Extremely well. They are expensive but you get what you pay for and then some with Groff. Mr. Groff, the planners, and other employees are extremely responsive. The work looks great and after three months, a small snow and several hard rains our back yard is mud free. The installed plants and ground cover survived and I anticipate they will look good in the spring once they emerge from winter dormancy. I complained about a plant I thought was poorly installed (broken branches) as well as some minor damage to my front lawn from their ditch digging machine. The repair work was done immediately, even though the damaged bush turned out to be the fault of my dog- Bad Seanie Boy! They consistently exceeded the terms of the contract to make sure the job was done right without hitting us with extra costs. Our back yard no longer looks like a quagmire in the wet season and anticipate that it will NOT look like a desert during the Virginia summer dry season. Again, they were very responsive to my questions, complaints, and concerns, even though I suspect our job was sort of at the small end of their spectrum. The crews were always on time and were professional. They wore Groff uniforms! I could go on and on. If you have a dog and plan to do landscaping on "their" backyard make sure to take the impact the dog will have on the landscaping, and the landscaping's impact on the dog.

Rob and his team were the absolute best! The planning phase with Rob was excellent, he helped problem solve our situation and gave honest insight on how we should proceed, with plenty of quick and detailed feedback. During the install he was present with his team the day of and everything went exactly according to plan and budget. The team was a delight to work with, they were friendly, clean and professional. I couldn't be happier with the end result and will definitely be using Rob and Groff for all future projects.

We had an outstanding experience with Groff Landscape Design. Rob Groff is a consummate professional that clearly values the satisfaction of his customers and takes pride in the quality of his company's workmanship. Rob is extremely responsive and makes every effort to ensure he understands the expectations of his clients before beginning the project. We were provided a number of patio and seat wall design options for our consideration as well as material choices to meet our budget. Additionally Rob worked with us to make sure the plants we chose for the new landscaping would be durable enough to survive summers with an energetic dog and a growing family. As the project was nearing completion, we decided we'd like to add some additional plants and lighting which was handled seamlessly without any delays. Since completing the project, Rob has followed-up on multiple occasions to make sure we are satisfied with the patio, lighting and landscaping. We recently hosted a party on the new patio and received numerous compliments. I can't recommend Rob and Groff Landscape Design highly enough.

After interviewing 5 different landscaping companies in Spring 2015 to do some fairly significant landscaping on the back yard of our new home in Vienna, we decided to work with Groff Landscaping. After a great experience with the back yard, we engaged them again to do the front yard in the fall. We are very pleased with the results of both projects, and give Groff the highest possible review rating: they provided us great design ideas, had a good selection of materials, made smart recommendations, and demonstrated outstanding project management in their implementation. Perhaps most importantly, Groff’s communications with clients are clear, honest, and dependable. They do what they say they will do when they say they will do it, take responsibility to course correct if necessary, and follow-up until everything is done right. When working with them, you get the clear sense that they actually care about their clients, which is pretty rare these days – Groff and his team are good people.

We interviewed five landscape design/build companies and selected Groff Landscaping because of Robert. You know from the minute you meet Rober that he's honest, passionate about what he does, and wants to exceed your expectations...and he does. I was honest with Rob from day one that I have high expectations and am picky and he delivered time and time again. While he wasn't the cheapest of the five, he was close but he delivered value which I define as the best quality for the cost. If you are looking for someone who is incredibly responsive, listens to what you want, honest, and passionate about exemplary customer service and the quality of his company's work - look no further. They are so confident in their workmanship that all hardscapes come with a 10-year warranty and trees/shrubs come with a 2-year warranty - this was double what we found from nearly all of the other firms we interviewed. Rob was there every step of the way ensuring things were on schedule and he was never more than a text/email away. My wife and I made game-time changes and he adjusted on the fly without any hesitation. His pricing is extremely transparent so you know exactly what you're getting and you can value engineer to ensure that you get what's most important to you at the budget you want. I normally don't take the time to write long reviews of contractors, but there are so many out there these days who charge a lot and offer horrible service. Robert and his team deserve the accolades as they are fair, do outstanding work, and have the best customer service of any service provider I have dealt with.

Our Arlington, VA home is 20 years old, the driveway for which was showing age and in need of either major improvement or replacement. Having noticed so many others investing in permeable driveways ? and the possibility future property taxes may be based, in part, on how much of the property is covered in non-porous applications ? we sought a contractor who could provide us a quality permeable driveway. We acquired the usual three bids, all of which were within ten percent of one another ? but only one contractor took the time to explain the features of what he was planning to install and only one contractor really designed the driveway as an engineer rather than a driveway paver: Groff Landscape Design. Perhaps most importantly, Rob Groff, the President of the firm, is absolutely the greatest person to work with. I?ve worked with contractors of every variety for the past 40 years ? and Rob stands head and shoulders above them all. He personally visited the site each day ? sometimes twice each day ? and adjusted to our changing ideas on its specifications (i.e., less wide than we had originally planned; change of color and size of the rock between the pavers). While on site, Groff Landscape Design even raised some pavers on a patio in the rear of the house for the cost of an hour?s labor. The final product is simply amazing (See photo). We could not be more pleased and it has added remarkably to the ?curb appeal? of the home, should we ever elect to move. One final word about Rob Groff: If I didn?t already have three sons, I?d adopt him. He?s just the most personable, trustworthy person I?ve had the privilege to work with and I commend him and Groff Landscape Design for any outdoor project you are considering. You?ll not be disappointed.

This was an excellent experience in every way, knowledgeable contractor, constant communication, excellent workmanship. Can't recommend too highly.

We had just finished remodeling and needed help cleaning up our front yard. They were very punctual and helped us get a kick start on our work.

Mr Groff was extremely responsive, nice and very easy to work with. I felt no pressure to go with his company. He was honest about the design and gave me really good pointers on what would be most practical for our space. I really appreciated his help and felt he was very knowledgable and experienced. We had a wooden deck removed, a concrete pad removed and a cherry tree removed. The demolition went smoothly and they took many precautions to minimize dust and any potential damage to our townhome. His crews had to work in a pretty tight space and they did an excellent job. Each day they were on time and clean up the space before they left for the day. The installation of the stone patio went well and it looks great with just the right amount of slope so that we don't get any water pooling after a rain. It took Groff Landscaping about 5 days to complete the job, quite quick if you consider all that the job entailed. I would definitely use them in the future.

This was the first project we had with Groff Landscape Design. We have been landscape DIY-ers in the past so this was a big step for us to trust someone else with our vision. However, we recently moved into an peculiar contemporary home on a steep hill so we decided we needed some help. I am a designer myself so I can be....particular about pretty much everything. This however was not a problem with Groff. It was clear from the start that, like us, they saw this project as an opportunity to do something unique and unusual. I'm not the cookie cutter type and they were good with that. After working with their designer on detailed 3D designs we started the project in mid December...they worked through rain, snow, sleet (no hail) but I'm still giving them some serious credit. Very hard workers. The crew was clearly knowledgeable, I work from home was available to answer questions but I was very rarely interrupted (maybe two questions the whole project cycle) because they were well informed about what the needed to do. I appreciated that. The crew was also extremely polite, friendly and cleaned up the area each day when they were done. Something else I appreciated was their overall commitment to transparency. I will say that they are not cheap but their quotes are detailed and itemized in a way that you can clearly see exactly where your money is going and for the quality of work and level of experience, they are MORE than worth it. I should also mention that when we got our original quote, it was beyond our budget, however, in our meeting they went through each line item with us and worked out ways for us to get what we wanted AND be able to afford it. In the end we got everything on our list at the price we needed it to be. You can't ask for more than that. Project management was also way beyond my expectations. Robert was always available by phone AND replied to emails (!!) quickly. He is onsite when necessary and made sure everything ran smoothly and we were happy. So in the end, I couldn't be more pleased with GLD and they will my only choice in the future for landscape design.

We had a good experience working with Rob and his team. He understood what we wanted, and went out of his way to meet our budget requirements. Construction went as planned and we were kept informed of the progress on a daily basis. Quality of work is excellent. We had some issues post completion (a couple of plants were not installed, minor issues with lights/timer, drainage problems), but these were fixed. Rob was very good about taking care of these in a timely manner. The drainage issue was not covered in the original contract but we were given a discounted rate on the additional work needed. Bottom line: quality contractor who cares about his clients.

I was pleased withe design services but we were unable to implement the plan due to budget constraints.

They're outstanding. When they first came out, they gave me an estimate that I just couldn't afforf at the time. I let them know that I did want to work with them though and asked them to contact me if they were able to come up with an alternative price. They called me back and were in fact able to come up with an alternative that I could afford. They worked with me on my budget, did everything they said they were going to do, were on time, and totally fixed the problem.

Gave a very professional estimate and all interpersonal dealings were excellent. Was not, however, the lowest quote which I ultimately took.

Rob was the best PM I have worked with on any home project. He was extremely responsive, professional, and delivered exactly what was asked. Like any project, there was a blip or two, but Rob addressed them diligently and quickly, and everything was delivered on plan within schedule and budget. We absolutely love the new backyard, and would recommend Groff for any outdoor projects. They were the perfect vendor.

Robert Groff and his team were simply great! I highly recommend them, and I will be calling them again for help with some other landscape projects. I have recommended them to everyone who asks for a recommendation for patio and/or landscape work. Our project started with Sean Ryan coming out to our house to do an initial consultation and design for a small fee, which was deducted from the overall cost of the project. Robert took the time to ensure we were happy throughout the entire process from the product selection--choice of paver and color (he delivered several samples before we decided) throughout the completion of our project. Robert or his father stopped by during the excavation and installation nearly every day. When we had a concern over one of the drainage pipes and its placement, it was corrected. Robert's team of professional patio installers were superb--the Groff team are year-round employees. We are thrilled with our patio and walkway and have very much enjoyed it since it was installed a year ago now. I feel badly that I have not written this review sooner.

Robert checked on all work each day. Ensured his crew knew what work was needed and did a final check upon completion. His crew were always on-time. Final cleanup was very good. Areas worked look brand new. Robert also told us to give him a call if any issues came up. We would definitely use Groff Landscape for any future hard scape work.

The workmanship was excellent and our yard looks great and we plan to use them again to landscape our back yard.

Pre-construction planning was great. Rob was very patient, answering all my questions and offering excellent advice when I wasn't sure of what the final outcome would be. Would DEFINITELY recommend to anyone and would use this contractor again.

Terrific job. Very professional, informative proposal with excellent recommendations. Absolutely met my needs. Some delays due to weather and other circumstances but Robert kept me fully informed of his team's plans as the timing changed. Excellent post project followup. Highly responsive to my every question. Truly a pleasure to work with and would not hesitate to use Groff again or to recommend them to others.

We enjoyed working with Groff on two landscaping projects and we consider Groff our go-to landscaper for future projects. Groff listened to our needs and wants and designed a project that met our needs and budget. We appreciated Groff's promptness for appointments and quick turnaround on designs and proposals. We were very impressed also by the quality of the plants and look of our new yard after installation. Groff is very attentive to customer service requests and has worked with us to address all of our concerns and answered all of our questions on how to care for our new plants. We highly recommend Groff.

All of the described work was an add-on to the earlier project. I am fully aware that these kinds of jobs are a major frustration for contractors, especially when planning on my part could have avoided the necessity. Nevertheless, Rob and his team were very patient and diligent about providing the extra effort. As has been the case in the past, Groff was punctual, thorough, and good about "leaving no trace." These are the best providers I have ever worked with.

This project was the second installation performed by Groff landscape. Last summer Groff designed and installed a back yard patio, circular stair (performed by others) and a perimeter fence at our end unit townhome in Vienna. We contacted Groff the first of February to design the second phase of our patio and plant material installation at our home. Sean prepared a very flexible design of the walkway and sitting area at the side yard that enables me to install a standby generator in the future if need be, while screening it as well with the new plant material. We were completely satisfied with our first phase, and our neghbors had complimented the high quality of the work. This effort was an excellent repeat of our initial experience. We jointly selected the stone and plant material and they had offerred two distinct design alternatives for our consideration. As a person who has developed and owned office and business parks in the southeast for over 25 years, I have seen numerous landscape installations and I believe that Groff provides the highest value for the investment by the owner. The workmanship by Luis, Jaime, and Jose was over-the-top in quality. The job site always remained clean at the end of the day and it was a joy to have them at our home. We are extremly impressed with their professionalism. Groff works within the client's budget and offers cost-effective solutions to achieve the owner's objectives. We highly recommend Groff to anyone who wants high quality and cost-effective solutions.

It was a good experience, and they provided fantastic designs to us. They were also highly responsive and followed up with us to discuss the implementation of the designs. However, we decided to have the work done by our current landscaping company since it had a better price while adding an element to the final plans.

We got several quotes for re-landscaping the front of our house. We liked the detail of the plan provided by Groff Landscape and Design and felt the incorporated everything the we asked for the most completely. We also felt they provided the best value, not necessarily the cheapest, but the most bang for our buck. Dealing the Robert, the project manager, was terrific. He was unfailingly upbeat and professional. While the work took a little longer than originally anticipated, they always showed up on time and worked diligently throughout each day. Most importantly, we are very pleased with the finished product, particularly the stone work. We would definitely use Groff again for additional landscaping projects.
