+ 0 moreRod bought the materials on Monday and transported them and his tools to my house, storing them in the garage. This took a couple of trips due to the size of the job. Tuesday he started in at the agreed-on time, 9:30 AM and worked until 4:30 PM. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday was the same schedule. I was home and helped carry the 4 by 8 sheets of finished plywood and 16 foot long lumber around. He usually works by himself and could have done the job with out help, having done so most of the time. I did the painting myself after taking Rod's advice on paint types and brands. I am very satisfied with Rod's work and especially the overall quality of the finished product. And he is the easiest guy to work with.
Description of Work: Rod designed and installed a three-bay built-in bookcase system with base cabinets for my townhouse. He purchased all the lumber locally, built the units on site, and installed the whole ensemble and finishing molding. The twelve inch deep bookcases extend up to the eleven foot ceiling and "stand" on the sixteen inch deep base cabinets. People who have seen the room before the bookcases were installed comment on how well they dress up the room and how well finished they are. I have built shelves myself and appreciate how all the dimensions came out right on the money. The two end bays are exactly the same width while the center bay is wider to accommodate the flat screen TV. He didn't waste any materials due to cutting or measuring errors. He also worked around my schedule and finished the job when he said he would at the price (which I felt was very reasonable) he quoted before he began. Rod has been building custom built-ins for a number of years, and it shows in the fit and look of the finished product.

Description of Work: Rod is a delight to work with. He fixed some broken cabinetry (computer tray, cabinet doors) that required several return visits to correct. He was patient and persistent with a tricky job and did not give up until it was fixed. He charged a very reasonable price. I would hire him for bigger jobs if I had one. Good guy!!

+ -1 moreThe thing I liked best is that he had excellent communication skills. He communicated to us that he only works for four hours a day but he was on time and worked for the amount of time he said he would. He is a very nice man and he stuck to what he said he would do.
Description of Work: We had him build a huge wall of built in book shelves and cabinet doors for in our basement.

+ -1 moreIt took a little longer than we thought, but otherwise this was great. Rod was fastidious in his work, and friendly to have around. We had tried a prior handyman who put up fake plastic bead board. The actual wood strips that Rod put up look substantially better - just the look I wanted.
Description of Work: Added bead board to the base of existing cabinets, included nice detail for base board and around vents.

We had a custom cabinet we needed built, and based upon the outcome, we had several projects to offer him as we're doing a total home renovation. However, when we called for an estimate, he told us building a custom cabinet wasn't his bailiwick (his word). We're confused.

+ -1 moreMr. Bolte arrived at my home as planned after what I felt was a very pleasant telephone conversation in which I asked for an estimate. I had explained to him that I found his name on Angie's list and that I wanted an estimate on having crown molding through-out my home as well as creating built-in book shelves. However, when he arrived I advised him that he was parked in reserved parking for residents and asked him to move his motorcycle onto the public street. When he complained that his motorcycle was hard to push and that he didn't want to start it back up because it would take 5 minutes, I advised that because he was in a reserved spot he could be towed. I acknowledged that it isn't marked but that was the case and wanted him to know. When he said he would leave his motorcycle anyway I stated that I didn't want my neighbors to come home and not be able to park. He replied "well I'll just keep on going then" and left. I was surprised, given the previous reports on your list.

+ -1 moreMr. Bolte did an excellent job - he designed the extension to fit in with existing built-in shelves and added some trim to coordinate the whole effect. He did the work in an efficient manner, cleaned up all work spaces and left the job ready to paint. He was very professional and left no mess.
Description of Work: Added onto existing built-in by extending the bottom half and adding doors. Also custom drilled holes in cabinets to hide wiring from audio and TV equipment. Added trim to existing shelves to tie into new extension and doors.

+ -1 moreRod Bolte kept his word in every regard. He called when promised and kept appointments, unless, rescheduled by prior notification. He was tidy, courteous and personable. His price was reasonable. We would definitely recommend his work.
Description of Work: A corner cabinet was constructed to look like a built-in. There is a top shelf that spans across the entire cabinet. Below the shelf, the cabinet is divided into 2 sides. One is open for storage of tall items. The other side has adjustable shelves. There is molding around the top and bordering the edges of the 2 long doors. Partially primed, the cabinet was paint ready when finished.

+ -1 moreRod was on time, polite, experienced, kept his word on all matters, and cleaned up after his work. Overall he did an excellent job and built a very beautiful wall unit from scratch at what I feel is a reasonable price. I found him on Angie's List and would happily recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Rod constructed a built-in wall unit, from scratch, consisting of three bottom cabinets (with doors) and three shelving units running from the top of the cabinets to the ceiling, with the center shelving unit designed to hold a 32 inch TV.

+ 0 moreRod did the work on schedule once the job was started. He cleaned up after himself and left rooms clean, and in my mind, he was reasonably priced. He designed the products and built them from scratch. He is creative in matching a design to the job, and I have had several comments from neighbors about how good they look.
Description of Work: Constructed wooden valences for three large windows and built a small cabinet to put my large TV in.
