J Reynolds Landscaping

The appointment was scheduled within a reasonable period of time and two men came out to evaluate the problem. They were very professional and quickly determined a solution. I received the estimate via email within a day or two. A French drain was proposed for the the front yard and grading for the back yard. I've had other priorities so have not tackled this project, but felt confident that they would do a good job.

The company came out and assessed the job. The job ended up bigger than we had expected, and we decided to hold off on the job to get more organized in advance. He was very professional, timely and straight forward. He explained the process that would need to be taken and it was easy to understand the information.

They came out right away promptly and said they would come up with a design for my landscaping. He explained how the drainage system would work and where it would be and we discussed future potential plans for landscaping the back yard. I then decided to wait to get that work done, so I canceled the deal.

It took Jason and four men about four hours the first day when they dug the trenches, and about the same the second day, finishing the rest. The work was done quickly and efficiently. The cleanup was outstanding, and he even made some small additions to the contract with no additional charge. ...He did the job for $1,700, which I thought was fantastic especially when I compared it to work was previously done by another contractor, which failed.... Five days later we had an all day rainstorm, and I was extremely pleased to find the floor of my screened- in porch dry when I came home in the evening. ... I can?t recommend J. Reynolds too highly. Jason is extremely busy because he does such good work and because he only takes on as many jobs as he can supervise himself. So the one downside is that he is sometimes hard to get in touch with and he schedules work far in advance. I signed the contract in May for work scheduled in August. However, he was at my home a day before the agreed on date and completed the work as promised. ... I couldn't be happier.

Jason's team did an excellent job. Went above and beyond in about every category. Jason had very good insights on how to clean things up and present everything. Great guy and great group of gentlemen. Couldn't be happier.

First and foremost we are very happy with the end product. The French drain works great and we can't believe the difference it makes. Issues were on timeliness and responsiveness. We were trying to install during the winter and snow was a factor. We understood this, but communication was not forthcoming and I constantly needed to ask for updates. However, once started the team was quick and professional, and we are happy with the end result.

Work was excellent - lots of compliments from the neighbors. Jason was flexible with the plan so that it could be implemented in stages.

The guy was pleasant to deal with. He was punctual and polite. He just gave me a quick sketch and I thought I would get more out of the plans. He also provided a quote to get the work done.

The work they performed was great. The area around my pool is now much more open and appealing to the eye. They removed several large bushes and installed 2 24' long pavers stairs that look fantastic. They also installed a split rail fence that extends and an existing fence around the pool. They even installed a custom built gate for the fence that makes it look it is a continuation of the fence as opposed to cheap pre-fab fence. Overall, they did a great job. They came when they said they would and completed the job as promised. The quoted price was the price for the job all-in. Jason provided superior work for a great price.

He's not responsive to emails. We said that we would like to work with him. He drew it up. It was very weird and it wasn't professional. He gave us an estimate and that was professionally done. We said that we wanted to work with him. He never contacted us back. We phoned him and we emailed him. We sent him pictures of what we wanted but we never heard back from him. He did what he was supposed to do for the $99. He never followed-up with us. We tried to hire him to do further. He didn't get back to us. I would never use them.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. Overall it was okay. He didn't start when I was expecting. Once they came they finished it in the time they said. They did a good job. It took several weeks to schedule it. They had a lot of work because of the late spring. They were less expensive than other guys so it was okay but it was more than they quoted me in the beginning. Once they told me they were coming, they were here every morning on the dot. The crew was great. I would probably use them again.

The regrading in the backyard went fine, however the new intake drain does not do what it's supposed to do. Water flows right over the drain during heavy rainfalls. Jason said he'd take care of it, but it has not been redone as yet. Also, there was another larger project that was slated to be done, but it never got done either. After asking about it a couple times, we decided to tackle it ourselves. All in all, Jason's very nice, but I think our projects were too small for him.

I purchased the consultation in March, Jason came out in early April to look at the property and we agreed to have him do the work. We live in a townhouse with very little front yard that has a big oak tree causing so much shade that all we grow is dirt. At the same time, all the azalea plants we had planted were destroyed last year with a bug infestation. Jason presented a plan, we liked it and agreed to it. He said we were on his calendar for July 14. I contacted him about doing it a little earlier because of some personal situations. Jason immediately said he would help me out and fit me in. He did just that, on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend his crew came out and did the work. I have a beautiful stone wall outlining the base of the tree and lovely shade plants that are low maintenance instead of a dirt yard. The fact that about 7 neighbors all came over and were amazed at the transformation, says it all. I am very happy with his work, his consideration, his crew and his professionalism.

Jason called ahead of the appointment and asked if he could come earlier. It was definitely in our interest as well. He took measurements, listened to our ideas and offered some of his own. He was extremely straight-forward and attentive to what we wanted to do. In a few days, he provided our analysis and recommended work to be done, as well as an estimate of the cost. We have scheduled the work.

Crew was on time and professional. Jason changed the original design after seeing the water damage from recent heavy rain. The results look great.

Overall, it went ok but I wasn't overly impressed with the assessment that they provided. It was a little vague and largely just repeated what I told him. I'd say it was worth $50. They were on time and professional enough, though.

I thought an Angie?s List Big Deal was just the ticket for me since we have a drainage problem in our back yard. In heavy rain, water runs down a gradual slope across mulched beds and deposits mulch and soil in a newly constructed pond. Based on the Angie's List good reviews, I was sure we would want to use J Reynolds Landscaping which featured drainage and erosion control services prominently on its website. So, we paid $99 for a ?Landscape Assessment/Analysis with Design Proposal and Conceptual Plan.? The deal cost of $99 was to be applied to installation costs. Jason Reynolds came out to our house on March 24, looked at the situation, and verbally proposed a swale to divert the water and take it to a wooded area behind our property. This seemed like a good plan and I also asked if he could remove the stump of a tree recently lost and plant a replacement. He was in our yard no more than 20 minutes. He followed up with a written estimate 11 days later on April 4 to ?Create a 21? long 2-3? wide swale through the upper garden area. Line the swale with heavy geotextile fabric and fill with 1-3? river jack stones.? Price $260. He also proposed to ?Remove the stump from the fallen service berry tree. Install a new 7-8? tall Service Berry Tree.? Price $500. I received no conceptual plan or drawing or consideration of the $99 already paid for the Big Deal. The ?Estimated Start Date? was left blank and so I emailed him the next day, April 5, to ask when he could schedule the job. I didn?t get a response until April 15. He said he was scheduling for the first week of July. Mid-summer is absolutely not the time of the year to plant a tree but I wanted him to do the swale job as soon as possible. He said the job was too small by itself, would agree only to doing both tree and swale job in July or in the fall. My drainage problem is critical, needs to be addressed before summer storms. and I'm not going to watch a $500 tree wither and die in the summer heat. Since he wasn?t willing to do only the swale job, or separate the two jobs, I asked if he would refund the $99 Big Deal since I received absolutely nothing more than an estimate which he offers for free and the news that my swale job was too small to do. He said in an email: "My time and effort so far is not compensated for monetarily. You will have to contact Angie's list for your $99 refund." If he wasn?t compensated, who was? Surely, Angie doesn?t keep the Big Deal money. I am thoroughly disgusted with J Reynolds Landscaping and I will never buy a Big Deal again. I have used many, many contractors over the 42 years in my house and I?ve never paid for an estimate. This one cost me $99! I have absolutely nothing to show for it and I have to start over to try to find a company that will fix my drainage problem. This is hardly an example of getting a job done from an Angie's List contractor "in a timely fashion" as is advertised!

I've waited a year to write this review to make sure all the plants lived and survived their first winter -- they did !! Everything went exactly as planned, except that the work EXCEEDED my expectations. Jason and his crew were very efficient, fast, on time, and in every way a delight to work with. I would highly recommend his services, and I was very pleased with the result.

I was amazed at how quickly I was contacted after I purchased the coupon. We set up a meeting for that weekend and he was not only prompt but early. I have two patio areas that need to be totally redone. We had a 15 minute discussion regarding my landscape style and my likes and dislikes and he was able to give me a drawing that was "right on" and fit my style. I was so surprised as I was not that lucky with other landscape professionals. I have not had the work done yet so all I can speak to is his promptness and his ability to understand what I wanted after just a very brief conversation. However, the cost of the job seemed to be very reasonable.

Jason was very easy to work with. He came by the house when he said he would to provide an estimate, the estimate was detailed and clear, and the job was completed when he said it would be. Jason's staff was neat, courteous, and worked hard. The whole experience was delightful and the company is very professional.

Great service. The crew volunteered to plant a heavy tree for us while they were on site at no extra cost. They were very hardworking, and did a tremendous job cleaning up after they were finished. We had some issues with the initial sod , and Jason responded immediately and fixed the problem. We couldn't have asked for better service. This is our second time we have hired Jason, and are already planning to use him for a third job in the future. I will be recommending him to our neighbors and friends who are looking for a good landscaping company.

He didn't contact me within the two days stated after purchasing the big deal. We had agreed for them to do the work on April 26th. He called me over the weekend and left a voicemail stating he was on his way to my home. I wasn't home and we didn't agree on this.

They are set to come out next week. They were in touch with me pretty quickly after I purchased the big deal - they called me within a day or two. There were no issues or problems. We built our house 20 years ago, and we're thinking of selling in about 4-6 years as we get close to retirement. Therefore, we're looking to upgrade the house to attract serious buyers. A few years ago, we had a couple of plants that were destroyed by a bad winter, and we're hoping the landscape designer can help up improve the curb appeal.

From start to finish, it was a pleasure working with Jason and his crew. His estimate was reasonable and fair and he took great care in developing a solution that would not only bring us the functionality we desperately required for our storm water run off but he brought us a beautiful landscape at the same time. Jason was onsite every day of the job with his crew of two equally impressive and courteous landscapers. They completed the work in the exact amount of time they quoted me - four days. They worked in sub-freezing weather a full day just to keep the project on time - that in itself demonstrates their dedication! They were punctual every day and very respectful of our home as well as our neighbor's property. Jason takes great pride in his work and in his customer service, and it showed over and over again. He truly wants to leave his customer with a great experience and it is what has kept him successful through the years. I would highly recommend Jason to anyone in the NOVA area - he is professional, knowledgeable, courteous, punctual, creative, and an overall pleasure to be around!
