forgotten to pack certain items in certain rooms until I told them. They thought they had totally wrapped up those rooms when those items were in plain view. In other words, I had to be on my toes.

We had Majestic move us from our condo in DC to a new home in Maryland. They were outstanding. With three bids, Majestic gave us the best price. Moreover, they were very responsive and understanding to the moving restrictions in our condo building. Because of timing issues, they stored our furniture for 5 days at a very low price. They were very prompt and hardworking. Plus, the only damage we experienced was to the one box that I was responsible for. All in all, a great experience - made moving very easy.

They were fantastic! Their slogan is "dignity in moving," and they live up to it. Moving is stressful, but these guys made it easy. When the service elevator in the apartment building wasn't working at first, they came up with a back-up plan. No complaints at all. I didn't have all of my clothes boxed up because I ran out of boxes. They let me borrow some, and they were very motivating. They tried to help me as much as they could. They really are the best in the area. I would definitely hire them again.

They went out of their way. They were there fifteen minutes early. They didn't just barge in. They were very polite and they called me to let me know they were early. They said they were happy to start early. They worked pretty hard and they worked quickly. The experience was pretty painless. They held to the estimate. I thought that I had left stuff there. They came over and helped me look for it. I didn't have a single hassle and that is what you want with a mover.

Very well. They arrived about a half hour late, but did a very thorough job in taking everything from the apartment and not leaving a thing. They drove over to the new apartment, unpacked, and even got our couch into the living room despite a *really* tight fit.

It went very well. The estimate was quick and in person. The original estimate was about 650, but the actual cost went a bit over. This was due to the fact that a couch didn't fit into the basement. They were able to deconstruct it, move it, and reassemble in the basement; which was an added bonus, but an added cost. It was raining on the day of our move, and they were prepared for it. Nothing was damaged, and they prepared everything well. Ovando and his wife are very nice and very easy to deal with over the phone and in person. Before our move they brought us boxes and they picked up our emptied boxes afterwards.

They were superb. They were extremely careful with everything. I have unpacked most of what they moved and have found no damage. They were extremely courteous too. My wife wanted some furniture relocated and they did that for her also. They wrapped all the furniture pieces so there would not be a scratch on them. The way they tied things, nothing broke. I was also flabbergasted with the low price.

everything went as planned, I had done much pre planning on where everything should be placed and in what order to load the truck. they did a super job and finished 2 hours earlier than I thought

They are very professional and curteous. They were responsive to my needs and showed up when they said they would.

My husband and I contacted the company a month ahead of schedule. We were able to meet with the owner who provided us with a reasonable estimate to pack our items and store in a POD. The movers were on time and provided excellent care and service. The packed our 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bathroom condo in less than 4 hours. We will be using them to unpack us in a few weeks. I highly recommend this company.

Owner came out to provide an estimate and guaranteed the charges would not go over the estimate. Movers arrived on time and worked efficiently to complete the move on time. We did our own packing, except for the furniture, TV, and some large children's toys. They wrapped and handled our belongings with very good care, and they asked questions when they weren't sure where something went. They also set up and reassembled the furniture and helped us rearrange other furniture and boxes that were already at the new house, so we could set things up properly. They were very flexible and willing to help us get settled as best they could. Overall, I was impressed with how professional and friendly the team was, and they really worked well as a team. They surveyed both locations and planned how they would approach the loading and unloading before they started each process. They started out with 4 movers, but were down to a team of 3 in the afternoon when one person wasn't feeling well. They still finished on time. The only snafu we encountered was with delivering the boxes and moving supplies before the move. They didn't arrive the morning we expected them, so I called their office. There was a miscommunication with their team, and they got put on the wrong truck (so we had to wait until the afternoon). This was very minor. The owners and employees were very friendly and professional, so it didn't bother us because they were flexible with our needs too.

I know that I wanted quite a while to provide this feedback, but better late than never, right? I'll compensate with great detail about the services provided! I called three companies to inquire about a moving estimate - all three companies were from Angie's List. The complicating factors were: (1) I called only a week ahead of the move, (2) my apartment building requires you to reserve a loading dock so the only date I could reserve it for was November 28 (i.e. a holiday weekend so everyone was booked already), and (3) I was to pay for the loading dock reservation an hourly rate so the move needed to be as smooth and fast as possible. Of the three company I called, Ovando was the first to come out to give a free and BINDING (i.e. no more but possible less) estimate of $675. The others estimated over the phone based on apartment size and furniture inside. Ovando was the only one who did not ask to charge me extra for the holiday weekend and ultimately offered the lowest price. In fact, he was a bit (15 min) late for the estimate appointment through no fault of his own (my apartment building is technically on Glebe Rd. but in fact on Vermont, so it is very hard to find if you don't have specific directions). To apologize he gave me a further discount on the move! Other than that, his crew was there on November 28 at 8:15 am sharp and these guys were efficient! They even helped me pack some of the stuff that I had not packed yet. We were out of my apartment building in no time and into the row house just as quickly with no damage to any of my stuff. This after they had to take the front door of the house off the hinges to get my couch in! And did I mention that it took them less time than estimated, so the final price of the move was $600. In sum, they made the moving experience as pleasant as I have ever had it!

They showed up on time, did a competent job, and charged what they said they would. Nothing was broken in either move. I would have appreciated a reminder call before any of the moves.

From start to finish this company is a class operation. I called Majestic to let them know that we were ready to have our "stuff" come out of storage. I spoke with the most pleasant person who called back several times with answers to my questions as well as details about the move. Every time I spoke with her she was professional, pleasant and competent. She gave me an accurate estimate of the cost of the move and predicted the movers' estimated time of arrival well, so that we could plan our day appropriately. When the movers arrived they all came to the front door and introduced themselves. With big smiles and a positive attitude, they proceeded to tour the house so they could understand where the furniture and boxes would go. They put runners (mats) down on the floor to protect it. Then they began unloading two large trucks. To a person, they had smiles and offered pleasant conversation. When they saw me trying to move some things out of the way, they immediately offered to help. At one point I accidentally told them to put a large stack of full bins in the wrong place, they moved them to the correct location with only the most pleasant "can do" attitude. They finished the move and asked if they could help with anything else. We hired this company to move us out of our house in Northern Virginia and they moved us into an apartment in Richmond. We had a great experience then and a great experience when they brought our things out of storage. I have seven children and my hands full, these movers helped tremendously. I would happily hire them again in a heartbeat.

Great. Showed up on time; friendly and cleanly dressed; wrapped all furniture in pads; put down runners to protect the carpet; loaded the truck quickly. Upon arrival at the apartment, they unloaded the truck, placed the furniture, removed all the packing. I would hire them again!

I made an appointment with the owner (Ovando) to come over to the apartment and view the items to be moved for the estimate. We were packing and moving most of the boxes ourselves so the quote was for the furniture, electronics (jncl 2 TVS), area carpets, several large plants, mirrors and lamps. Ovando was punctual and professional and gave me an on-the-spot quote with a do not exceed price. What was great about this company is that they did not charge a travel fee like some other moving companies. Ovando estimated 4 hours of work for 3 men. The day before the move someone from the company called to confirm (which was greatly appreciated!). However, the day of the move we received a phone call about 15 mins past the moving start time, saying that they were running late. The movers showed up an hour late and one man short. Jimmy and Desmond were great however; they worked diligently, and professionally, and were wonderful about making sure that every item was placed in the house exactly where we wanted it. They even waited while I vacuumed the carpets before rolling them up to move! All-in-all the move went well -- nothing was damaged, and everything was unwrapped and placed exactly where we asked. My only complaint is the delay in start time, and because they were one man short, the move took 6 hours instead of 4. While the price did not go over the "do not exceed" amount, it meant that it took longer that first day to settle into the house than we had hoped. Having said all that, I would probably go with this company again because of the price and how careful and considerate Jimmy and Desmond were with our belongings. I think they went above and beyond what we expected of them!!

Owner came to our home and gave estimate for a Sunday pack truck, store overnight (at their facility) and unpack after our closing on our new home the following afternoon (3pm). The estimate was higher than other companies, but they were so flexible with their timing (Sunday, overnight storage and late afternoon delivery) that we chose to go with them. They were prompt and very thorough. We were pleased with all service and impressed with their care of our furnishings. There were only a few broken dishes in the whole move, however we did the packing so we take full responsibility for those. There was one small hole in the wall at the bottom of the stairs (size of a half dollar) that they damaged while moving the furniture which became a financial issue for us at closing as the walk through was immediately after they moved the furniture out. This was a narrow staircase and we were not available for them to disclose it to us when they completed the move, so we give them the benefit of the doubt that they would have acknowledged it to us if we were present. They were prompt at the new home the following day and did a wonderful job of unloading and putting the boxes and furniture in the appropriate places. The cost ended up being $400 less than originally quoted.

Ovando was very pleasant on the phone and said he come the next afternoon to provide us with an estimate. He never arrived. He never called to let us know he would not be arriving, either. I provided him with 2 phone numbers and stayed at home all day so I would be available for his arrival. A professional would have had the decency to at least call and let a potential customer know they would be late or not show up at all. We will not be using Majestic for our move.
