 + -1 moreOwner of Federal Lock and Safe gives the impression of being unbelievably unprofessional, discourteous, and completely and utterly uninterested customer feedback about what is not going well with company's service. The owner's voice comes off as noncaring and unengaged, bored even. He and one of managers were very defensive when things didn't go well and lashed out at the customer. I will never use them again. I will broadcast far and wide to friends and colleagues not to use the company. The cost was exorbitant. I was shocked at the overall price; the company did not forewarn me about the price for high-security keys. On the positive side, the technician was good. However, one of the locks occasionally gets stuck. I would never call back this company for repair.

Description of Work: After viewing their Web site, I drove to the store to have a lock rekeyed. I was greeted by a pasted sign on the front door saying that they no longer would service walk-in and retail customers, but would be happy to continue to service your security system. I was rather annoyed that their Web site gave no clue that they had no use for my business and promptly drove a short distance Baldino's in Clarendon and got prompt, competent service. I have no objection to a company changing their business model, but I certainly object to their not indicating anything about it on their Web site. If I had a security system that they could service, I would not give them the business after they "gave me the business" !

 + -1 moreFederal quoted me a price range over the phone. They suggested a time to arrive in the morning that is not busy so they could get right to it if I wanted to wait (they wanted me to open the safe and remove my valuables). They had the safe opened in 30 minutes. They had to drill a hole in the safe near the combination lock. I had the key to the tumbler lock. They had me open the safe door and take out my valuables once they worked the combination with a probe inserted in the hole. They asked if I wanted to have the safe repaired and and quoted a price. I tild them to repair it. They called later that day and said the hole was repaired but they could not match the old paint exactly (it is a 25-year-old safe) but if I wished they would spray the safe black and not charge for that. I told them not to bother because the safe was not to be displayed. The total bill was 80.00, less than the estimate. Federal workers were friendly, accomodating and helpful. They took the safe out of my car and put it back in when finished. It was a very good experience.
Description of Work: Federal technicians opened a house safe (about 1.5 cubic feet and 80 pounds) to which I'd lost the combination. They repaired the hole they drilled in it to get to the combination lock.
