During the search for a light golden engineered hardwood floor for my apartment, I bookmarked about half a dozen floors from several companies. When the time came to choose and order one, I chose the Classic Brazilian Teak Cumaru from eHardwoodFlooring.com. It is a radient golden color- just beautiful. The room photo sold me. So I called up the bookmarked page and ordered the floor from it. Several days later I attempted to call up the page again to admire the flooring pictures on it, but the page could not be found. So I went to the company s home page, found the flooring, and re-bookmarked it. I tought no more about it until after the flooring arrived. I paid $75 extra to get the liftgate service offered on te site, but when the cartons arrived, the driver informed me that they didn t offer that service. Eventually eHardwoodFlooring refunded me the $75. Communication with them was kind of sketchy with them- it would generally take 2 or 3 days for them to respond to emails. When the flooring finally did arrive and I was able to check it, IT WAS THE WRONG FLOOR. I was stunned- a wood with a dark finish. I checked the company s site and found they had sent the Modern Brazilian Teak Cumaru instead of the Classic Brazilian Teak Cumaru . How could this have happened I wondered. I hadn t even been aware of this one- due to it s dark color I had passed right by it while scanning for floors. The company sent me a copy of my receipt, which did indeed say Modern instead of Classic , which I hadn t noticed, having been unaware of the darker version. Then it struck me- the buying link on the Classic page had linked me to the other floor. I had seen Brazilian Teak Cumaru, and it had all seemed correct. I emailed them all this, and asked if I could order the correct floor, and have the delivery company pick up the incorrect one. It took them SIX days to respond that We don t to that . During all the email exchanges I would occasionally get apologies for long intervals between responses, saying that Brad was out of town on business, and that Kelly (his companion?) would get in touch with him and get back to me. I increasingly came to realize that this is a one-man two-bit operation arranging everything remotely. I was left with the following choices: 1) I could be stuck with a floor I didn t want and live with it, 2) I could pay return shipping and a 25% restocking fee for their inattention to their own website, 3) I could fight it. I chose option 3. I contacted Paypal and my credit card company gave all the details, and eventually both found in my favor. Ship it back, they said, and you ll be re-imbursed for the shipping. But I had no idea of the weight of the total shipment. So I asked Paypal to contact the company and find out what the shipping weight was. Three days later they got back to me, said the total weight was 2400 pounds, and I had 10 days to get it shipped. (This was during the hurricane, and I m in NYC.) Now, the weight seemed fishy to me. I m only 5 6 , 120 lbs., and I had to haul these cartons off the truck, and while they were really heavy, I was sure they didn t weigh as much as me. So I ordered a bathroom scale from Amazon with express shipping and hauled it up to my new place (still under construction). I looked over the flooring again, and thought You know, it s not terrible- maybe I could live with it, even if it s not what I wanted. Maybe the enormous hassle of getting it shipped back (including taking a day off from work just wasn t worth it . Then I weighed myself, picked up a carton, weighed myself again, and for good measure stood a carton up on the scale and weighed it alone. Confirmed- each carton weighed 56.8 pounds. 17 cartons weighed 965 pounds. They tried to make me pay 2 1/2 times the actual shipping weight as punishment. That made my final decision for me. AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE.
