Description of Work: They removed all the grout in my flagstone walkway and regrouted, replaced all the flagstone pieces on the front stoop, and replaced and straightened several of the crooked pieces on the walkway steps (which had been poorly constructed by a different contractor). | |The work went very well. I've used Bill and Custom Masonry before. I'm very picky and always notice something small I'm unhappy with, but each time I've used Bill he's been happy to correct any small issues I've had, and the price and time it takes to complete the job are always consistent with what he tells me up front. His prices are also the lowest I've found for a licensed masonry contractor in my area.

Description of Work: I hired Bill and his crew to build a retaining wall approximately 33 ft in length. Bill provided an extremely reasonable estimate. The work was completed within the time frame provided, on budget, and beautiful. The crew was professional and courteous at all times. I have several more projects planned in the near future, and Custom Masonry has earned my trust and my business.

Description of Work: We had two chimneys repointed, one chimney was three stories. They did a terrific job (and I went up on the roof a couple of times to check closely). They were prompt in their response to a request for a bid and their price was completely satisfactory, but not low cost (although one of their competitors wanted to rebuild the chimneys at twice the cost). I wanted a legitimate provider doing this stuff, which was a bit dangerous. Sometimes the coordination between the office and the crew seemed a bit disjointed, but it did not finally affect the quality of the work at all. The crew were good guys. I'm thinking about asking the company to do some additional work for us.

Description of Work: Repaired broken out and loose bricks on my front steps. Also did some pointing up on my side steps. Owner came in person ( I had made the appointment with his wife) to estimate the job and was on time, pleasant and professional. He promised a written estimate in a day or so which was emailed to me. The day of the job a crew of 3 came, of which 1 supervised the work. They were finished in a few hours and came back the next day to do an acid wash. The job looks very nice and we are satisfied with the work. The company is efficient and pleasant to deal with. The price seemed a bit high for the time they were actually here and I might have done better had I shopped around a bit, but all in all a good experience and I would use them again.

I met with Bill, whom I believe to be the owner for the estimate of what needed done, how they would accomplish it, and his cost. I found him knowledgeable and the price fair; he answered all my questions throughout the process. He and his crew showed up on the day scheduled, began work and worked until the job was finished .....I was pleased to see his crew taking precautions in the very high heat to drink water and take very short breaks, one at a time . To me, this shows common sense and perhaps good supervision too. My husband and I are very pleased with the results, and so glad to have our steps safe and usable again. Bill came out to go over final job, answer my questions, and helped with one loose stone that wasn't seen the day of our estimate, which I appreciated. I have a guarantee on the work and hope I won't need it; as of today, I feel I won't, but it is good to have along with his word. In the future we definitely will call Bill and Tracy with Custom Masonry should we have a need.

 + -1 moreWork started on day promised and finished the second day. Results were not entirely satisfactory. Nine items needed correction: stoop width varied over depth by 1/2 inch (minor, did not ask to be corrected); added step height as finished left us with uneven step heights (5.5 in., 7 in.; corrected by tilting up ground slate to reduce step up to first step); added step slanted left-right (not corrected, claimed to be for drainage but back-front drainage accomplishes that), two slates badly marred (one on top stoop replaced, other, on ground, not corrected, may only need to be flipped over); one edge of walk to driveway varied from straight +/- 1 in. (corrected); uneven spacing and level of many slates and pavers (worst offenders corrected); two slates rock back and forth (corrected); scant stone dust filler between slates/pavers (somewhat corrected, with white play sand, gaps remain). Mr. Arias appeared genuinely motivated to correct all problems but one remains.
Description of Work: Take up builder original slate walkways and, reusing the slates, build a walkway with red paver frame and between each slate. Two walks were done, from the front stoop to the sidewalk and from the stoop to the driveway. Also pave over the concrete stoop with straight cut slate and brick on the sides. Add step in front of stoop with slate on top and brick sides.
